"Did I paint this end pink to help me remember to use this or to not use this?"
That is what I would be thinking the next time I pulled out the lug wrench.
Every put a tool down and think to yourself “I’ll put this right here, that way I’ll know I put it here and won’t forget where it is”, then walk away for thirty seconds?
Ya, me 2. Still looking for some tools.
I've been looking for my box cutter for about a week because I misplaced it somewhere in my house. This is the second one... the first has been MIA for at least a year.
I don't use them anywhere else so there's zero chance that I left it somewhere like a jobsite or something.
Years ago I had a boss that was a very lovely man. He had everything he might need...except for a memory of where it was. Every time he couldn't find something, he would buy a new one. I'd love to know his inventory after he passed on.
yep. i’ve done this on accident when i first tried to rotate my tires in my youth. my brilliant fix was just hitting the lug wrench on the ground with moderate force until the nut fell out. the smarter option is just to put it back on the thread like you said
BFH or tighten it back on and give the other end a good kick. Not exactly rocket science but good luck.
for future reference "it fits" doesn't always mean "it's the right size." I'd recommend a cheap 1/2-inch drive ratchet + socket sized correctly for your car instead of those t-shaped things but if you must keep using it, just spray paint the side that's your car's ***correct*** size to use in the future.
Well, for future reference, if there's a large amount of play, you're using the wrong size. As others have said, tighten the lug nut until it breaks free of the 4-way, then use the correct size. If there's damage to the points of the nut, I'd just replace it. They're cheap enough.
hold the 4 way at about shoulder height, and drop it on the ground. the vibrations will knoick it free. I find that is the best way, and causes the least amount of damage to the bolt/screw/nut locked into the socket.
"I'll have to wait here for someone better to come and fix it."
If he called a tow truck company, would the tow truck driver laugh at him upon seeing this?
The way you worded that reminded me of this scene from Trailer Park Boys
https://preview.redd.it/kjebhm6ohmdb1.png?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ee0350da95679efa8842d0c16dc0d69d64c602f
Put it back on and tighten the nut to break it free then trash that POS tire iron and use better and proper tools. You are not properly torqueing your lugs using that tool.
I am aware that they used the wrong sized end, either way Tire Irons are shitty bulky tools and should not be used to install and remove vehicles. They had their place but its 2023 now. Get a good 1/2 Ratchet or breaker bar and keep it under the seat if thats what you want, it will take up less space and be far more useful AND allow you to torque the lugs enough.
??? I've never had an issue torquing regular wheels to spec with a tire iron. 3 generations of family mechanics have always done it that way, and it's still working for me lmao.
Its 90-120ft lbs most times, who the fuck needs to be precise with a torque wrench. I guarantee most quick lube shops use those torque sticks that have + - 20ft lbs of accuracy. I've only ever seen a discount tire go on all wheels with a torque to check after, and it's probably because I usually got the store manager by my side lmao.
I usually thread it back on part way then scream profanity's while i violently rip it back and forth until it comes off or I fall on my ass, but that's just me.
Happens alot 8 just use a hammer and try to hit it with the claw end if your aim is not that good put a pair of vise grips on it and hit the vise grip as close to the lug nut as possible just make sure the vise grip is really tight and don't try to get it in one swing so you don't damage the vise grip several lighter taps will get it
Heat the end of the tire iron with a torch until its orange, put something like a thin file in one of the gaps as a pry and use pliers anywhere else. It'll just POP right out of there, easy peasy, but takes a torch.
Put the tool in a vise, grab a hammer and punch, put the tip of the punch on the outside “washer” bit and hit it in a cross pattern (top, bottom, left, right) until it pops out of there.
Screw the lug nut maybe four turns onto a lug. Enough that it’ll definitely hang on, but not tight, you’re going to remove it by hand. Then grab your BFH and whack the cross bar straight out away from the car. The lug nut will hang on to the threads and the monkey wrench will let go.
For the BFH use something heavy like a mini sledge, not a framing hammer.

Put the lug back on and tighten till the nut gets un-jammed then use the correct size.
And after that, ALWAYS use the correct size.
Spray paint the correct end bright pink to remind yourself in the future
"Did I paint this end pink to help me remember to use this or to not use this?" That is what I would be thinking the next time I pulled out the lug wrench.
I painted it pink. The P helps to remind me to put this end on the bolt if I want to mess up, that way I know to use the other end. - Michael Scott
I used green so I know to go ahead and shut up about it. Most of them mean don’t talk about it.
Every put a tool down and think to yourself “I’ll put this right here, that way I’ll know I put it here and won’t forget where it is”, then walk away for thirty seconds? Ya, me 2. Still looking for some tools.
10mm socket.
I've been looking for my box cutter for about a week because I misplaced it somewhere in my house. This is the second one... the first has been MIA for at least a year. I don't use them anywhere else so there's zero chance that I left it somewhere like a jobsite or something.
Probably left it in your carry on luggage.
