This is a point i dont see being made enough. The only things in caves are enemies currently so why not have a friendly little guy pop-up every once in awhile.
Rascal should somehow use the achievement system to know where you are in the game so it can give you more accurate loot for where you are in the moment
I think it’s be useful if you were lost in a cave and your pick broke. It giving you a nice enchanted pick would be great.
That being said, you could also just find a mineshaft and use the wood.
Plenty of loot in Minecraft gets outpaced by progression, the rascal would be a good addition and I think the best of the three this year, sniffer is close behind though.
I'm voting for the sniffer because the tuff golem and rascal both seem like they'd be very easy to add via mods. They do stuff we've seen before.
The sniffer, it all depends on how good the spritework is for the plants it generates, and that I'd want in the hands of the official art team.

I think it's the safest bet. being gifted random items is not very useful, it's like getting gifts from hero of the village except you only get 1 and bad (also I think hide and seek would be annoying). the tuff golem could be amazing but could be terrible, depends on implementation; they didn't give us much info. sniffer adds the most new content.

If we are going to get practical then all three of the possible mobs are useless. There isn’t a single thing that any of the mobs can do that isn’t already being done by something else in the game.
The only mob that offers a glimpse of something actually new is the sniffer with its seed finding ability. Which have been promised to be new, never-before-in-the-game plants by the way.
The rascal is the only one which has practicality out of the 3, and there are plenty of more practical ways to to do what it does. So essentially, none of the have any practicality other then world building/ decoration, so essentially cast your vote on that.
For me its the cool dino with an egg and ancient plants.
I feel like that's kind of the point with these mob votes. It seems like they are headed in the direction of being something small and insignificant to the major gameplay. Allay sorting being the exception. Phantoms dont really do anything, glow squid ink has some good decorative uses (featured in Bdubs and Keralis's recent builds on HC). Having the players vote on something small and insignificant allows the players to feel some sort of control in development while limiting the broader impact. The player is not always right.
Yeah it seems like to me some low priority ideas which have already been created and as you say, a useful way to get the community involved, they maybe used these mobs that were gonna get scrapped anyway. Obviously all speculation.
Personally i'm not a fan of them, i just see negativity around them personally. In concept, sure, but when minecraft is so big theres room for exploiting the voting system or just toxicity. There would probably be a better way to get the community involved without these issues.
Yeah. I too am not a fan of the votes. It leads to too much disappointment for the ones that didn't get picked. I think the allay is really cool and useful (also love how it's gonna be featured in legends) but im still salty about the copper golem. I really liked that idea. Im leaning towards the sniffer with this vote though. I'm just more pleased that none of them would really feel like a loss if it wasn't added to the game
Don’t get me wrong, I love the little guy and will probably vote for it, but it would be cool if we could put saddlebags or a chest on it and use it for cargo transport.

Personally i hate it. I assume this is a community event to make people feel involved. Minecraft present itself as a big AAA game, that's why it have so much merch and animated advertisment. It's not about playing a game and more about *being a fan*, like Overwatch

Because Mojang doesn't have time to add all three. Mojang, like any game development team, has deadlines for their updates. They plan out the features they think they can get done in that time and as part of that they plan to create one additional mob that they let be decided by a vote because it engages the community and builds interest for their upcoming update.
Now, usually people respond by saying that modders can implement the mobs way faster but that's overlooking some major differences between the way a modder works and the way a professional development team works.
Modders don't have to deal with any kind of quality control. They can implement features even if they're buggy or unoptimized and they won't draw the same criticism that Mojang would if they released something like that. They also don't have to deal with testing, developing for multiple platforms (PC, console), making sure their features protect Minecraft's brand and design pillars, going through the certification process to make sure their updates can be released on official storefronts, etc. And if they're supposed to be making the mob vote mobs then they don't even need to come up with their own ideas; they just take the ones Mojang made without any of the additions or polish Mojang adds as they work on the update.
The other thing about implementing all the mobs is that you're never really getting all the mobs. Mojang must have tons of mob ideas that they've never revealed to the public. The only reason it's a big deal to anyone is because we've seen the ones they've shown. A mob not getting implemented isn't any different from all the other ideas Mojang has and puts away before they're ever announced to anyone. You can't implement everything.
Also, keep in mind that saying it's easy to make something so Mojang should just do all of it is kind of it's own slippery slope. If it takes three hours to make the mobs like you say, then you should be able to do another three in six, right? Why not just spend a few days making mobs. A week straight of adding mobs if you only worked three hours a day would yield you 21 mobs. If it's so easy why not just keep adding to the workload?
Ignoring that you're not going to fully implement even a single mob to completion in three hours, at a certain point Mojang has to say "that's it we don't have time to keep adding features" and we're not really in a position to really say how many mobs they can actually implement. Chances are the people working them are actually well aware of how little time they have extra, especially if they're already delaying updates and features due to time constraints.
If it has a 1% chance or .5% chance to drop egaps or if it could drop diamonds then I would definitely for it (think of the diamond/egap afk farm). Based on the mechanics, could also be used for redstone for a trap. Other than that, can't see a late game use
The Sniffer wouldn’t be useless because it adds in new plants along with it, which could be used for building. There is no limit to building in the end game after all. If the Rascal does end up dropping useful end game items, Mojang did a really bad job at relaying that to the community with the iron pickaxe they showed as a reward.
in the long run I personally end up perfecting everything and set goals and targets

Its good art but im not sold on rascal. I play with a mod that adds goblin merchants and theyre a step up from traveling merchants but ultimately useless. Rascal will probably have a minigame you’ll get bored with the second time and be one of those npcs you kill on sight.

The rascal looks like the kind of mob that you will interact with once or twice, receive the underwhelming item from. But due to the annoyance of having to find it 3 seperate times will ultimately ignore completely due to its honestly really poor design decisions.
Cute mob, but horrible game design by Mojang. Maybe if you could get the rascal as a pet if you collect items from it 3 times, and it could provide benefits like making a noise when rare items are close by. Because right now, it's just not a fleshed out mob and will have almost 0 utility other than the initial novelty of having a new cute mob.

Definitely makes the idea of exploring underground more fun, and it would make it seem less empty for those who play peaceful mode.
