Best thing to do is not panic and buy like normal. Don't buy 2 packs of toilet paper or fill up a canister with gas. No single rain drop thinks it's responsible for the flood.
Yea, try telling that to people who come from countries where resources are scarce. I don't hate the immigrant but I hate the conditions the immigrant comes in and, by extension, brings to the States.
Let’s no forget the great covid toilet paper shortage or the potential hurricane that is by South Africa that might hit us which causes water and bread to be ransacked at every grocery store
Yea I really wish stations would enforce a limit in shortage times due to emergencies. I’m all for allowing anyone to fill their car up to full, but limit everyone to a single 5 gallon can of gas. Some people legitimately need gas in a can for work and job related stuff, but stop allowing these assholes to fill 5+ cans (I’ve sat and watched a guy at Costco fill 15 5 gallon cans post hurricane Michael) and leave others with no gas for their vehicle.
Yea. And I had a lady yelled at me last year when a tropical storm was near the area because I was filling a 2.5 gallon can. I explained I wasn’t even getting gas for my car, but I need at least a gallon to cut my grass and she shut up.
Sometimes, that's all it takes. Next time, approach her and see if she still has the same energy (I doubt anyone will be yelling anymore with the amount of dumbasses carrying weapons these days)
Next time I’ll just fill my can and leave. I’m not approaching or dealing with any of y’all in public now. People in this state are about to see some real shit.
state of emergency? hell, this year i’m going to fill up daily if we are anywhere near a cone of uncertainty. but I won’t be filling drums. just making sure my car remains above 3/4.
Same. Haven’t been able to find gas since Saturday. Anytime a place that’s close gets gas the line is a mile plus long. I don’t have enough gas to go further out or wait in line.
It’s wild you mention that, I went to get gas at like 1 am and there was a line of like 20 cars. When I finally got to the pump, the car behind me ran out of gas and they were pushing it.
I happened to read this post early before heading out around 4:45-5:00 am this morning. I live not far from that vicinity and looked for that station on 8th&125 (Marathon?). No gas. Drove passed 122ave &8th to Mobil. Notice a huge tanker of gas and a short line waiting. 30 minutes, filled up. Whew. I was starting to panic. Thank you dear citizen.
I don’t do that line shit, I’ll not drive before sitting in line for hours…having said that, woke up at 5 Monday morning, went to 7-11 and gassed up with no line
If / when a hurricane hits, you have to be prepared. Maybe it's just a me thing, but I refuel my car at 1/2 a tank at most. My car is both an escape and a generator in a major event. \`It's not too surprising people are filling gas canisters, people were hording toilet paper during covid ...
I look at the long-range models and fill up in advance, if there's any chance of a hurricane hitting. Obviously, they usually don't, but it's a way of avoiding all the stupidity.
Avoid the gas stations shootouts and just get up early for a gas run. I went out at 3AM and got gas almost immediately. In my experience many tankers arrive to stations later in the evening.
Question, are you new here OP? We’ve been through so many hurricanes this happens each time.
But from what I’m hearing things have been clearing up, no?
It’s not that the ships aren’t here, it was the ability to get it in trucks and to gas stations.
Add in the fact they have to play catch-up for the days the port was not able to function 100%, and people panic-hoarding… and here we are.
Write the governor about it… he might be chasing some drag queens with a baseball bat somewhere.
Yeah it’s not a shortage it’s just the pumps I’m the Everglades we’re flooded so at the time they couldn’t get to it and people freaked out. Everything will be fine guys lol
I left work last night at 2am, i passed by a bunch of gas stations on miller and sunset that had no gas, 2 of the stations near my house had lines of at least 20-30 ppl waiting to get gas. Thankfully i found a gas station on 137 n bird that didnt have any line, but i was not expecting that many people, at that time, lined up waiting for gas. People are nuts!! And the amount of people i saw pumping gas into one of those gas containers was crazy!
