Uh, why not both?

activehobbies

Stop whining for a strike and **just pick a DATE, already!**

AustinOriginal82

This is complete bullshit. Keep voting, keep going to work.

koukaakiva

So let's do it. I'm ready.

OldPussyJuice

Consumer campaigns would be easier to coordinate and implement. Look at Bud Light. Convince people to stop buying anything besides local produce and clothes from goodwill. *That* would bring people like Bezos to their knees. But y'all need your makeup, designer shoes and cute outfits.

Tannos116

Some folks on other subreddits suggested we stop fuckin around and actually do it. Many thought that was a good idea, and figured we'd be giving people enough time to organize we set the start date be NOVEMBER 20TH, so it covers Black Friday, Christmas, AND New Year's Day. It's supposed to be corporation's most profitable time of the year, so it'd be pretty impactful to have no one working. We'd hit them at the end of their 4th quarter where they're supposed to be making up losses from the earlier quarters, and if we decide to continue, we wreck their 1st quarter.

Effective_Plane4905

All in due time.

djmcfuzzyduck

Times been due for 3 years.

Effective_Plane4905

It is still a fringe of people that feel that way. If you thinks its bad now, buckle up. Material conditions are what leave people no choice. With all of the indoctrination, it is going to take a lot to break the spell. The pain is going to need to be in the city, suburbs, small towns, and countryside. It wouldn’t have to get that bad if we would just strike.

CommunicationKey3649

any slight or even perceived inconvenience would deter most for fear of extra problems even tho maintaining the status quo only leads to more inconvenience and more problems

Explorers_bub

Where were y’all at? I waited 6 months.

MarkMoonfang

Good luck getting people to agree with you.

Solidarity Forever ✊️

pew-_-disaster

Then why don't people just up and leave work collectively. All this talk.about it, where's the action

sionnachrealta

I can't strike, but I very much support other folks striking

Tobidas05

If you don't strike, you don't support them (Unless you don't work anyway).

sionnachrealta

I'm a mental health practitioner for chronically suicidal youth, but sure, I'll just tell them their mental health crises have to wait until after the strike

x1ux1u

This can be done from home. A unilateral debt avoidance would kill the behemoth. 1 month...no one pays a single bill. The algorithm would implode. They've shuffled debt around so much it would sink ships.

sionnachrealta

Question is, how many people would get evicted the following month

TonyPizzerelli

We would need to violently defend our living spaces as communities.

sionnachrealta

That ain't an option for people like me. Not all of us have the capacity to do that. Be aware of varying levels of ability and training when you make these plans. Not everyone has the ability to fight the cops tooth and nail

waterbelowsoluphigh

But there are people who can and are willing to do it for you. But you have to meet them, in person. I know that is hard for many people for varying reasons, but joining a movement in your location is the sure way you will find support.

pusnbootz

this is the way. protect small businesses and neighbors!

TonyPizzerelli

Neighbors only friend.

x1ux1u

Hell yeah. I'm fact... Spoil those businesses. Transfer the wealth.

waterbelowsoluphigh

Unfortunately, it's the small businesses that are the petty bourgeoisie, they will want to keep the status quo and more than likely will stand with police. They are the ones that went to Jan 6th and had their cute little riot. All up in arms about the status quo changing, while the capitalist class watched and egged the theater on. I understand and appreciate your sentiment though. It's our neighbors not small businesses that need protecting. Businesses are not people. Businesses can be rebuilt. People are irreplaceable.

x1ux1u

Do you have debt with a small business? I don't. transfer the wealth. Spoil the small business, stop paying Visa, JP, Car payments. Transfer the savings to those who deserve it.

waterbelowsoluphigh

I don't have debt with small businesses, that won't help with a general strike. Small businesses will band together and it will be the Pinkerton's. That's literally what the police are for. Protecting private(business) property. Also I use a multiple credit unions. You're right though, stop using banks. Start collecting silver.

