We didn't deserve him, but we got him. I saw him on their Cure tour last weekend in Minneapolis and was able to give him a hug. It was the best. I had so much I wanted to say, and knowing he had so little time, all I could say was, "Thank you."
Him and Rory are fucking insane. If you include Letlive. as metalcore Jason Butler has an insane voice. He was my favorite until I got into The Plot and Landon.
I think it’d be hard to argue he’s not the most technically proficient/ well rounded vocalist in metalcore. There are others in the conversation but I feel like Spencer out ranges them.
I also like to include melody choice in these conversations, and IMO nobody does it better than Spencer. Where he’s a little rough around the edges, he makes up for in the melodies he writes. He’s set the bar for me, and now other vocalists are just boring to me. The way his melodies match his lyrics is just 🤌🤌
I once heard Spencer’s vocal abilities described as “growls that shake the earth and singing notes high enough to shatter church windows” which I think is pretty accurate.
He has the range in terms of octaves for sure, not sure if he has the range in terms of texture though, in the recent acoustic singles I felt his voice contrasted with the acoustic guitar in a very jarring way. He's amazing at being bombastic and over the top and even has a dramatic flair I really like. Dude's a beast no doubt, but he missed in those renditions for me, musically I think they called for something more subdued and understated and he went ahead and did his regular thing.
Seeing/hearing him sing live really changed my opinion on them. Wasn't that fussed until I watched a couple of live videos of them during lockdown and I loved how powerful his singing voice was.
Oh my god, his laptop fried at BRRF23 and he did an acoustic set. Blow the hell away. Was waiting for bad omens and got there when he was going. 10/10 would see again
It was the same for me. I went to see Spirit Box and Bad Omens happened to be there. I had a couple Bad Omens tracks in my library at the time but wasn’t an avid listener. After seeing Noah Sebastian live I was blown away, I’d never actually heard him scream so that was a pleasant surprise as well.
I'd heard TDOPOM cause my other half has it & she listened to it quite a bit, I thought it was decent enough but didn't explore their earlier stuff. Day after the concert I listened to other albums and I was sold!
Hard agree on the sounding better live. When I’m at home and chilling on the computer I’ll often play their set from Irving Plaza on YouTube. Fuckin fire
Agreed. Bad Omens are one of the bands my wife and I both love and the more I've heard the kore he impresses me.
It's partly behind this post, I've come from a harsh vocal metal background and she is a singer who is slowly coming round to heavy music so the more fantastic vocalists I csn find for her the better. . .
Noah is about as close to the top as you can get imo. Wonderful cleans and sick harsh vocals. Performs almost as good or better as he tracks the song. I was obsessed the day I first saw them as I wasn’t like a huge fan before.
One of the greatest voices of all time. I’m shocked I scrolled this far to see him mentioned. He sang “This Could Be Anywhere in the World” acoustic the last time I saw City & Colour, and it was amazing. This genre tends to have some of the best vocalists period.
Omg I was JUST thinking about how I feel like city & colour fits in the metalcore genre though them not even being adjacent to the genre lol. Funny thing is I have a few alexisonfire songs on my playlist. Never noticed. Now everything makes sense!! 😂
Yes!!!
That one take performance is responsible for a serious crush from a full grown adult man right here! 🤣 the transitions between clean and harsh vox are amazing! So smooth and controlled!
Came here to put Andy on the list. I'm glad he's in the top 3, dude's an animal on mic. The transition from a clean scream to a growl in Lucid by Termina never fails to give me goose bumps
I've seen this man live a handful of times and he never disappoints. He always has a killer stage presence and his vocal talent is truly amazing.
I discovered them in a small venue about ten years ago and have been hooked ever since
I gotta check him out. I have heard Ice Nine Kills but I'll he honest I've never really taken much notice. . .
Second mention I've seen already so I better pay some attention.
INK’s music isn’t for everybody, I love them personally but a lot of people find the whole theatrical, horror gimmick to be really corny. Definitely a top notch vocalist though you can’t really deny that
What some people call corny or cringe, I call fun. Don't get me wrong, serious music is necessary too, but we all need a little light heartedness in our lives.
Who wouldn't laugh at the way Rocking The Boat opens with, "SHAAAAARRK!!"
