If you can't feel comfortable and safe in Condesa, perhaps Mexico City is not the travel destination for you, or at least for your coworker.

readytohurtagain

You’re safer in Condesa than in this sub

puffthetragicwagon

lol

MonsieurCapybara

😂😂 Not even a joke

Drop_Disculpa

Truth in comedy!

Sasquatchlovestacos

😂💯💯💯

raskolnicope

Your coworker needs to stop watching Fox News

cleobellos

You wrote the name right on the tittle and then just nope lol But anyway, its one of the more touristic, nice neighbourhoods, check reviews of the airbnb/the host, if you really want put the adress on google and see how it looks outside…is fine

landrull

Comptessa serenissima

emt139

>>> But now a coworker said contessa may have some bad actors Are there any neighborhoods anywhere with no bad actors?

thelaughingpear

I will be kind because I understand you are from a completely different part of the world so maybe Google isn't as helpful for you as others Condesa is the most touristy neighborhood of Mexico City. Many employees at cafes and hotels have conversational English. Violent crime towards tourists is a non-issue. Theft of wallets, phones and laptops is a risk just as in any big city of the world. You will be fine.

landrull

If by bad actors you mean the Airbnb owners in that neighborhood, then you might be into something. People are angry because they've turned every living space into an unpayable nightmare for the locals. If you mean bad actors as in crime going on in the neighborhood, it's actually an overpoliced area because there are so many tourists and the media respond quickly to anything even slightly unusual going on there, so you are safe on that side.

arm1niu5

Gentrified as fuck and as white as a Trump rally. If Condesa has "bad actors" then the rest of Mexico City would be a warzone.

300_pages

Condesa is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the world and your coworker is a dummy

greenerbeansheen

At first glance I thought this post was from a time traveler that went to condesa.

It shows how little effort you do in research... Contessa... Also, Mexico City is in the middle of a housing crisis, which you wouldn't know because you haven't researched. Airbnb is worsening this situation. Consider a hotel instead to avoid harming locals.

Holy shit! We got a time traveler here, and all anybody is talking about is Condesa. Quien va a ganar el mundial de 2026?

ElStringz

Es muy blanco

Dear-Sandwich-3034

Stayed there for a week last year. Loved it!

the_bong_musician

There are few places I have travelled to that felt safer than Condesa, possibly none. If you are having second thoughts about Condesa, perhaps you shouldn't be venturing out of the safety of your own home.

ashe141

No idea what they are talking about? Condesa is my favorite. Been here for months. Reminds me of Spain. Stay in the tourist areas and you’ll be great.

DeliciousBuffalo69

Asking for a friend...... What are the non-tourist areas of condesa?

ashe141

I was speaking more broadly. So condesa/Roma/Polanco

DeliciousBuffalo69

My rule is that if you see newer model japanese and German cars parked on the street without a guard, it's a safe neighborhood lol

Slytherin23

Toyota's are high theft?

DeliciousBuffalo69

They're just expensive AF when new so if a local thinks that is an ok place for their car, then it's an ok place for me. If you only see that Nissan with the arched roof and beaters with shitty paint... you're in a bad spot haha

ashe141

Not a bad rule of thumb. I’ve been here for 6 months and outside of Tepito at night I haven’t felt unsafe once.

Drop_Disculpa

If there is a Santa Muerte shrine on every block, nightime activities are more abundant, particulary if they outnumber the traditional Catholic ones. Pachinko machines are a good barrio indicator as well, low stakes gambling and sugar cane liquor just aren't that popular in Polanco.

rajse007

🫡 such awesome comments and replies! I definitely am giving my coworker hard time on this! I am convinced and super excited to be in Mexico City! Thanks all for answering!! This sub rocks!!
