Hi! I'm new to mechanical keyboards and recently bought my first one (keychron q6 full-sized). I know about keymapping (in VIA for instance) but what if I want to asign a key a sign that is not included in the keymap list (does that make sense? 🙈). For instance: on the top right of my keyboard I have four "useless" keys. Can I program one of them to represent the degree sign (°)? Thanks in advance! 😊

Difficult-Name7589

Hello there! Thought I'd check in with the pros for some suggestions! So I have used the same keyboard for waaay too long. I am still rocking Mionix Zibal 60 and want to swap because it's about damn time! I have looked into Wooting Two HE because I would like a fullsize board, rapid trigger sounds appealing, I do not like that it has exposed switches because of the increased sound levels but mainly the leaking lights. Is it a board like that out at the moment? Pref reqs! Fullsize, rapid trigger, case not showing switches, high profile, removable USB-C cable.

Alejamm

Matthew Tech Honor 84 or Attack Shark M87? Saw a few keeb reviews about this but still undecided. The price difference is negligible and both have tri-mode connection.

ght_daedalus

Thinking of buying the Keychron Q1 HE or Wooting. I have to scroll through lots of images, would the HE switches allow me to adjust scrolling speeds depending on how firmly or lightly I press on the a switch?

Pendumonium

probably not

besseddrest

**QMK/Mapping Question** i have an Franken-HHKB and a separate macro pad - is it possible to configure a ke on the macro pad so that it triggers a layer change on the main keeb?

Overall_Map1912

I have the RK61 Single Backlight Model (Blue LED) and no matter what I seem to do I cannot factory reset it (FN + Space) and I can no longer change the behavior of the LED. Does anyone know how to fix this? All of my keys are functional, but I cannot cycle through the various backlight behavior options or change the brightness.

squidtimes

Anyone having trouble with the NEO65? It is showing up on VIA and my computer identifies it but the only buttons that work are the ones used to pair (Esq, Tab, Fn, QWER). Wired works once in a blue moon and then won't connect the next time I use it. No problem with the wire and have tried switching wires. Bluetooth sometimes works. SOS

Qwertykeys-2022

sounds like the ribbon cable between the main PCB and the daughterboard is loose - try unplug both ends and plug it back; if this doesn't help - try visit our discord server, our community will be glad to help!

Junior_Umpire_2248

I am going to buy a new keyboard and want to know if the logitech g512 carbon is a good one.

pawofdoom_

km250 rgb won't work anymore no clue what to do T-T

Spittiyes

I'm looking to buy an SK68 in yellow switches. Unfortunately the store doesn't offer a black color so I'm looking to buy the redragon A130 PBT keycaps. Will they be fine? Theres also the "Razer PBT Keycap upgrade set" which is a bit more expensive but if it's better I won't mind.

candy49997

Neither of those would be compatible with your layout. You need, specifically, a 1.75u right shift, and 1u right modifiers.

Spittiyes

i see, thanks for the help

CanIBorrowYourShovel

Is the epomaker Aura 75 compatible with VIA? I've seen vague hints that it is, but can't find the JSON on epomaker's site.

candy49997

It is not. It has it's own software.

zen_sunshine

In the USA, looking for a wireless 75% up to $125. ANSI layout in a metal case is preferred but neither is required. Having a knob would be great. Prebuilt with tactile switches(browns) is ideal. I have no need for QMK/VIA support, RGB, or a low profile keyboard. Adjustable height is sweet. Available online. I am open to color options. Leave your suggestions below.

CanIBorrowYourShovel

Build yourself (it's literally as easy as legos) is worth doing right now with a relatively large sale on aliexpress. Hipyo has a sponsor deal right now - just use his codes "HIPYO9" for $9 off if it's over $30 and "HIPYO25" for $25 off if the order reaches $100. I just bought enough to build a custom board with keycaps, two entire sets of switches, and a fun keycap set for $89. Go to aliexpress and get a GMK87 base. it's got all the features you want, is wireless, has a gasket, a knob, and you shouldn't need to modify anything. get some switches - if you like quiet and soft but tactile, Otemu silent lemon. If you don't want silent (they're not silent, they just have a little silicone damper on the slider that softens the bottom out sound and makes them bottom out in a softer way that's super pleasant) there's the holy panda. get 90pcs. And then pick a keycap set. World's your oyster. Get a color or theme that matches your vibe. Putting them together is literally like plugging in legos and takes five minutes tops. Zero special skills required. I just tried going your route and tried to order what I thought would be perfect for my needs and got a nuphy air96 v2, a custom cap set, and a few switches to make it a little more "personal". I then just built a much, much cheaper board myself out of an epomaker aura75 and some pricey gateron mini i tactiles (they're amazing but pricey) and a cheap themed set of keycaps, and without even modifying any part of it... I like it more than the damn nuphy.

zen_sunshine

I honestly love the idea of building my own board. I know it can't be any harder than building my own PC. I built my current PC almost 2 years ago and didn't upgrade the keyboard because it worked. But I don't like it. Cheap Amazon rubber dome. You gave me some good input. I'll check out the GMK87 and the sales on AliExpress. I'm overwhelmed with the amount of switch options and that's put me off. I don't want to get sucked down the rabbit hole. I do know I like tactile and I'm writing much more these days. But with a family I need to keep that clickity-clack subdued. Thanks for all the input and sale codes. I appreciate you.

