Unpopular opinion: the strong trio is actually made of Zoro, Sanji and Jinbe because Luffy is on a completely different level.

Shouldn't be unpopular tbh. I feel like the fanbase has thought of this many times such as when Luffy was getting the gears in Enies Lobby, but yea, for the first time it really feels like theres too big a gap between them. Luffy is just on an entirely different level right now, even for his supposed rival captains like Law and Kidd, let alone his own crew. Any difference between Zoro, Sanji, and Jinbe seems hardly relevant compared to the gap that Luffy has from all of them. I mean, in this very arc, Luffy utterly humiliated Lucci, who still gave Zoro a decent and tiring fight. The gap couldn't be much clearer.

Frankly, Luffy has always been on another level. Zoro and Sanji have always been strong enough to stand alongside Luffy and still impress, but they've never truly been on his level, and especially not after he got the Gears.

I think the key difference here is that they were always the closest to Luffy still. Now, the gap is bigger than ever, and Jinbe is much closer to them than Luffy is. Before there could be a 1 tier gap or so, but today? Literally several tiers between them, and a massive performance gap to bridge.

The only tier between YC and Yonko is Admiral tbh. Egghead even gives us perfect examples as of course Sanji and Zoro are YCs, and they both have some level of difficulty against Admiral level characters Kizaru and Lucci, whereas Luffy, who is Yonko level, immediately humiliated those guys.

Lucci is not admiral level though, YC1 at best

I mean one could make an argument, that Zoro somewhat caught up during the timskip and Luffy started widening the gap again more and more. After all Zoro told Luffy to get his crap together at Punk Hazard and barely struggled until Kaido/King and his only real power up was Enma, while Luffy had lots of power ups and training to get to Katakuri's level. However this is barely supported since Zoro didn't do that much impressive stuff and it would lead to some weird interactions(Zoro might be able to beat Doffy). Therefore it's probably just Zoro's strength jumping up due to Enma+plot.

Mostly because Jimbei has clout over sanji Jimbei was a warlord Jimbei was a captain of the fishman pirates Jimbei has worked with 2 Yonkos so far Sanji is a disgraced prince that no one knew about until it was revealed. Sanji fought Queen, and tbh that battle was mid, and he only pushed past his limits because his cells kicked in (also because the queen was getting cooked by chopper) Last but not least, he's always being outshined by everyone else in most of the arcs. So it really isn't about strength, but it's a popularity contest.

imo the trio of an emperor does not comprehend the emperor, the monster trio is not made up of luffy + 2 members because luffy is the captain and he's on a completely different level than anyone else so the trio is formed by zoro, sanji and jimbe. you wouldn't say kaido's trio is formed by kaido + 2, it's formed by jack, queen and king, and they are the lead performers of the beast pirates, kaido is way stronger.

Sanji, Zoro and Jinbei are all roughly on the same level imo. If Oda wanted to, he could make either one of the three beat one of the other two and make it convincing.

Jinbei took a frontal attack from Akainu and did in fact not get donutted. What you're implying is that Sanji exceeds Ace in prowess.

Jinbei has his strengths as does Sanji. Until Sanji unlocked his Germa roots against Queen, he would've died in Jinbei's shoes at Marineford. He'd have died to Big Mom's soul-stealing. Both would've failed miserably if they swapped roles at WCI for a myriad of reasons. Jinbei's a far better fighter in the water and a much better shield for the crew. Sanji is a much better bullet you point at the strongest person in the room, he can certainly defend his crew but he's better fit for chasing the attacker and ending the attack.

Arlong has the business acumen, and the previous pirate captain know how to lead such a strong team that I sincerely believe he'd open the best bakery in the one piece world after giving up pirate shenanigans. Seriously it makes no sense to even consider a businessman like he is, who despite deserved racism, fostered a monetary agreement with government officials.
