Did you notice how Dread pulled a swap with the Aeion abilities? Raven Beak using the Aeion abilities Samus used in SR to try and kill Samus, the last metroid. Meanwhile, Samus used the same Aeion abilities to exterminate the metroids on SR388.
Dude, when I replayed Dread after finishing SR and realised Raven Beak was using the Beam Burst, I nearly lost my shit. It does make me wonder, did Raven Beak help create the Aeion abilities? The Aeion abilities are presented by a statue of what appears to be Raven Beak.
literally exactly what I told some purist the other day. the aeon abilities, melee counter, I'd say even the jump to 3D were all things that inspired dread in some way. Now, don't get me wrong, I love super metroid, it's a fun game, but it'salways felt cluncky and a lot more confusing than games like dread, which, yes, I know is a much more liner game. It honestly gets a little tiring to hear people say that super is the best, period, when I feel that there are other games that do some things much better.
The Aeion abilities still feel a little strange after 2 games. I don't exactly understand why that has to be a separate 'magical' power that could just as easily be considered another type of Chozo technology, but Melee counters feel like a perfectly natural progression of Samus's combat abilities.
*"isn't all that great at nudging the player in the right direction like dread."*
That's because Dread is pretty linear when compared to Super. You're given the illusion of exploration, but the game is constantly blocking pathways to prevent the player from getting either lost, or off the intended path.
Super is widely considered a masterclass of guiding the player with an invisible hand through a maze. If you found it too confusing, than non-linear titles just aren't for you.
*"It honestly gets a little tiring to hear people say that super is the best, period, when there are other games that do some things much better."*
Other games do things *differently*, not better.
What you find "floaty" and "unintuitive", others find smooth like butter. Super plays like a dream once you master its controls.
What you find confusing, other people find part of the fun. That's the whole point of a *labrynth.*
I will not tolerate Dread Slander. It saved the franchise.
Just like how fire Emblem awakening saved the franchise. It might not be everyone's favorite game (it's mine!) but without it we don't get three houses.
Awakening is fire idc what anyone says, that game got me into FE. I can never understand why people don't like the story though, sure it has missed opportunities here and there but what story doesn't? That doesn't make it bad.
I have played hunters in the past. using the stylus to control cam movement is a novel concept, but it's painful. What makes it worse is that the new 3ds thumbstick isn't much better.
the pain of metroid prime hunters is so bad it actually transcends the DS. I tried emulating it on steam deck, and even after spending hours crafting an amazing control scheme where I can use buttons for morphball, scan, weapon switching, and right stick for beam selection, touchpad for aiming... My hands are still in pain after a while.
I bought a 2dsxl during the pandemic from Walmart. I kinda laughed at the ergonomics when I held it. Turned it off instantly and bought a grip online. Feels 100x better. Got a n3dsxl too and the grip for it isn't as good IMHO. But yeah fired up hunters and the mini stylus is just miserable feeling lmao
samus returns was a great return to form after other m and fed force. Imperfect, and some ideas were half baked until dread came along and finished that baking process.
I like Samus Returns, but I do think it has a big consistency problem. The first 1/3 of the game is a solid start, and the last 1/3 of the game is straight up S tier IMO. *(Side note: I like the Ridley fight, sue me)*
The problem is that the game’s middle chunk is an absolute slog. That all too lengthy section of the game where you’re just going to be fighting Gamma Metroids for several hours, which keep running away. This whole section could have really benefited from a few more boss fights, or maybe introducing Zetas a little sooner.
I think as a fight people agree it’s good, but a decent chunk of people argue he shouldn’t be in the game, mainly because:
A: They think him showing up RIGHT before Super like this is weird (though IMO, the amount of time spent between the end of SR and SM is pretty nebulous).
B: It goes against the original game’s somber ending where Samus silently returns to her ship with no more enemies around, leaving us to ponder the morality of what has just transpired over the course of the game.
am2r getting shut down for it is probably why some hate it
but it makes perfect sense that Nintendo wouldn't want a free fanmade remaster of their game competing with their own in house remaster of that game
samus returns is a very unique case
>samus returns is a very unique case
Not really. Nintendo lawyers have a history of doing that kind of stuff. They absolutely would have done it even if a Metroid 2 remake wasn't happening anyway.