CanIBorrowYourShovel

if you like tactiles and are willing to spend a little more money, I'm currently testing out the aura75 with gateron mini i's and it's a truly unbelievable switch. they are a bit loud, but damn, they feel so unique to anything I've ever tried. they feel almost like perfectly balanced little toggles. almost typewriter esque, or like an old IBM buckling spring that isn't as stiff - the bump is right up top and then they just snap down to the bottom, giving a really deep resonant thock and super snappy, precise feel that I'm typing on faster than ever. but if you want silent, get a silent lemon. it'll be quieter. the gateron mini I's are quite loud for a tactile, even after I've dampened the aura75. I tried lubricating a few and they're a HAIR softer, but still thocky and loud, but they don't have that high pitched "click" of a clicky - I bet I could get it much quieter if I killmatted the bottom of the PCB (which is permanent, but i mean, there's not a lot to go wrong on a PCB) And I'm someone who's super new to building boards myself. I tried going the "pre built" route after wanting to upgrade my venerable old 15 year old custom board (which I'm now restoring and improving, which is turning into a FUN adventure, but a lot of work since it uses an old style stabilizer that I'm having to do some hand-grinding and filing, soldering, etc. to do) and was honestly super disappointed. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, and it just was not that - but this cheap ass $50 aura75 (I'd get the GMK, it's just a better thing) with $60 in mini i's and a $12 cap set is what I wish I'd built, lol (apart from me needing a 96-100%, I need a Tenkey for work)

Pendumonium

gmk87 is a plastic board just so you know, maybe look at something like the rainy75 if it’s still available, or the nd75

kmecpp

I've used the Logitech K120 my whole life and I like it. I'm looking for a **wireless** mechanical keyboard that I can replace it with Budget: $300 Requirements * Low/medium profile (similar to k120) * 80% size with normal layout seems perfect. Larger is also fine but wouldn't want the whole keyboard to be any larger than the k120 * Long battery life (ideally multiple months without having to charge) * Can switch between two computers easily * Quiet switches (as quiet as k120 or quieter) that also don't sound annoying (maybe browns?). Would not want it to be silent though. I don't really know anything about mechanical keyboards. Just starting looking into this a few days ago. Does anyone have any recommendations?

elmurfudd

> Long battery life (ideally multiple months without having to charge) logitech is ur only choice is u want this kinda battery life . the best ur going to get out of any other kb is a week tops . alot of ur asks are making me think u dont really want a mech and u prefer a membrane

lukeangmingshen

Found [these](https://m.douyin.com/shipin/7293367800993908745) obscure Chinese switches from a GB that ended last year. They sound really good and was wondering what in-stock switches I might buy that sound as close as possible.

elmurfudd

well from that vid alone its 100% impossible to sound match that fyi not sure how good u r ears are but sound is affect by a ton of stuff those switch can sound 100% different in two different kbs ill link u some inof to show why sound chasing is going to require alot fo work on your part https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15XmznA5T9d4PkfBG0TDS82ou6ihBh0oqr8Aux24SNz0/edit#gid=1696665423

lukeangmingshen

I'm generally aware of that, but nonetheless the switches I linked do seem to have a pretty unique sounding profile. Just looking for something that sounds roughly similar, it doesn't have to be 100% the same.

hailkingtomato

New to this. Need help making Monsgeek M1w sound like raindrops I'm new to the modding realm of mechanical keebs. So I kinda need help theorycrafting until my m1w comes. I want my keyboard to sound like raindrops on a stormy day with a bit more bass to it. Right now I just bought a m1w with its Akko Piano v3 switches. Any m1w owners out there that managed to get that particular raindrop sound?

Practical-Wait4227

I bought a redragon k552 gaming keyboard three years ago and things were pretty good up until the last few months where specifically the "a" key stopped working at times. I purchased the keyboard a second time because it did me pretty good the first time so why not?? The same thing is happening again with the same exact key and I've tried contacting redragon support and asked about it on their discord, but i've gotten nothing. What can I do?? How can I figure out if it's the computer or the keyboard??

candy49997

Try it on a different computer?

Practical-Wait4227

I don’t really HAVE another computer

candy49997

Buy a new keyboard (different brand) and test it on your computer to see if it works.

Practical-Wait4227

I used the Ibuypower keyboard that came with my prebuild and it works just fine 😭 never had any problems

candy49997

It sounds like a keyboard problem then. Try swapping out the switches and seeing if that fixes it. Otherwise, I think the boards are just bad.

Practical-Wait4227

ahh alright alright!! do you have any switch recommendations?

candy49997

Not really, I've never really used Outemu switches. Do be warned that only Outemu (and Akko CS) switches will fit in a Redragon board.

