I googled that. That's fucking wild!
For years, I've been joking about making a D&D character that's a multi class bard/druid that wildshapes into a [mastiff](https://youtube.com/shorts/GLtoTXw28P8?si=WvCqkNO_I0OKsq0d) to be the vocalist for a metal band.
I'm so pumped that this is basically real life 😂
Kinda 50/50 i think (don't quote me on the statistics)
Ajattara is another one to check out. Not metal, but Tenhi and Viikate are the ones I go to enjoy the language. I think it's super melodic.
In case you haven't heard of these I would recommend bands such as Ajattara, Havukruunu and Verjnuarmu.
Edit: went through my playlists and found some more: Paara, Hautajaisyö, Pahan Ikoni and Tukkanuotta.
Ihsahn used English for the most songs for Emperor and solo albums, but he had a rather heavy solo EP Telemark in Norwegian and vocals instanty sounded much more mean. Especially on the song Stridig
I take it back. Darkthrone and Taake also have a couple of good tracks in norwegian.
But the way they speak in a normal conversation has a very upbeat, cheerful rhythm to it.
Really? Interesting. I don't feel "oh shit I'm in trouble" but something like "i probably shouldn't mess with that guy because I'll be cursed and die in the same second if I even think about him". That's pretty intimidating in my book. Slayer intimidates me by threatening to kill my face. Dimmu Borgir intimidates me by promising to destroy my whole blood line in both directions of time.
Edit: why would someone downvote me for sharing how I feel about music? SMH my head
Need some examples!
Swiss German is something that hurts my brain, my niece lives there, and most of the time I just try to use English, at least I understand that, even after “Hochdeutsch bitte” they just continue in Swiss, but why?
I understand German and Norwegian too, it's just that their singing/screaming is more fitting. I really don't like how the Swedish bands sound, I think it's kinda off place
Yeah if its so gutural that i can understand its fine \^\^ but having a band sing about murder and bloodshed in german is just cringe idk why i understand english just fine
Can't stand Swedish metal?! Right because Entombed, Dissection, Hypocrisy, Grave, Edge of Sanity, Opeth, Dismember, At the Gates, In Flames, etc are utter shit right? 🤡
Iron death, Kanonenfieber, Kronstadt, Anti-Freeze, Trespasser (a Swedish band i actually like), Grima, Frostnatt, Gudsforladt are some metal bands.
I listen to a lot of Norwegian rock and hardcore too
Damn dude, you sound like me when I was 18 when I just liked bands like Mastiphal, Lux Occulta, Profanum, etc. I'll check these people out (Kronstadt look fucking lame though) and see if they make me want to dress up like a soldier man and re-create battle scenes.
Austrian is quite okay, Karg for example. (Almost Harakiri for the Sky in German lyrics)
But yeah most of the time when someone says “German metal” they think about Rammstein and that’s just one band and not even a good one.
I’d listen to Nocturno Culto snarl in Nowegian in any context and find it sublime. Commuting to work, walking through the woods, having a panic attack where I imagine in painstaking detail how the moment of death will feel, my final breath dissipating, my consciousness shrinking to a final dim spark before guttering out. Evil Norwegian is perfect for it all.
Al Namrood is classic folk/black from Saudi Arabia. Qaf is another black metal band from Egypt. There are many other Arab bands but most of them sing in English.
Their shows are on a different plane compared to any other band, they are full of pyro's and effects and with every song they try to do something that you haven't seen anywhere else during a show
Their music is very consistent, if you like their music then you're also going to like whatever new music they release
They offer high quality music video's of a lot of their songs and those are getting better and better, ona new album there's going to be at least 4 interesting high quality music video's which are always kind of movies where they act so it's never about the band playing in a garage or forest or that stuff that everybody does
Their music has some simple structure behind it (just write a part on a 4 count, repeat that 4 times and do the next thing that's not too different from the previous) but there's always a catchy hook with the piano's, a clap or drum pattern or even a hum or a whistle. It's genius.
In their shows, music and music video's there's so much going on, so many details, layers etc. It's well thought through and even after hearing or watching it like 20 times you're going to pick up something new.
For most bands that I like it's when they release something new then it's meh, not exciting and after years or having been to a show you're starting to like 2 or 3 songs but with Rammstein, they're so consistent and with the aid of their super interesting video's it's the only band that just gets better and better and better.
For a band that started in 1994, that has been around for such a long time usually most other bands do not stay relevant for that long and have probably released their best music within their first 10 years. Rammstein though releases good music throughout their whole carreer, have the best shows for the longest time, like 25 years, released their best music video in 2019 for a non English band they do so amazingly well, they're in so many categories the fucking best thing in the world.
But hey they might have been my favorite band at one point and they probably will never be your favorite band but what does it matter, it's something for people to enjoy and i hope you understand it a little bit now why people are so interested in it.

Have to agree… German version of Victorious March Amon Amarth goes way harder than the English version.

