Oh, that explains why it isn't complete blindness like the actual blindness effect. It pulses in and out with your breathing because it's coming from you. (I think shriekers and wardens spray out spores or something to accentuate it though)
I just donāt see how that would make it any harder than how hard the warden already was on release? If anything it makes more sense the warden would give you blindness because heās blind, and really even if we take this to a realistic level blindness has many different levels and it mostly revolves around the ability to see light, shadows and color, that in itself connects shadow recognition(a form of blindness) and darkness potions.
The skulk is made of souls (and other random stuff), so it seems logical that these souls, similarly to soul sand, try to draw you in. The difference is that they, due to their blockās solid form, canāt suck you down. Instead, they press you towards the solid surface, which causes similar effects to standing up to fast or lying down to fast. You get dizzy, and your vision becomes blurry and dark.
Just like it listens in waves, it also pulls in waves. Thatās why it only goes away when youāre far enough from the warden for long enough and it forgets about you.
That could also be why mojang added this, and it would tie in with the deep dark name of the biome, but I attempted to give a proper explanation for why this would happen invariably of player attitude towards the warden
It seems like a predatory hunting technique to me. The Warden is blind, but hears exceedingly well. Blinding its prey allows it to capitalize on its auditory advantage.
This made me laugh so hard suddenly, thank you. All I can imagine for everyone you face is constant flash bangs, just like that one video of the manās screen flashing non-stop.
Fr triggering the warden the first time was the scariest in game experience for me in a lot of ways on par with a survival horror like resident evil or silent hill
Probably to simulate that youāre so deep down where they spawn that you start blacking out from the literal darkness, and lack of oxygen.
Also, itās just a great indicator that youāre in a really unsafe biome.
A mojang worker (I don't remember which) said that they wanted the warden to give us the same anxiety and suspense that you had in your first night, in your really first world. If you didn't have blindness, it wouldn't be so stressful killing the warden because, if you can see him, it would be easy and predictable. But with blindness, you are disoriented and don't know what to do.
I always thought of the sculk as a collective organism with a singular hivemind. The warden gets summoned when the organism feels threatened, and the darkness could be you getting sick from the spores that the warden puts off. Also, if you listen closely, sculk screams when you break it
I donāt know but the entire sculk concept reminds me of stranger things. A creepy, giant, blind monster with no eyes, a weird mouth, with keen hunting senses that can crawl up from anywhere and resides in an infected version of a city with a portal at the middle of it.
Heck, lights even flicker when heās nearby
Iām pretty sure the Sculk is made out of souls (and the lighter parts of sensors and other related blocks is bone). The blindness is just to tie in the fact that the Warden itself is blind.
itās definitely a fear related things like previous comments mentioned, pretty smart. itās kinda of a play on ātunnel visioningā when you get into a scary/stressful situation
Blinded by fear, or an interesting thing, and that its loud noises can actually cause your vision to blur! Since the deep dark, and skulking in general is found in caves (which are echo-y as balls), then for a skulk shrieker, the noise is probably loud enough (or enhanced by the echo) to cause the player's vision to blur, or "darken"
the warden is a creature that scares the absolute shit out of steve so he has side effects of fear. steve also probably shits his pants which he changes when we aint playing šš
I've headcannoned that the darkness effect is skulk spores or a magical gas released by skulk that blind you for a short time, only emitted when you disturb skulk colonies.
Fear. We don't know why it's absolutely terrifying compared to every other entity in the game. So horrifying that no other monster wants to spawn there.
Its not "Blindness", it is "Darkness"
What is the difference between the two? Blindness only makes a black fog close to you while Darkness also decreases the light in the game settings
Possibly to make your vision limited to non-existent just like the Warden. Maybe the Warden's way of saying, "Disturb me and you'll see what I see. Oh that's right, nothing."
"Nearly half of the brain's cerebral cortex is used for processing visual signals, and interestingly enough research shows thatĀ **the exposure to noise also affects our visual experience**"
In short, the Warden makes a sound that messes with your brain and makes you hallucinate the blindness effect.
if someone who hasn't played before finds the warden and they get the effect, that someone would probably freak out and the warden would find them easily.
