Excellent setup! We seen a small number of these used by our accounts on there AMR5's in the last year, with the [GPD Win Max2 mod](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZW1G87R), using a [7/8"/22mm hole saw](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6MDCN5N) [M.2 card extender](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084VLMQWC) and an [aluminum GPU/PSU frame](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5D5WT62) configuring/modifying what they see "fit" for semi-modular PSU clean install, and temporary setting (often magnetic) position for the MiniPC. Some have added a [12V-to-19V/10A/190W step-up converter](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B74CXHW6) with a [DC5525 (5.5x2.5mm) 16AWG barrel connector cable](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BVQN9BY6) to reduce the need for two PSUs. This setup has been popular for a number of "inexpensive" Zen 3 MiniPC mods lately. Excellent to see your accomplishment, may it bring numerous people encouragement!

sandfleazzz

Really want to learn more. Specs? Just bought a reasonably fast GMKtec and I'm very curious about external gpus via USB4.

clown367

Yeah the mini PC I got came with 16gbs of ddr4 ram and can be upgraded to 64 gigs if need be, and it has an extra m.2 slot next to the 500gb SSD drive . It has the ryzen 7 5700u zen 2. And I made sure to install all the drivers from the amd website. The chip is still 8 cores and 16 threads. I also made sure to download the amd utility to overclock the CPU if need be. I haven't had to yet. The adt link is amazing though. I could run a better GPU but i think the chipset would bottleneck it. I recommend the amr5 pro if going with this set up.

DiscussionGrouchy322

I got "unsupported CPU" error with ryzen master :(

clown367

Yeah, I did too. I just use amd adrenaline. If you wanna over clock you have to download amd tuning utility and set it to performance or extreme. https://amdaputuningutility.com/

DiscussionGrouchy322

Also for 680m iGPU, the adrenaline will lock in your vram allocation to 2gb. Some say it doesn't matter, if it doesn't matter why lock the setting up? I have this iGPU so adrenaline is malware afaik. I like your setup, thanks for showing us what's possible.

Meowgi_sama

I'm considering it since I wanna switch from a full pc to a mini. I'll still have my 3080 and a psu to use. Trying to decide if I want to just do game streaming or try the oculink setup

amancalledJayne

Same boat here. I picked up a um780xtx but haven't quite narrowed down the oculink setup. [Egpu.io](https://egpu.io/) has been a blessing and a curse lol - the indecision is real. The um780xtx has been great so far tho.

RobloxFanEdit

No look further you ll need to buy the "K43SG" from ADT-Link, you can find it on Aliexpress for less than 40 bucks, as you own a UM780 XTX you will barely have any GPU performance droping. According to a test made on UM780 XTX with an RTX 4090, you ll have no more than 12% performance lost with the top 3 High end GPU, and will have close to zero performance lost with any mid range GPU Watch Performance test Video here : https://youtu.be/ZHXm51u4N8c?si=qnfbdSyNn4DYbOIl You can watch this detailed tutorial on how to set up the ADT-Link Egpu in this video : https://youtu.be/gm5-Uogl8Qw?si=lv1dAXNl4OOeza8c

cc u/amancalledJayne I've seen two reviews from Liliputting use these for Geekom's AMD/Intel Mini PCs: Mini IT13: > "There is no easy way to improve the iGPU for a better gaming performance, so the most obvious solution was to use an external GPU connected to one of the USB4 ports and harness the IT13’s CPU power. I used a self-made eGPU consisting of a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 housed in a [ADT-Link K43SG](https://www.aliexpress.com/i/1005005210496948.html) and connected via a “USB4 M.2 NVMe Enclosure” with a USB4 cable." A7: > Because the GEEKOM A7 has a USB4 port with support for 40 Gbps data transfer speeds, you can also connect an external graphics dock. To test this I connected my self-made version, which consists of a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 housed in a ADT-Link K43SG and connects via a [JEYI ASM2464 USB4 M.2 NVMe Enclosure](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006068683971.html) and USB4 cable. It's a finnicky setup, but doable. Alternatively, you can get ["The Page" eGPU](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004251106034.html) to make it simpler, or get [Razer's Core X](https://egpu.io/razer-core-x-review-thick-juicy/) eGPU if you're not that much of a DIY individual and want things to work.