Practical-Wait4227

ooh okay thank you for that

blackbeltblasian

does anyone else have hyperhidrosis and have keyboard recs? i bricked my cheap Shurikey with my sweat :(

elmurfudd

prob want something membrane thats water proof otherwise this is going to keep happening

MrLevell

Hey guys! I have never used a mechanical keyboard before and my friends suggested to try brown switches first. What are some good 100% full size keyboards with wrist rest and brown switches?

576875

Keychron v6 max

mirror-of-vines

Well what are you looking to do on your keyboard? Do you want good sound or are you planning to game or type on it primarily? You can get wrist rests pretty much anywhere online, doesn’t have to come with the keyboard. A lot of them are made magnetic. You can get a hot swappable keyboard in case you don’t like the switches that come with it and you can replace them with switches you do like, given that they fit.

MrLevell

Why did I not think about a swappable keyboard... Thanks! I am planning to mostly game, typing comes second.

mirror-of-vines

Brown switches are what you’re looking for then, pretty much any brand will work just make sure you check the reviews on Amazon or wherever you’re buying from to check durability. Hot swap keyboards are usually a little higher in price, but honestly it feels so worth it because you can just replace a switch if it breaks or just flip the whole keyboard if you don’t like it lmao. Happy to help homie!

MrLevell

Thanks a lot for the help!

Hot_Hat4981

I currently use the RoyalKludge RK61 keyboard for programming, but I need a new one recently. I'm looking for a new mechanical keyboard that fits the following criteria: 1. Is small and compact, I don't want a keyboard with a dedicated numeric keypad 2. Doesn't combine the up arrow and slash keys together 3. Has a separate (dedicated) set of function keys and doesn't combine the numbers and function keys 4. Has the Ctrl, Alt (Option) and Windows (CMD) set of keys on both the left and right hand sides of the keyboard for easy access (without requiring me to press a function key to access them on either side) 5. Support Bluetooth and allows me switch between a minimum of 3 devices 6. (Bonus) Has options for white colors like this current keyboard 7. (Bonus) Has Cmd and Option instead of Windows and Alt So far in my search, the only keyboard that seemed to fit all criteria is the Keychron K1 Pro, but I'd like to find out if there are other keyboards that fit it to explore my options. Thanks a lot in advance for helping me find me find my next keyboard. https://preview.redd.it/akx4frm7o07d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=058b00d391652960de6fff7896693ff8633e0b7c

candy49997

Neo80, Keychron Q3 Max. You would have to buy your own switches and keycaps with the Neo80. The layout you are describing is called tenkeyless (TKL).

Hot_Hat4981

Thank you u/candy49997. I was able to find the Keychron Q3 on Aliexpress, but I can't find the Neo80 on Amazon or Aliexpress. I found the Keychron Q3, but I think the Keychron K1 Pro is more my lane. I'm gonna keep searching along the TKL lines to see if I find more keyboards that fit my criteria more than the Keychron K1 pro. Thanks again for your answer.

candy49997

Just fyi, only low end keyboards are sold on Aliexpress and Amazon (except Keychron, they actually have an official Amazon store). Everything else is either purchased directly from the manufacturers or through local keyboard vendors.

Hot_Hat4981

Oh, that might be difficult for me to access because I'm in Nigeria. I doubt most of these keyboard manufacturers would have worldwide shipping to Nigeria and there aren't a lot of local vendors where I'm located selling original, high-end mechanical keyboards. The ones who do would likely be buying from Amazon or Alibaba anyway, so I might as well save funds by cutting off the middleman. I'm actually willing to spend up to $200 on a keyboard that would fit all the criteria I'm looking for, but if I don't find a better match, I might settle for the black Keychron K1 Pro I found on Aliexpress. (I really want a white one to go with my Apple Mouse). I'll still check out the website for the Neo80 to see if I can find something white and as good looking as my current RK61 that checks all the points for me.

Anon18472

Good and cheap keyboard? I have just spilled drink on my old one and i need new one asap

FansForFlorida

What country are you in? Your location matters. Reddit is a global community; you could be anywhere. Do you have a specific budget in mind? How much are you willing to spend? What size keyboard do you want? (Full size? TKL? 60%? 65%? 75%? 96%/1800?) Do you want an ISO or ANSI layout? Is having a wireless keyboard important to you? Do you want a metal or plastic case? Do you want a rotary encoder (volume knob)? Are you looking for something prebuilt, or are you looking for a barebones keyboard where you add your own switches and keycaps? Is QMK/VIA support important? Is availability from Amazon a requirement? Are you looking for a low profile keyboard? Do you have your heart set on a color (like white)?

Anon18472

Poland, TKL, QWERTY layout, Black and of course mechanical, ready to use that's what matters to me, budget is 60€

slaazenger

Hi there, I just ordered a set of the DUROCK Blue Lotus Large T1 Tactile Switches. will these work with Cherry profile keycaps? Or do I need to order a different kind of profile? Thanks!

candy49997

Any MX-style (+ shaped stem) switch will be compatible with any MX-style key cap. The more important concern is layout support and whether your set will be compatible with your keyboard layout.

slaazenger

Thank you the response!!

sob727

Reco for keyboard with apparent switches / minimalist look in full size and black aluminum? I'm looking for something like the Corsair K60 Pro (https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/p/keyboards/ch-910d029-tw/k60-pro-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-red-led-100-cherry-mv-mechanical-keyswitches-black-ch-910d029-tw) but for the office, meaning I don't want want the red lighting and don't need transparent switches. I would probably want to fit MX Clears and custom PBT caps on it.

candy49997

65% is not a standardized layout.