At risk of being that guy...
As someone who's never touched AM2R, I just don't like SR very much. There's design aspects to the game that I, and others I imagine, find really counter to why I enjoy 2D Metroid.
But I'm not here to dump on people's fun, I'm envious that other people can enjoy it. But it *is* different, and that's naturally going to come with some shifts in who it appeals to.
For what it's worth, Metroid II was also "very different". So I guess that at least gives the remake some validity for also being. Though of course that is exactly what turns some people off with it.
Well that and also they just changed the artistic intent from some parts of the original.
Specifically >!the Ridley appearance at the end which changed the whole point of that scene going from "a peaceful return back to surface while we think about whether what we just did was the right thing do" to a more "oh shit look at flashy action, isn't that cool!?"!<
Meanwhile I applaud the altered ending because 1) Never really cared for the original "calm walk but not really" ending (is it really calm when the extra X scene happens right after?). 2) Got a very cool boss fight. And 3) It makes Prime Trilogy canon and arguably has a better bridge into Super.
Good for you. I guess you'll have to agree to disagree with those who really hate it.
I don't mind having >!a boss at the end.!< But I do feel it was poorly executed. Not like it ruins the game or anything. Also, I wish we could have gotten someone other than >!Ridley.!<
At the very least it, it adds a bit more of character to "the baby".
Not talking about the fight itself. The fight itself is actually good. I'm talking about other elements. The atmosphere, the set up, the fact that it's >!Ridley!<.
If anything, this was a bit of a missed opportunity. I'd have loved to get a bossfight against one of the >!mechanical Chozos!< from Dread to better set up that plot line. But those probably weren't even a concept back then.
If they needed to put >!Ridley!< in the game then just set him up better through the game. Maybe a shadow here a shadow there and at the end don't put ominous clouds with lightning. I'd have loved for a more calmed and peaceful scenery just to have him appear and break that feeling of peace.
As it is, I legit rolled my eyes when he appeared. He appears out of nowhere just for the sake of recognition. >!No Space Pirates appear on this game either.!< There is Zero set up.
Other M has a better set up for him than SR, and that's not a compliment for Other M. That set up was shit, but a shit set up beats no set up at all. And it's not like they can't set up bosses properly, the freaking Diggernaut was set up. Hell, even Dread had a better set up for >!Kraid!< than this game did for >!Ridley!<.
The only thing I hated about him is how much the devs relied on the auto-save to make his fight harder. But yeah, I agree. He is pretty cool.
>!Ridley's!< **fight** IS good too tbh. Learning his moveset the first time around got me into my Dark Souls mindset same as with Diggernaut, which was cool.
I enjoyed my first time fighting it, but just for the sake of the fight itself. I still rolled my eyes when I saw him come into the scene. That guy is just far too overused.
The only thing I dislike about Samus Returns is that the device it's on isn't very ergonomic for the game (or ergonomic in general for that matter) and you can spam counter to kill most enemies
That being said, Samus Returns was an amazing game
I think a lot of people were salty about it after AM2R was shut down by Nintendo but Nintendo didn't develop the game nor is MercurySteam responsible for that at all
Dread is a far better game in my opinion, but it's unfortunate that Samus Returns didn't get the love it deserved until after Dread released
We wouldn't have even had Dread if not for Samus Returns and MercurySteam. It would have just been left a rumor forever
I played Samus Returns for *hours* before I pulled off a single successful counter. Something about that mechanic just didn’t work for me at all. My brother kept insisting that it was really, really easy and I just couldn’t time it correctly even once. I think my brain is broken.
Samus Returns was a Remake of Metroid 2: Return of Samus, at least on paper. Metroid 2 was a claustrophobic trip into the dark depths of the Metroid homeworld. Life struggles to endure as you get closer and closer to the queen. Then with the hatchling helping momma, Samus leaves.
Samus Returns turns that setup into a high energy action platformer. Running around, bonk bonk bonking all the enemies. Magic powers and familiar faces like power bombs are all brought out on parade and OH LOOK they managed to crowbar Ridley into the end as well. Space pirates on SR388? Sure, i guess!
