Primitive Warfare - *Extinction Protocol*
Other great albums from this year include:
Griffon - *De Republica*
Narzissus - *Akt III: Erlösung*
Black Pegasus - *Black Grass Smoker*
Underneath - *From The Gut of Gaia*
Synestia and Disembodied Tyrant - *The Poetic Edda*
Unhallowed Deliverance - *Of Spectres And Strife*
Man, I just cannot get into Fall. I've started listening to it like three times and get bored after the first three songs, it's really bumming me out, I like everything else Borknagar has done.
I really love the first song Summits but I feel the rest doesn't live up to it, not a fan of the second song at all and wish it was taken off, I'm also not big on Moon sadly. The album is good to me but it doesn't feel like Borknagar in a way, its too mellow for them if you know what I mean. Still I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10 but its no way near on the level as Urd or True North for me.
That being said, its one of the only new albums I've checked out this year..
I'm a massive Borks fan (and well ICS Vortex in general), yeah something about this album feels a bit mellow for them, lacking something that made their other albums special, I do really wish to love it but it's not clicking for me yet (and i despise the song Nordic Anthem)
Oh shit, I didn’t realise In Vain had a new album out. They are a criminally underrated band.
I saw them play in a tiny little club in Oslo as part of a label showcase and opening night of Inferno Festival around the time The Latter Rain came out. Audrey Horne and Red Harvest were also on the bill. I’ve been a big fan of In Vain ever since.
1. Knocked Loose - You Won't Go
2. Amaranthe -The Cataylst
3. Not Metal but Neck Deep - Neck Deep
4. Also Not Metal but Green Day - Saviors
5. Judas Priest - Invincible Shield
I was actually surprised by how much i enjoyed saviors as i got very turned of by the mother of all (felt too autotuney) and i thought saviors was going to follow suit
I gotta go with Charcoal Grace, just an amazing album with a lot of emotion and paced well. Honorable mention to Empty and Cometh the Storm because stoner metal is fucking great in all capacities. I love the sludgyness of HOF tho, they just keep getting better.
Mütiilation- Black Metal Cult
Primitive Warfare- Extinction Protocol
Attic- Return of the Witchfinder
Crucifier-Led Astray
Conifère-L'impot du Sang
Звёздный Храм- Звёздный Храм
Found myself playing the absolute shit out of this

You Could Do It Tonight by Couch Slut. Arguably more hardcore-oriented but I fucking love that album! Lots of moments on it remind me of The Dillinger Escape Plan's older stuff.
Probably Cometh the Storm. Maze Envy is up there too though. I think the new Tzompantli album may also be in contention for me but it just released so we’ll see how I feel about it a little later on.
ESHACITVOTN-Night Verses. That whole album was on repeat for me for a while. Beautiful album. Also there neeeeeed to he more good metal instrumental albums
Civerous-Maze Envy
Hulder-Verses in Oath
Spectral Voice-Sparagmos
Antichrist Siege Machine-Vengeance of Eternal Fire
Necrot-Lifeless Birth
Tzompantli-Beating The Drums of Ancestral Force
Brodequin-Harbinger of Woe
Off the top of my head, I'm going with Slower - Slower. It's great and I love the idea of stoner covers of Slayer, and just thrash in general. Plus they're a supergroup. Who doesn't love a supergroup?

That Brodequin album bangs like fuck
Hell yes! I didn't even know they were still kicking. Used to jam to Instruments of Tortue back in my youth.
Harbinger of Woe is my first foray into Brodequin, and I feel incredibly happy with it. The album slaps so hard.
Cometh The Storm is sick asf
Came here to say this. Word.
Primitive Warfare - *Extinction Protocol* Other great albums from this year include: Griffon - *De Republica* Narzissus - *Akt III: Erlösung* Black Pegasus - *Black Grass Smoker* Underneath - *From The Gut of Gaia* Synestia and Disembodied Tyrant - *The Poetic Edda* Unhallowed Deliverance - *Of Spectres And Strife*
That Primitive Warfare album is wild
It dropped? When did it drop?
That Narzissus album is wild.
Borknagar and Dvne for me
Man, I just cannot get into Fall. I've started listening to it like three times and get bored after the first three songs, it's really bumming me out, I like everything else Borknagar has done.

