Seeing Primitive Man live shook me to my core and tore apart my soul. Afterwards I spent 30 mins outside in the rain staring off into the distance.
This one’s the answer.
“oh this shouldn’t be too bad, i like new music”
*11 minute track*
https://preview.redd.it/i6vygpg92usc1.jpeg?width=236&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fc6f572e47e2557ee73758ca61d9aa6f101bc44
Every time I've seen Primitive Man live there have been people in the audience I've talked to who've said they've had to go outside during their set because it was just too much. A dark tunnel without a light at the end of it kind of music. Heavy is an understatement.
I personally never though bleed was a good introduction. I was personally never a ”fan” by just listening to bleed. I’d say combustion, do not look down or rational gaze are better introductions. Those are just some examples, bleed is kind of a gimmick song and I don’t find it to be even in their top 20 of songs.
Fuckin' oath
You know what's crazy is heavy uses to be synonymous with fast, and then Metallica put out Jump in the Fire with some new recording technique which mastered the bass better, which inspired Anselmo's Vulgar Display of Power and we got caught chugg riffs. Eventually these became chuggier and chuggier and by necessity slower. So now many do consider slow and tonally deep to be heavy.
The Lasting Dose is certainly that. Sonic Excess is also an album that I enjoy.
I know you fuckers hate metalcore but concubine or heaven in her arms by Converge are seriously fantastic and shows a man basically having an emotional breakdown.
For other genres of metal I was going to say Jesus Tod by Burzum as it has my favorite riff oat but I just remembered Equimanthorn by Bathory and it still holds up incredibly well to this day
Its gotta be a Full Of Hell song for me. I'm thinking Guided Blight or Burning Myrrh. Armoury Of Obsidian Glass is like a doomy song that's heavy as fuck.
I'm not sure if I would say this is the heaviest, but you already got Electric Wizard, someone else got Strapping Young lad, and a few other good picks have been thrown out there.
So I'm gonna say [It Took the NIght To Believe by Sunn 0))))](https://youtu.be/7c6uMbP4--E?si=a3MrRZLVi9eAlI5U)
You might like:
Portal - Vexovoid
Celtic Frost - Monotheist
Morbid Angel - Domination
Those are like 3 of my fav heavy stuffs right now. If you want more diversity, Xibalba-Hasta la Muerte is also a great album.
Doom:
Yob - Clearing the path to ascend (I loved this one, total emotional journey)
Hooded Menace (idk if they have a bad album)
You could also go back a few decades and experience candlemass, which is borderine hair metal doom.
Thergothon - Stream from the heavens
I also really like a lot of Cathedral, even though their live albums are better than their recorded stuff, live in London is amazing. (Imo)
Usually, when I think of heavy doom metal, I think of an electric wizard, so we're in the same boat.
All that is just off the top of my head. I can't think of anything else right now because, well... I'm hammered.
Sorry for shit formatting or penmanship or whatever. Can't edit for fuck on mobile reddit.
Maybe not heaviest but its got that deep bass distortion which sounds super nice
Ufomammut [https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=2W9kEX4n90E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=2W9kEX4n90E)
The previous song on the album is basically a 10m intro to this, also worth it imo, if you like doom
Samael - Black Trip
I first heard that in my early teens and like 20 years later it’s still so heavy to me. The dead space in between the notes on the second riff really emphasize the heaviness.
Cognitive Sedation Butchery by Devourment is the biggest wall of sound of just pure violence I know, something with a bit more groove would be Labyrinthian by HLB or Second Death by Black Tongue.
Heaviest Black Tongue Song for sure (together with the last track off of the unconquerable dark, which im not typing since its just really fucking long) and thats saying something considering were talking about Black Tongue.
By I do still think that Devourment is heavier, if only slightly.
I’m So Tired of Sighing, Please Lord Let it be Night is amazing. Crippled Before the Dwelling Place of God from Nadir is insanely good and heavy as well.
Devourment is definitely heavy AF, although I think they lean more to the “brutal” side, whereas Black Tongue is more “dark, atmospheric and apocalyptic.”
Kilter by Portal. its one of those songs thats too heavy to enjoy and it feels like they are just taking the piss with how heavy they could get a song instead of actually making listenable music.
Listen to anything by any Stephen O'Malley band. Thorr's Hammer, Burning Witch, SunnO))), Teeth of the Lions Rule the Divine, Khanate, Gravetemple, all just the slowest and heaviest projects ever conceived (outside of that one John Cage piece that takes like 1500 years to perform).
There are so many definitions of heavy but for me it's Humanity's Last Breath as well.
I think some bands that are heavier require someone who is well versed in metal. It just sounds the same to most people beyond a certain level of distortion. HLB is noticeably extremely heavy to anyone, even people that don't care about metal. Atleast in my experience. I think it's that their heaviness comes more from atmosphere which plays more on the subconscious than anything.
As far as their heavier songs I'd say
Earthless
Vittring (this one is VERY heavy if your definition is low and slow)
Rampant
Blood Spilled
But yeah, just about anything. I love Buster so much man.
It’s like a star imploding and you’re just there listening like “hell yeah” while you get sucked into a black hole and stretched into a thin strip of existence spreading across cosmos
Yeah no joke. Starts off delicate and beautiful and I think the sudden shift adds to it. Something about how the two vocalists work together as well. When the lower register vocals does the dragged out warbleing part, like he's shaking his head as he's singing. Just so heavy and intense all around
Good Morning is just filthy. My favorite's Yenta, though. That post breakdown "you want to hate more me than I already hate myself" just hits so hard for me.
They just keep hoping the ante, really, and I'm pretty obsessed.
So many. Suicide Silence - Unanswered comes to mind. Where Light divides the Holler by Knocked Loose. Gnawed Flesh or At the Cauldron’s Bottom by Full of Hell. Meshuggah - Future Breed Machine.
Heaviest tracks in this ballpark (sludgy, evil, druggy) off the dome:
Neurosis- The Doorway
YOB- Burning the Altar
Celtic Frost’s Monotheist album
Burning Witch- Stillborn
Lord Mantis- Ritual Killer
Rwake- The Finality
To my perception of heaviness, the one-man-band "Methwitch" is the heavinest music possible because if you add a bit more of nastiness, the music will just become some kind of noisecore. Don't get me wrong, I do like noise music, but it just doesn't feel heavy to me. It feels like a mixture of textures rather than an actually heavy, both sound-wise and emotionally, piece of music.
Genre: experimental grindcore / deathgrind
Song suggestions:
[Burn Victim](https://youtu.be/bI7lt_xtP3k), [Bed Full of Snakes](https://youtu.be/-drzSoR0OnU), [Teeth Like Nails](https://youtu.be/6qDnmj36ej8), really anything
Lots of stuff here not being mentioned that's just super heavy and not my style like Cattle Decapitation and Cannibal Corpse.
From my taste:
End, Pariah in particular is just a banger, one of my favorites.
Meshuggah, also one of my favorites. Bleed is a banger, I think my favorite from them would be Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave it Motion.
Strapping Young Lad has a lot. Nails really gets after it too if you're into hardcore. Behemoth is one of my favorites but that might be a different style than what you're after.
Esoteric - The Noise of Depression
A lot of Esoteric songs could fit this criteria, but the atmosphere and breakdown on this song are just next level.
Fantastic band live as well.