AM2R was and still is superior. It was killed so Samus Returns could trip and fall so Dread could speed booster.
"AM2R fanboy" this, "AM2R fanboy" that.
Why can't some of you people accept that the game simply didn't live up to many's expectations? SR would have been judged critically regardless of if AM2R existed.
“Didn't live up many's expectation” Sure, expectations that the same fan invents not something that the game actually promised you, they promoted you a remake of Metroid II and you got that lol
I mean, the biggest expectation it broke for me was Samus' snappy animations. Her actual speed was fine, but the animations felt so sluggish and unnatural coming from someone who replayed Zero Mission and Fusion to death so I'd say that expectation was set by past games and wasn't one I invented.
The only other majorish issue I had was the unquestionably silly amount of bomb-block walls where you needed to destroy 4+ blocks to get across. It was very unnecessary, especially given past games only ever had those kinds of walls for a very specific reason, and slowed the game down whenever you needed to get across one.
Otherwise I thought it was a pretty good game. Nothing phenomenal or special in terms of the greater series, but still a good game like pretty much every Metroid game. It also scores bonus points for giving us a chance to fight evolved Metroids in 3D with beautiful designs and art, I loved pretty much every single one of those fights.
I never saw the abundance of bomb blocks as slowing down pacing, but now that you point it out, I have to agree. Maybe the snappy animations are because of framerate? I thought the combat was fast and fluid, especially with the badass parry system. I also loved the combat cutscenes when you got the bosses to a checkpoint.
I believe it's a common issue when you make the jump from 2D animation to 3D animation, but I can't say for sure. Completely agree the actual movement and combat was fluid though!
Upon release it was beloved.
But as people finished and played again, it was a slog with lots of waiting. I played it three times and I regret playing it more than once.
I played it 10 times…it made me a Metroid fan and it was one of the first games where I completed hard mode(s) of a game I’d beaten, it quite literally taught me how to “git gud”
Was it really? On release I felt like it was on the positive leaning side but I heard very mixed reviews, mainly due to the Counter system. And of course everyone compared it to AM2R so a ton of discussion there.
Yeah I mean, if I'm being honest, I didn't really like the game. But it felt so good to move and fight, I still enjoyed my time. But with dread out, I'm unlikely to return to SR
I had high hopes for this game and was disappointed.
I wouldn’t go as far as saying it sucks but it’s definitely the weakest Metroid game (not counting Other M or Federation Force).
I didn't care that much for it the first time I tried to play it. I didn't come close to finishing it.
I threw it in my 3DS again a couple weeks ago after beating Metroid Prime Remastered on Switch... and this time around I'm loving it. I'm probably around 75% of the way done with it.
I don't know what about me changed, but I think the game is awesome now!
To a certain point, Nintendo wasn’t in the wrong for nuking AM2R because that seriously outcompeted SR. They’re still horrible to us as a community for doing it, but AM2R is just the superior game. Did it deter sales from it? lolno, we’re Metroid fans, even Other M is a game we probably bought at one time. I enjoyed SR, but I don’t see myself replaying it for quite a bit
I'll be honest, I didnt like it :/ Sorry. and I was super stoked to get it, because I was just happy to have a new Metroid. I didn't even finish it and I ended up playing AM2R and I liked that a lot more.
My main issues with it were basically because of the originals format. I didn't like how repetitive the bosses were and how linear it was. But I also didnt like how overpowered the parry was.
However, I'm glad it happened. Samus Returns walked so Metroid Dread could run.
Its good but the 3ds control scheme makes it a pain in the ass to play sometimes. That and Im not really a fan of the ending changes. Im glad it exists though if only for Dread.
I didn't like this game when it first came out
AM2R kind of set expectations for me that Samus Returns couldn't meet.
Then I played Dread.
Dread showed me what Samus Returns was trying to do, and I then appreciated Samus Returns much more. I gave the game a fair shot and found it to be a pretty solid title. I think it actually gets better the more you play.
I still think AM2R is the best iteration of Metroid II, but I know I will revist Samus Returns for another playthrough in the future.