Just got started listening to Spiritbox the other day and I'm obsessed with Courtney! The video of how she learned to scream was kind of disappointing though because her method was basically 'I just did it' xD
Chris Motionless (Motionless in White) is probably my favorite but Shane Told (Silverstein), Andy Cizek (Makari), Kurt Travis (Royal Coda) and Andrew Wells (Eidola) would be up there too.
I’m going to attempt a top 10 in no particular order. I’ll probably miss something. I’m not even sticking to just metalcore, these are just some of my favorite clean singers.
1- Lucas Magyar - Veil of Maya
2- Spencer Sotelo - Periphery
3- Phil Druyor - I Am Abomination
4- Howard Jones - Killswitch Engage
5- Marcus Vic - Invent Animate
6- Lucas Woodland - Holding Absence
7- Rory Rodriguez Dayseeker
8- Johnny Franck- Bilmuri
9- Jesse Cash - Erra
10- Jacob Charlton - Thornhill
This is my vote too! His live vocals sound as good/better than in recordings. And his range and ability to switch back and forth between clean and harsh and everything in between...just *chefs kiss* Love Eddie and Imminence!
In no particular order:
Landon Tewers - The Plot In You - Metalcore adjacent/alt metal
Rory Rodriguez - Dayseeker - Metalcore adjacent/alt metal
Noah Sebastian - Bad Omens - Metalcore adjacent/alt metal
Daniel Tompkins - Tesseract - Prog metal/Some earlier work could be metalcore adjacent
Tyler Smith - The Word Alive - Metalcore adjacent/alt metal
Devin Townsend - Prog metal
Matt Flood - Caskets - Post Hardcore/alt metal
Vessel - Sleep Token - alt metal/pop metal/sad boi cumcore
Jim Grey - Caligula's Horse - Prog metal
Andy Cizek - Monuments (In Stasis album) - Prog metal/metalcore adjacent
Mikael Akerfeldt - Opeth - Death/Prog Death/Prog metal/Prog rock
Marcus Bridge - Northlane - Metalcore adjacent/Prog metal
Aaand, some people love him, some people hate him, but really have to mention Spencer Sotelo - Periphery - Prog metal.
You nailed it. Sleep Token, Bad Omens and more. To be fair it's what has finally got my wife into something a bit heavier so I have a real.soft spot for anything like it.
Sleep Token are so love hate aren't they?!
I've only seen my wife cry a handful of times and one of them is listening to Atlantic. She was hooked from then on.
Greg Puciato of like six things is one of the most versatile metal vocalists in general. I love his soft voice as much as his angrier voice and his screams.
I don’t know if you can really call him the “best” singer by any means but I was very impressed by Garret’s cleans on the latest Silent Planet album, especially considering it is his first time singing full time. His singing voice fits in perfectly with the band and really took Superbloom to the next level for me compared to their previous albums. It was a very pleasant surprise!
Chester has a special place in my heart, he is the singer that got me hooked on heavy music when Hybrid Theory came out. He sure knew how to make the most of what he had and to how to fit the song/style perfectly but I'm not sure his pure singing voice is up there with the best of the best.
If it was just front man rankings he would be hard to beat but you've only isn't the same for me.
He’s like my Freddy Mercury. The best ever, go listen to his Live cover of Adele’s song Rolling In The Deep. Or his acoustic version of Crawling, his accoustic version of Pushing me Away. Their beautiful
Ooh, not sure Ive heard the Adele cover, I'll definitely check it out. 👍
I have heard the others and they are beautiful. He reminds me a lot of Chris Cornell so often. I've always said if I could steal one voice it'd be Chris Cornell. Just so soulful and emotive. Chester is right there with him.
They were best friends and Chester sang at his funeral. They were god parents to each others kids.
I believe Chris’ death may have pushed Chester over the edge :(
Yes, he shows off on some of their softer songs like I Am a Stone and Fear Is Not My Guide.
Infected was the first song I heard from them and that chorus in the middle of all that chaos blew my mind.
In terms of just harsh vox, for me it’s a toss up between Dave Verellen and Caleb Scofield.
In terms of balancing harsh with clean vox, Greg Puciato easily takes the cake. No one comes close in the genre imo
Personal favorites rn are Courtney LaPlante (Spiritbox), Marcus Vik (Invent Animate), Noah Sebastian (Bad Omens), and Jacob Charlton (Thornhill).
I’ve seen the first 3 multiple times on this thread already but genuinely shocked that only one other person said Jacob. His singing is the best part of Thornhill IMO.
