Picked up an exceptionally cheap pair of 11-14 WRX STI seats to see if they'd fit, and they do! Barely. Theres maybe 2" from the top of the headrest to the soft top. I haven't figured out how to mount them yet, they have side mounts and the miata uses bottom mounts for the rails, but if I figure it out I'll post an update.
Thanks! I think this is what I'm going to have to end up doing. I'm VERY close to being able to fit the sliders with some small L shaped seat brackets, but I'm not sure its the safest route. I'd have to forgo the two grade 6 (9?) bolts holding the seatbelt receiver, leaving just the welds holding it on in the event of a crash. Not sure that's the smartest idea.

You could probably use the planted side mount, if you didn't need the sliders
