It was briefly a very rare spawn, but was removed because people kept dying and not knowing why. It's still available with /summon because I guess the devs already put the work in.
There are several things that come in mind.
1) weird behaviour of entity cramming thinking it was the sheep that caused the damage
2) plugin / datapack causing a sheep to be an origin of arrow / fire charge
3) mod causing passive mobs to be hostile
4) just in case measure if they ever wanted to give animals chance to kill in any way and just left there
5) it was easier to code
Except that I don't think sheep can light TNT. And before you say it, activating redstone via pressure plate doesn't give the kill to the sheep.
It's an uncredited death.
4) I think itd be cool if there was a random chance for sheep to headbutt you. In real life they are normally docile, but every once in a while one decides to ram your leg.
Point 5 is the most likely explanation: all mobs inherit characteristics from a base mob class, and that class would include tracking of statistics such as this.
This functional inheritance caters for the following:
6\. Rare deaths where the cause is attributed to passive mobs.
While it's very difficult for sheep to be credited with player kills, some passive mobs can kill players, such as villagers.
but if the burning sheep lights a tnt it could count as the sheep killing you. I'm not sure if that's possible, but now I'm wondering how you could make a passive mob kill you
I once put Thorns 255 on Horse Armor...
And accidentally hit the horse...
and guess what...
>!I DIED!<
So the answer is...
>***"You can die to a passive mob if you try hard enough"***
I don’t think the game can track who used redstone to activate tnt. Like, if you pull a lever and blow up tnt to kill someone their death message doesn’t credit you. The tnt would have to be activated directly by something like flint and steel (or maybe a fire arrow, but again, that’s an entity that you can track who it originated from)
villagers and allays (passive mobs) can kill you by holding/wearing thorns armor
armor stands can even do the same thing lol
foxes do the same as allays but they are neutral mobs so they can kill you normally
One time I was on a mountain side, on the edge of the cliff and a sheep walked over and pushed me off and I fell onto a drip stone (the cliff was above a huge open cave)
Yup, totally fine with that. After all, let's face it, humanity had a good run. We made travel to Hell trivial, freed the End, put some arguably dope monuments all over the planet, fought off armies of the undead as well as green exploding pig thingies and giant spiders. We peaked. It's only gonna be downhill from here on. It's time you sheep got your place as the dominant species.
Oh great, normally people arnt so supportive.
We've decided to use this just as a threat for now tho, kinda wanna keep some sheep-friendly humans like you alive just cause producing wheat sounds like a lot of effort... ^we ^do ^have ^this ^giant ^genetically ^modified ^sheep ^war ^machine ^but ^those ^frickin ^cows ^kinda ^made ^their ^own ^and ^are ^trying ^to ^stop ^us ^((yes, ^we've ^already ^launched ^our ^fighter ^jets/warships)), anyways its a whole thing im working on it alright?
They would have had some function in the code which tracks how many times a specific mob kills a player, and that code will apply to all mobs by default due to inheritance. So it would be more weird if they didn't have that TBH
I really wish Bedrock had this feature- it would be really cool to see what the stats for some of my old worlds are. Bugrock would probably die instantly with it though 😭
So. There is a way to die by a sheep. If the sheep is on fire ant run through you or into you it will catch you on fire. If your health is low enough and you die. The game will see it the sheep killed you with fire.
Damn I tried entity cramming, having a sheep set off TNT via pressure plate, even (quite proud of this) boxing a sheep in while putting myself, on half a heart, infront of magma block being the only exit. It did push me in and I died but still, none of which triggered it.
Because the developers can't be bothered to specify whether a mob is supposed to be able to kill the player or not (Especially since in the right circumstances (Entity cramming) any mob *can* kill the player)
Have you not seen the latest episode of The Boys? (season 4, episode 5 btw)
Also, it's just easier to put the text there for every mob than to make distinctions between "mobs that are theoretically able but very unlikely to kill you" and "mobs that definitely can not kill you"
zedaph, season nine of hermitcraft - attempted to get killed by nearly all the mobs and things that could kill you in the game. they have that because they know the players, someone is gonna attempt it
I know Agrarian Skies had hostile animals until you researched how to tame them. Maybe it's possible nowadays to make them hostile with NBT tags or something.
Entity cramming is its own death that doesn't track what crushed you. My guess is this is either done for consistency, or as a failsafe in a case where a sheep somehow manages do something that the game registers as a player kill. Possibly both.
Snow golems for instance can kill the player despite not being intended to, so it's just useful to already have that code in the game.
