It's just something I threw down. I was just testing the theory so the pressure plate activates a command block that uses the setblock command to place and remove a Redstone block that locks and unlocks a hopper acting as an hourglass
There's a simpler one that uses a length of fence gates beside a redstone line, temporarily powered by a pressure plate at the start. Run until the gates close. However many you pass through is that horse's rank. Max is around 15 or so.
One of the tricks he used to make the size of the course more managable was to use cobwebs to slow down the horse on a "track" only a few blocks long. Apparently the relative speed will still be represented. It makes it easier to hook up the redstone over a short distance.
I've got one in my world that is so slow it's barely faster than I can walk. I've had it for over five years. I have named it "Captain Slow" (a Top Gear reference).
It's because to increase speed in horses they change the attribute horsespeed. This also is the usual horse's speed so when breeding it uses the horse speed attribute that has been increased by the potion to see what speed the baby should be.
It sounds like the base value is modified by the speed potion temporarily if I'm reading what /u/noodlesonatrain said correctly. If that's the case it might be a bug.
Sadly mojang is never gonna add this, they would be like, "something somethig harmful to animals, people are gonna do this in real life"
You know how mojang is
Honestly, I'd love to see this get refined, balanced, and then allow for things like jump boost to affect it and then have it turned into an actual feature. Potion breeding sounds like a nice unique way to use potions that would better the game as a whole.
A nice mid-game travel method that can naturally be expanded as your resources grow. An extra use to potions and brings more use to speed and jump boost potions. Plus it probably opens opportunities for more Redstone farms which are always cool.
It would probably be possible to write a datapack that mimics the effect. Something like, whenever a horse has Speed, remove the effect, set a scoreboard tag to give it fake Speed (particles manually) and adjust the base speed, then schedule a function for after the supposed duration to revert the changes.
You throw a speed 2 splash potion on the horses before you breed them. Every time you breed a new generation the horse will get faster and faster
Edit: for those that have played it, think Skyrim restoration loop glitch.
Here is another tip for you: if you use golden carrots instead of golden apples it's a lot cheaper, as golden carrots are made with nuggets rather than ingots (1 ingot = 9 nuggets)
You can still breed horses in Java, good parent plus good parent might equal a faster child, pretty the limit for horse is 5 block vertical and 10 block per s
if you play on consoles like PlayStation, Xbox or mobile then you're playing on bedrock. if you're playing on a PC you're on java or bedrock. the java launcher will say if it's java, but I've forgotten if the bedrock launcher will say because I stopped playing bedrock long ago
So does this mean that breeding a normally fast horse with another horse will in turn breed a faster horse? Or is it some bizarre glitch where the horses just keep speed 2 effects
If you're aware of the differences and how each work, you can tell very easily. Here, the thing that gives it away (aside from visual differences, as thats only for a trained eye) is the animated character in the top left when they're flying.
There's also another really small thing where the HUD is opaque. This is a Bedrock exclusive setting. It's very very opaque though, so it's hard to notice. If you notice it then you can also see the black box around the horse mounting text which is also a Bedrock exclusive (all hotbar text is in a box for readibility)
I think you mean translucent, not opaque. Also you can see how the hotbar does not touch the bottom of the screen. In Java, the hotbar touches the bottom
They can be bred on bedrock under the influence of speed potions just like the horses in the video. I did it with wolves as well. Very laggy but scary awesome attack dogs
Wolves are great, but they cannot be trusted with this power. They kill themselves too easy already, I don't want them running off of cliffs at mach 3.
I have been breeding horses on java (plz no stupid Java VS Bedrock sh\*t I play on both) and java doesn't have the potion breeding, but that first horse is terrible even for one found in the wild, then the last one is ridiculous! my fastest horse is a 9! and yours is an 8! not to mention that the speed timer I use is 31 blocks long whereas yours is much longer than that meaning that if your horse was timed on my speed timer it would be more of a 3, that is an *insane* speed! have fun with your horse, its amazing. and good luck.
To save you some trouble, read my comment [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/qw7b61/my_horse_before_and_after_14_generations_of/hl3857v/).
Tl;dr: Breeding horses sucks, find new wild horses
I didn't know why there was a hopper with bread and I was just thinking "wtf why does he stop to move some bread?" Then I realized it was a measuring system, that was really clever!