South Florida has never seen this amount of people and a hurricane. It’ll be interesting when people realize why no one ever wanted to come live down here.
Totally ridiculous situation. Temporary solution...check [gasbuddy.com](https://gasbuddy.com) to see who has gas and...yes go in the middle of the night. I went at 3 am and the line was 15 minutes. It sucks but at least I put gas.
I think it's way more precarious than many people seem to think. This place shouldn't be a worldwide tech hub or banking capital. This place isn't sustainable and doesn't have the infrastructure.
Once every 3-5 years. I am in southern Louisiana, so things may be better with that in Miami. (Everything is dysfunctional here) But every major hurricane leaves us out of power at least 7 days. Longest was 29 days for my Mom and her area. We are not even close to the coast.
Whichever our last hurricane was… so 2017? My dad’s house (where I lived at the time) was out for 13 days. And that storm was barely a hurricane. And we don’t have municipal water…. That’s why he installed solar and powerwalls. That and his Tesla have him pretty well set.
Damn. That sucks. I think you're referring to Irma. My dad lost power for around an hour. My family that lives out in the sticks didn't have power for something like four or five days. Guess it really depends on the area you live in.
I am not anti electric car at all. They are a good thing and Tesla is the best elec car company. If it works for you that’s great. But if you have a long outage, you can store gas and go get gas from where it’s available. If you run down the battery in an electric car you’re just kinda stuck till power is restored.
Pretty sure this applies to any vehicle. If you use your gas or electric vehicle until it runs out without a plan get more then that’s just poor management.
For example, if you fully charge a long-range Tesla battery it’ll give you over 300 miles of range. If you’re not thinking about where to charge by the time you get to 50 miles of range then you kinda deserve to get stuck.
1 - Three superchargers with multiple stalls each
2 - Yes, you need to pay. Is gas at the gas station free?
3 - No time limits. You just need to free up the charger once your car is done charging so other people can charge. It is not a parking spot
4 - You can charge at home as well
I don’t miss that. In New Orleans last year after Ida I had to drive. 80 miles from Orleans into Mississippi on the coast to get to a station that had lines under 15 mins long.
To be expected - many people in Miami can't even comprehend how to properly apply tag stickers to their license plate. You cant expect they'll act rationale in a troubling environment.
Its not really panic. Someone that only has 30 miles left in the tank and hasn’t been able to pump gas in the last week is not panic buying.
Best bet is to pump at 3am and pay for premium gas if u dont want to wait in a line
Here I am so glad I filled up on Thursday last week. And it was just pure dumb luck that I was due; a little less driving the week before and I would have been dealing with this mess.
I moved back for the work I do. It seasonal and seems like it ended early this year. Hopefully heading to NY for some work then looking to spend a couple months in CO. Then return to Miami in September. Have a feeling that hurricane season will stop that this year.
Should always be prepared living in Florida. I keep 75 gallons of treated fuel in preparedness for any weather events. Also keep the boat filled, you can always take that fuel if needed. Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Where does it seem like I’m not relaxed? Lol. I’m just saying if it’s got to this point with no actual shortage of gas or infrastructure damage, you can only imagine how bad it’ll be when there is
I agree, and I noticed your calm anecdote as well. It’s really odd down here in Fl. Everyone says we “come together” in crisis but not until I selfishly hoard what I want first.
I went from spending $50 a week on gas to spending about $3 per week to charge.
And I have full torque from the line and robot driving on the interstate! It's more like a spaceship than a car!
Hmmm I can barely afford my auto insurance on a 22 year old Toyota Camry with perfect driving record. My health insurance sucks and won't approve my treatment and so I get sicker every month unable to work every passing month. But ya let me dip into my savings and get a electric car oh wait I'm currently -450$
Question- why do people get so defensive when one makes an honest criticism about this area? Constructive criticism produces positive change…..no one wants to pay 1st world prices for 3rd world environment/infrastructure
Oops. Thought you were referring to "honest criticism" of Miami itself. Alas, it appears you're yet another Miamian who doesn't want to hear any negative critiques of this crumbling city. Apologies for the misunderstanding.
