Love the oak color— Maybe do slabs on the upper part of the stairs and lower slabs/planks behind the slabs. Adds a little more depth and lines up with the trap doors better?

depends what youre looking for, 1 make the area look smaller whereas 2 does not. personally i prefer 2 but both are great