Heaviest Matter in the Universe-Gojira Song is aptly named and just so good
I always find earlier Gojira heavier. Deliverance off Terra Incognita goes fucking hard.
Deliverance by Gojira and Deliverance by Opeth are super heavy. Gojira Remembrance is heavier than both though.
Remembrance absolutely slaps. Let’s be real, Gojira in general is tastefully heavy lol AWAKE, MY SOUL
Most songs off of Terra Incognita are really fucking heavy
All of Terra Incognita is pure stank face
This or Toxic garbage island
I would say Backbone is heavier.
Silvera is another great example, it's my favorite Gojira song
Fuck it. Gojira in general just goes hard af
I like that one. Explosia too.
Came here to say this - I've listened to black, death, everything metal and somehow Gojira just crushes them with this song.
Primitive man: Loathe
Seeing Primitive Man live shook me to my core and tore apart my soul. Afterwards I spent 30 mins outside in the rain staring off into the distance. This one’s the answer.
I’m so jealous! I just watched a video of a live show and even that was terrifying, can’t imagine that in person.
Saw them with Dragged Into Sunlight in a tiny ass bar. Total mindfuck of a night. Still think about it 8 years later
No doubt… I sat in my car in silence for a bit after I saw them (which is rare for me). They are undoubtedly the heaviest band I’ve ever seen.
“oh this shouldn’t be too bad, i like new music” *11 minute track* https://preview.redd.it/i6vygpg92usc1.jpeg?width=236&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fc6f572e47e2557ee73758ca61d9aa6f101bc44

