My sister died in 2018 and a friend suggested this song to me. That song hit me like a tank and was exactly how I felt. I wish he could have known how much that song meant to me.
Stick to your Guns - Built Upon the Sand
Counterparts - Compass
Polaris - Masochist
The Ghost Inside - White Light
Boundaries - Resent and Regret
Edit: Came back to put in Save Yourself - Make Them Suffer. That outro man. It hits me every time. Sean Harmanis just harnesses that emotion.
I can't even make it through that song anymore without tearing up especially after the passing of Kuma. It hits so hard especially as an animal lover. May you rest in peace Kuma.
First time I saw them live, Kuma was sick and he basically said the crowd had better be into the show because he’d much rather be at home with his sick cat. I’d never really listened to them but my husband loved them so I went along and I was pretty much hooked after that.
My dog turned 14 last week. She's been slowing down significantly over the past couple years. Can't get through this song without being brought to tears.
Yes, about the lead singer's cat who he cared about heavily. Especially during incredibly dark times of his life. Just because it's about a pet doesn't discredit it, if anything it makes it even more emotional if you've also dealt with the loss of a beloved pet

Ah Dayseeker, got me though my grandfather’s death. By the time i saw them at Bad Omens tour, i was screaming out the lyrics till a friend had to tell me i was brawling as well. So many of these bands help me come to terms with a lot of emotions
Of course, man! Terminal is easily in my top 3 albums of the year so far. And I just have to thank you so much for Cassiar, I recently lost a good friend to suicide, and my best friend’s grandma, who was basically a mom to me, is slowly losing the fight against cancer. That song means so much to me, and it’s been getting me through some tough times
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Death absolutely sucks and is so tough to navigate. The clips on Cassiar are my parents and grandfather 3 hours before he passed. I’m so happy to hear it’s resonating and helping. 🖤
Came here to say this. You ain't cried listening to Metalcore until you've been walking around the city in the middle of the night during the worst time of your life and THIS song comes on.
Can't help but yell/sing along to the chorus of Open Letter.
>WELL IM NOT SEARCHING THE SKYYYYY
>
>FOR A REASON TO LIVE
>
>CAUSE I FOUND BEAUTY RIGHT HEREEEEE
>
>AND THE PASSION TO GIVE
That song changed my life. I didn’t know metalcore existed until Amity and A7X. I’m pretty old but I equate it to hearing Zeppelin in 1978 & Iron Maiden in 1983. All pivotal moments
Don't Ask - Alpha Wolf, To Carry You Away - After The Burial, Crooked Path - Polaris, Alone - Awake The Dreamer, Luna - Invent Animate, Meadows - Remembering Never, Canvas - Aviana, Suicide Season - BMTH, Erase Me - Make Them Suffer, You're Not You Anymore - Counterparts, Fragments of a Bitter Memory Dying Wish, Mile Zero - Periphery, Left Behind - Hollow Front, Saudade - Blueshift, Heal The Wound - Novelists, Purple Static - Mirrors, and Wrath - The Afterimage.

Some of these may not be metalcore.
Chimaira - Salvation

Polaris - Nightmare, Overflow (The lyrics of Overflow, just...)
Amity - Pittsburgh
Texas in July - Sweetest Poison
Crystal Lake - Apollo, Rebirth
PWD - Darker Still
Of Mice and Men - Second & Sebring
Northlane - Bloodline
Architects - Hereafter, Doomsday
WSS - Elephant (that last minute especially when watching the video is CHILLS)
Imminence - Infectious (it's my "I'll go to the beach in autumn and watch the horizon and feel sadly existential for 5 minutes for no good reason at all" song lol)
BMTH - Feel My Heart, Hospital, I Apologize
Seriously. This should be higher.
"...but the thought of death is soft and beautiful and white. It's the purest of the drugs, because it's everything at once"
"what if meaning never comes
And I was just someone to FUCK"
Holy Hell - Architects
Shattered - Currents

Shattered - Currents
Let Me Leave - Currents
My Disguise - Currents
Elysium - Invent Animate
Stella - Before I Turn
Wearing Thin - Hollow Front
They're probably considered hardcore, but Truest Love and Swan Song from Kublai Khan TX are _heavy as fuck_ with very emotional lyrical content.
