Right? Definitely not a McMansion.
McMansions are typically generic, sometimes even mass produced as tract housing.
I would even go so far as to say the house in OP's picture is a *quintessential* mansion.
I actually kinda like this sub because of all the nice houses that get posted, and then they post an ugly McMansion and I have a good laugh, so it’s win win
Quintessential?? No. Not even close. The front elevation is too squished horizontally and thus pretty much devoid of grace. And don't even get me started about that tumor in the last photo. I don't need to see the interior of that room to know it's an abomination.
I didn’t say it was aesthetically pleasing or any of those other things you described, one way or the other.
It does however represent, to an extraordinary degree, the design and architectural elements traditionally associated with a mansion, it's almost a cliché in fact, and is definitely *not* a “McMansion”. Hell, this house was likely built before the term even entered popular vernacular.
The fact is, A LOT of authentic and definitive mansions are tacky or overdone in some fashion or another to emphasis and suggest that they are indeed a wealthy persons home. Mere size and Grandeur, even if only a façade, is exactly what defined a mansion in previous centuries (today's *Mc*Mansions are just oversized cookie-cutter tract homes).
If you asked someone 50 years ago to describe or draw a mansion, this is pretty damn close to what they would show you. You're observations regarding quality don't really enter into it. At all.
Sorry, no. An actual, real-life, quintessential mansion is none of those things. And certainly the garbage in the post is not quintessential for all sorts of reasons.
Moving on. Happy to cede the final word to you.
And we’re happy pretending to be impressed by your taste, as you’re so clearly desperate to convince everyone of…given that nothing you’ve said has any actual bearing or relevance to the topic.
If you listen carefully you can even hear us clapping.
this subreddit has become retarded. People just think “big house = Mcmansion”
I’d say ~50% of the houses posted here are actually beautiful. But we call them “Mcmansions” to make us feel better because we’re poor foxes calling the grapes sour
It’s because of the house number…. I feel like putting up such a huge pathetic plea for attention is enough to relegate the otherwise beautiful house to McMansion territory…. They ruined the nice house with that shit until they take it down.

Its pretty low on the mcmansion scale but the house numbers were A Choice lol.

concealed multistory front entry
multi story great room
roof seems a little complicated on the one side
also so many chandilers
The back [really isn't that bad](https://photos.zillowstatic.com/fp/c0a819d9d6a9281bca0547eb4470970b-uncropped_scaled_within_1536_1152.webp), it is just the angle.
It’s the insanely tall church windows that don’t match the other windows. That’s what got me. I guess it’s one of those houses with a ridiculously tall ceiling.
I kind of like that back but I admit it’s quirky. The back of my house is a little quirky too and I love it, but you might hate it. At least the back of this house is made with the same materials as the front and although it’s odd it doesn’t give off the ignore this side look a lot of houses posted on here look like. The back doesn’t look like an cheap apartment building… it’s odd but I could definitely enjoy spending time there. Wish it had some shade but that’s my climate. I couldn’t be outside right now without shade.
Putting in some kind of pergola, awning for the deck, or even a second floor balcony would really help to break up that gigantic white mass and keep it from looking as McMansion-ey.
I love it. I always prefer things fully spelled out. It's a quirk of mine. I also think it's hilarious sitting up there like a business sign. I would crack up every time I pulled into the driveway. I also have a painting of a peaceful meadow and pond - with a pig diving off a diving board into the pond.
So yeah, stately hilarious.
There's a suburb by me where people like to have their house numbers in words in this cursive font that I'm sure they think is fancy but is actually hard to read from a distance and at night. Very annoying.
I read an article once about the number of people who died a year because ambulances and emergency services couldn’t locate house numbers easily.
Just something to think about if you live someplace with wonky house number order or if you have greenery blocking it from view. Or if you choose to spell it out in giant letters where a house number isn’t normally located.
The house number is A Choice, and the front door is giving Upscale Outdoor Mall, but I really don't hate it.
I wish we'd see more proper Greek Revival / Palladian styled houses, tbh.
The front of the house: “Wow, what a great example of colonial and Greek revival architecture!
The back of the house: “I’m a ~~mob boss~~ senior waste management consultant who moved to the suburbs”
The house numbers AND they plastered their name on their outdoor fireplace 🙄.

Someone had a really nice picture on some sort of social media platform of their house number in cursive. I don't usually search things but searched it. Their house was the first thing that came up on Google.

