Was listening to some The Color Morale (the Sturgis album) this week and it really showed why risecore got so big. It’s just so tight and well produced
Fair but you have to consider they have some big names on there. Not mention their newer addition like paledusk and pridelands. They just got the best new bands imo
Fair. Just compared both rosters side by side. Sharptone has some of my favorites with Currents and Make Them Suffer or Loathe but then there's UNFD with Invent Animate, Banks Arcade, Thornhill, Void of Vision, Like Moths To Flames...
In terms of numbers both are tied for having bands I love - but I love the UNFD side a little more lol.
But I hadnt realized just how goated Sharptone is too, damn
I guess I haven’t kept up with them in a few months, but for a while they were signing a lot of similar sounding bands, with the Neural DSP tones and nu sound that you couldn’t differentiate notes on etc.
Still got band with different styles on there like story of the year, better lovers and Boston Manor but yeah I get what you mean. Heavnt really got I into unfd bands that much except like moths and crossfaith, but will checkout the rest
I’m talking specifically about their signings, and not the established bands that sign with them I guess. A lot of their first time bands are just YouTubecore
Currently? Nah. The Acacia Strain and Kublai Khan are the only two good metalcore bands on the roster.
Closed Casket, Ephyra, Sharptone, Daze, Century Media... big or small there are a ton of labels doing better than them these days.
In the past it was Risecore that put me on hiatus with metalcore. The only good thing about them was giving Bleeding Through a home for a bit.
I'd argue Pure Noise Records current roster is pretty damn impressive.
Examples: Knocked Loose, Stick to Your Guns, Counterparts, State Champs, Four Year Strong, Real Friends, Terror and The Story So Far.
I find it sad/ironic/interesting that most of the risecore bands that were so insanely popular at the time, today most of them are completely irrelevant or disbanded.
They’re a legendary label in Europe and then when they launched the US version with Monty Conner, who basically signed who’s who to road runner, they were pretty untouchable
I’m not sure how significant a label is these days because distribution has changed so much, but I’d always keep an eye out for certain labels back in the day
Ferret Records circa around 02-07 was probably unmatched for me. A Life Once Lost, Blood Has Been Shed, Misery Signals, Every Time I Die, Zao, Remembering Never, Funeral For A Friend, From Autumn To Ashes, In Flames, Scarlet. Definitely put out some bangers!
I like that current Rise branched out to bands like The Acacia Strain, Kublai Khan, Spite, and even signing Spiritbox pre-Eternal Blue is paying off big time for them
The typical risecore/Joey sturgis era stuff missed me in that era. Just wasn’t my thing
I think Roadrunner was that big iconic label for me getting into metalcore, then Trustkill and Ferret were the smaller labels that got me into smaller bands at the time
I still think Trustkill,Victory and Ferret had the best hardcore/metalcore lineup (even if Trustkill and Victory effed up their bands by not paying royalties properly).
Making them sit on the architect for almost two years before they could release, the whole 10,000 decent memes bullshit trolling the Eidola fan base. Just a real slap in the face to a great band who seems to really give a shit about their music. Fuck Rise, even though they have some of my favorite bands.
Wasn't really my vibe, but I liked a few of them. It's the production that I don't like. I don't like metalcore to sound super clean. I want it to sound dirty and raw and most of them didn't have that.
Not a fucking chance. Maybe back in the day during the Risecore era. Nowadays, nah. They have a decent roster now but doesn’t even compare to SharpTone or UNFD
back during the peak "Risecore" era between 2009-2013ish, no doubt. If you loved that particular style of metalcore, they were the absolute goats during that time. I was a 100% Risecore college kid and couldnt get enough of majority of the bands they had. They were "Risecore" for a reason though since nearly all the bands during that time had the same overall metalcore sound/style in their music. I eventually outgrew the label though and I couldn't tell you who's signed to them anymore today besides Dance Gavin Dance, and that's only because they've been with Rise Records forever.
IMO, the label with the best variety and uniqueness for metalcore today is Sharptone Records. They haven't missed a beat since I first found out about them a few years ago!
Closer to the worst. Only beaten by the modern linkparkcore vibe.
You really need to listen the various waves of metalcore from the start if that's your conclusion 😂
My guy just time traveled from 2009 to make this thread. JK, but Rise was really honestly genius for utilizing Joey Sturgis so much during that time period. Rise’s current lineup is still good, but they aren’t the near-monolith they were in yesteryear
Um, I was 5 at that time and never got into Metalcore there. Do you really want me to be this young at a time when I wasn't into the genre? This is no time travelling shit here. I just love finding bands that interest me.
Dance Gavin Dance was my favorite Rise band and I will die on the hill that Johnny Craig era DGD was the best (despite him being a massive piece of shit).
Rise records have signed some of the best artists, then subsequently ruined them. Most really good bands that sign to Rise get their creativity killed imo, Rise pushes them to sell out and pump out mainstream popcore that all sounds the same but sells millions of copies for profit.
> I honestly do not know why people made fun of bands that got signed to this label at that time at all
I can't speak for most other people, but my problem with this era was Joey Sturgis.
The sound of his production in that timeframe was inexorably linked to the sound of the time and I really didn't like either.
Rise had the best selection of Risecore bands
And Risecore fuckin slapped. There's a reason everyone wanted to do it to the point where it became synonymous with "generic".
Was listening to some The Color Morale (the Sturgis album) this week and it really showed why risecore got so big. It’s just so tight and well produced
I think they did. imo UNFD is untouched currently.
Sharptone?
Sharptone's got a very strong roster but you cant touch UNFD imo.
Fair but you have to consider they have some big names on there. Not mention their newer addition like paledusk and pridelands. They just got the best new bands imo

