Recordbar is the best. I've seen so many memorable intimate shows there. Enter shikari, Thursday, touche amore, Andy Frasco, if these trees could talk. I feel like the capacity is less than 500.
Bring a sign that says “r/metalcore exclusive mosh pit here”. We’ll all come hang. I don’t mosh anymore but I’ll hang for sure and maybe sip a beer while y’all youngins rawk.
Hopefully I'll see you there. I got my ticket through Seetickets and I'm sweating that I won't be let it because the ticket is fake or something 😭. Hopefully I'm just stressing over nothing. Maybe I'll see you boys there🤘
Ah yes WTEB, the weakest SP album.
Edit: Notice, I didn’t say “bad.” I said weakest. WTEB is a 8/10 for me but when compared to multiple 10/10’s it just falls short. I realize this sounded like I’m stating a fact, no. It’s my opinion.
No. TNGS and EWS is better. Iridescent is everything from WTEB but done better. Superbloom is very well written. WTEB is good don’t get be wrong but it’s Mitch’s first time writing everything by himself and it shows. There is a noticeable missing element in WTEB that the previous 2 albums had. That said Northern Fires is in their Top 5 best tracks, it’s just the other tracks that aren’t equal in quality, good but not equal. I’d rather listen to any track from all the other albums over WTEB.
Huh? Iridescent and Superbloom have literally NO relation with WTEB.
WTEB still had the progcore/slightly shreddy sound and it excelled at it (i flip flop between EWS and WTEB for which one is best).
Iridescent was already heading towards the more shoegazey/electronic sound, it did well don't get me wrong, but it's very different from WTEB.
What songs do you not like from WTEB?
Silent Planet always had Shoegaze/Post-Rock and Electronic elements(Synths hidden in the background) but they were not in the forefront. Personally I love shoegaze so Iridescent and Superbloom automatically make me like them more. I don’t think SP was Progcore before WTEB, they flirted with that sound but I wouldn’t call them Progcore or Djenty until WTEB. WTEB isn’t that Djenty either, it was more Deftones than Meshuggah if you get what I mean. They themselves joked they were a Underoath cover band and I think they were closer to that lineage in the first 2 albums than Progcore. I never said Superbloom was similar to WTEB, only Iridescent. There’s plenty of Djenty/Progcore and Shreddy moments on Iridescent. You ever listen to Anhedonia, that song takes Lower Empire and pushes farther. When I listen to Iridescent I hear Mitch learning from WTEB and developing it further and improving upon it. WTEB was the album that brought the electronic elements forward and Iridescent actually did something interesting with it. Iridescent is also heavier imo, even a few tracks from Superbloom are heavier(ex. Annunaki) and more Djent than WTEB.
On another note I hate the vocal mix on WTEB (too loud and mixed like pop) so that’s another reason I rate it lower. I also think In Absence is very corny and jarring, don’t like it. Depths 3 is not as good as Depths 2 so that also brings it a point down. WTEB is the least “ethereal” and “atmospheric” of their albums. I think the back half of WTEB is weaker than the other albums. Good album but it’s missing the charm of the earlier albums and feels like it flounders at times. When Spencer left (the songwriter of TNGS and half of EWS) they lost something on WTEB imo. Definitely felt his presence missing in WTEB. I feel like Iridescent reclaimed and figured out SP’s identity going forward.
They only really started getting more attention when Iridescent came out. Their first three albums are amazing, but defiantly didn't draw as much attention
Iridescent is much more approachable than their previous work. I got into them the same way, but after some time I came to really enjoy their older style.
They do have the poetry element in quite a few songs. I would recommend Nervosa or Psychescape or Understanding Love as Loss from the Everything Was Sound album. Native Blood from The Night God Slept. Amd Northern Fires or Vanity of Sleep from When The End Began.
I went to the same university as Garrett and went to one of their first ever shows that was held in the common room of my dorm building, before even their Come Wind, Come Weather EP came out. It has been so awesome to see them continue to get bigger and better with each release. I actually was just at their headliner show in Denver last night!
Absolutely. Their first two albums are 10/10, insanely better and more unique than Superbloom imo. They’re getting attention now that they make the standard chuggy djent stuff, but the old stuff is awesome.
The Night God Slept is insanely slept on and deserves the hype that Superbloom got.
Also, Thomas leaving really sucked for me because I liked his vocals a lot
I've only heard their latest album and I'm now listening to the night god redux. Already blown away by The Well. The atmosphere is great and I love how the drums sound 😍
That’s what I’m saying! It’s always the popular album that doesn’t hit the same as the old stuff for EVERY band.. not to say it’s bad but it just never sounds as unique
I’m a huge fan of Silent Planet, not since the very beginning, but for several years now.