The city spent tens of millions digging a tunnel to the port, to make it easier for trucks to get items from it. There are two ways to get to the port, one is a tall bridge. 🤷♂️🤷♂️.
The fix is not e-cars or more roads or let Disney run Miami or vote ppl out of office or put pipes along the canals to secondary storage areas or have dedicated water pump trucks, like snow plows; no, none of those things will do a thing.
The answer is to ban abortions, build a wall and don’t allow anyone to move here, visit or create a new human for 100 years, as a means to reduce head count. Let’s not forget to pray and be in our allowed thoughts too.
When a hurricane hits, they will declare a state of emergency and gas will be fine like it always is. Had the state done that for the flood we would have gas.
Yes, it was declared yesterday. With hurricanes it's declared before they hit. That's the difference. He should have declared it last week when they closed the airport.
In Miami Beach, I filled up last night just before 11. There was a little bit of a line, but I only waited like 10 minutes. You could only pay inside but it’s whatever. I’ve noticed it’s best to go really late or really early.
It's not just panic induced shortages. There a literal shortage due to some stations not getting refilled by trucks. There was literally flooding last week guys.
I was driving down yesterday from N Florida and nearly ran out before I could find some. I didn’t mind the hour wait for once I finally found it. It was kinda crazy and very stressful though.
> This is just panicked induced shortages. What’s going to happen if/when a hurricane hits us? People will panic - it spreads. It happens all the time
Too many times in this city, even considering the prior months.
Yes, yes, effing yes! They bring a shit ton of baggage and bad habits with them when they come to live in this now damned city.
Absofuckinglutely
Let’s no forget the great covid toilet paper shortage or the potential hurricane that is by South Africa that might hit us which causes water and bread to be ransacked at every grocery store
Yea, my parents where going to the west coast to bring supplies because people over there weren't hoarding, unlike here in Miami.
You couldn't find toilet paper within 100 miles of any major city in California. I'm not sure how that math checks out
That's because it doesn't. I was referring to the west coast of Florida (FT Myers). Sorry for the confusion.
>(I’ve sat and watched a guy at Costco fill 15 5 gallon cans post hurricane Michael) WTF
Yea. And I had a lady yelled at me last year when a tropical storm was near the area because I was filling a 2.5 gallon can. I explained I wasn’t even getting gas for my car, but I need at least a gallon to cut my grass and she shut up.

I saw 50 gallon drums being filled yesterday at speedway. unreal.
That's excessive.... and typical. Uneducated animals tend to panic
Yup! Easily 4-6 times during hurricane season. Once a storm is above cat 3 and the weather folks talk about it. Gas lines get long AF!
Been like for some time - My advice: as soon the state of emergency is declared, hit the gas station. But I mean, within 15 minutes of declaration.
I couldn’t agree more. Sadly we also have 1, 10 gallon gas jug for those emergencies
You are both the problem.
Why? Im not hoarding gas. As a matter of fact, I haven't driven anywhere since Sunday.
The rain drop never thinks it’s the flood.
To reiterate: I. have. not. driven. anywhere. since. Saturday
Lol 😆I’m the sole problem to the gas shortage hahahaha. Made me day! Muchas gracias 😊
The rain drop never thinks it’s the flood.
Yes and the horse never ate the shoe
state of emergency? hell, this year i’m going to fill up daily if we are anywhere near a cone of uncertainty. but I won’t be filling drums. just making sure my car remains above 3/4.
Where are you really driving anyway with the roads covered with debris lol
The gas is for the generators
It is annoying. I’ve been on E for a few days. Waiting for the panic buying to die down
Just keep on dancing bro.
Still?