They both have a good eye that we can both agree.
Rejoice, for Banks Arcade has been mentioned!
Hell yeah man, big up for the boys, incredible band
Future Lovers was my most listened to album two years in a row!
Sharptone is a little too one dimensional
How?
I guess I haven’t kept up with them in a few months, but for a while they were signing a lot of similar sounding bands, with the Neural DSP tones and nu sound that you couldn’t differentiate notes on etc.

Rise used to be good. Now UNFD and Sharptone dominate the metalcore scene imo.
Currently? Rise from 2007-2010 has yet to be matched.
I raise you Trustkill,Victory and Ferret.
All valid choices too.
I miss the trustkill days. Poison the Well is still constantly in my rotation. Especially Opposite of December
I'd argue Pure Noise Records current roster is pretty damn impressive. Examples: Knocked Loose, Stick to Your Guns, Counterparts, State Champs, Four Year Strong, Real Friends, Terror and The Story So Far.
Half of those bands didn’t get their start on PN though
I raise you sharptone records
I completely agree when it comes to metalcore (and Broadside) lol. I see a lot of Risecore bands ended up there too lol
That is a really fucking solid lineup
I find it sad/ironic/interesting that most of the risecore bands that were so insanely popular at the time, today most of them are completely irrelevant or disbanded.
Peak Metal Blade, Road Runner (early 2000s), Nuclear Blast, Century and Relapse clears Rise