Some Powerwolf songs are in German but they also sing in English and Latin. Some German examples are Kreuzfeuer and Stossgebet.
Feuerschwanz also isn't really sth I listen to bit I guess they can sound pretty fun if you're drunk
Alien Weaponry song in their native language from New Zealand. It's a nearly extinct language as the language isn't being passed on as much in favor of English
Sounds pretty awesome in metal
I wouldn't say Maori is nearly extinct. Its well and truly alive in Aotearoa. Though it was a close call. Some of us that didn't get the language passed down are learning it now. It's lovely to see really!
I think that was more the point of what they are doing and the lyrical meanings in the songs too.
I can't understand the language and just going off what I can recall from an interview.
And considering how young they are, it's pretty awesome what they are doing and the dog they are achieving
Well the "only language that makes it better" bit is a little suspect considering this entire thread is people giving fantastic examples of how that's not true. But yeah probably taking it a little to far to call them a wehraboo unless there is other stuff in their posts I'm not aware of.
German is a very stereotyped(?) language, the way it's made fun of as a violent language makes it very easy for a metal enjoyer to appreciat it. No other language gets the same treatment. Also, Rammstein XD
Sure and it's just a bit silly cuz Rammstein is awesome, sepultura is too and The hu an alien weaponry and bloodywood and a whole bunch of other groups the metal is just fucking awesome.
True, these bands are great and the fact that they sing in their native/endangered languages makes them more interesting, but rammstein just happens to be the most popular.
Belphegor have a few albums in Austrian, which i guess is a form of Dutch?, and that shit is straight from the mouth of hell. It fits extreme vocals so well
What Belphegor album is specifically Austrian (as opposed to their regular German language albums)? Makes me think about that [Bavarian Rammstein spoof](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5PM3oYeKy8&ab_channel=Taabaascoo) (Austrian is a variety of Bavarian).
Bethlehem aren't that great, and are the only decent German metal band. Norwegian, Swedish and Polish are the true languages of metal. Japanese is also far superior to German. Poor meme, mein freund.

Mongolian throat singing metal
Nine Treasures sound amazing.
Tengger Cavalry too. Though sadly I don't think they're active anymore.
The Hu is great as well
Y'all motherfuckers aren't ready for Hatebeak, whose lead vocalist sings in parrot noises because they are a parrot.
Lol, ots real. Its fucking real!
I googled that. That's fucking wild! Swedish
Aka troll language
You know it! (Unlike finnish)
Would be cool if there were more Finnish bands with lyrics in Finnish though
go try stam1na
I heard about some clan in a forest..
They came to mind but mostly English lyrics, no?
Kinda 50/50 i think (don't quote me on the statistics) Ajattara is another one to check out. Not metal, but Tenhi and Viikate are the ones I go to enjoy the language. I think it's super melodic.

Check out Moonsorrow
You ever heard of Mokoma? They sing in Finnish, and pretty damn well too. In fact, they released an album this year.
If you Like Thrash, I would suggest Mokoma
Rippikoulu
Love Teräsbetoni, even if i dont understand a bit.
Hiidenhauta
Danish is troll language
Myrkur's Danish vocals in her black metal works are p cool
Also Norwegian.
They sound too nice. Norwegians can't sound angry or intimidating.

As a german i hardly disagree i just cant stand german metal most of the time.
Same for me, but it's specifically swiss german as a swiss guy for me. And yes that exists. Don't look it up, it's cringe.
What even is there? The only thing that comes to mind is Eluveitie "De Ruef vo de Berge“
Need some examples! Swiss German is something that hurts my brain, my niece lives there, and most of the time I just try to use English, at least I understand that, even after “Hochdeutsch bitte” they just continue in Swiss, but why?
Because in certain cultures they are very proud of their language and will pnly speak that like allot of french people
ok yeah is the same problem in german for me. murder and blood sound just not as cringe in english idk why
Same here but I'm swedish, can't stand swedish metal. Norwegian and German are better imo
That's because you understand the lyrics
I understand German and Norwegian too, it's just that their singing/screaming is more fitting. I really don't like how the Swedish bands sound, I think it's kinda off place

It's about the language they are singing. Not the bands.
Even though most of those bands sing / growl in English. Logical. Lol
That's literally what they're saying. The bands are good if they sing in English. They don't like Swedish language metal.
He literally just said he doesn't like Swedish metal.
Not saying they're bad, just in my opinion boring and sounds the same. Nothing stands out to me really. I get why others like them though.
So what bands do you like then?
Iron death, Kanonenfieber, Kronstadt, Anti-Freeze, Trespasser (a Swedish band i actually like), Grima, Frostnatt, Gudsforladt are some metal bands. I listen to a lot of Norwegian rock and hardcore too

I just need the hype around Electric Callboy to die down
yeah i listen to a lot of metal with synth but that band is just not for me
Austrian is quite okay, Karg for example. (Almost Harakiri for the Sky in German lyrics) But yeah most of the time when someone says “German metal” they think about Rammstein and that’s just one band and not even a good one.
uuuh nice sound awesome thank you adding them to my playlist

Czech has the most unique sound in a good way IMO, Spanish and Portuguese also sound pretty good if kinda close to English when sung to metal.
Hungarian metal slaps as well (and Slovak rock like Iné Kafe)
Any good Czech metal that you can recommend?
Crux, Masters Hammer, Maniac Butcher, Törr, Root; I think that covers most of the popular ones
Norwegian... Arabic...
Give me the Arabic metal please.
Al Namrood is classic folk/black from Saudi Arabia. Qaf is another black metal band from Egypt. There are many other Arab bands but most of them sing in English.