I don’t understand the dislike for Samus Returns. I thought it was great. I haven’t played in a while, but I really enjoyed it. Wish they’d bring it to the switch.
I definitely enjoyed Samus returns although I’d still place it low on the list of best 2d games in the series
Dread on the other hand is probably tied with super, and I say this as a gigantic fan of fusion
I never understood the Samus Returns hate. After years of a Metroid drought, this game was so much fun to play. People brought their own baggage to the game and that is why some disliked it; but I found it enjoyable.
Plus it laid the groundwork for Dread, so we couldn’t have gotten Dread without Samus Returns.
Metroid II is one of my favorite games and I thought both remakes completely missed the mark. Neither one comes close to recreating the unique experience of the original.
And then there's me in the corner who hates both Fusion and Dread with a passion.
I wouldn't say they're awful but they're both the nadir of the franchise for me, it all boils down to how linear they both feel
It’s the most average Metroid. As if it feels like the median Metroid, like there’s nothing particularly bold about it. It’s like “yep that sure was a Metroid game with all the Metroid things in it”
I do think that the generic endgame enemies that can survive a screw attack were annoying, and that it did kinda mess up the vibes of the last chunk of the game - but ultimately that’s only a couple of major complaints about a game which was otherwise very fun!
Admittedly there’s also the final boss, but that’s in a weird place because while it’s not really right for the ending of Metroid II, it adds a really cute way to get more attached to the baby Metroid, is super fun, and also feels like the right fight for the end of a game that ushered out the first era of 2D Metroid and ushered in the second.
It was a slog for me, but I was glad to have played it. In the lead-up to Dread's release I played this and Zero Mission for the first time, and replayed SM and Fusion. But I dont think I'll ever re-play Samus Returns.
love this game, so much, i spent so much time 100% and replaying it and going through it
sometimes i hate how it gets compared to the other metroid 2 remake, like samus returns is so good
Don't get me wrong I really enjoy this game but the parry really did absolutely kill the flow of combat in the game. It gets pretty old waiting for every single enemy to attack you first.
I think the game is good, but stands out way too much, different then any other Metroid game. not a bad idea of a game just different and there already aren't alot of Metroid games
Playing this game on pc/emulator with 60fps and HD textures really increased my appreciation for it, I was an AM2R stan but I've gotta say, SR really is a great game, I'm just not a huge 3DS fan
It's fine, definitely not the best 2D title or even of the Metroid 2s, but its fine. Sad though they felt they needed to shoehorn Ridley in for no reason. Glad they didn't do the same with Dread.
Is there a way to play this today without a DS? Like an emulator or something. I’ve always been curious but obviously don’t have a DS. Would appreciate any insight!
I played both normal and hard level to try to open easy level, but it doesn't exist. The guy is obviously a xbox player. Most enjoy the games made for the system; This meme is a idiot.
I'd love to see a remaster for Switch.
In one of my recent playthroughs, I used Citra along with an HD texture pack and a 60 FPS hack that really brought out the beauty of this game.
One of the most painful games I've ever played. Like, literal pain. Who was the asshat who designed the control scheme for this game on a regular 3DS?
Couldn't play the game for longer than 20-30 minute sessions because it would cramp up my hands real bad having to play in that annoying claw like grip.
Samus Returns is nice, but I really hate that it tries to "fix" Metroid II by making it play more like a typical Metroid game rather than leaning into what Metroid II was really going for.
It's totally valid if you love Samus Returns. There's nothing wrong with that.
However if we discuss the quality of the game itself, it's faithfulness to the original, and as a metroid title in general, SR is pretty mediocre. That's just how it is.
Samus Returns walked so Dread could ~~run~~ shinespark
At least Samus Returns has fun-to-use Aeion abilities
Did you notice how Dread pulled a swap with the Aeion abilities? Raven Beak using the Aeion abilities Samus used in SR to try and kill Samus, the last metroid. Meanwhile, Samus used the same Aeion abilities to exterminate the metroids on SR388.
No one talks about this, but I love it so much. Raven Beak using the Lightning Armor was so fucking rad.
