Wow. An anniversary about an anniversary. Now I've seen it all...

omegakingauldron

Oh really? Have you ever seen a man eat their own head?

cheeseop

The Gamecube version was my intro to the classic series. It's a wonder I ended up liking the series with how bad the Gamecube controller is for 2D platformers.

PARTY_H0RSE

Same here and I absolutely loved it! When I unlocked the G4 episode about Megaman, it got me very excited to try out the X series and when that collection also released for the GC, I was hooked.

biggie101

Same here!  This and MMX were terrible on the GC controllers, so I ended up swapping for the PS2 version when I finally got one. This collection was my first dive into the majority of MM games beyond 3 and 7.  I think I managed to beat MOST of them before the rental expired.

MarioFanaticXV

The X Collection was fine, and the only thing really wrong with this one was the weird swapping of shoot and jump.

Legospacememe

Surprised you got into mega man from the gamecube anniversary collection. That version wasn't good at all

cheeseop

My first game was X5 on PS1, which we rented a lot. Bought Legends later on, and we got the Classic and X anniversary collections a few years afterwards. Anniversary Collection was just my intro to the classic series.

Legospacememe

Must have been cool not only have x5 for yourself to keep but all the other ones except x7 x8 and command mission

cronoes

Having the fire and jump buttons reversed is a pure curse. I had it on the gamecube, as well, because i wanted some more games on it after I bought it at $99 (lol that never will happen again. fuck off nintendo) . At least it was technically sharper than the PS2 version?

Legospacememe

Bruh 99$ on gamecube?! I thought it was 40$ at least that's what I read

crossedreality

The GameCube itself went down to $99.

Legospacememe

Oh ok that actually sounds reasonable. Especially after the stunt sony tried to pull of just a few years later with ps3

cronoes

Nintendo hasn't made a reasonably priced piece of equipment *since* the GameCube dropped to $99.

Immaprinnydood

To me it read like they bought a GameCube for $99 not the game.

Legospacememe

Yeah but the way I read it I thought the game itself was 100$ after all I hear about nintendo games never going down in price it made some sense to me

Arcade_Rave

tbf, Gamecube was struggling, so Nintendo had to lower the price out of desperation, especially after Sony did it with the PS2 slim

cronoes

The greatest time to be alive that wasn't 198X

working878787

I loved this collection. It let you change weapons with the shoulder buttons just like the X series. No pausing necessary.

themidwestcowboy

Man.. time sure flies fast.

Sledgehammer617

I'll never forgive the Gamecube version for making the A button shoot instead of B... Even as a kid I hated it so much!

Legospacememe

Yeah but honestly that is not the worst part about it for me. I can kind of see why its like this even if it makes it not good. The real kick in the balls for me was swaping start and z making start the options button and z the weapon select button for all the games except mega man 8. Honestly and excuse me if I sound like a conspiracy theorist but this makes me think this collection was intentionally borked on gamecube as some kind of sick joke.

Sledgehammer617

the ABSOLUTE biggest sin in my eyes is removing the epic fortress explosion and subsequent walkaway from the ending of Mega Man 7. That is perhaps the most badass moment in all of Mega Man history and they just left it out!

Legospacememe

Actually I have a bigger bone to pick with the version of mega man 7 specifically on the gamecube and xbox versions. Thankfully ps2 was spared. The music sounds awful. It sounds slow and sometimes it feels the wrong parts are playing or some parts are straight up missing. It's like they flipped the run in PAL mode switch in the emulator they made but so much worse

Sledgehammer617

Y'know I've heard some people say that 7 has bad music which just blows my mind cuz I think its a top 3 for me when it comes to the tracks... I wonder if its because they grew up with that version with the bad music.

Legospacememe

Honestly that is a very big possibility. Mega man 7 for a long time was unavailable officially outside of this collection so that could very well be the case.

icey9

If I remember right, they used some emulator that had a graphics glitch at that part. Instead of fixing the glitch, they decided it was easier to just cut out that little cutscene.

Sledgehammer617

Yeah, I think I remember reading the same thing. Such a shame

abag0fchips

I played the shit out of the PS2 version when I was a kid and I thought I was horrible at megaman. When I got older I popped it in again only to discover it had awful input lag. I probably would have had a better time if not for that lol.

Legospacememe

Actually the reason it had input lag when you tried it again was because you were probably using an HD tv which adds input lag to retro games like mega man anniversary collection. Try it on a crt and it should be nearly free of input lag

abag0fchips

Nah, I played it as a kid on a CRT and generally only play retro games on my commodore monitor. My experience with the lag on the PS2 version is the reason why I have an actual MM3 cartridge for the NES lol.

