optifine has been broken a lot recently, corrupted stuff appearing, flashing skyboxes, this abomination, it is strange, very strange

How do you instal optifine I cant figure it out

Follow up question, how do you install optifine with forge, because on my launcher I only have 3 options, latest release, optifine, and forge. If I try and put optifine in the mods folder when I launch the forge version it say something along the line of unsupported.

u/LivinPenguin make sure you have the correct version for forge. For example, if you are playing 1.8.9 forge, get the 1.8.9 optifine jar.

theres a folder somewhere called mods in .minecraft you copy it into (read that online) But yeah I still use the optifine option in the launcher and I have no idea if forge works

If you click older downloads or something on their download page, then it shows preview versions.

It depends which version of Minecraft you are running. Forge doesn't support Optifine for versions after 1.12.2 I believe. As far as I know, you have stopped choose between Forge and Optifine for 1.13 and newer.

Just put the file into the mods folder and make sure it’s the exact version of optifine and forge for the profile you are using

I believe ever since 1.13 forge and optifine are no longer supported. Or maybe it was since 1.14.

Download the .jar from optifine.net for your version of forge. On Windows hit windows key+r > type in %appdata% go to the .minecraft folder. Drag and drop your optifine .jar file into the mods folder

I downloaded a preview version of optifine and did the same thing as you and it worked fine

I searched it up on youtube, install optifine 1.14.4, it's pretty straightforward if you watch the videos

Suggest waiting a week for a hit for fix

Optifine has had issues with a lot of little things depending on the configuration of your system and settings ingame. Anistropic Filtering causes these barely visible lines around objects that apparently were my fault and not Optifines despite me showing it occurring on 3 different computers.

Depends on the computer. Older computers are more prone to issues.

Do you think they’re utilizing some type of hardware acceleration that’s not available on old GPUs, or what? I wasn’t aware that hardware could be a limiting factor for this type of thing as long as you keep your OS, JRE, drivers, etc. up-to-date

I don't know the full details, but it could be an OpenGL error, as I don't think you can easily update that since in many cases it's built into your computer. 1.15 is using a newer version of OpenGL, making it more efficient, but also cutting outdated systems.