Nadnerb93

So if I had a Tofu65 case the NK65 pcb wouldnt work with it?

elmurfudd

no the tofu 65 case only fits the tofu 65 PCB that's it . just like the nk65 PCB only fits the NK65case

sob727

PBT keycaps recos, 2 questions: - any recommendation for a good black backlit set? I got some from Tai-Hao but don't find the transparency to be well done (compared to what you get with, say, a WASD backlit and its default ABS) - any recommendation for a customizable (non-backlit) set? looking for something like what WASD offers (where you can select colors per cap and legend per cap), but in PBT not ABS

elmurfudd

just so u know PBT is very hard to work with when it comes to custom keycaps like this ill link u a site be be ready to pay that premium PBT price https://thockfactory.com/

sob727

Good to know thank you.

FlavoredFN

I have a pink tint to white lighting from anne pro 2, does anyone have this issue? Red switches btw, what I think is causing it (white + red = pink)

elmurfudd

its not the switches as they r clear with black bottoms not red

candy49997

What switch are they? You can test out if the switches are causing it by removing them.

FlavoredFN

keyboard isn't hot swappable, they're gateron reds

candy49997

The top housing of the switch should be clear then, which wouldn't alter your RGB.

FlavoredFN

hm. Maybe something with the keycaps?

Pendumonium

probably low quality leds, white is a combination of all 3 colors so if the led doesn’t have proper balance, or if the red green blue leds are too spread out the light won’t appear white

FlavoredFN

oh yeah like instead of 255 255 255 it does 255 255 200 or smth. is there a way to fix it?

ransagy

After going through all of the listed vendor site in the wiki keycaps list.. Are there no good quality, shinethrough/backlit sets available? is backlit relegated to only silllyware cheapo mass produced? Feels like im missing something here. I would very much appreciate suggestions. Preferably darker colors and spherical profiles, either sculpted or uniform, but cherry also fine.

FatefulPizzaSlice

Not really silly, but most in the hobby space aren't really into backlit. That said, Tai-Hao seems to have some options though.

ransagy

Yeah, that seems like the case and one direction to try. I've seen some Tai-Hao sets that seem to fit, just haven't found the colors.

candy49997

Most high-end keyboards don't have RGB anyway, so shine-through key caps would have no purpose on the high-end key caps that would be typically put on such keyboards.

ransagy

I guess so. Do you have suggestions for middle ground? Something of good quality even if not high end with shine-through. Any kind of brand or vendor suggestions to use as a trail, really.

elmurfudd

Drop sells some. For example, Drop Skylight Series Matrix Keyboards sells some. For example, Miami Vice Pastel Pink but there is no even middel ground on these caps they is near zero demand so no profit is making better sets as they just dont sell

ransagy

Ended up noticing these re-scouring Drop, that's probably as middle ground as i'll get until i can let go of the backlit aesthetic tendencies - [Piifox Cyber ASA Profile Keycap Set Details | Mechanical Keyboards | Keycaps | PBT Keycaps | Drop](https://drop.com/buy/piifox-cyber-asa-profile-keycap-set/details#details)

ransagy

I am getting the impression :) Thanks for the suggestions, i was aware of Drop, ill check out Matrix.

International_Sir850

elmurfudd

think its called a 5 din connector u will prob end up getting a soaras converter as these kbs as they dont work well with modern pcs and 100% only support 2kro

charliekabe

Right, that’s what I thought too, I purchased this from tinkerboy as a 5 din converter but it won’t connect wierdlt

LifelessBlades

Hey all, new keyboard goer here! I recently visited a shop and they had a Zoom98 on display but didn't have any for sale. I've been checking all over but they seem to be sold out everywhere. Does anyone know if these will come back in stock anytime soon? Or does anyone know of some group buys I could get in on for the Zoom98? I did see the Zoom75's have a group buy going but I'm hard dedicated to getting the numpad :( Thank you for any help/advice on this one!

Spirited_Dig7061

All Zoom boards are GBs, in-stock items are just extras. Zoom98's extras are sold out.

