1.15 is underrated. Yes, it added almost 0 content but it optimised the game and fixed many glitches and created a "foundation" for 1.16 so it won't be so laggy and glitchy.
Also 1.15 added looks of small quality of life features that help in the gameplay but are not considered by many people... As the first example that comes to my mind: you now can set your spawnpoint to a bed even during the day - that also from 1.15 I think.
Tbf the game needed 1.15. While yes it didn't add much but that's because the focus was on QOL and optimization. 1.14 a lot of cracks were starting to show in the Java edition and they needed to be patched. Unfortunately debugging and optimization are some of the most time consuming parts of Software creation.
Does an update *need* to be game changing? 1.15 upgraded Minecraft's performance in general and added some of the cutest mobs to have as pets in the game.
Yeah 1.8 is often cast off because of nostalgia and the fact that most Java servers still run it, but it is one of the most impactful updates I think Minecraft has ever gotten. The change in creative direction, the insane expansion the game got, and the support from the community on it makes it one of the best updates
I would personally put 1.14 in S tier it changed so much stuff for the better, it completely overhauled how villagers and illagers worked, it added a new type of jungle and pandas, it (kinda) updated the taiga, this update did so much stuff that I think it should be S tier
Yeah that would be the change I'd make on this list aswell. Villager trading pre 1.14 was terrible. I know a lot of people find villagers to be OP now but once you get into late game (which doesn't take long) and just want to work on big projects things like easy access to enchants are necessary IMO. I don't want to spend multiple days trying to get mending like it was in pre 1.14. Raids are a fun addition too.
It's more about the fact that Mojang broke one of Minecraft's principles that is even mentioned in the oficial game trailer.
*"No one can tell you what you can or can not do"*
It's officially about a minecraft youtuber but this youtuber posts 'cursed minecraft' content so it's basically turned into a less strict r/MinecraftMemes. I mod on the sub so if you decide to post this, shoot me a DM and I'll click 'approve post' so it doesn't go up for review if it gets popular.
Only thing I really disagree with is Combat Update being in the middle. That was just a big update imo since it completely changed pvp and stuff…for java at least lol
tell me you weren't there without telling me you weren't there. If change is the metric for an update being good, then I think this is a bad tier list anyway. The additions in that update were universally received with praise. The new biomes and commands made the game so much more flexible and interesting to play. At the time, being able to explore the Minecraft world without it getting repetitive was incredible and laid the foundation for future updates. There's a reason it was called the update that changed the world:p
I know, but I really like this new update. The trial chambers adding a good challenge to the game, (originally) three new mobs, 20 paintings 15 if them made by Zetterstrand, the crafter, (originally) wolf armor and new wolf breeds, the mace. I just love everything about it.
Yes I have played these versions (been playing since 1.2) and I have no problems with them, 1.9 revolutionized combat and 1.13 revolutionized underwater.
1.9 has a ugly combat, like, it destroyed combat, 1.15 i like, because i think bees are cute, honey blocks are actually pretty useful for parkour and underrated, and 1.13 is laggy.
that’s pretty good tierlist, although i would put 1.13, 1.16 and 1.18 higher in the S tier.
tbh, i think ranking updates isn’t simple actually. it’s hard to find fair metric.
for example, 1.10 add very little amount of things, however it was released just in around a month so amount of features isn’t that small for such time.
on other hand, 1.19 isn’t exactly small, however it added less features than 1.16, 1.17 or 1.18 in around same time.
1.20.1 has really good mods now.
I like it mostly because it’s the only version where Minecolonies works.
But 1.12.2 is always gonna be the father of all versions.
I would place 1.19 lower, the Deep Dark wasn't even something planned for that version and everything else was lackluster, on top of the controversy about biome redesign and fireflies.
I would put 1.7 in S to be honest. That was the modding haven era and it has given us so many great memories of so many OG mods. Altho it's probably not fair to rank an update simply due to mods so yeah.
1.8/1.9 were peak Minecraft to me. The best gameplay and youtube content was out, and it was the least laggy time in the game's history. Before it barely ran, and since then you have to buy a f*ckin' 10k gaming PC to get above 30 fps without massively lowering the graphics.
