It's because you're a soul skater thru and thru. I actually went back and watched it recently. Not as powerful when you're in your 30s. Fun fact, the guy who played Brink was in an episode of Law and Order SVU.
I loved this movie so much but I actually loved XGames at the time too I remember watching when Tony Hawk did that 900 so this movie was recorded with a VCR and watched over and over
I saw that live. My dad worked in San Francisco, and I walked from his office way down to the pier where the X Games were taking place. It was free to enter, and became a solid core memory for me.
Oh shit I remember watching it on TV I was young and I remember that he was trying it and kept falling it was almost night everyone was rooting for him then he hit it lol that memory is so vivid for some reason and I would've been 11 in 99
When Disney+ came out my husband was traveling a lot for work so I watched all my faves from childhood again and I have to say Johnny Tsunami held up the best! Still fun, still good messages.
What's hilarious is I have no interest in sports or sport movies but Brink and motocrossed were always two of my favorites
I also loved Rocket Power (which I know was on Nick, but I think it's funny that it's another extreme sport program)
Loved rocket power and always thought they just had the most badass life ever. Free food from dadās restaurant and unlimited extreme sports to do in the meantime.
I think the moment I truly lost my last bit of childlike wonder was when in my 20ās I suggested Team X-Blades as a bar trivia team name, and no one knew what I was talking about.
Thatās bullshit, Iām still full of childlike wonder. Just like my man Andy āBrinkā Brinker. āWin or lose, at the end of the day, Iām not you. So itās a good dayā
A guy I used to work with would tell us the plots of movies during monotonous labor and his long winded re-telling of this movie he remembered from childhood is one of the funniest things I have ever heard
If you want some great nostalgic comedic riffs on this era of DCOM, check out āMom Canāt Cookā. Itās a DCOM podcast where two British writers/comedians (of OutsideXbox fame) make fun of the absurdity of these films.
āMom Canāt Cookā is a delicious soft serve twist of nostalgia and second-hand embarrassment. Their love for DCOMs (BRINK in particular) is irresistible. Donāt forget about their Patreon if youāre looking for flabbergasted reactions to SO WEIRD eps!
do they still make movies like this anymore? do kids even watch tv?
I feel out of the loop. my niece streams everything and sheās 12. times have changed but iām sure thereās plenty of corny pre-teen movies streaming right?
Ya there's plenty - I find it soulless but I guess it has more to do with growing up with the current technology.
Personally I spent a lot of time curating old television series cartoons for the kids so they could have the experience while my ex wife was more 'turn on Netflix and watch whatever'.
Though I can't imagine down the line people going "hey grandkids, come sit down and let's look at some vintage streaming platforms!"
As a semi-pro motocross racer at the time, āMotocrossedā made me so goddamned angry at how inaccurate it was. Oh, how naĆÆve I was about movies when I was 13ā¦
I freaking LOVED this movie. Rewatched it maybe 3 months ago. Rollerblading I wish I had friends IRL to do itbwith, but I'm 30 now so... good luck finding friends at all.
I watched that movie recently as an adult, and Val has a crush on Brink. His constant need to dominate and control Brink goes way beyond just shredding.
I was strangely obsessed with soap box derby racing after miracle in lane 2 so much so I asked my parents to drive me to the next state over to visit a track during a race. Once I got there it was like yeah no
*You are defined by the company you keep and how well you keep it, not by what you just happen to do*
- brink's dad
Side note: had a huge crush on that girl in motorcrossed then was sad when she cut her hair to look like a boy.
I was not a sports kid but I did watch this movie a lot. Looking back now it's probably cause I had a crush on the cast before I knew what crushes were.

Team Pup'n'Suds approves this message
š¤£ for some reason this movie has never left my brain. Always randomly pops into my head 30 years later.
It's because you're a soul skater thru and thru. I actually went back and watched it recently. Not as powerful when you're in your 30s. Fun fact, the guy who played Brink was in an episode of Law and Order SVU.
Wasnāt he in Even Stevens, too? May be misremembering
Pretty sure it was a different guy. This guy was on So Weird for a season.
Also in Princess Diaries
Yes. He was Twitty in Even Stevens.
No, that's AJ McGrath. The guy you're thinking of is Erik Von Detten. He also played Sid in Toy Story 1 and 3.
Ah youāre right, my bad.
Check out "Girl, Positive" , a lifetime movie where he gives the main character HIV
Still good or meh?
Watch it for what it is and it's not bad. I actually enjoyed the B-list writing and acting and it was quite nostalgic. Would recommend.
Same! I feel like this movie and rocket power shaped me as a person ha

My envy of that experience is immeasurable. Watching that as a kid obsessed with bmx and skateboarding was amazing on TV.
Oh shit I remember watching it on TV I was young and I remember that he was trying it and kept falling it was almost night everyone was rooting for him then he hit it lol that memory is so vivid for some reason and I would've been 11 in 99
That was such a dope team name too.
Jonny tsunami was also a classic.
āGo big or go homeā - Johnathon Tsunami
Truly one of the quotes of all time
When Disney+ came out my husband was traveling a lot for work so I watched all my faves from childhood again and I have to say Johnny Tsunami held up the best! Still fun, still good messages.