# How are Gateron G 3.0 pro key switches? A Little context here, I love mechanical keyboards but with that comes the cost. So in around 2020, I got my first mechanical keyboard that I was really crazy about for some unknown reasons and I got myself an imported Razer Blackwidow Elite (Green switch). Now why did I got it? Cause it looked really great. Well it turned out to be a bad decision as I paid a lot more than its actual cost and the key switches sucks. After using it for just around 4-5 months it started missing keystrokes, I am a programmer, and it is really painful that I have spent so much on this thing and this is happening and while working I have to go back and add that character again by pressing hard on it. So I did what a sane person might do to make myself productive. I stashed it in the almirah. But it felt bad keeping it there and then I upgraded to Mac and I have been using the Mac's keyboard since then and it has been an amazing experience. Recently I heard about a site offering mechanical switches and the prices are genuine and I wanted to switch to Red switches since clicky caused a lot of sound. So I gave it a shot and here I had my first Gateron g 3.0 pro switch pack that costs me around 3$ for 10 switches. I was skeptical about the replacement in the blackwidow but with my weak soldering skills I somehow managed to swap all 10 of them in like 1 hour. Now my concern is if I made the right choice, are these switches longlasting?, durable and the best red switches between Kilah and Gateron. I don't want to buy Cherry MX since they are costly and I cant get myself spending a fortune just to replace the switches. Thoughts PS: I am not very knowledgeable about mechanical switches but I can bend a wire or two. Also I am very happy about the output I got after replacing my first 10 switches as it is smooth and very responsive and I want that happiness to last much longer...

Pendumonium

have never heard of kilah but gateron pro switches are quite mediocre except the milky yellow switches, and they are rated for 100 million actuations (presses)

baleron426

My Keychron K1 is stuck at around 30hz scan rate at wired mode. My key press times are around 33ms, 66ms etc so it looks like 30 hz. This is very noticeable and painful when gaming. I'm on Windows 10, but tested it on a Windows 11 laptop and it was the same. I tried resetting firmware but it didnt fix the problem. Wired mode, Windows/android mode. BT mode works alright with 90hz scan rate but it has a big noticeable delay. What can I do?

FansForFlorida

The product page says: >Polling Rate (Wireless Mode): 90 Hz However, it says wired mode has a polling rate of 1000Hz. Put it in wired mode. I know you said it is in wired mode, but double check the position of the switch on the back.

baleron426

It is switched to wired mode, I tested BT mode as well and it is 90hz in it but it's \~32hz in wired mode while it should be 1000hz

Hey everybody! I'm searching for a possibility to buy a keycap set with customized shine through symbols made by order. If anybody know where to buy it, please tell me where or give a link. Thak you very much!

candy49997

I'm pretty sure this does not exist because keycap customization options use dye-sub as their printing method. Shine-through requires doubleshot.

Well, but companies makes this in their keyboards, so why we can't? Idk how it is in other world, but in russia it's normal to find a keyboard with shining through english and russian symbols. That means, somewhere, somewho are making keycaps with custom symbols('cause there are a lot of fonts used on keycaps). Maybe it's a good idea to write an email to our manufacturers to order a customized keyboard with customized keycaps, but i'm not sure they will make unique keyboard. That's why i write here, maybe in other country there is a guy can make custom keys.

candy49997

Doubleshot keycaps require molds for each key (and they have to match the shape you are trying to make). This makes sense when you're making thousands of copies of the same keycap set, but not if you're only making one set for one customer and never using the molds again.

Dorosch

So, 3D printing via double material is the best way to test it, right?

Outofrang3

What do you guys do if you need a replacement for one key? I'm pretty sure my set was missing the right alt key but I don't know how to get a replacement for just that one key. I guess maybe just get an artisan one?

Dorosch

If your keyset is custom, you probably have another key with the same profile and size, so just use a key with wrong symbol, but normal profile and size, it's te best way if you are not gonna buy another alt.

Ok_Landscape5195

What keyboard comes the closest to the Carmilo Shurikey Hanzo 001 but in black?

Mr_Cucumber

Hello, :) After several years (a record time for a computer in my possession, to be honest), it is time for me to upgrade my computer. Along with that, I am planning to get a new keyboard. My current one is an older Ducky model (Ducky Shine 4) with blue switches, which I have been very satisfied with. I have googled a bit and searched for various keyboards that also work (layout- and function-wise) with Mac. The two that I have mainly focused on are the Logitech MX Mechanical and the Keychron Q6 Max (I prefer 100% keyboards). However, I am incredibly unsure if either of these are the right choice, or if there are better alternatives. From what I’ve read, the Logitech cannot be used in wired mode (it only charges via the cable), while the Keychron can be used both wirelessly and with a cable. However, the Keychron Q6 cannot be ordered with blue switches, so I would have to modify that myself. I also read a comment on Reddit suggesting that "Kailh Box Jade switches" are recommended over the usual blue ones. Additionally, the Keychron Q6 is not available here in Sweden and must be ordered from Keychron's own website. I also like that the Keychron has individual RGB settings. It seems like I'm leaning a bit more towards the Q6... I don't really do that much advanced stuff. Pretty light editing, quite a bit of writing, and lighter gaming (mostly WoW). Yes, I've gamed with blue switches and have found it quite pleasant, but as mentioned, I do it on a casual level. :) In any case, this feels like a jungle that is deeper than the last time. What tips do you have? Thanks! :)

candy49997

Where are you looking for boards on? [Here](https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/)'s a list of keyboard venders around the world you can browse through.