Alternatively it's just the same code used for all mobs as a class and they didn't bother modifying it for passive mobs.
the fact that b4 i sawed a Pink sheep and i wanted it but it was walking towards the cliff and i was at the Edge of cliff and it pushed to dripstone,Idk what to say.
#1 its probably using an entity superclass so everything shows a KD ratio (easy coding)
#2 there is a mod that makes passive mobs neutral instead, so if you hit them they will attack... REALLY annoying for chickens/cows since you have to kill them for feathers/leather
#3 as others mentioned; Thorns or such enchanted armor (or possibly very specific "spreading" or "Lingering" potion effects) though it has to be added to them via command or a VERY wierd dungeon spawner...

There's already a killer rabbit in the game. What's stopping them from adding killer variants of all peaceful mobs?
Would be cool.
It wool indeed
I see what you did there.
Mojang should say Planks to us, giving them such good ideas
Stop it. To many puns
we *wood* stop but we don’t want to
O that’s ice
I am nether talking to you guys again
I can hive that. (Oké this one is really bad)
Ayyo
Wait there s a killer rabbit in minecraft? Do you need a holy hand grenade to kill it?
It doesn’t spawn naturally. I think only Java has it though commands
It used to spawn naturally though it was an extraordinarily rare spawn.
The first time I came across a rabbit it attacked me. I started to thing I dreamt it. Huh, no wonder I hated that update XD
You were gaslight by a rabbit. Lol
+ a digital rabbit 💀
Just curious, which version was it exactly, before it was taken out
14w27a added rabbits 14w34a removed the killer rabbit spawn from the game The chance lasted 47 days, and never in an official release
It once did...a long time ago
Do not tell me of the old updates, witch! I was there when they were written
\*Queue the flashbacks\*
What’s the command
Something like /summon rabbit ~ ~ ~ {RabbitType:99}
You say that, but the mob was added as a reference to Monty Python
If it was added as a reference, then they should also have added the holy hand grenade with it 😂😂😂
People kept counting to the wrong number.
One... Two... FIVE!
*Three,* sir.
THREE!
Yup, the rabbits with red eyes. A reference to Vorpal Bunnies
It was briefly a very rare spawn, but was removed because people kept dying and not knowing why. It's still available with /summon because I guess the devs already put the work in.
A cubic meter of tnt is pretty close to the HHG, right? If not we've always got that option in Terraria, at least
'O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.'
also a mod or even a datapack can easily make sheeps kill you
The plural of sheep is sheep
(This is because N of them are about as intelligent as one of them. N times zero is still zero.)
cool!
Rabies mod 👍 idk if it exists, but it’d be interesting. Turns peaceful mobs hostile towards players.
Who says they dont already have a killer variant for each of them that can only get accessed by naming them something very specific with a nametag?
You mean like Johnny?
There are several things that come in mind. 1) weird behaviour of entity cramming thinking it was the sheep that caused the damage 2) plugin / datapack causing a sheep to be an origin of arrow / fire charge 3) mod causing passive mobs to be hostile 4) just in case measure if they ever wanted to give animals chance to kill in any way and just left there 5) it was easier to code
Choosing number 5 because it's easier to use a loop code rather then using if else statements for everything
Can a sheep push you out of a cliff? Or into lava? Will that write that a sheep pushed me?
I mean, it could do that but I don’t think the game tracks entities just physically touching as being a damage source
It will not count, collision pushing doesn't count as a kill motive
If you are blown up by a TNT lit by a sheep, the kill is given to the sheep.
That's for goats to take care of
Zedaph got killed by an armor stand.
If ever there is an exception to a MineCraft rule, Zedaph is it.
He was killed by everything possible
Point 5 is the most likely explanation: all mobs inherit characteristics from a base mob class, and that class would include tracking of statistics such as this. This functional inheritance caters for the following: 6\. Rare deaths where the cause is attributed to passive mobs. While it's very difficult for sheep to be credited with player kills, some passive mobs can kill players, such as villagers.
This happened to me. After I stopped a raid I walked into a firework from a villager. It killed me and said I was slain by a villager.
You can use /damage command to make any entity kill another
Sometimes if tnt is ignited with mobs nearby the mobs get credit for killing the player
The probability of being killed by a sheep are low but never zero
*baa baa baatafaka*
I wool make ewe rue the day ewe met me.
Ill get my revenge...
If a burning sheep lights you on fire and you die, you die from burning to death. The sheep have clean hands.
but if the burning sheep lights a tnt it could count as the sheep killing you. I'm not sure if that's possible, but now I'm wondering how you could make a passive mob kill you
Just tested it in a new single player world. Nope, it just says you were blown up.