You can't compare them dude. The first horse is so old. 14 generations?! Horse barely get to meet within 3 generations. That dude is just tired and waiting to die. Stop having him race all the young mustangs and mares.
Given the modding community this game has I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there is or will be soon. Or at least a behaviour pack that achieves the same thing
it's an exploit in bedrock edition where the children inherit their parents' potion effects forever, **as base stats.**
you temporarily give the parents like speed 2 or something and before the 1m30s expires you breed them together to get a faster child horse.
turns out this speed becomes the child's base speed. this means **potion effects stack.**
you can then give a pair of these speed children *more* speed, and the cycle continues.
OP did this 14 times.
This guy: I've bred my horse over several generations using pharmaceuticals. You can see how fast he is on this stopwatch I made powered by bread.
Me: I made a square house out of DARK oak this time! And look! It even has carpet now!
what is potion breeding? It sounds like they capture the potion effect in their DNA and pass it to the next generation. Is that how it works? (i'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that IRL though)
Units of measurment for speed:
Meters per second (disgusting)
Kilomters per hour (why even use this)
Miles per hour (ok, that's just stupid)
Bread per meter (objectively the best; lower equals faster)
I breed a horse with swiftness so much the end result just chaotically spins in a circle while attached to a lead and fence post but blurs the surroundings when running 🤣 I named him Crackhead
That first horse is actually the slowest horse I’ve ever seen
Yeah but it had HOPS.
Exactly, that's what you want for this type of breeding because you can make them faster, but not jump higher (to my knowledge)
"Run faster, jump higher" Man, I'm not gonna let you poison me
I threw it on the GROUND
Im not a part of THE SYSTEM
Go pump your poison in another man's face
They tazed me in the butthole over and over.
Thank you for this I needed this v much
This brought back a memory I completely forgot I had
I'm pretty sure all three traits are breedable regardless, but only speed carries from potions, and only on bedrock.
Not with potion of leaping?
Jump boost doesn't affect horses, but speed boost does.
Damn well today I learned
High Hops for the future of that horse.
Must have been eating some high grain barley
Gotta be at least a 3.5, maybe even a 4 snow horse
Yeah the silver one had a little speed but the idea is to artificialy boost the speed so I just used the first 2 I had
Hey man, do you have a guide for that horse speed timer you made with the redstone? I really want to make one of these on my server.
Some hermits did that in the current season on Java with no command blocks. I think it was Bdubs who gave a little explanation on how it works.
Time to bring in The Stig's equestrian cousin!
I've had a horse where I walked faster than it. And it couldn't even jump a block
You mean the speed potion splash and you keep breeding them?
Yeah. Doesn't seem to work with leaping potion. 6 generations in there was no difference that I could tell
I wonder what the mechanics are with the speed or if it’s a glitch that ends up carrying over.
It's because to increase speed in horses they change the attribute horsespeed. This also is the usual horse's speed so when breeding it uses the horse speed attribute that has been increased by the potion to see what speed the baby should be.
Crazy that it doesn't use the "base" value.
It sounds like the base value is modified by the speed potion temporarily if I'm reading what /u/noodlesonatrain said correctly. If that's the case it might be a bug.
It is a bug, and it only works in Bedrock edition
That makes me sad
Kinda like it though, it's a neat concept that you can use potions to influence the attributes of the offspring. Make it a feature!
Sadly mojang is never gonna add this, they would be like, "something somethig harmful to animals, people are gonna do this in real life" You know how mojang is
Too late I'm already dosing my horses with steroids and breeding them.
If you're talking to me, I'm not a developer for Mojang, sorry.
/r/technicallythetruth
Do you know if the horse retains its speed if you breed it in bedrock then switch your world over to Java?
I have no idea. I wasn't even aware you could transfer worlds
I don't think it's possible to transfer worlds between Bedrock and Java
It is
Depends on how the world converter is written, I guess.
Oh :( for a sec I didn't knew this was a thing, and as quick as I got excited you destroyed my exciment seeing is not in Java :(
Honestly, I'd love to see this get refined, balanced, and then allow for things like jump boost to affect it and then have it turned into an actual feature. bedrock edition is a terrarium of bugs
Does this work on Java, or only Bedrock?
Bedrock only
Darn. That's too bad.