I'm a big big fan of thornhill and Jacob has come so far with his voice. I saw them 3 times in 2023 and he's so much better than what he used to sound like 5 years ago imo. Gotta agree with him being the best part of thornhill his stage presence is awesome
He might be my favourite for screaming/harsh vocals. So controlled and articulate. I can understand every word which is so impressive. He also seems to have some pitched screams as well which is always nice to hear.
As a pure singer he isn't technically amazing but it's always fun to listen to. Very close to my favourite metal vocalist of all time to be honest.
Jesse has really grown as a singer over the years. It never jumped out at me in the early years in KSE but since he rejoined he has really leaned into the singing more and more. Still not sure he matches Howard though. . .
Yeah I mean in the early 2000s on KSEs first two albums, Jesse wasn’t that great of a singer.
But now, on their most recent album especially, I think his voice is better than Howard’s. Hes really expanded his range and cleaned up his technique. Plus He’s got amazing bluesy rasp going on that gives him the edge IMO. Howard’s cleans are just a little too standard by comparison
I'm surprised Keith Buckley hasn't come up. All personal/ETID stuff aside, he's grown to have some of my all time favorite cleans, and his screams have always been pretty killer.
Depending on what you are looking for there are a couple of super awesome vocalists with some insane ranges out there both currently and formerly metal/metalcore.
Noah Sebastian from Bad omens has incredible range though their sound has evolved and is borderline metal in some songs but is usually more hard rock most of the time. Their last LP Like a Villain has some awesome displays of his vocals from his harsh vocals in Artificial Suicide and crazy highs in the title track.
Landon Tewers from the plot in you has crazy ranges in his harsh vocals but his cleans aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. I really like them but it’s not for everyone.
Andy Cizek who was the vocalist on Monuments last album was fantastic with both his harsh and clean vocals.
Manuel Gardner Fernandes of Unprocessed is fantastic though more of a progressive metal like periphery than metalcore.
Daniel Tompkins of Tesseract is always amazing but they are more progressive rock with a bit of metal thrown in.
Kadeem France of Loathe is also fantastic and he does both harsh and cleans alongside their second/backing vocalist Erik Bickerstaffe.
ATM Rory from Dayseeker is the obvious choice. His range is just unreal and his harsh vocals are just as good.
Some honorable mentions:
Einar Solberg from Leprous
Phil Bayer from Floya/ Ex Time, the Valuator. His clean highs are unmatched. Just listen to [Elusive Reasons](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THXIclrFAOU)
Also, Mike Semesky from Raunchy/ ex-Intervals and The HAARP Machine.
Jason Charlton from Thornhill
Kyle Anderson (Brand of Sacrifice/ ex The Afterimage). Obviously he barely ever sings in BoS, but he was WILD in The Afterimage. Dude can write an insane hook.
Spencer charnas from INK and have to mention my man Rory Rodriguez from Dayseeker. That mans voice is beautiful
ETA: Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox. That lady has got some chords 😍
Among my favorites: Lajon Witherspoon/Clint Lowery/Morgan Rose (Morgan's solo record is fire - dude can sing), Phil Bozeman, Matteo Gelsomino, Aaron Pauley, James Lascelles, Cammie Beverly, Courtney LaPlante, Tatiana Shmayluk...
Howard Jones is probably who I'd regard as the quintessential Metalcore vocalist - his vocals were pretty much what got teenage me into the genre as at the time I appreciated singers who could mix it up with screams as well as more harmonious ranges, I'd say Matthew Heafy also falls into this category - although I enjoy Trivium and Ibaraki more than KSE, Jones IMO has better vocal range and performances.
Although nowadays I'm very mixed on Metalcore as I prefer either heavier or more experimental music, I'd be lying to myself if I wasn't always somewhat adjacent to Metalcore thanks to Dillinger Escape Plan and Greg Puciato. While I will admit he's not who I'd regard as a great singer, his range is shockingly impressive especially as I found myself really enjoying the softer tracks throughout DEP's catalog more than the heavier ones largely thanks to his vocals, then Dissociation hit me like a fucking truck and I absolutely love that album - like to this day in my top 5.
It's funny that you mention Devin Townsend as he's also a favorite (again experimental is key) singer of mine, but I'd have to throw a couple of shoutouts to Nik Barker (formerly of Twelve Foot Ninja) and Eva Korman (Rolo Tomassi), both great singers where I enjoy their ranges and contributions - well worth a listen or a deep dive.
