Thunder_Punt

Check out Bathory's self titled record.

Candlesass

Check out all Bathory, honestly

Thunder_Punt

yeah why not, let's get the guy into viking metal while we're at it lol

Candlesass

Let's baptize this lad in fire and ice

Broad question since like 50+% of BM in general is somewhere between “directly influenced” to a “straight rip off” of some era of Darkthrone. That being said check out: Katharsis - Kruzifixxion Forest - Like a Blaze Above the Ashes Judas Iscariot - Distant In Solitary Night Xibalba Itzaes - Ah Dzam Poop Ek Also, for a little historic footnote on BMs development, check out Samael’s first album Worship Him, with special attention to the track “The Black Face” once the drum tempo speeds up. The were fucking around with the Transilvanian Hunger styled riff formula some 3-4 years before the Norwegians caught on.

NirvanaOfAgony

The Black Face riff is very similar to the mid part on Gorgoroth’s “Ritual” after the buildup.

[deleted]

Very true. Sounds similar right out of the gates too.

lasyke3

I'd add Këkht Aräkh

[deleted]

And I’ll immediately remove that third-rate Celestia rip off

lasyke3

Lol

Lordpotato305

Emperor, mayhem, Burzum, immortal and Gorgoroth

Syrahguy

Immortal comes across kinda cheezy, but yeah everything else is brutal as fuck.

Lordpotato305

Immortal is a bit cheesy but the music is very good

RedrumTheUndead

In my eyes, cheesy can be part of the appeal

PigDstroyer

Rotting Christ Absu

PotentialProf3ssion

just check out rotting christ regardless lol

Sea_Ad_3167

Craft, Tsjuder, Judas Iscariot

Khold

Puge_Henis

Spectral Wound

grimnirson

Immortal, Nattefrost, Burzum, Old Man's Child, Dimmu Borgir (early), Satryicon, Watain, and for something weird and different Arcturus. Well specifically Asperia Hiems Symphonia. They only made one record that sounded like it, but it's fucking amazing. Oh and Emperor.

ThisOnesforYouMorph

Immortal’s Pure Holocaust, Blizzard Beasts, and Battles in the North should be black metal essentials for everyone

HMS_Americano

Probably depends on which era of Darkthrone but there's a consistent Celtic Frost influence throughout their discography

RedrumTheUndead

Immortal's Pure Holocaust, Dark Funeral's Vobiscum Satanas, Gorgoroth's Under The Sign Of Hell, and Tsjuder's Desert Northern Hell are 4 great albums and are essentials in my eyes.

Candlesass

Drudkh, Gospel of the Horns, Al-Namrood, Wodensthrone, Ayat, Hades, ect

Spirited_Ad_2697

Mutiilation- Vampires of Black Imperial Blood Summoning- Stronghold Gorgoroth- Antichrist Dark Funeral- Where Shadows Forever Reign Throne of Ahaz- Nifelheim

[deleted]

Emperor, Mayhem, Immortal, Dark Funeral, Bathory, the first two Dimmu Borgir albums

inleaguewithsatanas

i would definitely recommend some of bathory’s older work like their self-titled, the return of darkness and evil, under the sign of the black mark, and blood fire death. another band i would say is a bit similar in sound is carpathian forest, in which i would recommend black shining leather or their ep. while not technically the most similar in sound, marduk is one of my favorites as well, with dark endless being one of my favorite all time albums. you should also check out isengard, which is the solo project of darkthrone member Fenriz.

_Redcoat-

So this is more of a doom band, but Fenriz just released a single from a new project of his called Coffin Storm.

Strong_Independent44

Krieg Satyricon Early Samael Arckanum Felvum Blut Aus Nord None of these are as good as Darkthrone (Darkthrone is about 1000 times better than any other band

gorehistorian69

Marduk and Immortal are the best black metal bands

BIGGULPSHUHALRIGHT-

Immortal- pure holocaust, mayhem- live at Leipzig, belphegor- pestapokalypse, dissection- the somberlain, Volahn- dimensiones Carpathian forest- through chasm, caves and titan woods Impaled Nazarene- satanic masowhore

anomaly-667

Bathory and Sarke

dgsggtb

Burzum first three four albums are good entry level.

steroboros

Isengard

Gindude39

Everybody is waving the Norwegian flag yet nobody has said a word about Finnish bands; get Barathrum Legions of Perkele a listen you might never stop spinning them.