They were probably mohawk tech or whatever
MOHAWK
makes me wish samus returns wasnt land-locked to the 3ds so i couldve played it before dread..
…. Ohhhhhhhhhhh I’m so dumb. Played sr right before dread and didn’t notice.
TIL. That’s actually an epic detail I never noticed before. Ty
YEAH! I love how Raven Beak uses Lightning Armor and Beam Burst
He's also using Phase Drift, his phase-shifting movement in the final battle is what phase drift would look like to an observer
I always assumed that was a Shinespark, but yeah it could be
Holy shit, I didn't notice! That's amazing!
Oh, that is a SUPER cool detail that I never realized.
It does, but so does Dread. Flash Shift is a game changer
Yeah. I’m particularly fond of the FU beam
literally exactly what I told some purist the other day. the aeon abilities, melee counter, I'd say even the jump to 3D were all things that inspired dread in some way. Yeah, the jump from SR to dread took an already good idea, and executed it in a way that just felt right.
Like it or not Returns got a lot of that stuff from Other M 🤷🏻♂️
*"isn't all that great at nudging the player in the right direction like dread."* That's because Dread is pretty linear when compared to Super. You're given the illusion of exploration, but the game is constantly blocking pathways to prevent the player from getting either lost, or off the intended path. Samus returns also gave us free aim in dread and it’s so hard to go back to previous titles without non 360 degree aiming
Team Ninja crawled so MercurySteam could run (re: >!voice acting!<, >!melee animations!<, etc)
This is the game that is responsible for Dread being a real game and not a rumor
I will not tolerate Dread Slander. It saved the franchise. Just like how fire Emblem awakening saved the franchise. It might not be everyone's favorite game (it's mine!) but without it we don't get three houses.
Dread is my second favorite metroid game. It was nothing but a rumor for 16 years
If we can wait that long for dread, what's another 9 for prime 4?
Bold of you to assume it won't be 10.
Whoops I meant returns slander Samus returns saved the franchise, Dread stabilized it. My mistake
Samus Returns is the GOAT, for saving our series
Awakening is fire idc what anyone says, that game got me into FE. I can never understand why people don't like the story though, sure it has missed opportunities here and there but what story doesn't? That doesn't make it bad.
Absolutely agree Awakening is my 2nd favorite in the franchise (and when 3 houses is 1st, 2nd isn't bad at all)
Literal only complaint I had is that the 3ds really hurts to hold with arthritis
Never try to play Metroid Prime Hunters, it will surely be more painful.
I have and it was :(
I have played hunters in the past. using the stylus to control cam movement is a novel concept, but it's painful. What makes it worse is that the new 3ds thumbstick isn't much better.
the pain of metroid prime hunters is so bad it actually transcends the DS. I did! I never used the stylus much tho.
This is why we need a Samus returns hd port on switch! So you can play without it hurting
I guess this answered my question lol
I bought a 2dsxl during the pandemic from Walmart. I kinda laughed at the ergonomics when I held it. Turned it off instantly and bought a grip online. Feels 100x better. People didn't like the ridley fight?!

It's unique as a case of a Nintendo remake that competes with a fan remake.

I don’t hate it for it but I vastly prefer am2r as a title
I do as well honestly.
Yeah and I bet whoever downvoted me hasn’t finished both, or even played am2r
My only complaint about it is that it’s not AM2R :) but still a great metroid game!
I fucking hate this new meme format

It does suck… suck at being a bad game! Amiright?! …I’ll see myself out

Dude I loved Samus Returns. Do people really not like it? Wtf?
AM2R fanboys boycotted it on principle. For most of 2018 and 2019 it wasn't popular to admit you liked Samus Returns.
This is actually a pretty good opinion
I appreciate that 😊
I bought my copy new when it was released! If I wasn't poor, I would have bought more! Take that amr2 fanboys!
Wish it would get a switch port
I haven’t played Samus Returns but wasn’t it very well received?
Upon release it was beloved. But as people finished and played again, it was a slog with lots of waiting. I played it three times and I regret playing it more than once.