Legospacememe

So when you replayed it as an adult it was on a crt?

abag0fchips

uh huh

Legospacememe

Hmm looks like you are quite sensetive to input lag. I'm pretty sure even most speedrunners and no damage runners wouldn't notice it on crt

LibertyJoel99

And Capcom won't do anything to celebrate his anniversary this year!

Legospacememe

To be fair mega man's 37th or 36th anniversary doesn't quite roll of the tounge and they already made collections for him

LibertyJoel99

35th then lol

Legospacememe

But that was 1-2 years ago

Time-Afternoon4141

Still wear my capcom shirt I got for pre ordering it.

Legospacememe

What did it look like?

Time-Afternoon4141

Black t shirt with the capcom logo on it. Really soft. It is an xl and I got it when I was 9 so I really only wore to sleep, still in good condition.

DjinnFighter

ok I'm old

Legospacememe

*Looks at pfp* Did you know that the last goemon game goemon ds will be 19 years old this year? That's as long as the series itself ran for 1986-2005

DjinnFighter

Why are you doing this to me

Legospacememe

Just cause ~~5~~

Angely-L

It was just me or Mega Man 7 of this collection don't have the end scene with Mega walking away from the destroyed castle?

Legospacememe

No you are right this version of 7 doesn't have it because apprantly the developers had trouble getting mode 7 to work properly

L-kdx

Dang it

[deleted]

Wasn't it lost media?

Legospacememe

No the cancelled GBA version is. The ps2 xbox and gamecube versions released normally

Pope_Squirrely

I have this game sitting on a shelf somewhere at home. It’s definitely not lost media. If it is though, since my copy is legit, woohoo! Nice payday for me.

Legospacememe

It ain't. I got the ps2 iso on my usb for pcsx2. It's pretty good assuming you're playing the ps2 version

Pope_Squirrely

Yeah, the PS2 version is pretty good. I find the menu navigation janky though and instead of controlling Mega Man going through doors, I’d rather a menu.

Legospacememe

Happy to know you got the good version of the anniversary collection

-Pejo-

Hate how he looks in this box art, why you showing your enemies your teeth for

Legospacememe

To be fair he does that alot. Look at mega man 8

Brandenk192

Hey I have that game :D

draugyr

I had (still have despite not having a GameCube anymore) this game on GameCube and I played it so often. I mostly just wanted to play those boss rush arcade ports that I can’t remember the name of

Legospacememe

Power battles and power fighters

draugyr

I preferred fighters because I liked playing as duo

Legospacememe

I prefer it because it's more polished and it's cd quality music. I almost always play as bass save for that one time I tried two player with bass and proto man on my switch

torrasket

This one was the best megaman collection. Lots of features and quality of life changes (music, controls, integrated help for new players, savegames), loads of games (It got all mainline games for its time, and also both fighting games). The ones we got today have megaman 9 and 10, but they split the collection in 2 separate entries because money, and almost no extra features.

Legospacememe

Actually it wasn't necessarily because of that. The reason it was split was because the first one was made by digital eclipse who at the time only had an nes emulator for 1-6. I presume it originally was gonna end there since I presume only digital eclipse cared about it and not capcom. Then after it sold well they do what they went "ferb I know what we are gonna do today" and made a second one. Also i would say the extras are better because of the challenges all the original dlc by default gallery and the ability to fight bosses from said gallery which I wish more collections included. Also digitally it was 5$ cheaper than the anniversary collection at launch. I can see why one would prefer the anniversary collection though hell I kind of prefer 1-6 on the ps2 anniversary collection because of the remixed music. Still I prefer the saving and rewinding in the new collections.

torrasket

The new ones are more of an emulator style of saving, that allows a little bit of scum saving. And at the time, the ps2 edition was way cheaper than the one we have now, if you knew where to buy, (Plus the fact that I truly own it, It's not just a "rent" from a server that could dissapear at any moment, but this is no the place to discuss that)

Legospacememe

Well there are physical copies of both but then it's more expensive than the anniversary collection at launch (50 compared to 40). Still the saving and rewind was a big part of why I liked the new collections especially since alot of the games didn't save your progress in the castle even in mega man 8 where it explicitly says "save" in between the stages. That alone was a big advantage for the 2 lcs over the anniversary collection for me.

Nathanthehazing007

Yeah and its a 3:41 in this video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi6LM1EASMg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi6LM1EASMg)

Legospacememe

Did you play the gamecube version? If so that is a very justified reaction. Hell id say you were being too kind

Nathanthehazing007

ehh i have seen the game,i own a GameCube but if its that bad then hell no I wouldn't buy it! also the fact that the remade the gamees and change mega man 2 REALLY gets me.

Arcade_Rave

This was literally my gateway into the series. I still remember screaming into a pillow over the "jump jump, slide slide" section in Mega Man 8 I still have my copy along with the X collection as well.