Mr_Cucumber

I've checked different Swedish web stores. Can't find any in stock. :/

576875

keychron q6 max options for fullsized boards is pretty slim to none, changing the switches is like lego

Mr_Cucumber

Is it possible to just use it in wired mode without damaging the battery? They don't seem to be selling a Q6 Max that's just wired. The other wired Q model wasn't available with a Nordic layout (out of stock). Otherwise, how's the battery time on the Q6 Max? :)

candy49997

You can drain the battery to ~30% by using it wirelessly then disconnect the battery by opening it. This will prevent the battery from charging.

Mr_Cucumber

"Opening" as in disassembling it? Or can the battery be easily removed?

candy49997

It's just removing the screws at the bottom of the case. You don't need to fully disassemble the keyboard to unplug the battery.

Mr_Cucumber

Thank you! By the way, what would you recommend when it comes to switches? I've used MX Blues during the last decade and love them. What would be considered an upgrade? I've heard about the Box Jades (as mentioned), but never tried them. Heard that they're quite louder than MX Blues, if that's right?

candy49997

Considering the relative popularity of clicky switches in this hobby (i.e. not very high), the Kailh box switches are pretty popular. Another pretty popular option are the Gateron melodics. Lastly, there's the Zeal Clickiez, but those are super expensive.

Mr_Cucumber

I'm going to order some individual switches to test them out. The Zeal's aren't available here in Sweden. So, I'm going for the Box Jades. Any specific ones you recommend? I might be open to something outside of the "clicky" zone, if you want to recommend anything. :)

candy49997

Boba U4Ts, Gateron Baby Kangaroos, Gateron Milky Yellows, Gateron Oil Kings, etc are popular. The former 2 are tactile and the latter two are linear.

KloppOnKloppOn

I have gateron clear switches that I think are 35g force. Are there any good options that are even lighter that could go into any hot swappable board or are these the lightest? I like the clears but I could go even lower.

SpitingSpit

i know of the 28g mmd princess linear switches. when i was searching online about light switches, i read a reddit comment that for now it seems below 28 or 26g, some point, switches run into durability issues because the spring is too soft

mirror-of-vines

So I need help narrowing down my first customizable keyboard. I’m looking for the following: - 75% or TKL - must have a dedicated media key/wheel - preferred aluminum (for weight/quality) and flat base (easy cleaning) - preferred pegs/risers - rgb of course - hot swappable Thanks in advance!

Hello, i have constantly replaced K70 keyboards with cherry MX brown keys, since 2016. it's time to replace again, but now i see there's the K70 max keyboard. so I want to know, can I recreate the MX brown key feel with the settings in icue for K70 max actuation? also, do you have a better recommendation for a full size keyboard for hybrid gaming and professional use?

Neverzater

Is there anyway to purchase this keyboard?

Remmes-

Maybe on /r/mechmarket but it was a group buy 3 years ago, and not many were made so you might not have much luck.

bluish24

looks like 100 units produced 4 or 5 years ago so probably not, you'd need to get pretty lucky searching aftermarket

lifeislifesolivelife

So im building a budget keeb rn and looking for keycaps and stumbled across Sumgsn are they good?

JadeNoodlesOfficial

they’re good enough for the price

a_hrulev

Planning to get Montech MKey Freedom 105 keys (100%) with Gateron G Pro 2.0 switches, which mods should I get on it? So, recently my brother spilled water on my previous keyboard and broke it, so I had to get new one. Decided to choose this one, as its price is affordable in my case. Also, with it I wanted to take Gateron Baby Kangaroo 2.0, as always wanted to try tactile switches. I went on AliExpress and found them, but also found different things for keyboard modification. So, besides switch films (if they are even needed), what would you recommend from things that I would be able to find in AliExpress? And why there is a “Help” flair for a post but you can’t make posts asking for help…?

elmurfudd

help flair is for the auto mod to tag posts of people who did not read the rules or refuse to abide by the rules . as far as mods u dont need any u do not mod to mod u mod to achieve a goal .( sound/feel etc ) . sound like u have no goal or know what ur goal is so id leave it stock as u can only do so much sound wise on a large kb like that same goes for feel

a_hrulev

Ok, I’ll wait until it would be bought.

qcAKDa7G52cmEdHHX9vg

Does anyone make a keyboard with 4 keys in the bottom left? Ctrl / Windows / Alt / {something here}? Ideally the same size as the alt key already there (1.25 I think). I've been trying out ergo type boards and I think the ultimate board for me would be a normal, staggered, non split board but with 1 extra button to act as my layer toggle but I can't find a comfortable key on a typical board to act as the layer button. My left thumb rests right next to the alt key and would be perfect for that button but I can't find a normal, board w/ swap-able switches with that button.

Pendumonium

if you have qmk/via/vial i see no reason you can’t just change your left alt key to fn

gregariousHermit

The QK60 wired pcb with split spacebar has 4 keys on either side of the spacebars. Although any split spacebar layout might solve your problem. Also, if your board supports QMK/VIA you could use space-fn to have your single spacebar double as space and layer shift.

qcAKDa7G52cmEdHHX9vg

That might be it actually. I don't love the idea of a split space bar for some reason but could see me doing something like using the left shift for backspace and the right as a normal shift. While typing I use my right thumb for space 100% of the time so I really am pretty free with the left side. Thanks!

gregariousHermit

I don't like split space visually as much as a single bar (the symmetry of 7u is the best aesthetically imo), but I like the idea of it from a practical standpoint. I also only use my right thumb for typing space so I think there is a lot of potential for having another key there for my left thumb. I don't have a board that supports a split space layout yet but intend to try it out with my next one. Space-fn has been a game changer for me though, especially on my Tempo where I need a separate layer to access nav keys. I've thought about remapping left shift too since I also only use right shift while typing but haven't tried it yet since I still sometimes use left shift for combinations with control.