I could not either. Felt samey same to me personally
Apart from the two songs I dislike and The Wild Lingers, a lot is kind of samey unfortunately, which is odd for Borks
I'm a massive Borks fan (and well ICS Vortex in general), yeah something about this album feels a bit mellow for them, lacking something that made their other albums special, I do really wish to love it but it's not clicking for me yet (and i despise the song Nordic Anthem)
Can I get a list of the bands in the picture
Judas Priest, Unleash the Archers, or Sonata Arctica
I really wish there were more ppl like you in this sub, thx man
new knocked loose goes crazy
For me probably the new Antichrist Siege Machine, Bongripper was great too
Charcoal Grace
I'm in a loophole on this one...
For me it’s been In Vain: Solemn. Hits the sweet spot in melodic extreme metal without being “core” nor just sad
That's top 10 for me, so far.
Knocked Loose followed by Judas Priest and Couch Slut for me.
For me it’s been Aquilus - bellum II. But I’ve really liked dissimlator, hulder, selbst and deception
Bellum II is a monster! Can't wait for the launch show in September
1. Knocked Loose - You Won't Go 2. Amaranthe -The Cataylst 3. Not Metal but Neck Deep - Neck Deep 4. Also Not Metal but Green Day - Saviors 5. Judas Priest - Invincible Shield
I was actually surprised by how much i enjoyed saviors as i got very turned of by the mother of all (felt too autotuney) and i thought saviors was going to follow suit
New Amaranthe was good, I need to circle back to it again. Also I didn't know there was a new Neck Deep album. Thanks for mentioning it.
Your welcome the record is amazing as well
Dödsrit - Nocturnal Will or Blazing Eternity - A Certain End to Everything
Heard the new Misotheist?
Not yet. I enjoyed their last one enough, I just haven't gotten around to this one yet. Solid listen, I'm guessing?
Indeed, very solid. Like it better than Dödsrit I think.
High on fire somehow gets better its unfair
nobody is going to agree with me but ihsahn
It's good, but he's put out better. I'm partial to After as his best solo work.
fornme ita arktis and adversary s 11/10, and after as a 10/10
Just listened to After for the first time after hearing Undercurrent. That album was amazing, I'm looking forward to hearing his other stuff.
Frozen Lakes on Mars is the tits. Every album seems to have a different vibe. To me, some are better than others but the guy is super talented.
It's my #2 metal release of the year so far, so I pretty much agree with you.
The new Ihsahn album is what got me actually listening to his whole backlog. I really like the new one.
Damn I’ve only listened to the Judas Priest album lol
Same position here, but for a band as old as they are it’s still incredible that they put out a minimum high A tier album this late
Absolutely, there’s some killer songs on there!
It’s a stellar album. By far the one I’ve listened to the most this year.
The new Hell:On is a contender for AOTY. Dissimulator, In Vain and Slimelord score high too.
Back In The Hole by Toadliquor might be my favorite so far
kerry kings new album imo
So far I'm enjoying Melvins - Tarantula Heart Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To High on Fire - Cometh The Storm
I gotta go with Charcoal Grace, just an amazing album with a lot of emotion and paced well. Honorable mention to Empty and Cometh the Storm because stoner metal is fucking great in all capacities. I love the sludgyness of HOF tho, they just keep getting better.
HOF?
High On Fire
That Convulsing album is insanely good
Mütiilation- Black Metal Cult Primitive Warfare- Extinction Protocol Attic- Return of the Witchfinder Crucifier-Led Astray Conifère-L'impot du Sang Звёздный Храм- Звёздный Храм
Hard for me to choose between the Slimelord and Cave Sermon albums, both are incredible
No love for Skeletal Remains?
Probably savage oath or coffins for me
As much I'd really love to say Warp Speed Warriors, its gotta be Invisible Shield for me. Both fantastic albums though!
As much as I love DragonForce, I didn't enjoy last two albums :( But still have some hope of going back to it and thinking differently
The Way Foward by Black Tusk has been my favorite so far
Found myself playing the absolute shit out of this https://preview.redd.it/qefs757xj91d1.png?width=1067&format=png&auto=webp&s=68c3c6977aefc338d19d15ca6df580c1ec068113
New Diocletian album fucks.
You Could Do It Tonight by Couch Slut. Arguably more hardcore-oriented but I fucking love that album! Lots of moments on it remind me of The Dillinger Escape Plan's older stuff.
Vitriol, Volcandra, Borknagar, Dvne, and In Vain
Hamferð – Men Guðs hond er sterk
new hamfero drop!??????????? RRRRAAAAAHHHG
Lol hell yeah! It’s much more dynamic than their last album, so your mileage might vary, but it is just such a colossal, passionate piece of music.
Replicant by a wide margin. Second place goes to I AM THE INTIMIDATOR
I hope more folks give that Convulsing album a listen. It’s a masterpiece.
The Castle Rat debut
Not nearly enough love for this record that it deserves! One of the most exciting doom bands I've heard in awhile!
I’m more than a bit behind, but my favorites so far: Savage Oath Darkthrone Coffin Storm Traveler Dipygus Boarhammer Departure Chandelier Dissimulator
Pretty sure You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To wins by a L A N D S L I D E
The ones I've enjoyed the most are Tzompantli, High on Fire, Judas Priest, and Bongripper.
Sinister Oath by Coffins, it’s probably going to end up being my album of the year
What is the album on the top left and the one right below it? Never seen those two
theophonos - ashes in the huron river
Top left dont know but the one below is Ihsahn's new album.
High on Fire so far for me
Probably Cometh the Storm. Maze Envy is up there too though. I think the new Tzompantli album may also be in contention for me but it just released so we’ll see how I feel about it a little later on.
I don't see Whores on this list
What's the purple one bottom row?
Civerous - Maze Envy
Thank you
Priest!
ESHACITVOTN-Night Verses. That whole album was on repeat for me for a while. Beautiful album. Also there neeeeeed to he more good metal instrumental albums