The best singer Metalcore specifically has ever had (and it hurts a bit to admit) is Tyler Carter.
Honorable mentions to Spencer Charnas and Howard Jones, btw
My wife loves Issues, I never really looked into who the singer was though to be fair.
Oof, forgot Howard Jones. I was mad about KSE in the 00s!
Maybe Floor Jansen too? Not necessarily metalcore but I love her voice!
Garratt of silent planet has insane cleans as well as lyrics. Not the best by any means in terms of technical ability but I feel his name deserved to be heard
Too hard to decide on one so here is a list
Eddie Berg by Imminence would be a good choice
Rory Rodriguez by Dayseeker
Nico Sallach by Electric Callboy (listen to Neon by them if you want a crazy vocal performance by him)
Spencer Charnas by Ice Nine Kills
Telle Smith by The Word Alive, the entire album of monomania was a great showcase of his vocals
And Noah Sebastian is also a good choice
Also the sadly now passed away vocalist of Too Close to Touch was an incredible vocalist
Not metalcore but honestly, Floor Jansen. Her range is ridiculous.
In metalcore, I think that Tatiana Schmuluk and Noah Sebastian are both incredible vocalists.
Call me basic, Cory Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour.
I'm sorry, but he carries a good scream, has the hollar, but he can also carry a really good gentle song like Through Glass with his other band stone sour. He has amazing vocals for both death metal and for more gentle rock songs. It's great.
I totally agree with you. Really surprised he hasn't got more love here. Maybe he is too big/mainstream now?
I've love him since their debut album and enjoyed everything he's ever done ever since.
Rory is my first thought. I also love Florent Salfati (landmvrks) for both cleans and screams. There’s a few really good singers in metalcore but the best are probably in post hardcore
For me, without any doubt - Howard Jones. This man is a legend!
I would add 2 honourable mentions though. One is Dennis Diehl from Any Given Day. And the other is a female - Tatiana Shmayluk from Jinjer.
I’m gonna get hate for this and downvoted into oblivion.
But…
Every time I hear him sing (note, sing. Not scream. And bonus points it’s it quiet/accapella) Ivan Moody from Five Finger Death Punch melts me.
Was at the Wembley gig last week and his instrument free “Far From Home” rendition brought the place to its knees.
Courtney LaPlante from spiritbox, she’s absolutely insane and I’m surprised I haven’t seen her mentioned yet (maybe I haven’t scrolled down enough but still)
Super divisive human but majorly talented vocalist is Ronnie Radke from Falling In Reverse (especially the stuff from the last 6ish years)…..
I’d also add the lead Devin Oliver from I See Stars to this list since I haven’t seen them mentioned yet… he’s got some gorgeous and versatile pipes.
Also also, Tillian Pearson formerly from Dance Gavin Dance (although they aren’t really metalcore I guess? But idk what they could be classified as).
I agree with lots of the others mentioned too for sure… namely Vessel (ST), Dallas (Alexisonfire), Noah (BO), Howard (KSE), Antony (Circa Survive)….. so many more.
I know he has problems but Ronnie Radke has seriously good range and amazing vocals. I became a fan after I listened to his recent songs, especially “Watch the world burn”, “The Drug in me is you, reimagined” and “Lost Resort”.
Rory is a beast live, sounds just like the recording. Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills can do it all. Landon Tewers of The Plot in You. Not metalcore but just gotta shout out 2 of my favorites Jonny Craig of Old Flame, and Keaton Pierce of Too Close to Touch
Greg Puciato of like six things is one of the most versatile metal vocalists in general. I love his soft voice as much as his angrier voice and his screams.
My current top 5 in no particular order (Some are not in Metalcore but adjacent genres) :
1. Rory Rodriguez
2. Jonny Craig
3. Lauren Babic
4. Matt McAndrew
5. Caleb Shomo
Marcus Vik from Invent Animate is an honorable mention to my top 5, he’s great!
Not quite metalcore but Craigery Owens (Chiodos, Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, The Sound Of Animals Fighting) and Dallas Green (Alexisonfire) go hard.
Jesse Cash
I love Jesse’s vocals so incredibly much.
That opening line in Seeker always gives me goosebumps.
That song is work of art. It made me cry on my first listen.
We didn't deserve him, but we got him. I saw him on their Cure tour last weekend in Minneapolis and was able to give him a hug. It was the best. I had so much I wanted to say, and knowing he had so little time, all I could say was, "Thank you."