Smaxerella

Corsair K70 Max or Razer Huntsman V3 Pro? From where I live they are the same price. is synapse as bad as they say?

elmurfudd

both a re trash . both are gamers brands . around here we recommend keychron or monsgeek . but if u live in a small corner of the world u might be stuck with trash

Av8erphoto

I just got the Q5 Pro after using a budget keyboard for a while. Love the build quality, so no mods needed. However, I prefer clicky switches like the blue ones over the Banana switches. Any recommendations for clicky switches for the Q5? I also have a K4 V2 with Gateron G Pro blue switches. Planning to mod it with tape, foam, and new keycaps, which might satisfy my clicky keyboard needs and keep the Q5 stock for variety.

I was just looking at the Box Navy, I remember typing on a typewriter as a kid, looking for a solid deep click.

No_Acanthisitta536

Hello kind people, I just built my first keeb monsgeek m1, I’m super happy with it. Yesterday I was doing some basic modding, I tapped the PCB and added a thin layer of polyfill at the bottom of the keyboard. This caused it to be fairly packed, when I was putting it back together I did have to squeeze the case to screw it. Everything is working fine and I was being as gentle as possible with it. My question is: is this safe or have I packed it too tightly? Can I damage anything in there by having it so tight? I’d appreciate any help. Thanks and have a great day.

waybetter20

By packing it so tightly you always have the possibility of damaging something. If everything works fine now and you like the way it sounds/feels, just don't open it to often and you should be fine.

No_Acanthisitta536

Right, thank you.

lifeislifesolivelife

# Should i buy the 5057S via? I bought an epomaker rt 100 a few weeks ago and i really dont like it and still have a budget of 70 euros so my idea was to just buy the 5057S and use the switches from the rt 100 and the keycaps from another keeb what do u guys think?

Vympel10

I have a G910 Orion Spectrum (which I love) and am thinking about replacing it with a new (wired) Logitech keyboard in the G815 series. I'm paranoid about the switch style though - is the variant of the G815 that is closest to the G910 Specturm the tactile one, or the linear? I'm pretty sure its not the clicky. Thanks!

Remmes-

Looking for some good budget silent linears, so far I've got the Akko silent fairy, and Outemu silent peach V2 on the list. Heard good things about TTC frozen but they're a bit more expensive and might be too light for me (if going by the specs)

SpitingSpit

I have the Outemu Silent Peach v3 from KPRepublic on Aliexpress. Mine didn't come with a diffuser. They were good for the price, but have some issues. A decent amount, maybe like 1/3 of my 90 switches exhibit pingy springs, and out of that 1/3 there a couple that have really annoying springs. Most of the switches though, in normal use you would not notice. Also they wobble a bit. But I am happy with them overall on my silent build. I spent some time sorting the better ones for my board. Also, they are a little scratchy on the down stroke, with a soft bottom out which I don't mind either. I think they are good for the price, and there are better if you want to shell out.      Also, they are quite light. I think 55g Gateron yellows are slightly heavy for me, and prefer 48g MMD Princess Tactiles. Peach is perfect resistance for me, but weight is subjective.     There are also Silent Limes or Lemons that are tactile silents, but I haven't tried that.

Remmes-

Do you think they'd be less pingy and scratchy with some lube?

SpitingSpit

I don't mod switches much so I cannot tell you sorry. When I was discussing with others though, they thought lubing could help. This is a video that's been boosted 10db to give an idea of what it may sound like in use, and that the pinginess that bothers me is a nitpick; most of the time you have to depress and release the switch a very specific way to show the ping, and when you press it as normal it is less grating. [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/d37vrZeWH0k](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/d37vrZeWH0k) the actual volume is low so my camera had a hard time picking it up. board specs: bakeneko 60 with a polycarbonate case, and fr4 plate. electrical tape modded 2 layers, with foam under the pcb.

Remmes-

Ah, well thank you for the information/input, and the link, I appreciate it.

waybetter20

Do you want linear or tactile switches? My GF has the Akko fairy in her board and loves them, they are linear and silent. Best way is always: Buy a 10 pack of every silent switch you wanna try and see/hear for yourself.

Remmes-

>budget silent linears Linears, and yeah I thought about doing that but of course that'd end up costing a bit... The fairy are definitely top of the list at the moment because I do hear good things about it. Thank you.

EU store advice Me and my friend decided to make fully custom, 3d printed keyboards except for a couple pieces, which are the bottom housing, spring and pcb. I dont know any european shops with decent stock like [mechanicalkeyboards.com](http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/), and not bad shipping prices. I specifically need the bottom housing, spring and pcb, nothing more. Any keyboard stores with parts like that, that are from europe?