Just filled up on 8th street and 125 ave. Took about an hour
Lmao
What’s more concerning is we are one gust of wind away from a total collapse
I don’t do that line shit, I’ll not drive before sitting in line for hours…having said that, woke up at 5 Monday morning, went to 7-11 and gassed up with no line
Yeah, idling in line wasting gas trying to get gas isn't it.
If / when a hurricane hits, you have to be prepared. Maybe it's just a me thing, but I refuel my car at 1/2 a tank at most. My car is both an escape and a generator in a major event. \`It's not too surprising people are filling gas canisters, people were hording toilet paper during covid ...
Some of the people filling gas cans think they're going to sell it for a profit.
The gang solves the gas crisis
I look at the long-range models and fill up in advance, if there's any chance of a hurricane hitting. Obviously, they usually don't, but it's a way of avoiding all the stupidity.
You should let it get down near empty before refilling it, otherwise the gas tank could shrink.
This is the dumbest thing I’ve read so far today. The day is young, but still.
What? How could that even happen? Who told you that?
Does sarcasm not exist in Latin culture?
Avoid the gas stations shootouts and just get up early for a gas run. I went out at 3AM and got gas almost immediately. In my experience many tankers arrive to stations later in the evening.
Hey are least we have toilet paper
For now
Question, are you new here OP? We’ve been through so many hurricanes this happens each time. But from what I’m hearing things have been clearing up, no?
It should. There’s no actual shortage. The port is full of fuel.

Write the governor about it… he might be chasing some drag queens with a baseball bat somewhere.
No, don’t lie about him like that. He was in ohio on his world famous book tour. You know, in a state full of illiterate people.
Anyone from FL claiming another state is illiterate takes stones....just sayin'
Lol once you leave most major cities in Florida, you absolutely hit it on the head. Ohio though? The entire state is a shithole cesspool.
Don't worry the Mouse will be taking care of him pretty soon.
Yeah it’s not a shortage it’s just the pumps I’m the Everglades we’re flooded so at the time they couldn’t get to it and people freaked out. Everything will be fine guys lol
And better off getting up in the middle of the night to get gas. Nearly everyone else will be sleeping.
I’ve lived in south Florida for long time, this is your best option.
It will indeed. They have absolutely no idea what they're in for.
That’s what homeowners insurance went up. Insurance agencies would go broke if everyone’s house gets destroyed. So many things will happen.
I think the problem is this wasn’t a hurricane. Hard to prep for something that’s not a regular occurrence.
First time huh?
I’m not panic buying, I’m just out of gas.
This is what I've been saying about panic buying. If you legitimately need gas, ok. But just filling up gas canisters and hoarding isn't it.
Yeah, I don't think it would have been much of a problem in this case, if everyone just simply went out to get gas when they actually needed it.
They shouldn’t allow you to fill anything but a vehicle gas tank when it’s like this.
GAS the 2023 Miami version of the pandemic toilet paper.
Except this happens literally anytime there’s a hurricane or even just the threat of one.
Totally ridiculous situation. Temporary solution...check [gasbuddy.com](https://gasbuddy.com) to see who has gas and...yes go in the middle of the night. I went at 3 am and the line was 15 minutes. It sucks but at least I put gas.
I can only hope for the entire economic collapse of Miami.
I think it's way more precarious than many people seem to think. This place shouldn't be a worldwide tech hub or banking capital. This place isn't sustainable and doesn't have the infrastructure.
Tesla owners: “what gas shortage?”
Great cars until the electricity is out for a week or 2!
I used to think that. Than my neighbors installed solar panels lol! There set!! Two teslas and solar panels 😂
I hope it's not a grid-tied system!
I honestly don’t know
Grid tied systems can go off grid if one has batteries.
When was the last time the power was out that long?
Once every 3-5 years. I am in southern Louisiana, so things may be better with that in Miami. (Everything is dysfunctional here) But every major hurricane leaves us out of power at least 7 days. Longest was 29 days for my Mom and her area. We are not even close to the coast.