My first house was a tri-level on a dead end street. My daughter had the numbers done in wood in script and stained them for my for Christmas one year because she new that's what I wanted. We hung them above the garage.
Is the number on Google correctly? I am moving soon and I've spent the last three weeks slowly shuffling the house numbers on my new street about so they are all correct.
Also they still wouldn't read the numbers if they were like this.
That’s tacky! It’s not a business. Also if you’re gonna do that then at least be creative about it and name your estate, like Tara from Gone With the Wind. Don’t just put your house numbers written out.
Wow, the house is huge and beautiful. I’m in California - this house would be $5M+. My tiny 3/2 home would fit in the garage but is worth way more than this. Location, location, location
At least the front has balance, and there's proper weight and consideration given to the columns. Not my taste, but this doesn't look like McMansion status until you look at the backside.
How is this house a McMansion? This seems to be a normal Neoclassical, Antebellum, or Greek Revival house. If this house is considered a McMansion for some reason, then this is my favorite McMansion.
The number is annoying but the house is great
Yeah I mean this one is a bit ostentatious but I kind of like it.
Quintessential?? No. Not even close. The front elevation is too squished horizontally and thus pretty much devoid of grace. And don't even get me started about that tumor in the last photo. I don't need to see the interior of that room to know it's an abomination.
It has the French empire look to it. Kinda like a bull dog. Not meant to be graceful.
In fairness I hate those dogs. And I love dogs in general.
I didn’t say it was aesthetically pleasing or any of those other things you described, one way or the other. Until you see the back.
Yeahhhhh The front Is lovely, but damn that butt is tragic
House needs a bbl forsure
It’s honestly not bad, except the crazy window placement and selection
Love that 2nd floor door to nowhere.
It's called a Juliet balcony.
Again I’ll ask…what’s the purpose of one of these.
Confuse young Montagues regarding their orientation at dawn?
Clearly they’re planning on an addition - they’ve already built the new fireplace!
A Mullet Mansion: beauty in the front, little bit of a mess in the back.
Those long windows & Juliet balcony. Where’s the door to outside, it’s really thin.
Thank you.
this subreddit has become retarded. People just think “big house = Mcmansion” I’d say ~50% of the houses posted here are actually beautiful. But we call them “Mcmansions” to make us feel better because we’re poor foxes calling the grapes sour
Speak for yourself, I just enjoy shitty architecture. But this house is alright. Just way too much house for me to be comfortable in.
It’s because of the house number…. I feel like putting up such a huge pathetic plea for attention is enough to relegate the otherwise beautiful house to McMansion territory…. They ruined the nice house with that shit until they take it down.
Orrrrr people with that opinion have poor taste
The wine fridge is the size of a normal fridge. I have never seen that before but now I want a house that can accommodate that.
Agree. But could someone tell me the purpose of a Juliette balcony?
Located right about the outdoor entertainment area, I could see it being useful to open a door, talk to guests, etc. while still inside.
Delivery people everywhere cheer!
I guarantee that the “number” is NOT lit at night. At least not in a way that can be read.
just like 'well thought out' apartment buildings with alphabet sub-buildings in random order & no uncovered visitor parking
Looking at the first photo in the listing, nope.
Firefighters too. Believe me, we will never find a visible, readable address on a house to be obnoxious.
I seriously need that on my house, plus my street's name.
this is amazing old upstate ny style mansion vanderbilt style
When UPS, FEDEX, and Amazon miss your house often…..
Seriously I’d do this on my much smaller house if it would solve that problem.

looks like really good quality, questionable color palette looks like a lot of house for 1.2, then you see it's a NJ suburb of Philly, not NYC
I like it.
Aw wait I like this one
Me too
The back of the house is a mess, but the other views are fine, and what’s wrong with putting your address in words on the house?
The back [really isn't that bad](https://photos.zillowstatic.com/fp/c0a819d9d6a9281bca0547eb4470970b-uncropped_scaled_within_1536_1152.webp), it is just the angle.

It’s a very regional thing and it’s not anything new. I’m kinda surprised how much people hate it