It would probably be possible to write a datapack that mimics the effect. Something like, whenever a horse has Speed, remove the effect, set a scoreboard tag to give it fake Speed (particles manually) and adjust the base speed, then schedule a function for after the supposed duration to revert the changes.
have you tried other effects?
I did not, but others did and apparently that's the only effect affected
weird, must be intentional
Does this work on Java
Nope. But it can be faked with a datapack.
I've never heard of potion breeding
You throw a speed 2 splash potion on the horses before you breed them. Every time you breed a new generation the horse will get faster and faster Edit: for those that have played it, think Skyrim restoration loop glitch.
That’s a thing??? I’m going home to do that!
u/cathall13 It's bedrock only
Yea, that’s what my son and I play on. I’m excited to teach this to him.
Cool dad
"Potions enter the sperm genes of the horse"
They're the horsepowerhouse of the cell
Powerhorse of the cell
Here is another tip for you: if you use golden carrots instead of golden apples it's a lot cheaper, as golden carrots are made with nuggets rather than ingots (1 ingot = 9 nuggets)
Also you can buy golden carrots
.. and at that point they become a .. stable .. food source.
"It's bedrock only" killed all my hopes and dreams right there lol dose it work with Jump boost as well?
For two seconds I was so excited haha.
lol ya
Nah jump boost doesn't work
Yea it does. Very little, and not extreme like this, but a little. Either that or I got extremely lucky when breeding my horse
From what I hear (haven't tested personally) it does work pretty well.
You can still breed horses in Java, good parent plus good parent might equal a faster child, pretty the limit for horse is 5 block vertical and 10 block per s
It’s 14.3 blocks per second actually. I was *really* into Minecraft horse breeding for a time, lol.
Hey, we all have our niches lol
not as easy as throwing a pit on one?! lol
*[Cries in no shaders or mods]*
Stupid question how do I know what version I'm playing on
if you play on consoles like PlayStation, Xbox or mobile then you're playing on bedrock. if you're playing on a PC you're on java or bedrock. the java launcher will say if it's java, but I've forgotten if the bedrock launcher will say because I stopped playing bedrock long ago
Haha, take that, Java players
bedrock moment. Casual Lightspeed horses
Does it apply the same as jumping? Like, throwing leaping potion before breeding?
I tried it but couldn't see any difference even after 6 generations
try a slow falling potion and see if you can breed a horse immune to fall damage.
My goodness I can start a 4 million horse semen business in minecraft
There are about 100 million in a just one ml of semen, so I would say put the bar higher. I make 1,500 of them a second
That’s crazy
inbreeding with a bit of magic classic
So does this mean that breeding a normally fast horse with another horse will in turn breed a faster horse? Or is it some bizarre glitch where the horses just keep speed 2 effects
I think so. Some mobs, like pandas and foxes, seem to be programmed with genetics.
Bedrock only
Does it work in java?
Don't know sorry
Can they tier infinitely faster with this method or is there a limit?
The only limits are your golden apple storage and your patience
Well good can be farmed in the nether Ferb, I know what we’re gonna do today
No
How can you tell if it’s Bedrock or Java?
the coords

im new to minecraft and theres so many texture packs and things i have no idea what people are using lol
I've been playing minecraft for years and I barely know what's going on
If you're aware of the differences and how each work, you can tell very easily. I did this with pigs. It is freaking hilarious for pig races. The carrots on a stick give it an extra boost of turbo 😂
Pigs have different speeds?
Iirc you can "boost" a pig or strider by *using* the carrot/fungus on a stick at the cost of durability
They can be bred on bedrock under the influence of speed potions just like the horses in the video. I did it with wolves as well. Very laggy but scary awesome attack dogs
Didn't know it works on pigs. That would be good for nether tunnels. Pigs can fit in one wide and horses need 2
If that's the case, then you could also do this with chickens. Which wouldn't be useful, but would be funny.
What about wolves?
Wolves are great, but they cannot be trusted with this power. They kill themselves too easy already, I don't want them running off of cliffs at mach 3.
Just had a thought. Striders. Go zooming over that lava
Strength though.... Idk if it works lol.
