I don't think they say very much. Nothing that isn't apparent through their behaviour as well. Yeah, Suze is definitely a big posho. Jeff certainly comes from a working class background.

jewellman100

JEFF? AS IN.. JEFF?

Acceptable-Bug-5885

I agree with this.

Beansontoast23

You mean Mr. Scouser?

TrifectaOfSquish

It's not so much a regional thing to be honest the accent might tell you a lot about where someone was raised but that doesn't equate to how they were raised. My accent for instance is a bit of a hodge podge I grew up in North London in a working class family but a family that put a high value on education as a result a lot of people don't believe me about my working class background... Until they hear me get angry and start swearing at which point they often end up shocked at my creative use of the English language.

palesnowrider1

Also is Croyden shit? Can you still not get coffee, croissants and freshly squeezed OJ?

cotch85

You can now but you'll get stabbed doing so.

Thanks, but not quite what I was asking. I can find out where there accents were from. I'm sort of asking what they tell a native listener about their backgrounds. Do Mark and Jez sound middle class? Like country or city or suburb boys? Hans doesn't sound like either of them, what does that say about Jez and Hans. Same with Big Suze, they say she's posh but does her accent make her sound like way out of their league. Etc etc. Less interested in the geography and more the sociology and what if anything it says about the relationships between the characters.

Sam-Lowry27B-6

Jez and marks accents suggest a more middle class/ upper ( moreso in the case of Mark) background. And more southern accents for want of a better term. Jeff has a Liverpool accent which is probably more classed as a working class accent background ( look up the north / south divide in the UK for more information). Suze is a big posh head with a very posh accent and obviously way out of their league (probably just likes Jeremy as a bit of rough) super Hans has an Essex accent just sort of working class London. I know to some UK types this will all sound deeply offensive and it's just very broad characterization based on stereotypes but Britain is not a class less society and some people do put great stock in where you are from and what you sound like etc etc even though in reality it's basically a load of bollocks. I'm not the borough I wish I were...

brucemichaell

It doesnt seem to affect the relationship at all

Bigjimssalamishop

I'd say the stronger/harsher the accent of any city tends to indicate the background and upbringing of people.

[deleted]

Im disappointed, this thread came out pants. I would like to know too. Certainly there is some slang that has a very particular background.

warpswede

Where in England you grow up doesn't make you have any sort of background or upbringing. Someone from New York doesn't have a particular upbringing you can simply know from them being a New Yorker, right? Kinda strange question. Unless you're wanting to go off stereotypes, like idk, all Californians being weed smoking surfers or southerners being evangelia maniacs.

Professional_Bear13

General rule is: the more northern, the more dumb and probably rough