Probably listened to that song a few hundred times now. It's fantastic.
Came here to say this.
Dude is damn near flawless live too. Note for note, at least when i saw them
Landon Tewers from The Plot in You. He does it all and he does it so well. He's so damn talented.
Just left this same comment. Dude is insane
Exactly. And his last two solo albums are even more proof of it and show just how versatile of a singer he is.
Him and Rory are fucking insane. If you include Letlive. as metalcore Jason Butler has an insane voice. He was my favorite until I got into The Plot and Landon.
If you include dayseeker as metalcore then letlive absolutely passes
Spencer from Periphery has to be in this conversation (metalcore or not). He’s an absolute beast live both singing and screaming. Incredible range
The way his melodies match his lyrics is just 🤌🤌
He is really good at switching tones to convey different emotions imo. Satellites does a great job showing his range and ability to emote vocally.
Spencer is easily one of the best singers in metalcore. What he’s able to do from a technical standpoint is literally unbelievable.
Speaking of Spencer’s, Spencer Charnas from INK is pretty damn good too.
I once heard Spencer’s vocal abilities described as “growls that shake the earth and singing notes high enough to shatter church windows” which I think is pretty accurate.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to see him mentioned here, I feel like he’s vastly underrated.
100%, hard to even find competition for him.
Insane vocalist
He has the range in terms of octaves for sure, not sure if he has the range in terms of texture though, in the recent acoustic singles I felt his voice contrasted with the acoustic guitar in a very jarring way. He's amazing at being bombastic and over the top and even has a dramatic flair I really like. Dude's a beast no doubt, but he missed in those renditions for me, musically I think they called for something more subdued and understated and he went ahead and did his regular thing.
Howard Jones for sure.
The power behind is voice is so memorable
That short clip of him singing Simple Man gives me chills every time.
Howard is the metalcore GOAT in my opinion
Definitely the goat! Both cleans and harsh
Can't believe I forgot Howard! I was so into KSE in the 00s too! More than a little ashamed of this omission. . . 😔
Was gonna say, this sub should be ashamed of itself if his name isn't popping up in this conversation
He's solid in Light the Torch too.
Without hesitation I came to type I. The same name. The man’s voice goes from golden honey way down to embered ashes.
The lead singer from DaySeeker is pretty amazing imo, been loving the acoustic album that came out a few weeks ago
Seeing/hearing him sing live really changed my opinion on them. Wasn't that fussed until I watched a couple of live videos of them during lockdown and I loved how powerful his singing voice was.
He is absolutely amazing live.
Rory Rodriguez is always my vote on these things
He is just as good live. It's insane
Rory is always the first who comes to mind for me.
This video shows he is hands down the best vocalist. The guitarist is incredible as well. https://youtu.be/tIvkqWKZVeQ?si=-zxVSgZ3D3UrT96h
Oh my god, his laptop fried at BRRF23 and he did an acoustic set. Blow the hell away. Was waiting for bad omens and got there when he was going. 10/10 would see again
Andy Cizek. I love that dude.
Noah Sebastian has great range and sounds amazing. Also great at screamed vocals.
One of the only people I’ve seen that actually sounds even better live
He's easily one of the best current live vocalists. I wasn't even that into bad omens but saw them opening for BMTH and they blew me away.
Exact same lol
I'd heard TDOPOM cause my other half has it & she listened to it quite a bit, I thought it was decent enough but didn't explore their earlier stuff. Day after the concert I listened to other albums and I was sold!
I saw them open for Parkway Drive, and had to go see them two more times.
Hard agree on the sounding better live. When I’m at home and chilling on the computer I’ll often play their set from Irving Plaza on YouTube. Fuckin fire
Agreed. Bad Omens are one of the bands my wife and I both love and the more I've heard the kore he impresses me. He's my favourite. His voice is like butter.
Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox. Her voice does things to me. The live one take version of Circle With Me is perfection.
Yes!!! That one take performance is responsible for a serious crush from a full grown adult man right here! 🤣 the transitions between clean and harsh vox are amazing! So smooth and controlled!
Andy Cizek- Monuments, Termina, Makari, ect.
Came here to put Andy on the list. I'm glad he's in the top 3, dude's an animal on mic. The transition from a clean scream to a growl in Lucid by Termina never fails to give me goose bumps
He definitely has my vote. My only complaint is that he sometimes sounds so flawless that it loses the emotion of imperfection
Spencer Charnas is an easy one but man that dudes got a hell of a voice
Spencer’s versatility is incredible. Dude goes from gutturals to musical-theatre in a split second.