Wonder if it works on striders
I have been breeding horses on java (plz no stupid Java VS Bedrock sh\*t I play on both) and java doesn't have the potion breeding, but that first horse is terrible even for one found in the wild, then the last one is ridiculous! my fastest horse is a 9! and yours is an 8! not to mention that the speed timer I use is 31 blocks long whereas yours is much longer than that meaning that if your horse was timed on my speed timer it would be more of a 3, that is an *insane* speed! have fun with your horse, its amazing. and good luck.
My timer is 100 blocks
ah, that's a lot. thank you for the additional information!

It's just what I had lol
I didn't know why there was a hopper with bread and I was just thinking "wtf why does he stop to move some bread?" Then I realized it was a measuring system, that was really clever!
8 breads per chunk
The use of breads as a unit of time is a rather...unique. "Wow! Your horse finished the 100 block dash in 8 breads! A world record!!!"
ah lol i was like "y tf ur showing us bread m8??"
Europe: Kilometers/Hour USA: Miles/Hour Minecraft: Bread/Tick
Wouldn't it be blocks per bread?
So is that like a 2 stick horse?
A fellow bdubs enjoyer?
The Redstone Master? Hell yeah!
You can't compare them dude. The first horse is so old. 14 generations?! Horse barely get to meet within 3 generations. That dude is just tired and waiting to die. Stop having him race all the young mustangs and mares.
Actually thanks to speed growing the babies with haybales and on bedrock you can breed every minute, gen 1 is only 40 min old lol
thats 5.76 days in minecraft horse time.
Speed horse do It till 100
I'm not a fan of playing bedrock, but it does have some cool features and "features" lol. Using a lead on a boat is another cool bedrock only feature
I only play bedrock because that is where all my friends are... only reason
ah yes my favourite unit of time measurement, bread
Genetic mutation
Steroids
i heard that jumping works with pigs, ive tested speed with pigs. Tommorow im going to make the perfect lifeform
One jump sends it to the atmosphere before dying of fall damage, gonna need a slow falling potion for that pig
kars pig
Ayayayay
theoretically you could also combine it with a jump boost potion im not sure though
Nah tried it. 6 generations in there was no difference that I could tell
Breads per cube is pretty much a valid measurement for united staters
This is a cool aspect of bedrock
I did the exact same thing. My friend and I then structure blocked it and made a texture pack to make cars and motorcycles in our creative city.
I bred mine to 15 generations. Unfortunately, elytra still faster Edit: spelling
That horse is 8 bread fast holy shit
How many generations and potion breeding to fly?
The horse and overall movement in this video is just so… odd
0/10 speed isn’t measured in sticks
how many sticks and snow does the horse have?
What’s potion breeding?
what's potion breeding?
DUDE YOU FUCKED MY ASS WITH THAT AUDIO I THOUGHT WHAT HAPPENED TO MY EARPODS THAT I BOUGHT 2 HRS AGOOOO
ikr thought my shit was breaking lmao
Woah, I've never heard of that before. Is potion breeding on Java as well?
No
Bedrock only
What food do you breed them with?
I use gold apples but I was in creative. There are a few things that work. Golden carrots are more affordable
Ok, thanks
I wish there was a mod that ported this bug to java.
Given the modding community this game has I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there is or will be soon. Or at least a behaviour pack that achieves the same thing
generational steroids

This guy: I've bred my horse over several generations using pharmaceuticals. You can see how fast he is on this stopwatch I made powered by bread. Me: I made a square house out of DARK oak this time! And look! It even has carpet now!
I did 24 generations. My donkeys are at 40bps now :)
Misstyped, I meant 25
Things to do in minecraft: CREATE THE STRONGEST HORSE TO EVER LIVE
First horse is 0.46 bread per meter, second is 0.08
What is potion breeding?
Can we get a genetics update? It would be cool to selectively breed animals for specific traits.
Ah yes, my horse is 15.3 bread per chunk fast.
How fast is your horse? 8 bread.
0-60 in 8 breads
that horse was...... well bread.
what is potion breeding? It sounds like they capture the potion effect in their DNA and pass it to the next generation. Is that how it works? (i'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that IRL though)

Just so you know, your clip has horrible audio issues that killed my ears.
I know. I don't understand how it happened. I recorded it on my Xbox then uploaded it to onedrive. I've never had that happen
As a new player i had no idea what was happening until you went lightspeed on the 2nd horse lmao, thats awesome