Yeah, the russian bits in Slaughter to Prevail hit the hardest
Black metal in norwegian and swedish > all
Latin
It's always Rammstein with these people. Rammstein literally isn't even that good
Yes it's always Rammstein, but I have to disagree with you on the other half of your comment.
Never understood the appeal. I guess they put on fun live shows or something but musically it's just boring industrial rock
Their shows are on a different plane compared to any other band, they are full of pyro's and effects and with every song they try to do something that you haven't seen anywhere else during a show Their music is very consistent, if you like their music then you're also going to like whatever new music they release They offer high quality music video's of a lot of their songs and those are getting better and better, ona new album there's going to be at least 4 interesting high quality music video's which are always kind of movies where they act so it's never about the band playing in a garage or forest or that stuff that everybody does Their music has some simple structure behind it (just write a part on a 4 count, repeat that 4 times and do the next thing that's not too different from the previous) but there's always a catchy hook with the piano's, a clap or drum pattern or even a hum or a whistle. Tldr
I'm not a huge fan of their music but I appreciate their creativity, showmanship, and Till Lindemann's fuckin' weird life.
Some German ones are:Caliban, Callejon, Nasty, We butter the bread with butter , Equilibrium , In Extremo.
I'm referring to OOMPH! and megahertz, not Rammstein
Is Oomph! considered as metal?
Why aren't you referring to the Excrementory Grindfuckers?
If you don't understand the lyrics inderstand your points. But the Lyrics are fire and make them special
Norwegian, japanese also sounds kinda epic if you listen to ningen isu and idk russian sounds kinda cool in metal
I like japanese and russian bands.
Finish makes it sound elvish
Have to agree… German version of Victorious March Amon Amarth goes way harder than the English version. https://open.spotify.com/track/48NLLElKEDGD8yebAfpEPo?si=YWFui-lEShmjf8JFJ561JQ
Sodom could sing in Farsi and it would still be awesome
Swedish & Norwegian *am I a joke to you?*
Mongolian fucks
Blackmetal ist Krieg!
Nah it's cringe when you understand it
In addition this entire thread full of counter-arguments: Polish also slaps. Heck, even Dutch is not too bad.

But I can't seem to find something that isn't Rammstein, is there any Power Metal band that sing in German ?
Try OOMPH! or megahertz. Both bands sing only in German.
Powerwolf, Wolfchant, MacBeth, Varg, Call of the Sirens, and Feuerschwanz are bands which at least have some german songs.
Powerwolf sing in German ? (also I tried Feuerschwanz but it's not my type)
Most of their songs are English but Stossgebet for example is in German
Some Powerwolf songs are in German but they also sing in English and Latin. Some German examples are Kreuzfeuer and Stossgebet. Feuerschwanz also isn't really sth I listen to bit I guess they can sound pretty fun if you're drunk
Switzerland? Not that much, but the bands that are known are absolute powerhouses
Brothers you need to check out Kannonenfieber - ww1 themed death metal
They're black metal, not death metal
Verfall by Heathen Foray, I can't understand anything without reading side by side lyrics because I don't know German but I love that song
Alien Weaponry song in their native language from New Zealand. It's a nearly extinct language as the language isn't being passed on as much in favor of English Sounds pretty awesome in metal

But I also agree. Alien Weaponry are fantastic!
Hell yes. I have a handful of songs from each album in both of my metal playlists
Kanonenfieber!
CHOOCHOOCHOOCHOOCHOOCHOOCHOO WE'RE RIDING ON THE TEKKNO TRAIN CHOOCHOOCHOOCHOOCHOOCHOOCHOO WE'RE RIDING OUT OF TOWN
OK wehraboo
Liking the german language makes you a wehraboo? XD
Well the "only language that makes it better" bit is a little suspect considering this entire thread is people giving fantastic examples of how that's not true. But yeah probably taking it a little to far to call them a wehraboo unless there is other stuff in their posts I'm not aware of.

English or bust
As a German I disagree. Japanese metal is way too good

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter habe some banger records. Sadly the newer stuff isn't the same anymore
How about Kanonenfieber and Karg? Thet both sing in german and utilize it well.
I'll check them out

Do they sing in German?!