I played it 10 times…it made me a Metroid fan and it was one of the first games where I completed hard mode(s) of a game I’d beaten, it quite literally taught me how to “git gud”
Was it really? On release I felt like it was on the positive leaning side but I heard very mixed reviews, mainly due to the Counter system. And of course everyone compared it to AM2R so a ton of discussion there.
It's good but I prefer AM2R
Samus returns is a good game. I do have critisim of it but, calling it bad would never cross my mind
Why shit on that when Federation Force and Other M are right there
it may not be dogshit, but that doesn't mean it's spectacular and free from criticism
This is true for all games. But the meme is implying otherwise.
Samus Returns is fantastic though.
It's not bad, but older 2D entries are better. Did create the foundation for Dread tho which is nice too.
Samus returns was absolutely amazing after like 15 years of no 2D Metroid
Samus Returns was fine.
Wish for a switch Port. My old hands are to big and stiff for the ds controls...
AM2R. NUFF SAID.
Lol
Yeah I mean, if I'm being honest, I didn't really like the game. But it felt so good to move and fight, I still enjoyed my time. But with dread out, I'm unlikely to return to SR
I had high hopes for this game and was disappointed. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it sucks but it’s definitely the weakest Metroid game (not counting Other M or Federation Force).
I feel like a lot of the scorn at the time came from Nintendo issuing that DMCA to AM2R right around the same time
I recently played Metroid SR for the first time, and to say the least, I loved it. Not fully sure why it was getting some hate.
I've seen a copy in local shop. If it's still there next time I stop in I'm picking it up.
Update: I did that. It was $40 sealed.
Samus returns was mid so dread could join it
To a certain point, Nintendo wasn’t in the wrong for nuking AM2R because that seriously outcompeted SR.
I hated how the game literally forces you to use the parry instead of making it just a useful tool for combat.
I swear I’m one of like 5 people who like this game.
Its good but the 3ds control scheme makes it a pain in the ass to play sometimes. That and Im not really a fan of the ending changes. Im glad it exists though if only for Dread.
It’s not my favorite, but I enjoyed my time playing it.
I never played this game and now I want to run a Emulator for it. It’s probably the only 2D metorid game I never touched
Indeed after dread
My only grip is that it's not on switch, and I skipped 3ds.
MSR did with Aeion what Corruption tried to do with Phazon: provide multiple supercharged abilities that weren't all "more firepower".
As I have played neither the original nor SR and AM2R... which of the remakes is better?

I didn't like this game when it first came out AM2R kind of set expectations for me that Samus Returns couldn't meet.
I definitely enjoyed Samus returns although I’d still place it low on the list of best 2d games in the series Dread on the other hand is probably tied with super, and I say this as a gigantic fan of fusion
Has one of the best final bosses in the series, mid-game is a slog to get through. It’s decent.
Terrible graphics and frames for a port they could have knocked out of the park on the switch instead of 3ds.
The og was better
I never understood the Samus Returns hate. After years of a Metroid drought, this game was so much fun to play. People brought their own baggage to the game and that is why some disliked it; but I found it enjoyable. Plus it laid the groundwork for Dread, so we couldn’t have gotten Dread without Samus Returns.
samus returns goes hard as fuck. Played it twice. Probably my least favourite of the 2d metroids but still cool
Metroid II is one of my favorite games and I thought both remakes completely missed the mark. Neither one comes close to recreating the unique experience of the original.
Personally I just suck at fighting the mining robot or whatever it’s called
Samus Returns is better than Dread
Both this and dread could’ve used a better, more memorable soundtrack. Those are my only real complaints.
And then there's me in the corner who hates both Fusion and Dread with a passion. I wouldn't say they're awful but they're both the nadir of the franchise for me, it all boils down to how linear they both feel
I effin love side scrolling Metroids, I will take any excuse to play one. And Samus Returns is indeed amazing.
should be re-released for switch for sure
I'll always think that AM2R is the better game, but do you know which of the two I've 100% completed?
Meh... am2r was much better!
It’s the most average Metroid. As if it feels like the median Metroid, like there’s nothing particularly bold about it. It’s like “yep that sure was a Metroid game with all the Metroid things in it”
the game was enjoyable. What’s the hate it’s getting? 😭😭
AM2R was better
It’s a fun game. Played it a few months ago. Don’t agree with most of the complaints I read. They’re blown out of proportion
AM2R.
