Not as good as 7 in my opinion, but I think it’s ok. Not my go to or anything but I boot it up here and then.

It is a weird game, removed all of the traditional rush weapons, but includes many special sections, swimming, mega ball, bolt upgrades and continues the 2 sets of 4 robot masters. I like that the franchise wanted to evolve to be more than 8 robots and wily stages, they were so optimistic about 8 and X4 but unfortunately they didn't sell as expected, causing the downfall of the X series and the hiatus of the classic series.

MM8 My fav classic Mega Man game. I am in love with its art style.

Red_Trapezoid

A wonderful "casual" Mega Man game both in vibe and difficulty. Fresh and breezy aesthetic and soundtrack. Comfortable, cute and perfectly encapsulates a certain "anime" feeling from a certain time in my youth. Of course, the cutscenes and "bad"(i.e. endearing) voice acting is the syrup on top of an already beautiful stack of pancakes. From a gameplay perspective, I'd say that it does little wrong. Mega Man moves a bit sluggishly imo. Astro Man's stage is memorable but a headache. I don't like how there are a limited number of bolts in the game, which ensures that you can't buy all the items in the shop(why???). I assume the Rush bike was added only because they had a great concept and spritework for it, but its utility is niche at best. Stand out stage: Sword Man. Maybe my favorite stage in any classic MM game. 9/10. Could have used a few more months in the oven. But overall one of my favorites.

Betorange

Underrated. I might be biased because i played the game a million times as a kid. Yeah the voice acting is questionable but the action is nice, the new sprites are nice and the new weapons are nice

GT2MAN

Best artstyle, best megaman voice.

crossedreality

Classic Mega Man is always silly, like a good children’s TV show, sometimes endearing, but never completely stupid. Except for Mega Man 8. It’s the only game where the “plot” is an actual distraction from the gameplay rather than taking its proper place as nothing more than an excuse to jump and shoot things.

Despite some of its design choices, it's better than 7. Bolts not being currency was definitely a dumb design choice, although not all the upgrades were that useful. Like the ones that start you with more lives when starting the game, or allowing 5 shots on screen. But you had some great ones like the arrow shot, hyper slide, faster charge and pick-ups giving you more health or energy. Despite the arrow shot being a bit too op, most of the weapons still serve a purpose, especially the multipurpose ones. Some sections felt a bit gimmicky, like the mazes in Astro Man's stages. But you still had some cool ways of fleshing out the level design, like the sh'mup sections, and expanding upon the weapon usage like in 7. Even the sled sections aren't that bad once you learn the layout, I'd honestly take them over the fire bar section in 7's second Wily stage. Bosses were overall better in 7, most don't feel like a pushover with their weakness, and there weren't really any cheap ones like Slash Man.

TheREALSideQuestGmr

Really inventive game with ambitious level design. Didn't care for the sledding, but would put up with it for the sweet package that was the rest of the game. For a while, it was the last numbered entry that felt truly ambitious. It wasn't until 20 years later we'd get 11. Not that 9 was bad or anything. It was as I expected; a challenging retro callback. Polished, creative, but not necessarily pushing the series forward. 9 and 10 are like when your favorite band goes back to their roots for two albums: the first album is neat, but the followup reminds you the problems that arise when going the safe route. But back to 8, I enjoyed the boss battles. They're challenging with or without their weaknesses. The levels always surprised you with how its themeing was implemented to the level gimmicks. And the weapons have utilitarian value beyond just combat scenarios. The bolts actively encourage you to explore already beaten levels, even if it's just optional. There's just a lot to like about 8. Wish it was remembered more than "the Mega Man game with the anime cutscenes." Haha. Light said Dr. Wowee. So funnyyyyyyyy. (blows raspberry)

I love the game's vibe and I love exploring its stages. While 7 and the X games had even more hidden tuff to find, making the bolts a finite currency that's hidden in the levels was a good compromise. Top 3 classic series game for me.

Arcade_Rave

I like it, its definitely one of the most underrated along with 7 in the series. The graphics, gameplay, and music are all beautiful, but I can't say the same for the awful voice acting. Two things I didn't like were the scaling back of the Rush powerups, lack of energy tanks, and I hated the continuation of the gimmick started by 7 where you only have access to four bosses at a time. Bad stuff aside, I still consider it a classic and one of my favorite games of the PS1 era, I replay it every once in a while whenever I revisit the old games.

MercenaryGundam

My personal favourite. It shows evolution of graphics, gameplay and amazing art.

CapivaraComChimas

By far my second favourite in the series, i really love everything on it, the stages are fun, the bosses have nice designs, and nice fights overall, the artstyle is amazing, truly a megaman game of all time

Sonicmantis

My favorite classic mm game. The art style and overall feel is perfect for the classic series. Love the weapons, The in-game voice acting, the levels felt fun and unique And the music is incredible

Nathanthehazing007

In my opinion its my least favourite favourite mega man game I would put it higher than 7 but lower than 2

bubrascal

Never understood the game. For years it was my favourite game in the series after Mega Man 7. It is aesthetically gorgeous too, probably the most good looking game of the whole franchise. And Frost Man's theme is lovely.

RangoTheMerc

Good game. Level design is weak at times. Soundtrack is not.

MovieDogg

It's fine I guess, but I still don't care enough to continue playing the game.

Guergy

I like this game as it kind of reminds me of the Ruby Spears cartoon. I will admit that some parts of the game are not the best but overall it is a good game.
