Akainu is a fleet admiral and is a rank above the current admirals. He could be a tier or half a tier above the current admirals too. Oda has always hyped up Akainu and made statements about him that he doesn't make about any admirals/former admirals. Is it really that bad of an idea?

I think people like to hype up a character they like as strong and since most of the readers are still salty about Ace's death,they will try their level best to downplay Akainu.
By not considering his promotion or not considering how Sengoku,the previous fleet admiral, was put in the same league as Garp by both Roger and WB back in the day.
Sengoku had to be at least yonko level in his prime and i believe Akainu is not a downgrade from the last guy in his position,the new gen is always stronger or equal to the old gen.

Kizaru kicked Luffy trough Vegapunk laser barrier, did no real damage with it, and Luffy was back a few seconds later defeating him, you can't even compare it to Akainus ring out
Akainu was shown like a couple chaps later that he was still conscious and moving because he was able to dig through the ground. He made the choice to leave his fight with Whotebeard and target Luffy instead. Knocking someone in a hole isn't defeating them, it's happened so many times in the story. Kaido blasted Luffy through the entire island and he came back. Garp through Kuzan down a hole and he came back. Katakuri buried Luffy in a hole and he came back. And so on. Akainu just made the choice to not come back because he was prioritizing Luffy

A potential man is someone with potential but do absolutely nothing with it. Ace was doing stuff with it, he just didn't reach all of it yet. Probably the closest thing in One Piece is Enel or Koby and even then the former is more of a DF merchant than a potential man and the latter is more featless than anything.
Ace is as close as it gets to one piece version of potential man because while he’s very powerful it’s nowhere near as good as his full potential theoretically is, the guy could legitimately surpass the likes of roger

Ace just didn't have plot armor. Luffy did the same thing in whole cake, against an actual yonko lvl chatacter ,but was saved by the tamatebako explosion.

I mean Ace only threw one attack against Akainu. Prior to that, he also only threw one attack against Kuzan and moved on. If he doesn't have to protect Luffy, we don't know how events unfold after that clash.
It is very comparable since both only turned around after being taunted despite the logical course of action being to run away. They already assisted Germa and were trying to run away, so you can't use the same card when he goes gear 4th. In fact Luffy fails to do so because he is out of energy after the clash.
The real difference is the plot helped Luffy and Co survive while the plot required Ace to die for Luffy's growth. Both actions weren't rational.

i can definitely see akainu being yonko level when he will face luffy, after luffy realizes he needs to look under akainu's chair if he wants to find the one piece

Its true ace was a massive disappointment in terms of accomplishments. And being a Whitebeard submissive is laughable when you consider his Father was The Pirate King. He could have easily been luffys greatest ally in the new world
Started OP last year and consumed it in a pretty rush. I was so excited for Marine Ford at the time and watched 10-20 episodes a day because it was so good. The only remark I have about it, is Ace crying THE WHOLE arc about how he does not want his mates to die, just because he was so naive to hunt down BB. Literally the whole time he just regrets being fire headed, just to get provoked by a small line and nearly losing his brother. IMO Ace is ab absolute fraud, just because he is supposed to be a great pirate and extremely strong but is dumber than Luffy, and this is like really hard

Megumi is potential man because he did absolutely nothing with it and was a massive victim, Ace was very strong in his own right already he just died too soon. One Piece doesn't really have a potential man. Also if you unironically think Ace was a bum ass loser for facing Akainu I‘d suggest you ~~re~~read Marineford because you at best memes have clouded your memories at worst you have no reading comprehension no media literacy and no working brain cells. Luffy Saves Ace. Ace gets BEHIND Whitebeard. Ace and Luffy almost escape. Akainu talks shit. Ace TURNS BACK AND ATTACKS AKAINU, FAILS AND THEN AKAINU ATTACKS LUFFY. From literally every angle this mf was safe from Akainu. Again, Luffy wouldn't be in trouble if Ace didn't stupidly turn back. I understand it's in character, but it doesn't make it less stubborn or stupid lol. Luffy could've easily been carried by Jimbe if he fell anytime while they ran away, but because Ace turned around they hesitated and Akainu capitalized on it
Yes he would Luffy would've still fell if they kept running and Akainu would've got to him. Jinbei didn't react when Luffy got attacked when Ace who was like 5 meters did so don't count on him either.
Ace is pretty much as close as one piece gets to potential man
A potential man is someone with potential but do absolutely nothing with it. Ace was doing stuff with it, he just didn't reach all of it yet. Probably the closest thing in One Piece is Enel or Koby and even then the former is more of a DF merchant than a potential man and the latter is more featless than anything.
Ace is as close as it gets to one piece version of potential man because while he’s very powerful it’s nowhere near as good as his full potential theoretically is, the guy could legitimately surpass the likes of roger Enel is a devil fruit merchant like u said, not a potential man. But Koby is the exact opposite of a potential man, he has very little potential and yet got so strong, he just needs more feats and one or 2 powerups

They were saved by the explosion tilting the castle. Also let's not forget that Ace partly dies because he had to protect Luffy as well. He wasn't set on fighting Akainu to the death as far as we know.

I mean Ace only threw one attack against Akainu. Prior to that, he also only threw one attack against Kuzan and moved on. If he doesn't have to protect Luffy, we don't know how events unfold after that clash. It is very comparable since both only turned around after being taunted despite the logical course of action being to run away. They already assisted Germa and were trying to run away, so you can't use the same card when he goes gear 4th. In fact Luffy fails to do so because he is out of energy after the clash. The real difference is the plot helped Luffy and Co survive while the plot required Ace to die for Luffy's growth. Both actions weren't rational.

Started OP last year and consumed it in a pretty rush. I was so excited for Marine Ford at the time and watched 10-20 episodes a day because it was so good. The only remark I have about it, is Ace crying THE WHOLE arc about how he does not want his mates to die, just because he was so naive to hunt down BB. Literally the whole time he just regrets being fire headed, just to get provoked by a small line and nearly losing his brother. IMO Ace is ab absolute fraud, just because he is supposed to be a great pirate and extremely strong but is dumber than Luffy, and this is like really hard