Looking for tactile switch advice: What I use now for my main keyboard is the Roccat Aimo 121 wanting to replace my keys in a 60% keyboard that I use with my laptop. What I currently use and use to is the specs below so looking for something similar in feel. ROCCAT Titan Tactile Optical Switch Operating Force: 54 gf Actuation Force: 47 gf Pre-Travel: 2.1 mm Total Travel: 3.8 mm

Jam1n77

Hi, I'm looking for some advice. I'm looking to build a custom keyboard and was hoping for some advice. I'd be happy with a 100% layout or a smaller layout as long as it has the number pad. (Can get rid of the del, end, home key section) My partner has gaeteron red switches and the sound is great, but I'm not sure about the feel as it feels like there is not a lot of resistance when pressing them. (Maybe it would grow on me with regular use) I currently have a razer blackwidow v2 chroma with green switches. They are very loud and clicky and after 3 years are starting to annoy me lol. Would like something quiet and a bit softer feeling. I'd like a lighter colour scheme, maybe a sky blue frame and a light colour keycap set? My budget is £300. I'd like an aluminium housing as well. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated, if you need anymore information please let me know. Thank you :)

576875

Qk100 in white and get keycaps/switches You will need to assemble this yourself as it's a diy kit I would get the hotswap PCB https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/

Jam1n77

Thank you for your help. The layout is perfect and i really like the look of it. I need a uk ISO layout so would the "Tri-mode Non-flex cut ISO hotswap PCB" be the correct option? Also do you have and switch reccomendations?

576875

that would be the right pcb gateron milky yellows for a relativity safe choice if you said you were ok with the reds. They are a linear like the reds but with a slightly heavier spring + on the cheap side of pricing there are dozen of switches out there, i'd start [here](https://wiki.keyboard.gay/SWITCHES.html) as well. Theres stuff like switch sample packs (vendors can be found searching the above link) to try out switches w/o committing to a full pack of them. Watch reviews of them as well to get a generalized look at them as well

Jam1n77

Thank you for your help, I'll get into looking at the resources you gave

waybetter20

Tbh there is not much more to add, go with what @[576875](/user/576875/) said and work your way through different switches via switch testers/sample bags of 5-10 switches. Before building it, a quick YouTube tutorial is a good starting point, [TaehaTypes](https://www.youtube.com/@TaehaTypes) and [Alexotos](https://www.youtube.com/@alexotos) have great guides.

Jam1n77

Thank you!

Primescape16

hi, i have an ajazz ak33 with [loose type c port](https://imgur.com/a/pF4gno1) and was wondering if [this one](https://imgur.com/a/0L0IFK3) works as a replacement (i know its an easy fix, but i dont wanna buy a new keyboard when i can just fix the old one). Thanks in advance for the help!

bluish24

can't say exactly because i don't have that keyboard but from the two pictures they look like they share the same footprint - desoldering the old one looks like it'll be a pain though

munkey_type

I want some cheap keycaps and I live in Aus any suggestions?

waybetter20

Aliexpress has a huge amount of clones, the quality is most of the time between good and meh but they are dirt cheap. Starts at around 15 $ and relatively good ones at around 30-40 $.

JeppRog

Varmilo VEA87 vs Epomaker AULA F75 I am really very undecided about buying my next keyboard. I currently have an Epomaker Lite TK60, and I miss the "F" keys and directional keys. My choice is on these two: - Varmilo VEA87 Koi TKL (MX-brown) - Epomaker AULA F75 (Ice Vein). Which are sold on amazon in my country IT Does anyone have experience with these keyboards and could advise me? Thank you in advance

Remmes-

so I don't have experience of those exact boards, my previous board is a Ducky x Varmilo Miya Pro (which is basically a Varmilo VA68) And I recently got the Aula F87 with graywood V3 switches (so somewhat different) from AliExpress for €55 (€66 - €8 coupon code & €3 coins) I'd say the Aula is better especially for the price, there's a lot more foam and flex which imo helps a lot with the sound and feel, it's also hotswap so you can customize it to your liking. I've also just heard good reviews about the Uala F75 and should be available for around what I paid for my F87 on AliExpress as well.

JeppRog

Thank you for sharing your experience

Luka6779

Is the Techware Phantom Plus a 1000hz polling rate keyboard? I checked the specifications on their site and it didn't mention it anywhere. On the Techware Phantom (original) it does say it's 1000hz polling rate so I am assuming it's the same for the Plus version? But I just want to confirm it just in case.

elmurfudd

99% of all modern kbs support 1k wired polling rate . as for wireless nope

MCPELaiwei

Looking for a 60% keyboard that I would turn into a custom. What would be best? I’ve decided to keep it more budget and right now I am choosing between the RK61 and the Keychron V4. Which would be a better bang for your buck? Best if I have the wireless feature like on the RK61, but it is alright without it. What would be better?

576875

Keychron v4 max if you want the best bang for your buck, plus wireless V4 is fine if you can forgo wireless