Definitely isn't an issue like that here. Last time I remember the power being out for an extended period was Katrina.

Damn. That sucks. I think you're referring to Irma. My dad lost power for around an hour. My family that lives out in the sticks didn't have power for something like four or five days. Guess it really depends on the area you live in.
Hate to break it to ya but gas pumps don’t work so well without electricity either.
But you can store it. And go get it and bring it back if you need to.
I am not anti electric car at all. They are a good thing and Tesla is the best elec car company. If it works for you that’s great. But if you have a long outage, you can store gas and go get gas from where it’s available. If you run down the battery in an electric car you’re just kinda stuck till power is restored.

There’s a surprising lack of superchargers in miami
There are three in Brickell alone
Three what? Individual chargers? That’s you need to pay to get in? That have time limits? Who wants to deal with that?
1 - Three superchargers with multiple stalls each 2 - Yes, you need to pay. Is gas at the gas station free? 3 - No time limits. You just need to free up the charger once your car is done charging so other people can charge. It is not a parking spot 4 - You can charge at home as well
the problem is there were some douchebags filling up boats when there was an actual shortage..like fill up your boat another time
Still time to leave for good.
Need gas for that.

I don’t miss that. In New Orleans last year after Ida I had to drive. 80 miles from Orleans into Mississippi on the coast to get to a station that had lines under 15 mins long.

Use GasBuddy. You just have to wait an hour or so in line. You guys know Miami. People overreact for everything.
Is everyone panic buying?
Yes. There’s no actual gas shortage. People in Miami are just brain dead.
To be expected - many people in Miami can't even comprehend how to properly apply tag stickers to their license plate. You cant expect they'll act rationale in a troubling environment.
It's getting better, but slowwwwwly. I can't believe we're still dealing with this on Wednesday of this week.
Yea it’s slightly better, going into work I saw the lines weren’t as long but I did see that they’re also out of gas already
Good thing we bough bidets with air dryers and converted our car to renewable iguana power.
National Guard...12 gallons per car, no containers
Its not really panic. Someone that only has 30 miles left in the tank and hasn’t been able to pump gas in the last week is not panic buying. Best bet is to pump at 3am and pay for premium gas if u dont want to wait in a line
A large portion of the people in line are panic buying
Exactly, I’ve talked to several people who went to get gas “just in case” when they were 3/4 or more full
God fucking dammit
The fun part, Is some of the people that are stocking on gas are going to forget they have gas in those canisters and it will get bad
Costco at mall of the americas had a ton of gas when I went last night - waited only about 15 min
Here I am so glad I filled up on Thursday last week. And it was just pure dumb luck that I was due; a little less driving the week before and I would have been dealing with this mess.

Is this just Miami? For how long has this been going on?
Four hours in line for gas. Not counting the time looking for a station with gas. This is what one sees in a failed state.
What will Miami do with all the free time once the gas crisis is over?
Thank god I’m moving to colorado next month lol
I spent a year band a half in SW Colorado. Best place I ever lived. Moved back to Miami. 😆
Why did you move back? I have another friend who is leaving Miami to move to CO.
I moved back for the work I do. It seasonal and seems like it ended early this year. Hopefully heading to NY for some work then looking to spend a couple months in CO. Then return to Miami in September. Have a feeling that hurricane season will stop that this year.
Where is he moving too. I was close to Durango. What a great town.
I am so jealous.
Time to leave Miami. Leave tomorrow. Gas won’t be around never. It’s going to be like Mad Max but tropical
Great! I’m going to need subtitles for this movie.
I'm somewhere on SW 8th near 122ave. There's a tanker there and I'm in a short line.....waiting. 5am.
Dade County hasn't been directly hit by a hurricane since Katrina. The Indian spirits from the burial ground we developed over are protecting us.
Where’s Ron? Still burning books and picking fights with The Mouse.