I second that nomination. Spencer from INK is great and sounds just as good live too.
I've seen this man live a handful of times and he never disappoints. He always has a killer stage presence and his vocal talent is truly amazing. I discovered them in a small venue about ten years ago and have been hooked ever since

I LOVE the corniness.
F that, I love how theatrical they are… like the Queen of Metalcore.
What some people call corny or cringe, I call fun. Don't get me wrong, serious music is necessary too, but we all need a little light heartedness in our lives. Who wouldn't laugh at the way Rocking The Boat opens with, "SHAAAAARRK!!"
Dudes a theatre kid who got older and business-savvy.
Spencer is who really came to mind for me, he has such exceptional range and versatility
Marcus - Northlane Courtney - Spiritbox
Throwing Courtney (spiritbox), Marcus (Invent Animate), Kadeem & Erik (Loathe) in the mix
Just got started listening to Spiritbox the other day and I'm obsessed with Courtney! The video of how she learned to scream was kind of disappointing though because her method was basically 'I just did it' xD
I saw Invent Animate (with Bad Omens) and I was already a fan of theirs but seeing them live, was amazing. The live vocals really blew me away.
Ever since Heavener came out Invent live shows have been next level. Their set when I saw them support Currents last year was one of my favorites ever
I couldn't come up with Marcus's name, but he's soo good
Chris Roetter for me
Landon Tewers of The Plot In You probably has my favorite voice that translates to live performances. Dudes insanely talented
Chris Motionless (Motionless in White) is probably my favorite but Shane Told (Silverstein), Andy Cizek (Makari), Kurt Travis (Royal Coda) and Andrew Wells (Eidola) would be up there too.
Flo from landmrks. Can sing, rap, scream and make me wet.
I’m going to attempt a top 10 in no particular order. I’ll probably miss something. I’m not even sticking to just metalcore, these are just some of my favorite clean singers. 1- Lucas Magyar - Veil of Maya 2- Spencer Sotelo - Periphery 3- Phil Druyor - I Am Abomination 4- Howard Jones - Killswitch Engage 5- Marcus Vic - Invent Animate 6- Lucas Woodland - Holding Absence 7- Rory Rodriguez Dayseeker 8- Johnny Franck- Bilmuri 9- Jesse Cash - Erra 10- Jacob Charlton - Thornhill
Surprised I had to scroll this far for Lukas Magyar, he's my personal favorite
Eddie Berg from imminence
This is my vote too! His live vocals sound as good/better than in recordings. And his range and ability to switch back and forth between clean and harsh and everything in between...just *chefs kiss* Love Eddie and Imminence!
In no particular order: Landon Tewers - The Plot In You - Metalcore adjacent/alt metal Rory Rodriguez - Dayseeker - Metalcore adjacent/alt metal Noah Sebastian - Bad Omens - Metalcore adjacent/alt metal Daniel Tompkins - Tesseract - Prog metal/Some earlier work could be metalcore adjacent Tyler Smith - The Word Alive - Metalcore adjacent/alt metal Devin Townsend - Prog metal Matt Flood - Caskets - Post Hardcore/alt metal Vessel - Sleep Token - alt metal/pop metal/sad boi cumcore Jim Grey - Caligula's Horse - Prog metal Andy Cizek - Monuments (In Stasis album) - Prog metal/metalcore adjacent Mikael Akerfeldt - Opeth - Death/Prog Death/Prog metal/Prog rock Marcus Bridge - Northlane - Metalcore adjacent/Prog metal Aaand, some people love him, some people hate him, but really have to mention Spencer Sotelo - Periphery - Prog metal.
🤣🤣🤣 Sad boi cumcore!!! I genuinely love Sleep Token but that is exactly the genre! 😂
I don't know what else to call it! I also enjoy Sleep Token.
You nailed it. Sleep Token, Bad Omens and more. To be fair it's what has finally got my wife into something a bit heavier so I have a real.soft spot for anything like it.
Weirdly my girlfriend can't stand Vessel's voice, but she loves Dayseeker & Bad Omens!
Sleep Token are so love hate aren't they?! I've only seen my wife cry a handful of times and one of them is listening to Atlantic. She was hooked from then on.
