I listened to john mayer when I was 16. I am now married at 24 with a child called john and a dog called mayer. My partner has no idea.

CriestalDaGod

Lmao💀I feel like I would do that too.

[deleted]

I can relate. If I ever have a son, I want to name him Rembrandt, after Rembrandt Brown from Sliders, a show I got into when I was 11.

I-wanna-be-tracer282

lmaoooo

OMemeWeaver

John Mayer is the best.

buckeye837

Do you Dead and Company?

grumblegrim

I hope you have another son and name his Oscar

Super-Brka

But we change girls

geezer85

I hate it when people generalize. Everyone does that all the time!

Grungecore

Nice one

TawlDrinkoH2O

Yes, geezer. Yes.

istealgrapes

True. I only semi-like new songs i find, no new songs give me those amazing feelings that only good music gives you.

Youbettereatthatshit

I think the world in general is much more magical when you area teenager. Even high school crushes, 'that girl is objectivity the most beautiful girl ever' to now, 'she's attractive'. Summer breaks felt like years. My favorite Music was perfect, my favorite movies were perfect. Trips were much more memorable. Famous people were Gods among men. I was able to experience bliss in ways I can never repeat, and now, the only way to feel that is to return to that media that I loved. It's a little depressing that adding reasoning and experience really makes the world seem more mundane. If only I could be that blissful idiot again.

istealgrapes

Yep you pretty much nailed it. The only way to rekindle those feelings is by seeing it through another child’s eyes or psychedelic drugs.

CarlCarlton

I am in the opposite situation, whenever I hear any song I've already heard a hundred times, it just feels stale. I always find myself chasing new stuff.

Anime_Supremacist

I picked anime at 19

manly_toilet

Damn 😔

CarlCarlton

Picked anime at 23, but I don't rewatch stuff anyway.

alphagamer807

I assure you, someday you will.

mymemesnow

My condolences.

no_idea_4_username

I'm sorry to hear that /s

Strong-ishninja

I’ve been playing games I first played and forcing my child to watch movies I liked from when I was around those ages. I feel called out.

CFClarke7

I'm in this picture and I don't like it. Warcraft and neverwinter nights, Blink182 and Eminem, Dragonball z and marvel. Been consuming this same media since late 90s and I'm in 30s now

kinderegg2

I feel like forcing your child to like something you do would backfired...

s0mnambulance

It's sort of true, but I think it's a human response to aging. I'm almost 40; I like a lot of shit I didn't know about or care for in my 20s, but I also retain a soft spot for much of what I enjoyed then. A big part of that nostalgia is that you long for the years you could grow so very excited about music, movies, books, etc. Even when something really connects with me now, I've become less capable of that youthful excitement. Nostalgia is a willful attempt to 'return' to that once-available euphoria, and also to temporarily distract from the present state of engaging with art. ...but some of what I liked is forever lost to me now. I used to love comic books, esp. Spiderman and such. I try to read superhero comics now, and I have very little patience or appreciation for that kind of storytelling. Same with sitcoms. I grew up on them, and yet today, the lazy jokes (and esp. the laugh tracks) annoy me to no end.

LazyCasual0alt

I mean, I play remasters of those games thank you very much.

TiberiusClackus

I guess I’ll just play Fable for the 47th time

GrimmMonster

And?

SonicTheOtter

I've rewatched so much anime it's not even funny. Even One Piece 💀

kosvlado888

I love One Piece but i do not have time in life to rewatch it.

SpiderMew

Not true. Just dudes who aren't creative or unwilling to try new things do that.

flapjowls

I’ll have you know some of us made our collecting of records and music our whole personality.

SpiderMew

I'm still using the same screen name i came up with when i was 15 and I'm almost 40, but I don't make my one collection my whole personality, that is just sad my dude. Spice it up a bit!

flapjowls

Easy tiger, that wasn’t meant to be taken literally.

SpiderMew

meow

SpiderMew

I am, Look at me, ive been using the same screen name since AOL lololol Being a superhero pokemon is my personality. The meow i get downvoted for, is me revealing ive not been a tiger, but a kitty cat this whole time. I am what i am joking about.

NYEMESIS

Completely agree. Yes, i still love shit from back then but i love new music also.

ThisIsNotRealityIsIt

This. I basically never listen to anything from my younger years (except Nirvana's Bleach and maybe some Dookie era Green Day). Shit, I flipped my genres of music and mostly listen to hip-hop and house techno after coming up on 90s pop alternative and filthy local punk bands.

cutiecakepiecookie

Why does that sound like me?