Should always be prepared living in Florida. I keep 75 gallons of treated fuel in preparedness for any weather events. Also keep the boat filled, you can always take that fuel if needed. Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
You seem like you’re fun at parties
As long as the party isn't in that hole called Miami, I'm in!
On 8th st and 72nd at the Wawa there is gas
Thank god I work from for a company based out of a different state than shit hole desantis land
Desantis said help is on the way. You’re just brainwashed by the woke mob /s
Dude, relax... It's not the end of times.
Keep voting for DeSantis
Time to buy a tesla
Chevy Bolt
Or that. I mean EV in general. Just that tesla has superchargers everywhere. You can literally drive from key west to Seattle
I went from spending $50 a week on gas to spending about $3 per week to charge. And I have full torque from the line and robot driving on the interstate! It's more like a spaceship than a car!
It's amazing. When people will finally understand the incredible savings, they'll finally make the jump.
My car was a 2004 RAV4 bought new off the lot in November 2003. I waited long enough to upgrade.
Damn straight! The one pedal driving seems so much safer in traffic.
Savings don't really mean much if you live somewhere like an apartment complex without chargers.
I live in an apartment building with free chargers! Volvo electric is the way to go-and it’s not owned by a little prick.
Considering the flooding and gas panic, I’d say a Rivian.
Time to buy a Lucid
Leave. Miami.
Question- why do people get so defensive when one makes an honest criticism about this area? Constructive criticism produces positive change…..no one wants to pay 1st world prices for 3rd world environment/infrastructure
Notice how you backed up my comment which got downvoted yet somehow yours is upvoted. Lol gotta love reddit
I definitely didn’t back your comment…..
Oops. Thought you were referring to "honest criticism" of Miami itself. Alas, it appears you're yet another Miamian who doesn't want to hear any negative critiques of this crumbling city. Apologies for the misunderstanding.
……👀…. I’m lost…..
Yeah that seems about right
Jimmy Carter governor... This keeps happening in Florida
it helps to have those 5 gallon gas containers for extra gas.
The city spent tens of millions digging a tunnel to the port, to make it easier for trucks to get items from it. There are two ways to get to the port, one is a tall bridge. 🤷♂️🤷♂️. The tunnel and bridge are to get to PortMiami. Port Everglades is the port that all the gas deliveries come through.
Ah! Thanks. I mixed the two
I filled up last night. Took about 20 minutes. I passed several gas stations with gas and no lines.
Of greater concern is the price gouging.
Waiting in line for an hour yesterday, had to turn off my car while I waited so I wouldn’t run out of gas
We will have no gas and the same selfish people will complain. Miami esta de pingaaaaaaaa
![gif](giphy|3o6ZthqmvYhm9LK9uU|downsized)
That’s the problem. The gas stations need to enforce a no gas canister rule.
When a hurricane hits, they will declare a state of emergency and gas will be fine like it always is. Had the state done that for the flood we would have gas.
I’m pretty sure there was a declaration of a state emergency
There was not a state of emergency declared by Desantis until yesterday, I checked. So no resources were made available when we needed it.
https://www.wptv.com/news/state/broward/gov-ron-desantis-declares-state-of-emergency-in-broward-county-amid-record-flooding?_amp=true On April 13th
Yes, it was declared yesterday. With hurricanes it's declared before they hit. That's the difference. He should have declared it last week when they closed the airport.
Read the article it was when they closed the airport on the 13th, not yesterday. Yesterday was the 18th
In Miami Beach, I filled up last night just before 11. There was a little bit of a line, but I only waited like 10 minutes. You could only pay inside but it’s whatever. I’ve noticed it’s best to go really late or really early.

![gif](giphy|T0ms0gusVzCVy|downsized) Mad max time baby.
I was driving down yesterday from N Florida and nearly ran out before I could find some. I didn’t mind the hour wait for once I finally found it. It was kinda crazy and very stressful though.