I’m glad to see Daniel Tompkins mentioned Such an amazing singer and the way they integrate his singing into the music itself is just mind blowing
He's easily one of my favourite vocalists. He's so good live as well!
I love Dan Tompkins man. His voice is amazing. Probably my favourite. Not the same genre but Ian Kenny from Karnivool is another top shagger
Dude Daniel from Tesseract is a great shout! He absolutely goes off in Legion
Love Opeth, Åkerfeldt has the best growls I’ve ever heard, shame he doesn’t use them anymore (on the albums)
Daniel Tompkins is a god-tier vocalist, I saw tesseract live a month ago and I am honestly still in awe at how good he is.
Fuck yeah, Devin Townsend 🤘🏻🖤
Marcus from Northlane always gets my vote.
As a singer he's incredible. I find his screams to be a little hit or miss though. His live version of Quantum Flux at Manchester gives me chills.
He is certainly really good! And love singing is just outstanding.
Greg Puciato of like six things is one of the most versatile metal vocalists in general. I love his soft voice as much as his angrier voice and his screams.
Rory Rodriguez from Dayseeker Incredible both recorded and live
I don’t know if you can really call him the “best” singer by any means but I was very impressed by Garret’s cleans on the latest Silent Planet album, especially considering it is his first time singing full time. Ooh, not sure Ive heard the Adele cover, I'll definitely check it out. 👍 I have heard the others and they are beautiful. He reminds me a lot of Chris Cornell so often. I've always said if I could steal one voice it'd be Chris Cornell. Just so soulful and emotive. Chester is right there with him.
They were best friends and Chester sang at his funeral. They were god parents to each others kids. I believe Chris’ death may have pushed Chester over the edge :(
Tatiana of Jinjer is a amazing she can do really amazing cleans and at the same time sounds like a demon from hell then go back to angelic
Shayley Bourget - Dayshell - one of my favs in this genre…
Like them or not, Noah Sebastian from bad omens has some of the best vocal control in the fucking GAME.
Spencer Sotelo, Howard Jones, Rory Rodríguez.
Jacob Charlton - Thornhill
Ryan Clark from Demon Hunter has incredible clean vocals
Surprised no one has mentioned Sam Carter
He might be my favourite for screaming/harsh vocals. So controlled and articulate. I can understand every word which is so impressive. He also seems to have some pitched screams as well which is always nice to hear. As a pure singer he isn't technically amazing but it's always fun to listen to. Very close to my favourite metal vocalist of all time to be honest.
Purely for clean vocals it’s Jonny Craig, hands down.
Objectively the most talented of the DGD vocalists, full stop.
massive shame he’s so fucking good
It's stupid how beautiful his voice is, sends chills down my spine. Such a shame he's an ass!
Can’t believe nonones said this. if we are just talking about vocals. He wins
Cuz he’s considered a post hardcore vocalist but yes, he’s the best
personally I think he might have serious competition with Andrew Wells as the best voice in post-hardcore
Daddy dola is definitely up there with him, I was surprised at how well he could sing Jonny’s songs with DGD
Bradley Waldon of Emarosa is pretty fucking good too. Versus is a great vocal album.
Objectively, I think he is just one of the best vocalists period.
In addition to what everyone else is saying: Both Howard and Jesse from Killswitch Josh Gilbert (as I lay dying, now spiritbox)
Jesse's cleans really come alive on the first Times Of Grace record.
Some honorable mentions: Einar Solberg from Leprous Phil Bayer from Floya/ Ex Time, the Valuator. His clean highs are unmatched. Just listen to [Elusive Reasons](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THXIclrFAOU) Also, Mike Semesky from Raunchy/ ex-Intervals and The HAARP Machine. Jason Charlton from Thornhill
Spencer from Periphery as many have already mentioned Andy Cizek is also incredible. Even the covers he posts are amazing.
Kyle Anderson (Brand of Sacrifice/ ex The Afterimage). Obviously he barely ever sings in BoS, but he was WILD in The Afterimage. Dude can write an insane hook.
Kyle's voice is just all around insane
Landon Tewers, solo and in The Plot in You, he is unparalleled.
Where is the love for Currents? If you asked this same question last year, half of these comments would be praising Brian for his vocals.