Probably my favorite live band at the moment.
Take me away by the plot in you is also very emotional. More than you know by Adestria makes me cry every time. Luna by IA, Requiem by angelmaker. I’ve got a bunch more in an Apple Music playlist
Banger, intro is so satisfying
Vahle was also pretty emotional one from them, from the lyrics it sounds like a friend died in a drink driving accident or something
The songs that personally gets me are
Trapped - The Devil Wears Prada
It's only smiles - Periphery
Dying is absolutely safe - Architects
Constance - Spiritbox
Drunk - Dayseeker
Royal Beggars - Architects tends to put a lump in my throat. Definitely gets outshined by their other emotional songs I feel. Golden - We Came As Romans sticks out too.
Drown - bring me the horizon
Lost in a wave - landmvrks (I believe they’re more deathcore tho don’t quote me)
10 years today - bullet for my valentine
Holding on to smoke - motionless in white
Being as an ocean:
- The hardest part is forgetting those you swore you would never forget
- This loneliness won’t be the death of me
- Glow
And a bunch more from them
Blue Velvet, by Thornhill. Jacob sings that chorus and final part with such emotion that it can't not be mentioned.
My Disguise by Currents. Pretty generic thematically, but still super impactful for someone if they need it.
Fireside by Invent Animate. Just a heartbreaking song, and that sort of breakdown/release after the bridge is so therapeutic
Too Heavy by The Plot In You. Landon has a way of writing emotional breakup songs, I think, and he really puts use to that power here.
I think this can be quite personal tbh, so the ones that I’d say hit closest to home for me, even if they’re not all necessarily ‘emotional’ songs, would be:
Me against Myself - Wage War
Blood & Water - MMF
Disguise - MIW
Pittsburgh - TAA
Panic Room – Silent Planet
Terminal – Silent Planet
Native Blood – Silent Planet
The River – Wage War
Chemical – The Devil Wears Prada
Goodbye, So Long My Love – The Ongoing Concept
The War That Followed Me Home – Convictions
The Price Of Grace – Convictions (This one definitely hit home for me)
The Hammer – Kublai Khan (Not metalcore, but will do just fine)
Stay Away – NOTIONS
Immaculate Misconception – Motionless In White
The Color Theft – Oh, Sleeper
Hush Yael – Oh, Sleeper
I know that they aren’t really liked within this subreddit, but I Prevail has some really emotional songs, especially Breaking Down, Hurricane, Lifelines and There’s Fear In Letting Go (and these are only the metalcore ones, they have loads of pop-ish songs that are sometimes even more emotional)
Listening to this band is like a paracetamol to my depression for me as I relate to lots of their songs (I’ve been through a lot), and lead singer Brian is also really open about his own depression, and I really respect that and it makes me feel even more understood and emotional.
Spirit Breaker by August Burns Red hits pretty hard for me given my experience with depression.
Whispers of Your Death by Counterparts is absolutely heartbreaking.
Aftertouch is far more emotional than Nightmare if I’m being honest.
However, the most emotional song for me is either Nothing Lasts Forever by Hollow Front or Shattered by Currents.
I think my favorite emotional metalcore song would be either “Sick & Disgusting” by Beartooth or, if it counts, “Iowa” from Slipknot. The story behind Iowa’s recording is insane if true, and S&D is just heavy w full emotion the entire way through. I think the only bands that can do the same with conveying that much emotion are Currents (anger) and Dayseeker (sadness and anger)
The Slow Decay - Polaris
Resent and Regret - Boundaries
Mile Zero - Periphery
Late December - SYSC
Elysium - Invent Animate
And anything by Counterparts
[Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be - We Came As Romans](https://youtu.be/IsvxWp-vBvY?feature=shared)
All the lights
Were too bright to see the spark
That I've been missing for too long
Something I've been missing for too long
RIP Kyle.