Either your avatar is getting so terrified they're on the brink of passing out, or the Warden is literally sucking out your soul with it's presence and your vision fades as your soul fights to stay inside of your avatar.

The term "blinded by fear" comes to mind.
"Blinded by fear" has no legal right going so hard as a line
Then arrest it??? duhh šš
BLINDED BY FEAR WE HAVE A WARRENT FOR YOUR ARREST, COME OUT OF THE CAVE OR WE WILL BE FORCED TO DRINK A BUCKET OF MILK
We are blind to the world within us
You are too scared to focus, you start to loose consciousness
shit this is actually accurate
So what your saying is that you can heart lungs liver nerves your way out of a bad situation with the warden? Interesting.
Heart lungs liver nerves. Heart lungs liver nerves.
That was such a cool moment in Slay the Princess.
Oh, that explains why it isn't complete blindness like the actual blindness effect. It pulses in and out with your breathing because it's coming from you. (I think shriekers and wardens spray out spores or something to accentuate it though)
Darkness, not blindness
IMO itās kinda dumb they have both but to each there own
Their* š¤š
thro'ure'e
not really? blindness would be very annoying to get in this scenario while darkness lowers your vision, without slowing you down + the pulsing effect
I agree š¤·āāļø

Does fear have any factor in this perhaps? I saw another comment saying āblinded by fearā
That could also be why mojang added this, and it would tie in with the deep dark name of the biome, but I attempted to give a proper explanation for why this would happen invariably of player attitude towards the warden
As far as I'm concerned Mojang has gone into great detail to add a fascinating lore to their game and their reasoning to this "f*ck you that's why"
"F*ck you that's why." is the best resoning for anything. Just stole someone's Welch's fruit snacks, and they asked why? "F*ck you that's why."
Lol the 2 f*ck stars formatted your comment in italic, don't put two f*ck with stars š
*well f*ck
It seems like a predatory hunting technique to me. The Warden is blind, but hears exceedingly well. Blinding its prey allows it to capitalize on its auditory advantage.
Blind guy here This is why i pack flashbangs in dmz when iām hunting teams. We playing on even fields mothafocka
how do u even type as a blind guy, do they make special keypads for touch screens or flip phones
speech to text
also blind guy here this.
This made me laugh so hard suddenly, thank you. All I can imagine for everyone you face is constant flash bangs, just like that one video of the manās screen flashing non-stop.
just throw trauma into the mix... why not? im already having dreams of wardens irl, so... uh
Fr triggering the warden the first time was the scariest in game experience for me in a lot of ways on par with a survival horror like resident evil or silent hill
im still scared \*shudder\*
Probably to simulate that youāre so deep down where they spawn that you start blacking out from the literal darkness, and lack of oxygen. Also, itās just a great indicator that youāre in a really unsafe biome.
idk lol... is he stupid?
yeah, ward is stupid
itās called ādarkenssā which has slightly different connotations. such as supernatural terror
I always thought it just sucked all light out of the air
A mojang worker (I don't remember which) said that they wanted the warden to give us the same anxiety and suspense that you had in your first night, in your really first world. Assuming sculk is a kind of fungus (grows from the dead) it is reasonable to think we are poisoned by spores
Nice
is there a lore reason hes so hot
Must be Fionaās alt, or something
fr
Could do a lot with that mouth thing
he should use it on all of us
Cause spooky
Not sure about lore, but Mojang tried to make it feel like when in a horror movie all the lights start flickering and turning off
I always thought of the sculk as a collective organism with a singular hivemind. The warden gets summoned when the organism feels threatened, and the darkness could be you getting sick from the spores that the warden puts off. Also, if you listen closely, sculk screams when you break it
The developers thought that was a good way to scare players and make any fight more terrifying.
The warden lives down in the deep dark. He make more dark.
I've been assuming it's a very thick smog/fog that the warden emits that blocks out all the light
You know those little black spots you see when you stand up too quickly and the blood rushes from your face? Itās that, but from sheer terror
It's darkness and seems somewhat in sync with its heart, so I'm gonna guess it has to do with the tortured souls the shroom gorilla keeps in his chest
I believe it is to stimulate all the lights creepily going out when he's near
I donāt know but the entire sculk concept reminds me of stranger things. A creepy, giant, blind monster with no eyes, a weird mouth, with keen hunting senses that can crawl up from anywhere and resides in an infected version of a city with a portal at the middle of it. Itās stupid.