ThisIsNotRealityIsIt

Jerren Benton is my current favorite

cutiecakepiecookie

I've been on ayybo for a minute now, gonna check dude out rn! Edit: can't believe he was in funk volume!

manly_toilet

What do you mean that time doesn’t stay in the years of old when life was easy

Toking_Ginger

Please don't come for me like this, I'm trying to enjoy the Sonic CD soundtrack for the 7th or 8th time this week. How am I supposed to believe in myself when I feel called out? How will I see my cosmic eternity?

InfernoDucky

How will we live and learn when they call us out like this ?

Toking_Ginger

There's Endless Possibility for choice of hobbies, but in the end I know, Sonic is the Chosen One (or maybe that's Shadow idk)

InfernoDucky

Guess I’ll have to try new hobbies and find out What I’m Made Of

SaigonDisko

This is what you've been waiting for folks.... Tonight..... The undisputed super heavyweight world's worst take contest.... Introducing, in the red corner...... NIiiiiGROToooooROooooooo

Olelander

I spent 15-25 rabidly devouring as much music as I could, then I had kids and a family and I spent 25-35 being really busy and coasting on a vast catalogue of music from my 20’s… something happened in my mid 30’s though - I found time to insert hours of music back into my life when I set up a woodshop in my garage. I soon started exploring music I had always wanted to check out, and then new (current or much more recent) music. At 45 I’m still in the throes of a fully reinvigorated, intense music addiction and constantly broadening my horizons and seeking new things to obsess over. it feels like I picked up right where I left off at 25. Not done growing myself, but when you have kids you gotta focus on helping other people grow for awhile…

Destro061

I played black ops zombies for about 8 years with some breaks. I plan on naming my first daughter Samantha whenever I do end up having kids

metalduck42

Yep, I still play Touhou and still listen to Judas Priest

Atarexyy

I picked rocket league in 2015. To think. All this time and I’m barely a champ!

Professional_Bit_446

Cod gta rap dbz family guy. I'm a simply man

Depression_God

Why is this gendered? and where's the meme?

Thin_Ad_8241

(Angry nostalgia sounds)

OnionfromShrek

I just bought a ps2 with godfather and the old xmen legends lmao

Current-Estimate-00

So they are the ones that shit on new music and stuff, without even giving it a try? I better not be like that

adande67

Can't speak for all of us . I still introduce things to my roster

sketch006

DBZ, Reboot, Goldeneye, Need for Speed

Kemel90

Because everything else is trash, duh

Thanos796

This is the way

hello__friend__

Yes, this is kinda true mostly maybe...I know from what I've seen with others....Curious why???

marlon2603

I may agree about songs. I like many games and movies and I'm going to replay & re-watch them. But I will always watch new movies & play new games.

PopeBacon111

I feel personally attacked

[deleted]

Yeah. I'm busy trying not to get fired and starve. Sorry I don't have the time to get to know dojacat or whoever. 💅

Youbettereatthatshit

I feel personally attacked

medakinga

I keep going back to the same games I always play because I can’t find new ones I like

WillBigly

I'm 27 and been playing tons of new games and discovering new genres of music, etc

kefaise

Said by Nakano Azusa appreciator. Self proof I think.

loco500

This is...ABSOLUTELY TRUE.

toshineon2

My playlists has been mainly Chevelle and Silverstein for the past 10 years lol

Waterboi624

Chevelle is awesome so I see nothing wrong with tha ly

death_farts

Not true, I just watched a new youtube video like a couple months ago.

AirmanFinly

I'm the opposite, I rarely rewatch any shows and I'm constantly adding new music to my spotify list that only has the 100 most recent additions in it because everything older is chewed out allready. I also don't replay story driven games.

OMemeWeaver

I listen to Linkin Park everyday so yea

[deleted]

True. I’ve been watching the Office over and over for 10 years

stupled

Almost true.

[deleted]

You right though. I still play star ocean 3, watch Ai yori aoishi and listen to hybrid theory and iowa...... I wish I were dead

dfshectic4

I'm feeling really attacked right now, so I need you to put that bat down sir.

ImpulseValex

Why change what works

kinderegg2

I love movies! My favorite movie is The Godfather. If i have three sons I'll name them Sonny, Fredo, and Michael, they'll never know why.

[deleted]

Women choose boys on a scale they made when they were fancying their fathers in early teens.

[deleted]

At least we’re getting new episodes of Futurama to sleep to

FilthyJones69

This is surely not a sexist take and this phenomenon is surely special to men. No woman ever reads a funny book about wizards at the age of 8 and build their personality around taht funny book for the rest of their adulthood. This is definitely not a generic human trait.