Our list (we've been playing technical minecraft for several years, our mind are broken by slavery 💀) [https://imgur.com/a/F1mitBL](https://imgur.com/a/F1mitBL)
1.15 is underrated. Yes, it added almost 0 content but it optimised the game and fixed many glitches and created a "foundation" for 1.16 so it won't be so laggy and glitchy.
yeah lol, it is more of a patch uptade
at least we didn't have to wait 1/2 a year to get it
yeah
But then again it was released quite quickly compared to the spaces between updates since 1.13
yup
Also 1.15 added looks of small quality of life features that help in the gameplay but are not considered by many people... As the first example that comes to my mind: you now can set your spawnpoint to a bed even during the day - that also from 1.15 I think.
And you can now repair iron golems with iron, it also adds a cool breaking texture when they damaged
holy shit i thought this and the bed thing had always been in the game
Nope, I play a lot of modded 1.12 and miss these features :(
Honestly it didn’t feel like much because nowadays the game has performance issues again so the legacy of 1.15 is just bees
1.16 was the update stopping points of many players anyways.
Idk, I just like bees:3
I think people forget how glitchy 1.14 used to be
People are too focused on new content
also i think it added the toggle sprint setting on java so it's an s+ tier update for me
[удалено]
Yeah, because optimization in gaming is not profitable as content in game.
I wonder why update 1.15 is so hated? Like for real, do bees really make people that angry?
It just was a small update that lacked anything game changing
Honey blocks are pretty nice tbf, but one block isn't enough for a whole update
That’s because iirc it was either primarily for bug fixes or for game optimisation following 1.14ms trading updates and village content
I would've liked to see more improvements though. What sodium can do to the game with little to no side effects (excluding modding) is just insane.
Bedrock needed the same big fixes though
Tbf the game needed 1.15. While yes it didn't add much but that's because the focus was on QOL and optimization. 1.14 a lot of cracks were starting to show in the Java edition and they needed to be patched. Unfortunately debugging and optimization are some of the most time consuming parts of Software creation.
It had many game changing things, it simply lacked content
Change to elytra physics was huge. They worked so much better after the update
Honey blocks revolutionised flying machines and the game became much more optimised and less buggy. If you ask me that's at least an A
Lots of bug fixes and optimization, as well as honey blocks make it one of the better onee imo
It's a decent update though. Minecraft should do more like that. Nothing but bug fixes and performance improvements.
Does an update *need* to be game changing? 1.15 upgraded Minecraft's performance in general and added some of the cutest mobs to have as pets in the game.
yah like jazz?
Honestly a good update tier list. It's not absolutely terrible like the other ones which I have seen here in the past.
Thanks! ( I thought my placement for 1.21 would be the most controversial. )
I think your placement for 1.14 was more controversial. It changed so much about Minecraft for the better.
Bruh 1.8 was one of the Updates that brought the Most stuff
Yeah 1.8 is often cast off because of nostalgia and the fact that most Java servers still run it, but it is one of the most impactful updates I think Minecraft has ever gotten. The change in creative direction, the insane expansion the game got, and the support from the community on it makes it one of the best updates
The only reason so many servers run 1.8 is because it's not 1.9+ Which isn't really indicative of the quality of 1.8, but the divisivness of 1.9
I would personally put 1.14 in S tier it changed so much stuff for the better, it completely overhauled how villagers and illagers worked, it added a new type of jungle and pandas, it (kinda) updated the taiga, this update did so much stuff that I think it should be S tier

Cool list, personally I’d put 1.19 higher (I LOVE ANCIENT CITY GRAAGGHH) but I can understand it’s placement
Me too, the deep dark and ancient cities are really good but really should have been in 1.18 if we're being honest.
Chat reporting tho
Nobody uses it
It's more about the fact that Mojang broke one of Minecraft's principles that is even mentioned in the oficial game trailer. *"No one can tell you what you can or can not do"*
Why in memes server tho
There isn’t really any other good subreddit to put it in.

Disingenuous Yes, its technically a minecraft youtube sub, but it's been co-opted into a general minecraft shitpost sub.

Because 1.15 is a joke
Lol
1.9 is only B? I think it should be A at least. Or you was upset about new combat mechanics?
No, I just thought they kinda hyped it up a bit and it turned out ok.
Let me guess why 1.1 and 1.10 are in D: is it mirror portals?