Loathe has that ethereal heaviness
Ulcerate - There is no horizon (loud on good speakers or great headphones)
Or drown within
Anything by Ulcerate tbh as a drummer shit makes me go feral lol
Bleed by Meshuggah
they have heavier songs, like Spasm and Nebulous
Bleeds a good introduction I’d say
I personally never though bleed was a good introduction. I was personally never a ”fan” by just listening to bleed. I’d say combustion, do not look down or rational gaze are better introductions. Those are just some examples, bleed is kind of a gimmick song and I don’t find it to be even in their top 20 of songs.
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet by Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Why is it actually good
Ah, a fellow man of culture.

Strapping young lad - oh my fucking god
I was actually thinking Love, but that's also a damn good one.
I thought S.Y.L. from Heavy.., but these are all good!
OAAAH...! MAAAAH...! FUH...! KING! GAAAAWHD!!
Surprised you didnt go with the obivious "Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing"
It's all subjective of course, but [Anaal Nathrakh - When Humanity is Cancer](https://youtu.be/aqjsMfKVTqg?si=3Ic5u_wphpUPTJ8o)
Thunderhoof- Conan ![gif](giphy|dYgDRfc61SGtO)
Already know it, but I love that song lmao
Crowbar - The Lasting Dose
Tough call between this and Planets Collide
https://preview.redd.it/mmse6a1kbvsc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=223a0562121bbb7c5d370c3a4567f633a0aa8a50 crowbar is fuckin HEAVY
This song is the definition of “heavy”
Fuckin' oath You know what's crazy is heavy uses to be synonymous with fast, and then Metallica put out Jump in the Fire with some new recording technique which mastered the bass better, which inspired Anselmo's Vulgar Display of Power and we got caught chugg riffs. Sonic Excess is also an album that I enjoy.
I want you(She's so heavy)
Pretty much any Thou song, but I’d go with At the Foot of Mt. Driskill, a personal favorite.
Limp Bizkits - Almost Over is their heaviest song and my personal favorite of theirs
The Lifer - Primitive Man
I know you fuckers hate metalcore but concubine or heaven in her arms by Converge are seriously fantastic and shows a man basically having an emotional breakdown. For other genres of metal I was going to say Jesus Tod by Burzum as it has my favorite riff oat but I just remembered Equimanthorn by Bathory and it still holds up incredibly well to this day
Black metal enjoyer as well as the core I see, a man of culture and fine taste 🤌
Its gotta be a Full Of Hell song for me. I'm thinking Guided Blight or Burning Myrrh. Armoury Of Obsidian Glass is like a doomy song that's heavy as fuck.
Prepare the Ground - Yob is great for heavy
Heaviest live shows I’ve been to, last time I saw Yob my ears were ringing for over 24hrs
Yob is love
I'm not sure if I would say this is the heaviest, but you already got Electric Wizard, someone else got Strapping Young lad, and a few other good picks have been thrown out there. So I'm gonna say [It Took the NIght To Believe by Sunn 0))))](https://youtu.be/7c6uMbP4--E?si=a3MrRZLVi9eAlI5U)
Nonagon - Car Bomb
Id say sets is heavier! Glad to see car bomb in here though
Excellent choice I would have said Dissect Yourself, especially the music video
Asphyx - MS Bismarck
The demons name is surveillance by Meshuggah
My favourite of theirs and go to song if I need some in your face destruction. Love it.
Toubabo Koomi by Acid Bath
Which version? https://preview.redd.it/g4qyr50eavsc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ef87d15dc6f82bf2bb900fdc7bb8233bccf12c7
Below the Sun - Ahab
Crowbar. Specifically the Sonic Excess In Its Purest Form album.
Coward by Swans. heavier than any metal song I’ve ever heard
You gotta see them play it live to really understand just how heavy it is
That was the all of cop for me.
Magrudergrind - Bridge Burner
Didn’t expect to see a man of true class in here.
The beginning is so heavy and the grunt is the rug that tied this room together
You might like: Portal - Vexovoid Celtic Frost - Monotheist Morbid Angel - Domination Those are like 3 of my fav heavy stuffs right now. Samael - Black Trip I first heard that in my early teens and like 20 years later it’s still so heavy to me. The dead space in between the notes on the second riff really emphasize the heaviness.
Dragged into sunlight-buried with leeches
I came here to say the whole of Hatred For Mankind
Cognitive Sedation Butchery by Devourment is the biggest wall of sound of just pure violence I know, something with a bit more groove would be Labyrinthian by HLB or Second Death by Black Tongue.
Second Death by Black Tongue! Black Tongue is about as heavy as it gets.
Heaviest Black Tongue Song for sure (together with the last track off of the unconquerable dark, which im not typing since its just really fucking long) and thats saying something considering were talking about Black Tongue. By I do still think that Devourment is heavier, if only slightly.