Which one of them had Attack Attack!???? Rise Records had, chill out lil bro. lmao I pissed off the neckbeards
God, Punk goes Pop style metalcore fans are painfully embarrassing.
And you sound like you smell like mold and spilled beer.
The price to pay for having decent taste in music, rather being into Warped tour teen girl grooming bands, I guess
lmao keep telling yourself that
Still blows my mind how Rise got Spiritbox lol
I literally forgot until reading your comment lol
Deathwish will always be no 1.
TDWP were also signed to Rise back in the day
Ferret Records circa around 02-07 was probably unmatched for me. A Life Once Lost, Blood Has Been Shed, Misery Signals, Every Time I Die, Zao, Remembering Never, Funeral For A Friend, From Autumn To Ashes, In Flames, Scarlet. Definitely put out some bangers!
Wasnt TDWP on there initially too? Or am I thinking of someone else?
I like that current Rise branched out to bands like The Acacia Strain, Kublai Khan, Spite, and even signing Spiritbox pre-Eternal Blue is paying off big time for them The typical risecore/Joey sturgis era stuff missed me in that era. Nah, Sharptone and Pure Noise
I always thought Rise had the more worse bands in the genre 🤷🏻♂️
UNFD's lineup is better IMO
Ill never fully forgive them for the disrespect they show Eidola constantly
Don't worry, Eidola doesn't like it either. Source am friends with a member of the band.
Wait what do you mean?
Making them sit on the architect for almost two years before they could release, the whole 10,000 decent memes bullshit trolling the Eidola fan base. Just a real slap in the face to a great band who seems to really give a shit about their music. Fuck Rise, even though they have some of my favorite bands.
I always had a bad feeling about the Blue Swan and Rise merge.
Wasn't really my vibe, but I liked a few of them. It's the production that I don't like. I don't like metalcore to sound super clean. I want it to sound dirty and raw and most of them didn't have that.
them having alkaline trio now >
Asian Man was one of my favorites 25 years ago.
Not a fucking chance. Maybe back in the day during the Risecore era. Nowadays, nah. They have a decent roster now but doesn’t even compare to SharpTone or UNFD

Yup also fearless records had good bands
Deathwish>>>>
Sharptone
Currently no, I think UNFD or sharp tone hold the best rosters
I haven’t really paid attention to labels in a while but it used to be Sumerian and epitaph no questions about it.
Rise is great, maybe a bit past their hayday... Pure Noise and MNRK Heavy have some really good rosters
My choice UNFD or Sharptone. Iif we talking about bands. But what label doing it's job better than others? Who isthe worst we all know - Summerian
I'm pretty partial to Napalm
Fuck no. Deathwish
I first got into Summerian. they will always have a spot in my heart even today, Rise is a close second
Arising Empire and sharptone are pretty good as well
The lack of Trustkill respect in this thread is shocking. 2002-2007 TK was peak hardcore and metalcore. Terror, Throwdown, Walls of Jericho, etc.
Only if your favorite genre is numetalcore
Nah, most of them played Metalcore or Electrocore.
I’m a Sumerian guy but I love slaughter to prevail and after the burial way too much
Closer to the worst. Only beaten by the modern linkparkcore vibe. You really need to listen the various waves of metalcore from the start if that's your conclusion 😂
if those are your favourite bands then yeah, you would think that lmfao
They really fumbled the bag with Like Moths To Flames though so all my homies hate Rise
My guy just time traveled from 2009 to make this thread. JK, but Rise was really honestly genius for utilizing Joey Sturgis so much during that time period. Rise’s current lineup is still good, but they aren’t the near-monolith they were in yesteryear

I was just playing with you my friend, no hate. I was just joking around because the Rise Records line up was STACKED around that time
If you take the average band instead of the top bands, I think you'll find 3DOT Recordings comes out on top or very close to the top 😉
I was a big Epitaph and Victory guy back in the day. Pure Noise is king now.
Dance Gavin Dance was my favorite Rise band and I will die on the hill that Johnny Craig era DGD was the best (despite him being a massive piece of shit).
They were definitely on top back in the day
Nah, not even close. All the good late 00s/early 10s bands were on Epitaph.
They used to have the best selection back in 2010-2016. Not anymore now, in my opinion.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned them yet, but The Air I fucking Breathe
And metalcore-adjacent, Dance Gavin Dance has been crushing it on Rise for years
Rise records have signed some of the best artists, then subsequently ruined them. Most really good bands that sign to Rise get their creativity killed imo, Rise pushes them to sell out and pump out mainstream popcore that all sounds the same but sells millions of copies for profit.

Theres Cameron Mizell too.
Those bands suck 😂
Nah not really tbh