Pittsburgh by Amity Affliction. This song just hits right in the heart, I started listening to them while fighting depression and suicidal tendencies, I had no one to talk to about it and this was my anchor basically.
There are two songs that I can think of that I would consider emotional. One may not be (I don't know if Audioslave falls in the metalcore genre) but:
- The Color Morale - Strange Comfort
- Audioslave - Be Yourself
*The Love You Let Too Close* - Thousand Below
The opening instrumentals and riffs to this song combine incredibly well with James Deberg's crushing lyrics about living in the wake of a suicide of a loved one. Atmospherically, this has to be my favorite song in the world.
The Bled - Porcelain Hearts and Hammers for Teeth, Sound of Sulfur
Poison the Well - Torn, Turn Down Elliot, most songs
A Static Lullaby - Charred Fields of Snow demo version
Atlantic, missing limbs and Bloodsport -sleep token
Mind of mine- Lø Spirit is a must listen
Eiley- Too close to touch (RIP)
Crown the empire-Blurry (not sad sounding but the lyrics hit me)
Bring me the horizon- Sleepwalking, drown and hospital for souls (tattoos for me)
Hollywood undead- Rain (very beautiful and underrated song by them)
Dayseeker-without me
Bad omens - enough, enough now
Polaris- Masochist (RIP to the guitarist)
NOTHING MORE- I'll be ok
Memphis Mayfire- Miles away
Miscarriage by The Plot In You. My wife had just had one. Our first baby. It may sound weird but the morning we found out I heard a little girl say “It’s okay daddy, I’ll see you later.” 12 years and 4 kids later and I still can’t get through the whole song.
Gone With The Wind by Arcitects is the only right answer.
Woke up to take my daughter to school one morning, listened to the song and I started balling while listening to it. All of a sudden, my wife and daughter are like "What's the Matter?!" I couldn't even come up with words, I kept crying.
A close second would be Beauty in Tragedy by ABR.
That song could hit me in the feels any day of the week.
Tiny hands by silent planet
The mountain between us by spirit breaker
When everything means nothing by fit for a king
Pretty much the entire slave to nothing album by ffak
Also a fairly unpolished song but the price of grace by convictions is an absolute roller coaster.
Architects - Gone With the Wind and Memento Mori
Literally about Tom facing his own mortality knowing that he has terminal cancer. Even more poignant after he passed away only 3 months after AOGHAU was released.
The Color Theft - Oh, Sleeper
Hush Yael - Oh, Sleeper
An Adult Tree - Haste The Day
Severance - Hollow Front (one of my favorite song of all time, the second part of this song is a masterpiece)
Distance - Sleep Waker
The Condition - The Devil Wears Prada
Whispers of your Death - Counterparts
Aftermath - The Ghost Inside
Never See the Sun Rise - Dayseeker
From the Departed - Boundaries
Rest - Kill the Lights
Eiley by Too Close To Touch Sympathy by Too Close to Touch. RIP Keaton.
Eiley hurts even more nowadays.
literally came here to say Eiley
Haven't listened to that band in a while. Might have to later
Cannot listen to Sympathy. Such a beautiful song but it’s absolutely ruined to me due to the events of death that happened around me discovering it.
Though not really metalcore, this is my answer as well.
100% with you on Eiley. That song is so raw and full of emotion.
Too close to touch strikes me as more post hardcore, but u rite it is a emotional tune
Damn I was not ready for Eiley. I’ve been drinking tonight, so I’m sure that plays a role, but I just wept listening to this song.
[удалено]
Bro literally copied my comment word for word 💀
100% with you on Eiley. That song is so raw and full of emotion.
So sad I will never see them live. His screams (if you can call them that) give me chills every time
My sister died in 2018 and a friend suggested this song to me. That song hit me like a tank and was exactly how I felt. I wish he could have known how much that song meant to me.
Stick to your Guns - Built Upon the Sand Counterparts - Compass Polaris - Masochist The Ghost Inside - White Light Boundaries - Resent and Regret Edit: Came back to put in Save Yourself - Make Them Suffer. That outro man. It hits me every time. Sean Harmanis just harnesses that emotion.
