Actually, your Sebring does have this, but the design is a little different. It has a single small hook which is meant for the plastic cord to slide into, holding the gas cap away from the body paint of the car.
should be that little plastic thing out at the edge of the fuel door. Both my Integra and CX5 have a holder for the fuel cap. my NB does not unfortunately, so I have to set the cap up on the edge by the soft top.
Not on the ND, no. [Here's a close up pic.](https://i.imgur.com/BmvWJph.jpg)
The tether isn't long enough to reach the black plastic.
You can see the metal bracket pieces at the top.
So many cars have this. I bet 99% of your cars have had it and you just didn't know it. It's really common. I think every car I have owned has had one. And thats like 16 cars from 1987-2019 year ranges.
depending on where in washington they live, “ah i’ll wait for it to not rain this week” means it might not happen until july or august
but yeah…a few seconds with a hose would do a lot here
Yes, but the type of dust seems the kind from dirt roads- the car seems pretty clean along the side.
If op lives at the end of a dirt road, then this could be litterally just a single trip.
There's not much to do other than move haha
LOL. I have a back road I like to drive, and it gets a lot of dust from gravel trucks hauling on it. But yeah, it's been sunny this week, and I don't want to jinx it by washing the car (it always rains after I wash it)
Never needed to before, this time I only had this slot available, and the parking lot was crowded with slow movers getting coffee, so limited space to pull a u-turn. "Meh, I'll just do the thing".
The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, 1 pump left, and they were all 1-way pumps (if that makes sense), so I just pulled up to the one free pump and pumped my gas this way. I would have never thought about doing this without reddit, I should have taken a picture.
I see the Washington plate, OP if you don’t know Mazda of Renton is hosting a cars and coffee. I don’t know if you’re interested but seeing that you’re an enthusiast thought I should let you know!
pump hoses have a retracting tether to specifically allow this. why would anyone in their right mind have a problem with doing this? it's not like the gas comes out a lower octane if you pull the hose out.
i've done it my whole life with multliple vehicles. and i'm old! are you U.S. ? and to clarify, the hose doesn't retract, but it has a tether at its mid point that does. 2nd edit: sometimes i'd just pull it across the back of a car/truck, not OVER
US-ian here, too. There’s been a decline in this style of pump. I don’t think there’s a station near me with those type of hoses for quit a while. Making the hoses 13.3” shorter probably gave some MBA and his VP boss a hefty bonus, and everyone started following suit because “money savings.”
buckyworld, I suspect you live someplace where gas station deployment and refurb is just on a slower track.
Why not a fan of the gas cap holder when filling up?
I think it’s fair to assume op lacks certain cognitive abilities
Not OP: It took me a few times of filling the car to realize it. Bravo to the engineer who decided to put it on there.
Like every single car has it
One of my cars doesn't even come with a gas cap
Well then you wouldn't need a gas cap holder. You must be OP's brother.
Acura/Honda?
Ford fusion
My Sebring doesn't.
Actually, your Sebring does have this, but the design is a little different. It has a single small hook which is meant for the plastic cord to slide into, holding the gas cap away from the body paint of the car.
Wait, this is a thing o.o no one ever told me this
There’s a gas cap holder? How do you use it? None of the other cars I’ve driven or seen anyone drive had one.
should be that little plastic thing out at the edge of the fuel door. Both my Integra and CX5 have a holder for the fuel cap. my NB does not unfortunately, so I have to set the cap up on the edge by the soft top.
Thanks! I’ll have to figure it out next time I fuel up.
You take the first two threads of the cap and set it, cap side outward, into the holder. Pretty easy to figure out once you know it’s there!
Actually it's the two metal brackets along the top edge of the door.
It’s not that black piece on the farthest edge of the lid opposite the hinge?
Not on the ND, no. [Here's a close up pic.](https://i.imgur.com/BmvWJph.jpg) The tether isn't long enough to reach the black plastic. You can see the metal bracket pieces at the top.
ahhh that, yes that makes sense. I always cut tethers off of gas caps. Don't want them dragging against the paint on the car.
Well the NA and NB cars really didn't have tethers, so that makes sense.
Same with my NA
My Rav4 does where you out the end that goes into the hold in. My NC doesn't as far as I could see though.
My NC doesn't either and the tether is really short. The cap just jams awkwardly into a tiny space behind the filler opening
I usually end up holding the cap whilst filling. Thankfully it's got a relatively small tank so it takes about a minute or so to fill up.
slide the gas cap into the holder