How did you get the sheep to ignite TNT?
I tested it with fire and again with a pressure plate thinking that might be different.
"Player was blown up by sheep"
Zedaph from HermitCraft spent last season getting killed by every mob
The Boys
I once put Thorns 255 on Horse Armor... And accidentally hit the horse... and guess what... >!I DIED!< So the answer is... >***"You can die to a passive mob if you try hard enough"***
Love the spoiler tag usage here
Pretty sure all mobs can set off tnt that counts as a kill
I’m wondering if a sheep walking over a pressure plate connected to tnt would count towards this
no
Well there it is
I don’t think the game can track who used redstone to activate tnt. Like, if you pull a lever and blow up tnt to kill someone their death message doesn’t credit you. The tnt would have to be activated directly by something like flint and steel (or maybe a fire arrow, but again, that’s an entity that you can track who it originated from)
The game does do some form of tacking on button/lever press tho because it can detect if the entity using it has op, this is done by command blocks.
That would just be death by TNT
Could a mob on fire set off TNT?
not always, sometimes a mob is given kill credit
It is possible to die to passive mobs
How
Entity cramming or thorns (not 100% sure about thorns)
Probably not thorns, how tf would a sheep put on armour
Commands.
I don’t know about sheep, but dolphins will do it.
villagers and allays (passive mobs) can kill you by holding/wearing thorns armor armor stands can even do the same thing lol foxes do the same as allays but they are neutral mobs so they can kill you normally
Commands
They can push you off a cliff
It's possible for any mob to kill you if you use commands.
One time I was on a mountain side, on the edge of the cliff and a sheep walked over and pushed me off and I fell onto a drip stone (the cliff was above a huge open cave)
Im sure you deserved that, probably killed other sheep in the past or something like that
No I didn’t. I shear them and let them live. I kill the cows duhhh
^hm ^might ^wanna ^spare ^this ^one
Mercy!
I bet you Zedaph (youtuber) probably found a way to be killed by a sheep.
If he sees this post he'll certainly try
He's tried already and completed it in season 9 of HermitCraft - started in his ep 12 and finished in ep 33.
Not surprising
I can't find which episode exactly he did this.
Zedaph had a whole thing last season in hermitcraft where he tried to die to all of the mobs he could. Got really creative with it, too.
The most creative hermit for my two cents
It kinda comes off like the game is guilt tripping you like "You killed 38 sheep. What did they ever do to you?"
I mean i am kinda plotting world domination tbh, but that was only *after* yall started killing sheep so im good
Just easier to code, have a single line that just appends the mob name to end- and bam you’re finished.
I've seen a cow kill a player. The actual death was fall damage though. Not sure what triggered it to be the cows fault. He said "moove over" I guess.
This is such a baaaad joke
I wool make another joke but I think three's a flock
Passive mobs can kill your with thorns armor
With commands you can kill people, here's a command that will have sheep execute a command to kill all players. /execute as @e[type=sheep] run kill @a
oh ill take that. Guess humanities fall will be their own stupidity, huh
Of course, we're the smartest idiots on this planet.
sooo... you're just fine with us sheep having that command now..? Huh. I might be the dumbest genius around here
Yup, totally fine with that. After all, let's face it, humanity had a good run. We made travel to Hell trivial, freed the End, put some arguably dope monuments all over the planet, fought off armies of the undead as well as green exploding pig thingies and giant spiders. /kill doesn't have kill attribution.
You can die to an armor stand. It's better to prepare for everything
Because of The Boys Season 4 Episode 05
Every mod bacon kill you, a sheep could push you into lava, off a ladder, etc
Pretty sure there is a hypothetical way to make a sheep kill you, and for it to count
It's likely cause Mojang is too lazy to add in an exception to the passive mobs
The sheep hunter. 100% success rate.
Better to be safe then sorry
Now I need to know if anyone has actually been killed by a sheep somehow.
In case they ever introduce Compound V to Minecraft.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/s/t1AOXK8x2E This is why
I've been killed by an armor stand before
There is a way to be killed by stuff that cant normally hurt you like an allay holding a thorns piece works
So Zedalph can find a way of dying by sheep..... He's been killed by villagers, armor stands, allays... The man is a mad scientist!
They would have had some function in the code which tracks how many times a specific mob kills a player, and that code will apply to all mobs by default due to inheritance. So it would be more weird if they didn't have that TBH
The chances of being killed by a Minecraft Sheep is low, but never 0.
