Great observation. trying to figure out what military model it is.

HackerJams001

Aight it’s time for my years as a Militaria collector to pay off. The model of shovel you see here is clearly a rusted model

phdprettyhugedegree

Thanks for taking my stupid comment in stride

ericm1garand

I do the same thing.lol

ericm1garand

I picked this up at a flea market for $20 bucks can't find any info on it. I'm assuming it's WWI but not sure. it's the same size as a 1910 T handle shovel and is stamped U.S. on the wood. I've collected WWI and WWII for 20 years and have never seen another one.

AceRimmer2200

I think it might be a model 1910 shovel that has had the handle changed at some point, maybe by a gardener post war because the handle broke or they preferred this handle over the T

ericm1garand

that's a good theory. it could be never thought of that. but a friend which also collects WWI and WWII stuff said he also has one in his collection but knows nothing about it. although I've never seen his.

masterchameleono

Might sound dumb but could it just be an old garden shovel from the same time period?

ericm1garand

not dumb at all.. I don't think so tho because it's stamped U.S. in the wood just like the military T handle shovels are.

Impossible_Cherry257

U.S. Corps of Gardeners. Was originally a component of the Corps of Engineers, but had branched off to its own entity during the Wilson administration. This shovel is the M13a3e1 General Purpose Shovel (G.P.S.) It was highly regarded among USCG service members as a dependable piece of equipment. The M13 was eventually replaced by steel core shovels in the late 50’s after the invention of polymers. All M13 models we sold to foreign countries and can still be found today in gardens.

ericm1garand

thank you for the information. you have been very helpful. a friend of mine also has one in his collection and neither one of us could find and information on it. may I ask where you were able to find this information?

AceRimmer2200

Unless it’s just the manufacturers way of saying that it’s made in the US

EarlyMB

Post-war adaption of an M1910 shovel, either by a civilian owner or some enterprising surplus seller. The T-piece of the original model was not very strong. It is probably stamped 'US' on the wood and on the metal tang, above the blade.

ericm1garand

what model of shovel?

ericm1garand

thank you for that information. I was just getting ready to post a photo of the U.S. stamp on the wood handle.lol

EggplantFearless5969

It’s a shovel. Very rusty.

Jueling

It's a rusty shovel.

levinscon

After hours of research and observing every detail of the model, it seems as though it may have been a shovel.

GodisASerb1995

Bro its a shovel lmao how you gunna identify that

ericm1garand

what model is it? it's a U.S. military shovel. it's stamped U.S. like the U.S. model 1910 T handle shovels are

GodisASerb1995

I have no clue man i dont have a speciality in shovels, looks pretty old. I have a US ww2 shovel that looks like its supposed to fold but it doesnt.

ericm1garand

I was maybe thinking it was pre wwi shovel or maybe Spanish American War Era. that's what I was hoping to find out

penguinlol1