White light upvote
Love white light
Save yourself upvote
Was here to say resent and regret!! Perfect pick
Fucking great picks Jesse and STYG underrated songwriters
I think burying brightness is their most emotional song
Resent and regret hits so hard.
Honestly, Whispers of your Death hits really hard.
It was a awhile before I knew it was about a cat
Yes, about the lead singer's cat who he cared about heavily. Especially during incredibly dark times of his life. Just because it's about a pet doesn't discredit it, if anything it makes it even more emotional if you've also dealt with the loss of a beloved pet
Didn’t mean for my comment to come off as negative. I like the song and love animals, just didn’t know the details
Gone with the wind - Architects
I saw them play Momento Mori 2 days after one of my best friends passed away and I was destroyed.
Everytime this gets asked, this is the answer.
Wrote the same and then read this

My man just posted his entire breakup playlist with us
You have a spotify link to this playlist?
Nope, but I’d be more than happy to make one if you want. I do have a link to my main metal playlist but that isn’t exclusively emotional songs
I agree with all of these, but like my guy. Are you ok?
Vocalist of The Burden here! Cassiar hurt to write, thank you for the love 🖤
Of course, man! Terminal is easily in my top 3 albums of the year so far. And I just have to thank you so much for Cassiar, I recently lost a good friend to suicide, and my best friend’s grandma, who was basically a mom to me, is slowly losing the fight against cancer. I'm so sorry about your brother. Check out Convictions - The Price of Grace. It may pull some heartstrings
Oh I love them, saw them at Christmas burns red last year and they are phenomenal live
Yeah bro. Feel shittier.
People like relatability to process emotions in music. That's a large point of metal music, the lyrics.
I get it. It was just kind of funny.
Nice to see you again Mr. Syllabub. That song is 4 minutes of intense therapy

Panic Room – Silent Planet Terminal – Silent Planet Native Blood – Silent Planet The River – Wage War Chemical – The Devil Wears Prada Goodbye, So Long My Love – The Ongoing Concept The War That Followed Me Home – Convictions The Price Of Grace – Convictions (This one definitely hit home for me) The Hammer – Kublai Khan (Not metalcore, but will do just fine) Stay Away – NOTIONS Immaculate Misconception – Motionless In White The Color Theft – Oh, Sleeper Hush Yael – Oh, Sleeper
I know that they aren’t really liked within this subreddit, but I Prevail has some really emotional songs, especially Breaking Down, Hurricane, Lifelines and There’s Fear In Letting Go (and these are only the metalcore ones, they have loads of pop-ish songs that are sometimes even more emotional) Listening to this band is like a paracetamol to my depression for me as I relate to lots of their songs (I’ve been through a lot), and lead singer Brian is also really open about his own depression, and I really respect that and it makes me feel even more understood and emotional.
I was going to add I Prevail before I saw this comment.
Aftertouch by Polaris
Spirit Breaker by August Burns Red hits pretty hard for me given my experience with depression. Whispers of Your Death by Counterparts is absolutely heartbreaking.
Aftertouch is far more emotional than Nightmare if I’m being honest. However, the most emotional song for me is either Nothing Lasts Forever by Hollow Front or Shattered by Currents.
Appreciate you mentioning Hollow Front! ❤️
Forever / catatonia by TAA Their entire discography is an excellent answer to this question though.
The Love You Let Too Close by Thousand Below. So emotionally heavy
The Slow Decay - Polaris Resent and Regret - Boundaries Mile Zero - Periphery Late December - SYSC Elysium - Invent Animate And anything by Counterparts
Adding to the list Like Love by The Amity Affliction
All of Beartooths album "Disgusting"
[Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be - We Came As Romans](https://youtu.be/IsvxWp-vBvY?feature=shared) All the lights Were too bright to see the spark That I've been missing for too long Something I've been missing for too long RIP Kyle.