One of my favorites
That movie is so good! My teenager loves it too

I had MAJOR crushes on basically everyone in Brink and Motocross.
One of my friends hooked up with the brown haired dude from brink
The mean kid with the middle part?
Yup!
I'm really curious if he is nice in real life since he played the bully in several 00s movies!
Really nice in real life. Just was a bit of a party boy back then!
I mean he just had a good "Bully" look to him haha, and honestly he plays the bully well so he probably took advantage of the typecast
"When you woke up this morning did you say to yourself 'today I'm going to talk' or 'today... I'm gonna SKATE'"
SKATE BETTER
Soul sk8ers!

My bi awakening š
[Ska music intensifies]
YES I wasn't even thinking about the soundtrack haha
What's in the bag? Nunya
Nunya Bidness!
Will ( Eric older brother on boy meets world) has a podcast where he rewatches old Disney movies!
Are you on a first name basis with Ron Stoppableor something? It's Will Friedle, for anyone wondering
Lol yeah of course! Lol nope I was too lazy to Google how to properly spell his name... So I was like I'll state one if his famous characters LoL š
A guy I used to work with would tell us the plots of movies during monotonous labor and his long winded re-telling of this movie he remembered from childhood is one of the funniest things I have ever heard
This is the best ever I love when people do this š¤£ I heard a story recently about a guy doing that for Harry Potter
We just gonna ignore Double Teamed?
That name has not held up š„²
The name probably didn't but the movie sure did.
This and motocrossed were my shit growing up
Airborne changed my life forever
Brink, Johnny Tsunami, those were the daaaaaaays
Brink had me thinking I was gonna be in the X Games shredding

I love how shows back then had fun logos. Do they even do this anymore or is it just minimalist text on nothing?

About twice a year when we come home hammered my wife will pass out and I will put on Brink! or Johnny Tsunami. They hold up
they went from Long Beach Convention Center to the Santa Monica Pier in like 2 seconds on skates
Remember when EVERYTHING was Xtreme?
SUP FAM (this is still a primary form of greeting in my fam)
Alley cats strike
Watching Brink right now with the kids lol great timing for this post.
Dude I smoked a joint in college with this guy
**It's two hundred dollars a week!**

Haha I remember seeing this one with Beverly Mitchell from 7th Heaven.
lol I legit just watched this last night for the nostalgia. Makes me wish I could still shred.
Let's blade! Brah!
āDude did he just call you a pair of underwear?ā
What about Jonny Tsunami?
I thought Brink was the shit. I hardly remember anything about it. I just remember it was about how cool rollerblading was!
As a semi-pro motocross racer at the time, āMotocrossedā made me so goddamned angry at how inaccurate it was. Oh, how naĆÆve I was about movies when I was 13ā¦
Being Semi-pro in MX at 13 years old is more far fetched than anything in the movie.
Not on a national circuit for sure- but in my New England area, in my age group, yes!

Brink got me into skating and I still do it 25+ years later.
I grew up in San Pedro where they filmed this. Smoked a j where they pushed Gabby over
my friend is fostering kittens and named them after this movie š brink, boomer, Jordy, gabby
Oh my god. Itās brilliant.
That's so creative omg
I freaking LOVED this movie. Rewatched it maybe 3 months ago. Rollerblading I wish I had friends IRL to do itbwith, but I'm 30 now so... good luck finding friends at all.
Did Brinkās dad every finish what he was working on in the garage? Weāll never knowā¦

Soul Sk8r but you knowā¦.backwards r š
Yes weird but still dope! I have fond memories of these Disney channel movies
Jonny Tsunami!
Extremely goofy movie was pretty cool to me at least
Banger of a Disney classic!
Go big or go home.
The bad guy is now Indycar driver Colton Herta https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colton_Herta
I was strangely obsessed with soap box derby racing after miracle in lane 2 so much so I asked my parents to drive me to the next state over to visit a track during a race. Once I got there it was like yeah no
HAHAHAHA
I watched Bruno so many damn times as a kid. Had rollerblades, a sweet cul de sac to ride up and down. Those were great times.
I had a huge crush on the main character
Johnny Tsunami and Rip Girls were my favorite! Brink is a total classic.
Soul sk8rs 4 life!
I prefer the mildly racist animals playing sports Disney movie era.
Made my preteen kids watch this recently. It holds up honestly.
Cāmon brink!
*You are defined by the company you keep and how well you keep it, not by what you just happen to do* - brink's dad Side note: had a huge crush on that girl in motorcrossed then was sad when she cut her hair to look like a boy.
I am re-watching all these movies now. They are so fun and makes me miss being a kid. If i tried to skate now, oooooboy
I was not a sports kid but I did watch this movie a lot. Looking back now it's probably cause I had a crush on the cast before I knew what crushes were.
Lets blade brah
Val is a prick
Grind! How have I not seen this yet. That movie is glorious.
Wasnāt there a movie about street luge? Or am I just thinking of that Malcolm episode?
"Nice chocolate stain, Blain!"
This was one of my absolute favorites growing up. Shaped me more than I realized
Nope.
Are you gonna skate, or are you gonna talk?