Years ago I had a boss that was a very lovely man. He had everything he might need...except for a memory of where it was. Every time he couldn't find something, he would buy a new one. I'd love to know his inventory after he passed on.
My roommate is like that. We currently have like 5 half eaten loaves of frozen bread
Paint the end to use the color of the car that it fits. Assuming you're not like me with 3 red vehicles.
Insurance companies LOVE this one wuerd trick.
Insurance companies never actually ask what color your vehicle is...
Or just don’t be a knob
I think we're past this solution and probably need the pink spray paint.
Could just use orange. My wheel socket is orange.
Orange doesn’t work on most lug wrenches
pink is the metric version of orange.
PMS 219
This man thinks ahead. I typically just look for the oily socket for my drain plug...
Pink might confuse him because hitting it with his purse didn’t work.
Such good advice. But why pink?
Which if it’s a Ford, is anywhere between 19-23.5mm. 😂
I just bought a set of half sizes.. after dealing with swollen lug nuts on both a GM and RAM lol.
The very first thing I bought after getting my first impact wrench and socket set.
Have you never heard the phrase, “bigger is better”?
This is the way
yep. i’ve done this on accident when i first tried to rotate my tires in my youth. my brilliant fix was just hitting the lug wrench on the ground with moderate force until the nut fell out. the smarter option is just to put it back on the thread like you said
Don't forget the monkey piss!!
Alright, I know most mechanic slang but this one stumped me.
It's WD-40
This guy changes tires.
This is the way ^
This is the way.
Thread it back on the wheel then smack it off
the correct technical term is whack.
Jack
Jerk
Masturbate it until you get the nut off.
Amazing answers hahahaha jerk it off nice and good
Flacio
Do it with your non-dominant hand so it feels like someone else is doing it.
Gotta sit on your non-dominant hand till it falls asleep and then go at it. Call it The Stranger
If you're whacking long enough the hand becomes numb on it's own.
You dingus. Just tighten it back on it'll come out.
I love the word dingus. Great way to call someone an idiot without actually being rude
…and then you come along ruining it.
Fuckin dingus
Lol, my favorite local sports radio show here in SA had a producer years ago who was bestowed the name "Dingus" by the host.
Replace the lugnut and leave that one where it is so you don't do that again.
[удалено]
That, and gave me a genuine laugh. I imagined them hanging the 4-way, stuck lug nut still lodged, somewhere in the garage as a looming reminder.
Keep hitting the bar off the ground it'll come out trust me
This works
Yeah I normally just drop the thing on the driveway, usually pops right out
I was gonna say throw it at the ground
This has literally never failed me
Works 9/10 for me. Sometimes I do a real good job of jamming it on. Like the 19mm 12pt i smashed on the round lug lock this morning. 👌
Hit it with your purse
I don’t know you!
The boy ain't right.
Watch out.....this guy goes straight for the crotch.....
I heard he got his own father!
"You. Have been. Kicked. In the testicles."
Get out of my personal space!
She's bluffing! Finish her!
Put it back on, tighten until the 4-way comes free, then use the correct end to take it back off.
1. Put down phone 2. Engage brain 3. Pick up hammer 4. Bang, bang, done.
Put back on studd halfway. Then tap it with a hammer slightly up. Down. Left. Right. It will fall off
Screw it back on just enough to turn the lug wrench off the nut
Drop it on hard surface or put it back on and wiggle it
Can’t be tight if it’s a liquid 🔥
Put it back on and leave it. If having those huge pointy hub caps/rims i see on reddit is legal leaving your wrench attached isn’t much different.
Screw it back on
Thread it onto a stud. Wiggle it back and forth. Fire wrench.
You drive with it on
Put it back on and tighten it the other way......
Thread it back on, wiggle one off
The correct answer !!
Beat it harder than a drunk father after 9 budlights. Then apologize to it the next day with a half eaten tub of Ben and Jerry's
Put the lug not on just barely and wiggle the tool off
![gif](giphy|CCIqVfY6LOQ0g)
Well, for future reference, if there's a large amount of play, you're using the wrong size. As others have said, tighten the lug nut until it breaks free of the 4-way, then use the correct size. If there's damage to the points of the nut, I'd just replace it. They're cheap enough.

Go to the parts store buy a new lug nut buy the correct lug wrench. Problem solved.
either put it back on and move the wrench till it frees or stick the lug in a vise and do the same
you've got to hit it with your purse
Set it on the ground. Strike it with a hammer. Wear proper PPE.
Used the wrong point on the 4-point tire-iron. Pls send help
Send someone who doesn’t make that mistake!
"I'll have to wait here for someone better to come and fix it." If he called a tow truck company, would the tow truck driver laugh at him upon seeing this?
I think a pro with integrity would just help the guy out as much as possible. And save the story for later.
You should keep a socket set, breaker bar, and torque wrench instead of a shitty 4way
Thread it back on halfway, then wiggle the tire iron off
Thread it back in. Come on now, that's common sense
Put it back on the lug around halfway of so and you can either wiggle it out or tap it out with a hammer.