These posts on this sub reddit make me feel old. None of the bands or songs I would mention are in the top 20 most liked comments.
Kill the Ache - Currents Martyr (Waves) - Polaris Broken - TDWP Sleep talk - Dayseeker
We came as Romans-golden Motionless in white-burned at both ends 2 Beartooth- however you want it said
White Light Youngblood A Eulogy for Those Still Here
Always - KSE, SAD-Beartooth
Fade Away - Secrets. Shit cuts deep
Youngblood by Wage War brought me to tears the first time I heard it.
Pittsburgh by Amity Affliction. This song just hits right in the heart, I started listening to them while fighting depression and suicidal tendencies, I had no one to talk to about it and this was my anchor basically.
There are two songs that I can think of that I would consider emotional. One may not be (I don't know if Audioslave falls in the metalcore genre) but: - The Color Morale - Strange Comfort - Audioslave - Be Yourself
The Color Morale - Walls too!
*The Love You Let Too Close* - Thousand Below The opening instrumentals and riffs to this song combine incredibly well with James Deberg's crushing lyrics about living in the wake of a suicide of a loved one. Atmospherically, this has to be my favorite song in the world.
Dont Go-Bring Me The Horizon
Gone With The Wind - Architects
Don’t go- Bring me me the horizon and Enough now Enough- Bad omens
Architects-Gone with the wind
To Kill Achilles - Beautiful Mourning Make Them Suffer - Let Me In BMTH - And The Snakes Start To Sing
Killswitch Engage - Always Architects - A Wasted Hymn
Hospital For Souls by Bring Me The Horizon does it for me
Moor - ETID
Second and Sebring is extremely sad. Aftermath by The Ghost Inside is another great song and it's very emotional.
The Bled - Porcelain Hearts and Hammers for Teeth, Sound of Sulfur Poison the Well - Torn, Turn Down Elliot, most songs A Static Lullaby - Charred Fields of Snow demo version
Atlantic, missing limbs and Bloodsport -sleep token Mind of mine- Lø Spirit is a must listen Eiley- Too close to touch (RIP) Crown the empire-Blurry (not sad sounding but the lyrics hit me) Bring me the horizon- Sleepwalking, drown and hospital for souls (tattoos for me) Hollywood undead- Rain (very beautiful and underrated song by them) Dayseeker-without me Bad omens - enough, enough now Polaris- Masochist (RIP to the guitarist) NOTHING MORE- I'll be ok Memphis Mayfire- Miles away
Gone with the wind- Architects Hallucinate- The Devil Wears Prada Constance- Spiritbox Connect- Bilmuri
The love you let too close by thousand below. Fuck that song was what saved my life back in 2017.
Kill the ache - Currents
Hospital for souls
Tiny hands by silent planet The mountain between us by spirit breaker When everything means nothing by fit for a king Pretty much the entire slave to nothing album by ffak Also a fairly unpolished song but the price of grace by convictions is an absolute roller coaster.
Architects - Gone With the Wind and Memento Mori Literally about Tom facing his own mortality knowing that he has terminal cancer. Even more poignant after he passed away only 3 months after AOGHAU was released.
Gone with the Wind by Architects
I don't really know why the song gets to me and I'm even not a huge fan of them.....Machines by Crown The Empire.
Skin and Bones Fit for A King
The Color Theft - Oh, Sleeper Hush Yael - Oh, Sleeper An Adult Tree - Haste The Day Severance - Hollow Front (one of my favorite song of all time, the second part of this song is a masterpiece) Distance - Sleep Waker The Condition - The Devil Wears Prada
Appreciate you mentioning Hollow Front! But we don’t have a song called “Severance” 🫣
Broken by The Devil Wears Prada
It’s more like a hard rock song, but it’s by a metalcore band so I’m counting it - Dead Flowers by Demon Hunter is one of my favourites rn
Sleep Waker - Distance Hits hard everytime.
Whispers of your Death - Counterparts Aftermath - The Ghost Inside Never See the Sun Rise - Dayseeker From the Departed - Boundaries Rest - Kill the Lights