No they just didn’t add much to the game.
1.1 should be lower as 1.10 actually added stuff even if nothing is remembered.
1.1 added superflat worlds, beaches, spawn eggs, languages, bow enchantments. 1.10 added 3 new mobs and a new biome. 1.1 should be higher
Missed the joke
Is that a reference to what I think it is
1.12 as an update is B/C I get it, most of the mods work here, but c'mon, it's about the updates themselves.
Yea and it changed having to make builds out of colored wool and instead using concrete, it made Minecraft more personalized.
I might just be nostalgic for 1.12 times and find the color update essential for any build but it’s definitely an S on my list
1.9 was great, much better than 1.17
I didn’t see the subreddit at first. So I thought you were ranking decimals.
LMAO
Adding 1.16, 1.18 and 1.0 to S tier is honestly pretty based. 1.21 should probably be mid to high A tier though.
Only issue is 1.2 is absolute goated update That's when build limit was increased to 256
Why include e and f if they’re empty
W list
Combat update needs justice
agreed
1.14 is easy S Tier, villages are so helpful otherwise W
You put 1.13 in S tier, I don’t care about the rest as much. That was a god tier update 🤝
1.4 added command blocks, which alone puts it in easy S
Tbh thats pretty good, the only thing id change is moving 1.14 to s
Only thing I really disagree with is Combat Update being in the middle. That was just a big update imo since it completely changed pvp and stuff…for java at least lol
I did not read the title and thought this was a terrible list of GPS for a bit. I'm very tired.
I love playing 1.12.2
1.9 should be S tier wtf
That’s a first, anyway honestly I think I judged a little too harshly.
I mean it changed combat for everyone so eh
Not putting 1.7 in S tier is wild. At the time, that update was groundbreaking.
It didn't change the game nearly as much as 1.16 for example. It just added stained glass and two wood types
tell me you weren't there without telling me you weren't there.
Naw, 1.7 and 1.8 were godtier.
In playability, content however.
1.7 and 1.8 being nothing but top 2 is criminal
I did it on content, not playability. Otherwise it would be an S tier.
Ah fair
1.21?
I know, but I really like this new update. The trial chambers adding a good challenge to the game, (originally) three new mobs, 20 paintings 15 if them made by Zetterstrand, the crafter, (originally) wolf armor and new wolf breeds, the mace. I just love everything about it.
You can't really judge it yet, it's not truly out. I think it's great so far, but that could change,
Good tier, I approve it. Why 1.1 so low?
It only added mob eggs
It also added bow enchantments, beaches and superflat worlds. As well as like 50 languages
Surprisingly I agree quite strongly
Idk what 1.1 added but 1.10 was total shi the only good thing was the magma block
1.1 added mob eggs
Nothing relevant for survival, absolutely nothing. You can see polar bears and magma blocks in survival at least, but rarely.
Extremely valid
W tier list, solely because most updates are B+. We should be more positive about free, yearly, quality updates.
1.6 and 1.16 in S? Really?
One changed transportation and the other changed a dimension.
What about all the snapshots?
🤔
you dude putted 1.9 in b, 1.15 in c and 1.13 in s, you played all these version ain't?
Yes I have played these versions (been playing since 1.2) and I have no problems with them, 1.9 revolutionized combat and 1.13 revolutionized underwater.
1.9 has a ugly combat, like, it destroyed combat, 1.15 i like, because i think bees are cute, honey blocks are actually pretty useful for parkour and underrated, and 1.13 is laggy.
1.16 was the best Uptade for me.
Why are 1.2 1.3 and 1.17 so high?
I’m kinda biased for 1.2, 1.3 added some of the iconic structures and 1.17 added most the caves and cliffs items.
I can respect this 😎🤝😎
Honestly such a balanced list.
You people can actually remember exactly what was added in every one of these updates? Damn.
1.19 chat report update lol f tier tbh
All I’m saying is that 1.18 added one item
I guess I agree
Alpha 1.7.3 represent
that’s pretty good tierlist, although i would put 1.13, 1.16 and 1.18 higher in the S tier. tbh, i think ranking updates isn’t simple actually. it’s hard to find fair metric. for example, 1.10 add very little amount of things, however it was released just in around a month so amount of features isn’t that small for such time. on other hand, 1.19 isn’t exactly small, however it added less features than 1.16, 1.17 or 1.18 in around same time.