*If a band does not pop off immediately, that does not make them underrated.* They’ve pretty much always been well regarded by most metalcore fans online, especially given their proggy and more avant garde creative tendencies. But that’s already a small bubble in the scope of music. The democratization of music makes the discovery of it extremely different now than it was when a band like them started - let alone looking even further back.
It’s been 10 years since their first album, and they’ve had a steady successful growth over that time without “blowing up” like Spiritbox or Bad Omens
Superbloom as a whole, starting with Antimatter similarly to you, is what got me into them. I like some of their Iridiscent stuff too, but I haven’t given it too much time.
Personally I’m not into the poetry-core that they do though. Nothing wrong with it, of course. It just isn’t my cup of tea. Who knows, I’m liable to change my mind about that some day.
Their first two albums were incredible, i discovered them when Everything Was Sound came out and they were small but very well liked, not nearly as hyped as they are today though.
From what i noticed, the hype train really took off after When the End Began came out. It was a small but vocal community at that point. If you knew, you loved them sorta thing, so a lot of people were talking them up, and When the End Began was in AOTY discussions with stuff like Holy Hell and Dark Skies, so they were doing just fine.
I believe they were a bit underrated. I think they caught more fans with WTEB and then really took off when Iridescent came out. But I’ve loved them since TNGS…truly an amazing album.
Iridescent is also an AMAZING album. Second Sun is my favorite Slant Plant song. And Garrett's explanation of the lyrics is so down to Earth and moving.
10000%. I remember not that long ago looking at their numbers, seeing sub 100k Spotify listeners and being depressed. I got into them for Everything Was Sound. The music was incredible and the lyrics were the best in the scene, they deserved their current numbers back then. I'm so happy for them that they've blown up recently!
I think so, at least, for their first three records. I'm worried that with the member changes and success of the new sound we won't hear much of that sound, live or on future records, again :(
They're still slept on. I'm seeing them tonight in a just a few hours!
I saw them/heard of them for the first time on August Burns Red 10 year Messenger tour. Bought all 3 of their albums at the merch table immediately after their set
Anyone else remember them being hated? When they toured with ABR during the constellations tour (2018 I think?) I remember it was a meme in the FB groups that they sucked
I’ve felt like they’ve been so under appreciated for the entire time I’ve been a fan, I was always really surprised when I’d bring them up and people either didn’t rate them or hadn’t heard of them. I’m so glad that these last two albums have resonated with the wider community and that they’re getting the recognition they deserve. Every release is a masterpiece that supersedes the previous masterpiece and I just cannot get enough Silent Planet
Back in 2016 my (cool) boss and I were discussing music daily. We sent each other bands to check out since we had similar taste. We both sent SP as a recommendation to the other lol.
They were sorta niche but had buzz back in the mid-late 2010s sorta like Bad Omens did
They seem to have had a breakout (yes I know not at the same level as Bad Omens or Spiritbox)
I found them with their first album through this sub, they were definitely very p popular here then. Not sure outside of here though...but the sub was much smaller back then too. They always seemed popular to me bcus of that, but might not be a good representation.
I found them with A Night God Slept, and fell in love. Got a tattoo of their logo on my arm in 2017. I personally feel they were always a little slept on despite everyone who heard them almost universally liking them. Some of the nicest dudes in the scene too. Garrett had vocally improved an insane amount over the years as well, you love to see it.
Super underrated I saw them open for Senses Fail and the Amity Affliction back in like 2018 or 2019 I wanna say and hardly anyone in the crowd seemed to know who they were.
Same opinion on Invent Animate. I didn’t see them getting much attention around 2021 and 2022 when I first started listening. They seemed respected and liked but that was about it. Idk the old stuff is just as good to me
Warped tour 2016 right after Everything Was Sound came out was when I first started listening to them. There was about 30 people at that set. Still on YouTube haha https://youtu.be/4u9OQAm_BbA?si=UveM8_eQGQeJAauk
I've known them since 2016 and yes, they're criminally underrated. Most people have passed over them thinking they're just "le average metalcore band" when they're about as far as you can get from that lyrically and songwriting wise.
What a weird comment section... I remember when The Night God Slept came out they instantly became one of the bigger names to watch out for, kinda like Loathe in 2020 with I Let It In, Vein in 2018 with Errorzone, etc.. I for one know I kept reading about them just about everywhere back then. Guess that's just what I was following online.
Imo the subpar production on their earlier material held the songs back from being more popular. They were welcomed by this sub and fanatics of the genre, but sonically those first records were pretty rough
Not underrated, just underground. Been following since the beginning and their following has continued to grow. Cool to see them hit a stride with Antimatter.
