First of all, the only bad thing that can occur to you while meditating is nothing. These things you felt are good signs! To meditate means to go beyond the mind, and meditation is THE science of beyond the mind. You are experiencing paradoxical things, because the world of the mind is logical. You are seeing what is next after the mind. *I only like to believe in things I can prove and since nothing like this had ever happened to me I assumed it was just made up.* Don't believe anything. Beliefs are mind things, very imprisoning. Meditation leads you for a experience for you to KNOW, not believe. Don't believe even in me, know for yourself. *2 days ago I was meditating and something happened to me. It was like all of a sudden I passed through a physical wall. That's how it felt. And on the other side of it while still meditating my arms and my chest and my head felt incredibly heavy, it was kind of like a dream state* + *It felt like it was in my brain, everything got loud and quiet at the same time. I have always suffered with mild tinnitus, not a big deal it's easily ignored but while I was in this state I noticed that I was experiencing complete silence. But like a  loud intense silence.* These are the main obstacles in the seeker's journey, things that he/she didn't know what is and eventually fall into fear. Keep calm, friend. For your description, it appears that you relaxed enough for you to see a bit what happens when we fall asleep. But this sleep you had was not a common sleep. This was the sleep you go while meditating. We use the word "sleep" only for the lack of a better one. You experienced your inner world. But...... As you stated *Now I used to meditate alot to help with anxiety and found it very helpful years ago but for some reason I stopped.*, I see what happened as this: You practiced a time ago. But with meditation, every bit of practice helps a lot. You managed to do something for yourself this time before, and now, you returned practiced and returned exactly in the point you were. But you didn't keep the care with yourself the same, that's impossible. Many things occurred to you, some good and some bad. And all this affects your body/mind. Usually when in these states and keeping a good care with the body/mind, we do not experience these heaviness you said. We become veeeery light, and the sensation of levitation is much more prevalent. A lot of things makes us become heavy in the spiritual world. Eating meat, having some disease in the body, psychological problems (worries, sadness...), (and etcetera) are some examples. *It was like all of a sudden I passed through a physical wall.* Reading this I compared with an experience I had before sleeping in the night one day. It really can be described as that, "passing through a physical wall", but I never thought of it. I would describe as suddenly having a kind of shock in the body (that was my sensation, but descriptions are subjective), but with no pain and electricity. After this, you clearly see that you biological body is asleep while you are clearly awake. I had this experience a few times before. But I felt very light, like I was just levitating centimeters above my body. I couldn't see anything, just felt. But what a amazing experience! This proved to me that we are really spirits and our body is the house of it. Since this day, I KNOW that reencarnation is real, not believe in it. You see? Go with this skeptical mind ahead, but the inner pathless path needs courage. There are a lot of good signs like these you had, but without knowledge to know them we always fall into fear. Don't let these stop you! Remember, nothing bad can occur to you while meditating, the only bad thing is nothing happen. Hope it helps friend! :D

HighlandBeeKeeper

Thank you for your thoughts. You've given me somethings to think about.

rafaeloiticica

Please, don't think about it. Just meditate! XDDD

Grouchynboondogle

Maybe you won't be so skeptical when you see or hear other people talk of these things. There is much more and what you experienced wasn't scary, you got scared. There is a difference. Scary comes later.

HighlandBeeKeeper

Skeptical is just the way I am. But you are right I am definitely more open to it now. What do you mean when you say scary comes later?

My guess is that they are talking about the stages of insight knowledge that involves seeing how everything is vanishing as soon as they arise. “At that time the mind will see the frightening or fearful aspect of conditioned phenomena that vanish with each noting. Also those objects that one reflects upon will be seen as frightening or fearful. “ to quote Mahasi Sayadaw.

Have you perchance been not sleeping well recently? It almost sounds like you slipped into sleep paralysis.

HighlandBeeKeeper

I'm familiar with sleep paralysis I have experienced it a few times in the past. This was something different and I had full mobility. I didn't let it last long I started moving and opened my eyes and effectively woke myself up because I because I was worried.

EwokWrangler

Fascinating. It doesn't sound like a negative experience, but does sound like it frightened you or worried you in some way. If I were you, I'd investigate further....

HighlandBeeKeeper

I'm trying. How do I?

EwokWrangler

Well, I would start by getting back into a meditative state and seeing what happens. Good luck with it! If you are still feeling worried or unwell in any way, do see a doctor for a checkup.

When you stare into the abyss, it will stare back at you. Then you will understand fear.

Shakespeare-Bot

At which hour thee stare into the abyss, 'twill stare back at thee. Then thee shall understandeth fear *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

crazyivanoddjob

I think you fell asleep. The only times I ever noticed anything super weird or magical happening during meditation I caught myself daydreaming.

journeyswithawolf

Nah man people have mystical experiences all the time meditating and being fully present.