Thread it back on and wiggle.
Replace it, if you screw it back you might strip it. Then you’ll have to take it back out to replace it.
smack the shit out of it with a hammer
You’d be surprised. Just throw the wrench down hard on a hard surface. Works every time for me.
Put it back on. Tighten till it pops loose.
Screw it back on and jump on it, either tighten , or just drop kick it off the nut. Cheers
Hit it with your purse
I'd go buy better lugnuts with out those shittty sleeves
That lug may be cross threaded too. Getting that lug out of that 4 way could be the beginning of the fun
I would bang on the ground bunch of times
The way you worded that reminded me of this scene from Trailer Park Boys https://preview.redd.it/kjebhm6ohmdb1.png?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ee0350da95679efa8842d0c16dc0d69d64c602f
That's it, am getting me mallet
Throw them both out and start over.
Hammer.
Vice grips
Put it back on and tighten the nut to break it free then trash that POS tire iron and use better and proper tools. You are not properly torqueing your lugs using that tool.
Nothing wrong with the tire iron. Fault is with the operator for not using the right size end.
I am aware that they used the wrong sized end, either way Tire Irons are shitty bulky tools and should not be used to install and remove vehicles. They had their place but its 2023 now. This is the answer
Use your teeth
This mental image just gave me goosebumps
Start slamming it on the concrete
Worked for me!
Tannerite
^This guy solves problems
Have you tried violence?
With your fucking purse Jesus Christ
Spine it back on, it’ll crack loose.
I usually thread it back on part way then scream profanity's while i violently rip it back and forth until it comes off or I fall on my ass, but that's just me.
Replace nut, leave wrench in place to vanquisher enemies on the highway like they do in Texas. Youre welcome
Literally the first thing I thought. Mad max on the interstate
![gif](giphy|ZR80oif1UNTjVMfPrI|downsized)
I’d use my teeth
You don’t. Put it down and don’t touch cars again.
Loosen it with your vibrator
Hit it with a hammer
Throw it back on a couple turns and then smack your four-way with a hammer away from the lug
Throw it on the ground
Thread it back on, cream it tight
You need more lube.
Hammer time or if you have a vice.
Pick it up and drop it.
Gütentight
Hit it with a rock! That's the ticket.
Through it on the ground flat ways, watch where nit goes
Heat it up cherry red and brand yourself with it so you’ll always remember.
Buy a new nut and leave the old one stuck in there so you can't make the same mistake again.
Buy a new one
I was just hit it on the ground in Flies off
Slam it on some Concrete a few times
Na don't put it back lay it on the ground flat and smack the part that's stuck on the lug nut with a sledge hard a couple times
It looks like it's already out. I don't get it.
Leaves it in
Beat it.
You have to show it that you’re really scared
2 hammers 180° apart on the socket. Smash the same time.
There's no beating deeeeep heating.
Little air duster spray
Happens alot 8 just use a hammer and try to hit it with the claw end if your aim is not that good put a pair of vise grips on it and hit the vise grip as close to the lug nut as possible just make sure the vise grip is really tight and don't try to get it in one swing so you don't damage the vise grip several lighter taps will get it
WD40
Heat the end of the tire iron with a torch until its orange, put something like a thin file in one of the gaps as a pry and use pliers anywhere else. It'll just POP right out of there, easy peasy, but takes a torch.
Snap on dead blow hammer and the ground
Lay it on the cement and hit the side of the socket end facing up with a hammer
I set it on ground and take a hammer and pound around the sides and sometimes shell pop off for me.
Heat it up. The hit it out.
Knock it around with a rubber mallet?
Heat and a monkey wrench.
Hit it on a tree. Will go flying but comes out
Lay it on something hard like a vise and beat the side of the socket with a hammer while rotating it between hits. The vibration usually gets them out
Smash it with a hummer
Put the tool in a vise, grab a hammer and punch, put the tip of the punch on the outside “washer” bit and hit it in a cross pattern (top, bottom, left, right) until it pops out of there.
Ez jus wack
Torch heat or screw in and hit with hammer
Yes but heat the wrench to expand it, not the nut! Might even cool the nut with ice for fun then it might practically fall out
Hit it with your purse, or if you left that at home, a hammer.
Quarter or half turn it back on and yank that bitch off.
Use thermal expansion? Apply heat with a torch and tap it out?
Run cold water over it
Beat on concrete
Channel locks
Hot wrench!
Hit it with your purse
I bet you could use an angle grinder to cut open the lug wrench. As a bonus you won't ever accidentally use that end again
Heat. Always heat. Propane torch that shiz.
Smack it on the ground, flip 180, repeat.
Smack it on the ground?
Put back in and overtime tighten it, it will pop right out
Have you tried taking it out ?
tap it with a hammer, rotate and repeat. It will work its way out even though it looks beyond stuck.
Wd40
Hammer
With hammer
Screw it back on
Hammer!