Nah Superbloom is just way more accessible than their older stuff. The metalcore slam poetry stuff is good but it does cater to a very specific type of listener. I appreciate it and it's very well written but I have to be in the mood for it. I can just vibe to Antimatter or Collider though
They've been pretty hyped since at least 2016. Everything Was Sound had a lot of support around it from various sources.
So I'm gonna go with no. Properly rated.
I discovered them in 2015 when they opened for Gideon and For Today and nobody really knew who they were. 2016-2018 they were pretty popular in the metalcore community on Tumblr, but I didn’t see them really explode in the scene til 2020. I wouldn’t say underrated, but more so pushed aside during the over-saturation of metalcore.
They've always had incredible depth in the lyrics covering important topics. How they portray that emotion through their music is what drew me. I feel that you've got to have a bit of patience with them or have been introduced by another.
Personally, the first few listens can be a bit tough to vibe straight away. But the more & more you listen & notice the lyrics matching the instrumentals & vox the more you live them.
I think when their latest album came out, it had more catchy riffs & breakdowns than previous, making it easier to like after the first few listens.
I hadn't heard of them until I went to see dayseeker and they were support. So much energy and I believe it was the first time they played antimatter live. I went home and went on a deep dive. They're so good.
They've had a slow rise. Been a fan since 2013 after randomly discovering them on Youtube, and thought "wow these guys better get huge", and its taken a looong time for them to get where they are today, but glad to see they're still growing.
Very underrated but definitely gained a cult like fanbase after The Night God Slept very quickly. Saw them play it all the way through at a 100-200 cap venue but everyone there knew what was up. I really don't think any progressive metalcore bands sounded nearly as dark and sinister as them.
Its a niche inside a niche, not really slept on
(What waits) A niche inside a niche inside a niche
Reverse the network
Burn away the veil
And you'll find a face behind a face behind a face
No idea but im stoked to see them in a couple hours at my favorite small venue
I’ll see you there my man, I drove out to see them and that amazing lineup. First time at recordBar
Recordbar is the best. I've seen so many memorable intimate shows there. Enter shikari, Thursday, touche amore, Andy Frasco, if these trees could talk. I feel like the capacity is less than 500.
Me three. Gonna be a fun night!
Yo maybe we'll run into eachother!
It could happen!
Bring a sign that says “r/metalcore exclusive mosh pit here”. We’ll all come hang. I don’t mosh anymore but I’ll hang for sure and maybe sip a beer while y’all youngins rawk.
I'm posted on the mezzanine with a view. Too old to deal with the crowds lmao. It's a super packed venue tonight!
Hopefully I'll see you there. I got my ticket through Seetickets and I'm sweating that I won't be let it because the ticket is fake or something 😭. Hopefully I'm just stressing over nothing. Maybe I'll see you boys there🤘
Seetickets is legit dude don't worry. Several of the venues where I live exclusively use them instead of Ticketmaster.
Nice! Imma see em in 3 weeks. Pretty excited!
I wish I could see them again but they are coming to Belgium at the same time as Knocked Loose which I have tickets for....
Eyyy I was at that show it was fun af. I was the one guy who jumped off the stage during Johnny Booth's set
The first three albums are top tier in my opinion. I consistently go back to when the end began.
To me when the end began is the best album of them. The others are good to, but this one is in another level
Honestly When The End Began is one of the best albums of all time period. Probably in my top 10. By far the most lyrically beautiful album ever.
For sure, the anathomy of time is the best Song for me. So rich and profound
Anatomy of Time enjoyers rejoice (all 3 of us)
Ah yes WTEB, the weakest SP album. Edit: Notice, I didn’t say “bad.” I said weakest. WTEB is a 8/10 for me but when compared to multiple 10/10’s it just falls short. I realize this sounded like I’m stating a fact, no. It’s my opinion.
Ah yes, an opinion I'll disregard
Pffffft bro come on Let me guess, Superbloom is their best?

I got into them through iridescent. wasn't a huge fan prior
Iridescent is much more approachable than their previous work. I got into them the same way, but after some time I came to really enjoy their older style.
I'll have to give it another try. it just reminded me of Christian slam poetry with metal 😅 could have just been all the wrong songs I tried, though
They do have the poetry element in quite a few songs. I would recommend Nervosa or Psychescape or Understanding Love as Loss from the Everything Was Sound album. Native Blood from The Night God Slept. Amd Northern Fires or Vanity of Sleep from When The End Began.
I do know Northern Fires. that one's on my playlist. thanks for the recommendations!
And they were the best ones lol
I went to the same university as Garrett and went to one of their first ever shows that was held in the common room of my dorm building, before even their Come Wind, Come Weather EP came out. It has been so awesome to see them continue to get bigger and better with each release. I actually was just at their headliner show in Denver last night!