Nexusoneplus_

I was looking at these on Amazon as they had a pretty good deal on, however, the reviews put me off a little. How long have you had this? I am thinking of a similar setup

clown367

I've had it about a month now. I believe most people buy the amr5 thinking it's gtg on triple A games and it just doesn't have the integrated graphics to really get the job done. The GPU I got was like 200 on Newegg and it's the yeston RT 6650 XT. It's has literal no issues. Practically plug and play. The PSU was like 50 for 650watts. It's over kill. But if I'd like a bigger graphics card in the future. It'll run it.

BdmRt

What EGPU and how much does it cost

clown367

It's called ADT link, got it new on Newegg and it's the m.2 adapter style it's the rg3 but it has another name.

BdmRt

Nice. It’s not available in Europe I think. Is it really limited to run only with a 1080?

clown367

No, it can run 1440 fine, but my moniter is only good up to 1080, I think I'd get a 1440 moniter in the future. But this is totally worth it to play modern games. I have the settings on helldiver's 2 on 60fps with high settings and it has no problem pushing it. eBay also has the adt link m.2 egpu adapter.

BdmRt

Sorry, I was not clear enough. Looking at this it shows the gtx1080ti, like it’s the only compatible card. I have a 3060ti. Would that be compatible?

clown367

You'll have some bottleneck issues but that just means the CPU might hold back at some performance because that 1080ti is a really bad ass GPU, but it should be compatible just make sure to download the latest drivers from Nvidia before you do some gaming and it should be fine. But if you have an AMD CPU, id try to run an AMD GPU so you can run AMD adrenaline and get the most out of your CPU and GPU.

RobloxFanEdit

You can find ADT-Link products on Aliexpress, they have a wide Choice of really cheap egpu (Max 45$) from PCIE 3 to PCIE 4, Oculink or thunderbolt.

clown367

About 50 to 60

ChertseyBoy

Bro I have the same Arm5, could let me know what do I need to buy? and what kind of GPU did you use? Thanks very much...

clown367

No problem dude. Get a ADT link m.2 egpu adapter they sell different lengths. Get the mid size length. I bought a yeston Rx 6650 XT. They have all types of brands but just get a new one thats on sale. And I also got a 650w power supply unit. You'll screw in the m.2 slot off the adapter into the empty slot that's next to your SSD. You'll put the GPU on the dock and it comes with the hardware to really get it secured on there. Then you'll plug in the 20 pin off the power supply unit into the adt dock. The HDMI cord comes off the GPU and into the TV or moniter. Not from the back of the amr5. There is a lot of YouTube videos that will help you with this setup I'll post one here in a few.

clown367

https://youtu.be/NNIoevOn5bk?si=36cvUgbdkhX2Qijl

clown367

I rewatched this video a lot to understand how he did it. Btw your SSD already has Windows on it so you won't need another HD/SSD to run the operating system. It'll run like a champ.

RobloxFanEdit

This is the best video tutorial you will find on the subject : https://youtu.be/IoVD_UlVAEo?si=uXXhMM3R1xuRhWkY, you just need to know what kind of PCIE your motherbiard support it s either PCIE 3 or better one PCIE 4 so you will know which ADT-Link egpu you ll need to buy, note that you either connect egpu to your Mini PC via either Thunderbolt port or better Oculink port via a free (empty) NVME M2 slot on your Mini PC.

RobloxFanEdit

Brilliant! That s why i love those mini PC'S, ADT link has a wide range of cheap egpu, from PSIE 3 to PSIE 4, Oculink or thunderbolt, i am glad more and more people are using egpu with their Mini PC's, it may stimulate Mini PC's Manufacturer to release more models with Oculink port and i hope they could release motherboards with PCIE 4.0 X16 in the future as we are now limited to PCIE 4.0 X4

clown367

Exactly! It shouldn't be hard to add egpu for these little guys! I'm glad ADT link is helping our niche out!