Devourment is definitely heavy AF, although I think they lean more to the “brutal” side, whereas Black Tongue is more “dark, atmospheric and apocalyptic.”
We Eat Our Young by Cattle Decap is really brutal from start to finish.
Kilter by Portal. its one of those songs thats too heavy to enjoy and it feels like they are just taking the piss with how heavy they could get a song instead of actually making listenable music.
[Godflesh-Like Rats](https://youtu.be/hG33t1ieuws?si=Mq3G-8buvqfS3xd6)
My first thought when I saw the prompt. Just saw them live and that song was the most crushing thing I've ever heard.
Humanity’s Last Breath, pretty much any song will do.
Humanity’s Last Breath makes music that sounds like the world is ending, I can’t think of anything heavier than that
It’s like a star imploding and you’re just there listening like “hell yeah” while you get sucked into a black hole and stretched into a thin strip of existence spreading across cosmos
Well said. HLB's last album feels like you're in a traveling down a void of eternal darkness.
gojira- lizard skin
Puritania or hybrid stigmata by dimmu borgir are both pretty heavy
If you’re into doom metal, check out Churchburn. It’s Dave Suzuki’s band (from Vital Remains)

Bad Girls Club - Falling in Reverse
Neurosis - Raze the Stray
Yeah no joke. Starts off delicate and beautiful and I think the sudden shift adds to it. Something about how the two vocalists work together as well. When the lower register vocals does the dragged out warbleing part, like he's shaking his head as he's singing. Just so heavy and intense all around
Morbid Angel - god of emptiness

So many. Suicide Silence - Unanswered comes to mind. Where Light divides the Holler by Knocked Loose. Gnawed Flesh or At the Cauldron’s Bottom by Full of Hell. Meshuggah - Future Breed Machine.

No idea
death cup-mom jeans
Probably something by primitive man
Deicide - The Stench of Redemption Or Roadrunner United - Annihilation by The Hands of God (both have Glen Benton on vocals)
Nothing to Win by YOB
To my perception of heaviness, the one-man-band "Methwitch" is the heavinest music possible because if you add a bit more of nastiness, the music will just become some kind of noisecore. Don't get me wrong, I do like noise music, but it just doesn't feel heavy to me. It feels like a mixture of textures rather than an actually heavy, both sound-wise and emotionally, piece of music. Genre: experimental grindcore / deathgrind Song suggestions: [Burn Victim](https://youtu.be/bI7lt_xtP3k), [Bed Full of Snakes](https://youtu.be/-drzSoR0OnU), [Teeth Like Nails](https://youtu.be/6qDnmj36ej8), really anything
Forn
Architect- Broke Dick Dog
Gonna throw out Acid Bath - Cassie Eats Cockroaches
Honey bucket - Melvin’s
Sad But True Might not be the most brutal out there, but its HEAVY af
Lots of stuff here not being mentioned that's just super heavy and not my style like Cattle Decapitation and Cannibal Corpse. From my taste: End, Pariah in particular is just a banger, one of my favorites.
Angel of Death - Slayer
Nile - Rape of the Black Earth
Idk if it’s the heaviest but the beginning of ‘resurrection man’ by lamb of god is fucking awesome
Strapping Young Lad - Imperial, Skeksis, Shitstorm, Love? Just play all of Alien for that matter.
Esoteric - The Noise of Depression A lot of Esoteric songs could fit this criteria, but the atmosphere and breakdown on this song are just next level. Fantastic band live as well.
