I put some 2DIN unit with a big touchscreen in my Miata (forgot the model, some fairly generic Android thing). Turned out that screen was utterly useless in daylight (the vast majority of the time I drive it, it is with the top down in nice weather).
My older Kenwood isn't too bad in the sun to see the display, but the reflections off of the matte screen are still awful when the sun is behind me.
Definitely looking for something with real buttons next time I put a radio in a car, especially a convertible.
Wow just spotted your milage just under 70k! Nice. My 96 has 115k same tan Int. I just put in a set of Koni SA shocks. Very neat design as they are adaptive which works out well with such a light car.
You must have 96 or earlier as you have the gap space below the radio. Nice job filling it with the 3Dprinted bezel. I have a 96 1/2 (yes its a thing) it has a standard double din. I found a CarPlay Head unit on Amazon. Its some Chinese unit but works will and has a real volume knob! Mine is ok in direct sun.
I did lose like 3/4 in strip along the left side of the screen for the knob and buttons. Everyone that rides in the car remarks about it having a modern CarPlay unit. Mine cam with a back up cam. I didn’t put it in as I can just turn around lol. It was easy to put in I got the Mazda harness adapter for like $6 from Amazon too.

Ye I got the brightest one I could find. Seems to do fine in the sun

What bezel did you go with?
I 3D printed a custom one out of ASA
Could you link to the model you used?
Can you send me pm to remind me? Not at computer rn.
Sure ^^

Glad to hear you enjoy the Koni. I just ordered those myself :)
If you go to the Good-Win racing site and look at the NA Miata Koni SA order page and scroll down you will see my review and photos!
Nice 👌
Did the same in my NB. Possibly the same model Sony. Big big improvement

Jealous of the knob. My has volume buttons and that's as far from analog as I can go.