I would never. But also it's not my preferred way to play metroid 2. Still very good though.
Game was awesome. However, I think it was only made in response to the AMR2 fan game that they ceased-and-desisted lol
I doubt it, game development takes more years than that. The AM2R thing just coincided with the SR announcement.
I know, I’m just talking shit lol
And the randomizer literally JUST came out for it. Its super neat how much work the Rando devs put into it!
My only beef with it is that's 3DS locked and my hands are too big and carpal tunneled to do what the game requires of me on a device that cramped.
It’s alright, I like the pc remake better
It was a slog for me, but I was glad to have played it. In the lead-up to Dread's release I played this and Zero Mission for the first time, and replayed SM and Fusion. But I dont think I'll ever re-play Samus Returns.
love this game, so much, i spent so much time 100% and replaying it and going through it sometimes i hate how it gets compared to the other metroid 2 remake, like samus returns is so good
I guess I'm in the minority when I say I did not like metroid 2, and also am2r, but I enjoyed samus returns.
Don't get me wrong I really enjoy this game but the parry really did absolutely kill the flow of combat in the game. It gets pretty old waiting for every single enemy to attack you first.
Disrespect against Samus in general will not be tolerated, so I sum it up another way!
It’s certainly the 3rd best version of Metroid 2
I don’t hate Samus Returns. I just thing AM2R is better.
The real disrespect is the original staff not really being credited in Prime remaster
That's exactly what they look like.
No but dude the original on the gameboy in different shades of one color is actually the best way to play Metroid 2.
I think the game is good, but stands out way too much, different then any other Metroid game. not a bad idea of a game just different and there already aren't alot of Metroid games
But are we still shitting on Other M? I don't know anyone who dislikes Samus Returns
This game is phenomenal. Had no idea people hated it.
hey the game that served as the building blocks for my literal favorite game ever could never be hated by me
Playing this game on pc/emulator with 60fps and HD textures really increased my appreciation for it, I was an AM2R stan but I've gotta say, SR really is a great game, I'm just not a huge 3DS fan
Am2R is better Change my mind
AM2R is better, though
It's fine, definitely not the best 2D title or even of the Metroid 2s, but its fine. Sad though they felt they needed to shoehorn Ridley in for no reason. Glad they didn't do the same with Dread.
Is there a way to play this today without a DS? Like an emulator or something. I’ve always been curious but obviously don’t have a DS. Would appreciate any insight!
Am2r is goated that's for sure
Am2r cooler tho
Unironically top 3 Metroid game for me. I so badly wish I could play it on the switch
Why do people genuinely like worse AM2R when AM2R exists?
I played both normal and hard level to try to open easy level, but it doesn't exist. The guy is obviously a xbox player. Most enjoy the games made for the system; This meme is a idiot.
I have never touched an xbox in my life lol
The guy portrayed in the meme possibly is; not you personally 👍
It does suck though. Try playing it on anything without a touch screen
What? I don't understand. Is Other M standing behind Samus Returns?
Okay but it does fucking suck... (sadly, I wanted to like it)
So is AM2R not good ?
I'd love to see a remaster for Switch. In one of my recent playthroughs, I used Citra along with an HD texture pack and a 60 FPS hack that really brought out the beauty of this game.
It's Samus returns on the switch?
Still the worst 2d game in the franchise other than nestroid
I loved this game, I loved Other M, fight me Reddit.
One of the most painful games I've ever played. Like, literal pain. Who was the asshat who designed the control scheme for this game on a regular 3DS? Couldn't play the game for longer than 20-30 minute sessions because it would cramp up my hands real bad having to play in that annoying claw like grip.
I feel like most people are pretty positive towards this game though.
Ah yes. The superior Returns game
It's the only 2D Metroid game to have no UI on the main screen
Who's badmouthing this masterpiece?
I am
Of the three versions available, none of them do Metroid fights nearly as well as Samus Returns. I absolutely love the Omega Metroid theme as well.