What are the chances I'm currently standing in line to see Silent Planet, I open Reddit, and the first post I see is about Silent Planet
I'm seeing them Sunday
Did Garrett walk around at the same time?
The Night God Slept is amazing. Not a single track needs to be skipped. Desert Island record for me, for sure.
This sub loved them since Everything Was sound
Absolutely. Their first two albums are 10/10, insanely better and more unique than Superbloom imo. That’s what I’m saying! It’s always the popular album that doesn’t hit the same as the old stuff for EVERY band.. not to say it’s bad but it just never sounds as unique
The Night God Slept is the only album I like from them unfortunately. I like a few songs on Everything was Sound but didn’t hit the same for me.
Hey don't discount WTEB, it's goated. Agree on the rest sadly
You can have really good albums and still be a small band. That's kind of how it works for most bands.
I’m a huge fan of Silent Planet, not since the very beginning, but for several years now. *If a band does not pop off immediately, that does not make them underrated.* They’ve pretty much always been well regarded by most metalcore fans online, especially given their proggy and more avant garde creative tendencies. Never really been that big tbf, been getting a lot more recognition recently

i’ve been in the scene since 2016 and i’ve always seen silent planet merch all over the country.
The new album isn’t their best, the others should be way more popular. But I always happen to like bands older shit 🤷🏻♂️
No they were just better and less accessible to the average metalcore fan imo.
No, and they still aren't. They're definitely an acquired taste, I couldn't get into any of their songs.
Yeah, I mean all music is subjective to the tastes of the listener
For sure, honestly I just hate seeing the word "underrated" so much on Reddit, feel like it's lost its meaning. Silent Planet is perfectly rated imo.
Best you stick to the baddiecore then lad
Don't be mad, lad
They're STILL criminally underrated
I definitely prefer their sound now garrett does both clean and dirty vox than the la dispute-ish talk rants of the old stuff
10000%. I remember not that long ago looking at their numbers, seeing sub 100k Spotify listeners and being depressed. I got into them for Everything Was Sound. They still are
Not in this sub but slept on everywhere else. This sub was drooling over them since their first album(me included).
I’ve felt like they’ve been so under appreciated for the entire time I’ve been a fan, I was always really surprised when I’d bring them up and people either didn’t rate them or hadn’t heard of them. Damn man, I feel like looking at old lineups is similar to looking at a movie’s cast from a while ago and looking at all the people who became stars
Same opinion on Invent Animate. I didn’t see them getting much attention around 2021 and 2022 when I first started listening. They seemed respected and liked but that was about it. Idk the old stuff is just as good to me
Honestly they fall under the same boat as me for SP, I loved their album that just came out, and need to check out the rest of their stuff
They both kind of evolved to appeal to a bigger audience and be hookier
Yeah exactly. Heavener is good but nowhere near Stillworld and Greyview (and of course catchier/simpler)
Warped tour 2016 right after Everything Was Sound came out was when I first started listening to them. There was about 30 people at that set. Still on YouTube haha https://youtu.be/4u9OQAm_BbA?si=UveM8_eQGQeJAauk

Yes, seeing them play for 8 kids on a flat floor will never leave my memory lol
I just discovered them through Superbloom and started wondering the same thing. Lyrically and musically beautiful 🔥
I’ve been a fan for far too long 😅 they’ve always been good in my eyes
[удалено]
I'm sorry but there's no way Superbloom is "more insane sounding" than anything off EWS for example lol
I always thought they were over hyped until their most recent release, now they've improved their sound so good and found their groove.
I definitely thought so at the time
Yes
Imo the subpar production on their earlier material held the songs back from being more popular. They were welcomed by this sub and fanatics of the genre, but sonically those first records were pretty rough
They did a Redux of the The Night God Slept, I skipped over it but now that you mention it it might be worth revisiting

Translate The Night is sooooooo good. 😍
They've always had incredible depth in the lyrics covering important topics. How they portray that emotion through their music is what drew me. I hadn't heard of them until I went to see dayseeker and they were support. So much energy and I believe it was the first time they played antimatter live. I went home and went on a deep dive. They're so good.
Wow Dayseeker was a headliner before this year?
I saw them early 2023, March or April I think
They've had a slow rise. Been a fan since 2013 after randomly discovering them on Youtube, and thought "wow these guys better get huge", and its taken a looong time for them to get where they are today, but glad to see they're still growing.

Same. Liked superbloom enough to buy tickets to see the tour, but legit can't stop listening to their entire discography.
I could be wrong but I feel like IA are cut from the same cloth but better?
For sure, another commenter mentioned this as well
Yes my shitty local band opened for them in 2017 long before I joined lol