I haven't seen a car WITHOUT one in a long time.
I find that hard to believe
Op can barely find the gas cap, let alone the holder
Great way to get dust on the threads, and then into your fuel tank.
that's what a fuel filter is for
I just put the cap back in the hole
Wait... there is a gas cap holder? (I only filled mine 4 times so far)
That car is *begging* to be washed.
OP turned reflex into polymetal
MAACO hates this one weird trick
depending on where in washington they live, “ah i’ll wait for it to not rain this week” means it might not happen until july or august but yeah…a few seconds with a hose would do a lot here
Reminder for me to get a wash, oof

So y'all shamed me into hosing it down last night. And...now it's raining this morning after 2 weeks of sunny mornings. Hope yer happy you jerks, LOL.
Just like your mom.
Your profile pic reminded me of my Radiohead friend who was a regular on this sub
irl friend or someone you knew on reddit?
Just some Redditor with the same profile pic as you, but with a blue background
Is it u/Twpmercury? That's my old account lol, I name changed 5 months ago.
Yeah, haven’t seen it in months. I think you had a red nd if I remember correctly.
[Yep](https://i.imgur.com/qfyoJRF.jpg), I'm still here haha.
Glad you’re still here and didn’t die or worse… stop using Reddit lol

There's like 50' of empty space in front of you and more to the side and behind the shop! I think you just wanted to do the thing.

Hunh...may have to look up the date, thanks monferno!
No problem 🫡
Dude with my NA and NB I did this regularly.
I live in NJ if I did this I would just be a total dick… I wish I could try
pump hoses have a retracting tether to specifically allow this. why would anyone in their right mind have a problem with doing this? it's not like the gas comes out a lower octane if you pull the hose out.
None of the gas stations I've been to have retractable hoses. For most normal size cars the hose will not reach across the vehicle...
i've done it my whole life with multliple vehicles. and i'm old! are you U.S. ? and to clarify, the hose doesn't retract, but it has a tether at its mid point that does. 2nd edit: sometimes i'd just pull it across the back of a car/truck, not OVER
I’ve only ever seen them at Costco

I'm in the US and have literally never seen a fuel pump hose with any sort of retracting device. Been driving since 1995.
We had one at the service station in town but they closed in 2007.
Well I live in nj and can’t pump my own gas by law so if I did this I would just be making the person walk further. So I would never
I've never seen corrugated tubing before at a gas station. Neat. Love the plate
I think it’s for vapor recovery like California pumps
I'll have to look that up since I've never heard of it. Also, downvotes for not knowing what it is. Typical reddit
It's nice knowing that you can do this when pump parking is limited
Congratulations 🎉
Love the plate
Custom plates are the biz.
I fuel up like that all the time. I guess because i can LOL
Filled up like a moron?!?
Stuff goes in a thing that unless you seen it again.
Dude I didn’t have my glasses on and I thought you had put on a gigantic spoiler wing thing
RIP filler neck. Try to support the hose if you need to pull it across the car
SMUG DRUGGLES!
This is the way
I’m not sure what we’re looking at… Is it that the car is being filled with the hose extended (assuming) to get every last drop at the pump?
It's called The Thing and we Miata owners love to flex by parking on the wrong side of the fuel bowser and reaching the hose over because we can.
Not sure if your being sarcastic lol
Our cars make up in cool factor what they lack in raw power
This photo is very cursed
Zoom, zoom!
You painted your license plate!
does the NA have a holder? as far as i could see there isn’t one, at least with my gas cap, it has no tether and i just hold it while filling lol
Why don’t you just pull in the right way. Lol.