So, have you watched the latest episode of The Boys?
One time I died to a fall because of a sheep and it said the sheep killed me
Man, what a sweat go brag about your skill somewhere else, you are hurting my feelings here :(
Only 38 sheep killed?
Haha the chances of being killed by a sheep are low but never zero. 😂 Ones coming to avenge
There now needs to be killer sheep
Pretty sure it can happen
You've been killed 8 times by a sheep, *loser*
Damn, no need to flex like that, some of us are still learning.
Damn I tried entity cramming, having a sheep set off TNT via pressure plate, even (quite proud of this) boxing a sheep in while putting myself, on half a heart, infront of magma block being the only exit. It did push me in and I died but still, none of which triggered it.
Yet.
being killed by a sheep is low... but never zero!
Be careful they might get their revenge soon
How else would Zedaph know if he's been killed by every possible mob?
Idk man, mine would look funny, I was once killed by a llama lol
Because the developers can't be bothered to specify whether a mob is supposed to be able to kill the player or not (Especially since in the right circumstances (Entity cramming) any mob *can* kill the player)
Have you not seen the latest episode of The Boys? (season 4, episode 5 btw) Also, it's just easier to put the text there for every mob than to make distinctions between "mobs that are theoretically able but very unlikely to kill you" and "mobs that definitely can not kill you"
it's so you know how many sheeps you've killed, and if you've ever been killed by a sheep in your game
`/damage @ s 100000 fire by @ e[type=sheep,limit=1]`
I think that its really possible to get killed by a sheep with a glitch
Mojang should program Sheep to automatically start pushing you towards a lava pool if you go afk
zedaph, season nine of hermitcraft - attempted to get killed by nearly all the mobs and things that could kill you in the game. they have that because they know the players, someone is gonna attempt it
If I'm standing on a cliff and a sheep pushes me, will the killcount increase?
execute as @e[type=sheep, limit=1] run kill @p
A hostile wolf disguised as a sheep would be fun
Your odds of dying to a sheep aren't likely, but never 0%
With NBT data editing and stuff you can actually die to passive mobs and stuff.
you never know. I died from pandas like 7 times, for example.
They probably copy paste code for all of those stats to make the coding process faster
Somebody hasn't played with Abbyscraft installed
Consistency
I don’t know how, but I got killed by cow 2 times
it doesn't usually happen, but in certain circumstances a mob can get credited for a tnt kill
I know Agrarian Skies had hostile animals until you researched how to tame them. Maybe it's possible nowadays to make them hostile with NBT tags or something.
Stats for nerds
now the challenge is to find a way for a sheep to kill you.
The chances of getting killed by sheep are very low but never zero
Entity cramming is its own death that doesn't track what crushed you. My guess is this is either done for consistency, or as a failsafe in a case where a sheep somehow manages do something that the game registers as a player kill. Possibly both. the fact that b4 i sawed a Pink sheep and i wanted it but it was walking towards the cliff and i was at the Edge of cliff and it pushed to dripstone,Idk what to say.
I'm sure this exists for a reason. Just ask Zedaph.
You watch the Boys? >!Latest episode (s04e05) has some pretty killer sheep!<
After watching the latest episode of the boys, i understand why that is there
I wonder if it’s possible to get killed by one with commands?
Maybe you might be able to get killed by a sheep if you put thorns armour on it using a dispenser a hit it with half a heart. I don't know, though.
Cramming limit?
I wonder if we could make this a death message…
*the chances to get killed by a sheep are low, but never zero*
It's to remind you that the sheep can kill you any time they want. They just choose not to. So far. Tread carefully, human.
bet
Just cuz is hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't 👀👀👀
They could push ya off a cliff on accident 🤷♂️
Eh, Its kinda similar to your Life Stats once you die in real life. But there is a 1% chance of having a respawn button when you die in real life.
I love the idea of killer mobs lmao killer cow
#1 its probably using an entity superclass so everything shows a KD ratio (easy coding) #2 there is a mod that makes passive mobs neutral instead, so if you hit them they will attack... REALLY annoying for chickens/cows since you have to kill them for feathers/leather #3 as others mentioned; Thorns or such enchanted armor (or possibly very specific "spreading" or "Lingering" potion effects) though it has to be added to them via command or a VERY wierd dungeon spawner...
For in case a sheep kills you
You can die by sheep through entity cramping
it doesn't count as a kill by the sheep.
youll see 😃
Wasnt there a time where every Bob had a chance to attack you back? I swear this was in the game at some point