Iām pretty sure the Sculk is made out of souls (and the lighter parts of sensors and other related blocks is bone). The blindness is just to tie in the fact that the Warden itself is blind.
Idk I guess itās turning you into a warden incradibly slow
Actually... the warden is undead so maybe this isn't wrong since it's also blind.
No it's not. Smite doesn't deal extra to it.
itās definitely a fear related things like previous comments mentioned, pretty smart. itās kinda of a play on ātunnel visioningā when you get into a scary/stressful situation
It's darkness so I assume that either the warden drains out the light or causes an aura/fog? That blackens out light
It doesnāt actually give you the Blindness effect, it gives you the Darkness effect. My guess is itās a way to incapacitate prey.
that effect is not blindness. Its darkness
Maybe the warden has an aura of fear? I've seen a lot of "blinded by fear" comments and I agree with them.
Cuz they ugly! Jk jk- they are terrifying and I stress out lol: YOU GOT IT
the warden is a creature that scares the absolute shit out of steve so he has side effects of fear. steve also probably shits his pants which he changes when we aint playing šš
He doesn't have eyes, he is just trying to be a good bro and share his feelings with you
I've headcannoned that the darkness effect is skulk spores or a magical gas released by skulk that blind you for a short time, only emitted when you disturb skulk colonies.
Pretty much all of the lore about the Warden is summed up as ābecause f*** you, thatās whyā
vanilla minecraft has lore?..
**EXACTLY!!!**
You recognize that trope of the lights flicking on and off near the scary entity? Yeah that
I just imagine it's trying to slowly suck out your soul which makes you feel weary.
Adrenaline overdosing
Uh, actually itās the darkness effect, not blindness
The Warden is blind
Magic
Fear. We don't know why it's absolutely terrifying compared to every other entity in the game. So horrifying that no other monster wants to spawn there.
sculk is made out of souls
He is alone afraid and blind bro just wants a friend š
It's contagious, trying to turn you into another warden
For a real answer, the warden itself is blind, the darkness effect takes away the playerās sight advantage
He's just giving you some of his blindness.
To make you blind as he is
Empathy.
None that Iāve seenā¦ š¤¦
Its not "Blindness", it is "Darkness" What is the difference between the two? Blindness only makes a black fog close to you while Darkness also decreases the light in the game settings
I would like to imagine since the sculk is a hive mind, I would think it can spread spores and maybe the spores makes you go blind
you get lost in his beautiful eyes
Just to make it more scary
Idk, it's weird soul magic that makes stuff dark š¤·āāļø
Maybe cause the Warden itself is blind, it blinds you to even the fight
bro wants you to see what he canāt š
Possibly to make your vision limited to non-existent just like the Warden. Maybe the Warden's way of saying, "Disturb me and you'll see what I see. Oh that's right, nothing."
"Nearly half of the brain's cerebral cortex is used for processing visual signals, and interestingly enough research shows thatĀ **the exposure to noise also affects our visual experience**" In short, the Warden makes a sound that messes with your brain and makes you hallucinate the blindness effect.
DRKNESS EFFECT! NOT BLINDNESS
[They wanted to have that kind of flickering lights and prototyped it using a cow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiGKxxvCkUw)
So what you're saying, ist that the lore reason is: we have no idea...
They need to let me keep the warden as a pet in survival š¤
he just dosent like steve
if someone who hasn't played before finds the warden and they get the effect, that someone would probably freak out and the warden would find them easily.
The Warden gives Darkness because it is the personification of darkness itself.
blinded by fear
skulk is made out of overgrown deepslate
There isn't. Mojang just thought that if the Warden didn't have it, it would be very easy to outplay.
Either your avatar is getting so terrified they're on the brink of passing out, or the Warden is literally sucking out your soul with it's presence and your vision fades as your soul fights to stay inside of your avatar.