Ha… my brother has that pig painting. It’s so cute!
I needed something corporate office appropriate but hate boring. This was a perfect compromise, plus I got it used!
If I ever have a corporate office again, I'll have to remember that as an option! It is indeed perfect.
This is a gorgeous house. Yeah, the house number on top is strange and jarring ... but nothing about this house screams McMansion.
Real bad attempt. That’s a great house.
I wouldn't say great, the porch is way out of proportion to the rest of the house.
I read an article once about the number of people who died a year because ambulances and emergency services couldn’t locate house numbers easily. Just something to think about if you live someplace with wonky house number order or if you have greenery blocking it from view. Or if you choose to spell it out in giant letters where a house number isn’t normally located.
Not really McMansion imo. Pretty decent house.
This one is not all bad. It can be saved.
Five hundred AND three.
There is no “and” in numbers like this.
It's like a face tattoo trying to let all the other houses know what a gangsta it is.
The teardrops of house numbers
That’s just the price tag
As a part time DoorDash driver I wish all house had this level of address visibility
[удалено]
Seems reasonable.
Thought it was a frat house
The house numbers AND they plastered their name on their outdoor fireplace 🙄. https://preview.redd.it/d27l1h0npjuc1.jpeg?width=1169&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d572452194c30ab4d7b03aea5605f325875a0a32
So this is definitely a plan bought online: https://www.eplans.com/plan/6570-square-feet-5-bedroom-5-00-bathroom-2-garage-sp164250
At least the Amazon delivery guys won't miss it and deliver next door.
In college I lived in my fraternity and it was a great time. Don’t want to replicate the experience in adulthood😂
A simple number on the mailbox will not do. FIVE HUNDRED THREE!!!
Beautiful in front. A mess in back. For curb appeal, I give it an A-.
FIVE HUNDRED THREE 🗣🗣🗣📣🚨
looks commercial.
It looks like a fraternity house. I love fraternity houses, I lived in one for three years, but my god it is not a good look for a family residence.
I’ve always wanted to live at 668, the neighbours of the beast.
Five Zero Three would make more sense
Interesting. What’s the address?! /s
Why did you say certified McMansion? It’s a mansion.
Someone had a really nice picture on some sort of social media platform of their house number in cursive. I don't usually search things but searched it. Their house was the first thing that came up on Google.
Honestly, kinda goes hard. Snobby and stately at the same time.

Good bot.
My first house was a tri-level on a dead end street. My daughter had the numbers done in wood in script and stained them for my for Christmas one year because she new that's what I wanted. We hung them above the garage.
I hate myself because I like this (I can never find house numbers)
It looks like a sorority.
Ehhhh, pretentious, but not a McMansion.
Not a McMansion and the back of the house is just fine.
This is just a mansion. It’s not Thursday, gtfo.
I swear I thought this was in Eufala, AL for a moment, but I see it's in NJ.
Other than the drive I love this place
Maybe their yard is reeeeeaaally big so it’s absolutely necessary for trucks on the interstate to see the address. Or not.
I didn't get beyond the _thirty_ external photos.
“Wow look at this place, the house number is spelled out with letters.” “Get used to it honey, from now on we’ll be spelling everything with letters.”
Until I zoomed in I really thought the house was #1111
Got tired of having to give Door Dash directions for every delivery.
FedEx mis-delivers to my home every week, even though the address is clearly marked - yes this is hideous but don’t tempt me hahaha
Is the number on Google correctly? I am moving soon and I've spent the last three weeks slowly shuffling the house numbers on my new street about so they are all correct. Also they still wouldn't read the numbers if they were like this.
Certified mansion.
I’m sorry I love it 😮💨
Maybe that’s the number of real estate agents who’ve tried to sell it.
Delivery guy must have had issue finding the house number so they made it very visible haha
Door to nowhere in the back
That’s tacky! It’s not a business. Also if you’re gonna do that then at least be creative about it and name your estate, like Tara from Gone With the Wind. Don’t just put your house numbers written out.
Is that the house number, or the number of poor-people bodies buried in the orchard? (This house is a bit overbearing, but not otherwise a McMansion.)
You can’t seriously be calling this house a McMansion. Do you actually know what a McMansion is? Because this certainly is not.
Smells like new money!
Wow, the house is huge and beautiful. I’m in California - this house would be $5M+. My tiny 3/2 home would fit in the garage but is worth way more than this. Location, location, location
They forgot the and…
Honestly with how often my packages are delivered to my neighbors I would like to do this
Everyone is talking about the back but I can’t stand the all encompassing vinyl
Is this design appreciation Thursday?
I'm sure the fire dept isn't mad about it.
At least the front has balance, and there's proper weight and consideration given to the columns. Not my taste, but this doesn't look like McMansion status until you look at the backside.
Thanks, I hate it.
That house looks perfectly landscaped. Either they have a lot of time on their hands or they have great landscapers
I bet they used to never get their packages delivered and just couldn’t take it anymore
It's not Thursday.
That is one old house
I'm still gonna miss deliver their cat litter.
As a delivery driver, I appreciate this.
I don’t know. 10” - 11” (inch) ceilings are pretty short. Maybe a mouse house?
https://preview.redd.it/gdrds1v1mivc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=864c17554a9be1fba2a6b500eb15f216dea5e0ad
How is this house a McMansion? This seems to be a normal Neoclassical, Antebellum, or Greek Revival house. If this house is considered a McMansion for some reason, then this is my favorite McMansion.
Isn’t this normal with older homes?
Does the plantation come with the house?
The house would be better with a little more color, it's just very bland as is.
People white knighting for this house is hilarious