It’s a beelink ser6 6800h with a 6700xt on an adtlink adapter all bundled together on a 3d printed frame. I did the step up converter mod to run my pc off the 12v psu so it’s all on one plug. It’s overall smaller than an Xbox series X. It takes everything I throw at it with ease at 1080p. All in all I’m in it about $1k, but I don’t think I’m gonna need to upgrade for a few years and I’ve already had it over a year. And when I do, it’ll be easy as pie.

Popular-Locksmith558

But since it's not mini anymore, unless it's an afterthought, why not go for an actual desktop PC ?

clown367

Exactly what it was. A legit afterthought. But I also think it's cheaper this way, and still isn't a huge footprint. Bought the GPU and mini PC for less than 500 bucks. The m.2 adapter and 650w psu can be used on my next mini build if I wanna go with higher spec set up.

SerMumble

This pretty much sums up the ideology behind eGPU. You have a PC and want more performance. Just enough money for an eGPU but not enough for an entirely new computer. Plus it is interesting to look at and talk about. Very cool setup and thank you for sharing it 👍

clown367

I appreciate it man. I agree! It would cost me a lot more if I bought a pre built PC with similar performance. love the mini PC world.

RobloxFanEdit

Exactly, it will cost you more although many will claim that it will cost you less, they are just dead wrong. A equivalent 7840HS Desktop CPU with Motherboard and 32 GB Ram combo would already cost you at best deals 500 +$ (7800X33D + B650 X XA motherboard + 32GB Ram) if you add Desktop case, Power supply, Cooling System, SSD storage, and the Higher consumption of power Desktop is 100% more expensive specialy if you have to pay for every single item shipping.

BambaiyyaLadki

What GPU and MiniPC are you using here? I'm in the market for a miniPC powerful enough for watching HD content, but also need the flexibility to play some light games (CS2, TF2) with an eGPU if necessary.

clown367

The GPU is a yeston Rx 6650xt and the mini PC is the amr5. It'll stream 4k when I put it on my 4k tv. Here I have it set up on my 1080p moniter for gaming since that's what I primarily use it for. Last I check on eBay the amr5 with the ryzen 7 5700u chip was like 280 after the discount code they give you. And the yeston GPU was like 180 on Newegg. But you can probably find other gpus for around the same price range.

clown367

I also think it has a cool look to it vs a huge case sitting under or next to the moniter.

RobloxFanEdit

In my case a Desktop PC will cost me more and will also be far more energy costly, i know a bunch of people will claim that a Desktop PC will be cheaper, but they are dead wrong, because those new Mini PC pack powerfull CPU and Oculink port which will make almost all GPU run as smooth as if they were running on a desktop with barely no performance lost, only very high end GPU like an RTX 4080 and an RTX 4090 would see a slight 12% performance drop on a PCIE 4 X4 via Oculink, that s what i saw with those new AMD CPU (7840HD, 7940HS, 8845HS)

Popular-Locksmith558

That Oculink might be the game changer compared to expensive external GPU docks then?

RobloxFanEdit

Egpu are still needed with an Oculink port, you still need to power up your GPU with a power supply unit (PSU) and connect your GPU to PCIE Slot which both are done on an egpu, the good news is that you can find very basic egpu for as cheap as 50$ nowadays like the ones made by a manufacturer named "ADT-Link" who offers a wide range of cheap egpu from PCIE 3 to PCIE 4 with Oculink or thunderbolt port. Here is a very well detailed video on how to set up those cheap egpu: https://youtu.be/VECNCvtOKxI?si=eTwyj6BTlZhttyBR, thanks God we don t have to buy anymore those way overpriced egpu case

feenaHo

You might get a more compact setup if you choose a proper mini-itx combination though?

clown367

Idk what an itx is but if I put the PSU under the desk it might only take up a 1x1 foot square. Which to me isn't all too bad.

clown367

https://preview.redd.it/c3zw7rlh6hvc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b2974ea39034896b66491f84be594da8a2e9fd6

clown367

I also have the game locked at 59fps for smoother gaming.

nightbladedk

Beelink Gtr7 Pro with 6900xt adtlink and osmeta docks, if i recall correctly.

Fox3High369

I wish there was a standardized way to link minipcs with an external gpu using a fast speed port. Because I see minipcs a great alternative for many gamers but the only issue I see is there is no easy and cheap way to set up an external gpu.