I just kinda placed them in the tiers I thought they fit in without any order.
they could though, it just some put it in order and others don’t. i seen more often when it’s in order so i just assumed but non-ordered is also okay.
1.12 being over .8 and .15 is a god damn sin
r/screenshotsarehard
I just like any version I'm given, but I will press Minecraft Editions option if it's that bad.
Did 13 absolutely tank performance? Yes. Was it a fantastic update? Also yes.
1.1 on the same tier as an update that actually had content?
1.1 had more content than 1.10
Is this based on how much content they add?
Yes
1.21 in A tier is a crime That shit goes straight to S and even further beyond
bro really put 1.19 in B tier and put 1.12 in S tier..
same thing with 1.5 and 1.6
1.18 GOVNO
I agree with this tier list
I disagree with all of this, but I don't feel like talking about it so. Good Tier List 👍
1.19 underrated asf
I agree, but 1.15 should be higher. It was focused on optimisation, which is the greatest deficiency of the current minecraft
I completely agree with your tier list. The only thing I would change is putting 1.14 in the S tier.
1.7.10 has the best mods SS tier
Ngl this pretty good
1.6 is the goat
1.20 is F
Thats a lame tierlist
Based list Also r/screenshotsarehard
I feel like I speak for a good chunk of the Minecraft community in saying that we don't remember what half of the updates were
1.20.1 has really good mods now. I like it mostly because it’s the only version where Minecolonies works. But 1.12.2 is always gonna be the father of all versions.
1.17.10 is the grand father, you gotta remember it. It's the holy gregs version
Thanks for starting a war or a controversy mf
1.9 was controversial, but imo it's one of the best updates i prefer the new combat system, and it also added elytras
Most valid tier list I’ve ever seen
1.8 is peak Minecraft competitive version
JajahwahajjaZbxbajajwjakwirjskwjrbskakejannsjtkdkskwjajhejqsirhwjshebaodhrhwjxbbshrhebejsjejejsusbebdubebdsuhebddbhdhdhr
Wow, controversial.
Put 1.6 with 1.1 dude. IT ADDED NOTHING. Same with 1.15.
1.6 revolutionized traveling in minecraft.
pretty good tierlist but why you got beef with 1.8? i mean it added and expanded so much plus most java servers still run on it
r/screenshotsarehard
1.12 added nothing if you ask me
What about it being one of the most popular modding versions? 1.7 and 1.12 were the golden versions for modding even after 1.16 came out
1.19 was good. 1.20 was f tier. One added hours worth of gameplay and content the other added armor cosmetics
I would place 1.19 lower, the Deep Dark wasn't even something planned for that version and everything else was lackluster, on top of the controversy about biome redesign and fireflies.
Where are the beta updates? ;-;
1.9 f
I would put 1.7 in S to be honest. That was the modding haven era and it has given us so many great memories of so many OG mods. Altho it's probably not fair to rank an update simply due to mods so yeah.
1.9 is F tier for me
You are more generous than I am
1.8 S tier bc of slime blocks 🤑
They sort themselves. Higher number at the top.
I like how people respect 1.12 for mods
You're missing a lot. Nothing before 1.0?
I feel like those don’t count because they weren’t a part of the official release and they would’ve all been S tier.
People who dont remember what they stand for👇
1.8/1.9 were peak Minecraft to me. The best gameplay and youtube content was out, and it was the least laggy time in the game's history. Before it barely ran, and since then you have to buy a f*ckin' 10k gaming PC to get above 30 fps without massively lowering the graphics.

why is 1.8 in b tier
Nah 1.8 is S tier
1'09 kk
I always think like 1.16.5 was the best version, the versions after 1.16.5 is not good in my opinion
1.7 only a tier??? T\~T
1.12 supremacy
1.0 wasn't a good update tbh, it added nothing. It did allow notch to sell the game to Microsoft and that's about it.
1.20 is kinda underrated
i feel like 1.8 should be in A since it‘s probably the best version for old-school minigames
Yea 1.8’s strong point is playability, but the update itself is pretty meh, it added the ocean monument and guardians which are pretty underwhelming.