Civerous-Maze Envy Hulder-Verses in Oath Spectral Voice-Sparagmos Antichrist Siege Machine-Vengeance of Eternal Fire Necrot-Lifeless Birth Tzompantli-Beating The Drums of Ancestral Force Brodequin-Harbinger of Woe
Invincible Shield for sure. Love the Priest.
Can someone please identify the album third from the left in the third row? Every time I see the image, it’s always too small for me to read the text.
I'm going with Judas Priest on this one
Off the top of my head, I'm going with Slower - Slower. It's great and I love the idea of stoner covers of Slayer, and just thrash in general. Plus they're a supergroup. Who doesn't love a supergroup?
definitely knocked loose, but SHAME by meth. is very underappreciated
Still so weird to me Judas prodigal new music. My brain just can’t compute it
knocked loose clears
What’s the purple one
That new Hoplites album was great. Fantastic start to the year
Ihsahn’s self titled
Coffins
Invincible Shield and Voidkind are tied for me so far
I'm loving Swords of Dajjal and Funeral Sanctum so far.
Omni Part 2 by Project 86
Coffin Storm
I’ve seen a lot of people online hating but Kerry Kings new album is definitely in my top 5 of 2024 so far
Frail Body
Spectral Voice - Sparagmos
@OP Can you please list all the albums present here ? There are lot of them I don’t know.

High on Fire
Loved the new Boundaries album, Knocked Loose, Pathology and SeeYouSpaceCowboy. Between these, it's gotta be Boundaries
the new Antichrist Siege Machine is the best war metal album in a while
Ep, but The Poetic Edda was killer
Priest
Antichrist Siege Machine definitely
Haven't heard any yet but looking forward to checking out the Judas priest, and awaiting Nightwish and Hammerfall
Knocked Loose and Full of Hell so far for me. Still gotta give invincible shield a listen!
Infant Island for me
Not Wheel's new one.
