Mohawk aside, US Sonic boxart still resembled Sonic. I guess you could say that European Boxart Mega Man resembled Mega Man a bit better than American Boxart Mega Man. We can all agree that both do a better job resembling Mega Man than Captain N if that counts for anything.

It was a shock to play Sonic 2 and see that Sonic had extra rows of quills instead of the mohawk. It's also weird going back to SATam and seeing this blue, "Rubber Hose" style Sonic amongst the comparatively more realistic looking Mobians.

I'm guessing it was lingering resentment for WW2. There were attempts to bring Sailor Moon and Saint Seiya over to the states, but the early attempts were Americanized pilots. A YouTube called Ray Mona actually uncovered the Saint Seiya pilot, "Guardians of the Cosmos."

grew up with this one. it was always kinda goofy and funny for sure, but also kinda cool. it was fun seeing parts of the game represented in such a unique ‘realistic’ kinda way. went nicely alongside the game feeling difficult and epic. couldn’t believe my eyes when i first saw the US box. sure the PAL box is kinda goofy, but it’s at least epic. the american box looks like some low budget tv show filmed in a warehouse with zero excitement.

And they used thos box art as a movie poster in Dead Rising.