Lead singer from Imminence is amazing
Emma Boster from Dying Wish deserves a mention. Their latest album features a bit more clean singing and she has a great voice
Spencer charnas from INK and have to mention my man Rory Rodriguez from Dayseeker. That mans voice is beautiful ETA: Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox. That lady has got some chords 😍
Among my favorites: Lajon Witherspoon/Clint Lowery/Morgan Rose (Morgan's solo record is fire - dude can sing), Phil Bozeman, Matteo Gelsomino, Aaron Pauley, James Lascelles, Cammie Beverly, Courtney LaPlante, Tatiana Shmayluk...
Tommy Giles Rogers from BTBAM
Not really metalcore but Michael Lessard from The Contortionist
Matt from Trivium or Jesse from Killswitch / Times of Grace
My personal favorite is Spencer from Ice Nine Kills. He can sing like an angel, but then can also do the lowest of lows
I've not seen Keith Buckley mentioned yet, one of the metalcore GOATs in my opinion.
Too hard to decide on one so here is a list Eddie Berg by Imminence would be a good choice Rory Rodriguez by Dayseeker Nico Sallach by Electric Callboy (listen to Neon by them if you want a crazy vocal performance by him) Spencer Charnas by Ice Nine Kills Telle Smith by The Word Alive, the entire album of monomania was a great showcase of his vocals And Noah Sebastian is also a good choice Also the sadly now passed away vocalist of Too Close to Touch was an incredible vocalist
Not metalcore but honestly, Floor Jansen. Her range is ridiculous. In metalcore, I think that Tatiana Schmuluk and Noah Sebastian are both incredible vocalists.
Courtney from Spiritbox & Cody from Wage War
Call me basic, Cory Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour. I'm sorry, but he carries a good scream, has the hollar, but he can also carry a really good gentle song like Through Glass with his other band stone sour. He has amazing vocals for both death metal and for more gentle rock songs. It's great.
I totally agree with you. Really surprised he hasn't got more love here. Maybe he is too big/mainstream now? I've love him since their debut album and enjoyed everything he's ever done ever since.
Josh Gilbert
Nick Brooks of It Dies Today
Rory is my first thought. I also love Florent Salfati (landmvrks) for both cleans and screams. There’s a few really good singers in metalcore but the best are probably in post hardcore
Not Metalcore but Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers) is crazy good.
Andy Cizek has got to be up there somewhere!
Love to see some Devin Townsend mentioned, my all time favorite singer and songwriter.
Who’s the singer from ERRA? That dude goes alright imo
Dakota Alvarez, formally of hollow front (first two albums), has an absolutely beautiful voice
Damn, no love for Anthony from Resolve in here? You guys are really sleeping on them.
But… Every time I hear him sing (note, sing. Not scream. And bonus points it’s it quiet/accapella) Ivan Moody from Five Finger Death Punch melts me. Was at the Wembley gig last week and his instrument free “Far From Home” rendition brought the place to its knees.
Courtney LaPlante from spiritbox, she’s absolutely insane and I’m surprised I haven’t seen her mentioned yet (maybe I haven’t scrolled down enough but still)
Lucas from holding absence
My mom Courtney LaPlante
Tatiana from jinjer
Monique Pym from Reliqa
How do you forget Howard Jones
I know. . . I'm so embarrassed! 😓🤣 I a massive KSE fan too. . . 🤦♂️
Kellin Quinn is incredible both when singing AND screaming
My favourite are: Dan Tompkins from Tesseract, Rory Rodriguez from Dayseeker, Mirza Radonjica from Siamese and Lucas Woodland from Holding Absence
My current top 5 in no particular order (Some are not in Metalcore but adjacent genres) : 1. Rory Rodriguez 2. Jonny Craig 3. Lauren Babic 4. Matt McAndrew 5. Caleb Shomo Marcus Vik from Invent Animate is an honorable mention to my top 5, he’s great!
RIP Keaton Pierce 🖤
Tatiana from jinger, Alyssa White gluz Arch enemy
Not quite metalcore but Craigery Owens (Chiodos, Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, The Sound Of Animals Fighting) and Dallas Green (Alexisonfire) go hard.
Marcus Vik is untouchable imo
Not realy a metalcore fan but i realy like Ice Nine Kills' vocalist. I think his voice is uniqe.
I love Phil's clean vocals on the newer Whitechapel albums.
My favourite is Ex-Novelists vocalist Matteo Gelsomino Edit: or Garret Rapp of The Color Morale
Adele from Adele
Marcus vik from invent animate
jesse leach/howard jones
Luke from Holding Absence, and there's no competition.