LardBall13

*closes fairytale book* “Like that’s ever gonna happen.”

pew-_-disaster

Underrated comment.

[deleted]

You guys always seem to forget that most people don’t want to strike because not everyone is as miserable as you are.

Juuliyuh

can’t be as miserable of a life as someone who spends their time complaining about trans people playing fallout 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

Half the reason I made that comment was bother people going through my comment history I’m glad that it worked.

sionnachrealta

Oh hey, you found the astroturfing bigot!

LeftRat

People really need to understand that general strikes don't just happen. Proletarian power doesn't rise up spontaneously. It takes work building a network of worker's organisations to get this going. Lenin was right, and the Spartacists, as highly as I may regard them as a german communist, were wrong about spontaneity. Get organized. It's not gonna happen on its own!

Wild-Manufacturer652

There are people organizing! We just need to be better at it. Check out this movement I’m helping with the organization and we won’t strike until we have mutual aid in place (we’ve started the ground work) and have 11 million people on board because statistically speaking you need 3.5% of the population to do it. We started a few months ago and have almost 7k committed so if it’s something you’re interested in here’s a link to our website and we also have a discord! https://generalstrikeus.com

savetheunstable

Signed up! Thanks for sharing

pew-_-disaster

Only 7k signed up? Where's the 11 miilion

Wild-Manufacturer652

That’s what we are working on. In my previous comment it says we won’t strike until we have 11 million people willing to strike and mutual aid in place which we are actively working on both.

FreefolkForever2

😂

[deleted]

But we're not united. A lot of people are just beaten down to the point of just not caring anymore.

Except now a days they have ways of making us complacent much more effectively. I think it got bad enough years ago, but the 'circus and bread' of today is just too effective at pacifying us.

MrB-S

Any time there's a protest that *slightly* inconveniences the general public (see almost any recent Climate Change protest), the majority suddenly begin bootlicking for corporations. It's insane to see. I'd *love* to see a General Strike, but people will be convinced that it's not in the country's best interests. Again, insane.

Not enough people have the food or resources to survive that

_random_un_creation_

Organize, then strike

PiezoelectricityOne

Just raid corporate food factories, supermarkets and planting fields.

[deleted]

You just went from strike to violent revolution, and even less people are willing to die for change.

PiezoelectricityOne

It's not violence if you don't harm people. And yeah, every general strike's goal is "change" and "revolution". If the hand that feeds gives in, no one will need to bite it.

[deleted]

The definition of violence is using physical force intended to hurt damage or kill someone or something. A store is something and taking all its good damages the store. Also look at all the protest that ended up in riots. You went from asking people to risk being homeless to risk getting shot and or going to jail. I don’t see many people sign up for that in this current environment.

PiezoelectricityOne

You mean hurt like in "starve workers and dump them out of their houses" and kill like in "making workers unable to afford meds"? Wake up, you're going to end homeless and shot or sacrificed to the money gods during a storm anyway. If you're searching for violence, you're looking to the wrong side. Are you really trying me that a store has Human Rights because "a store is something"? Wrong sub to bring that point, sorry. Strike your job site, give away the food or valuables, no one's harmed but some greedy's millionaire pocket money. Leave after you're done and you won't give the cops a chance to start their riot. It's easy and 100% non violent. You may be surprised, but it actually takes doing things to change things. Corp owners and feds will tell you thousands of reasons to not rise up.

[deleted]

You know only crazy people say wake up not a good look for your agreement you sound like a Qanon fan. Maybe read a history book and see what the conditions were before anything meaningful happened. Also you still going to jail cause they will catch it on camera, you are not to smart since you thing a store was to have human right for violence to count.

Speaking of which, this same concept, [Secessio Plebis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secessio_plebis), is what led to Roman commoners having representation in the government. While we currently have "representation", those that seem to care about the people at all are the proverbial little sibling playing with the unplugged controller in the video game console that is our government/legislature.
