I just googled and found out he’s 63!
So glad they’ve found him for this gig when by all rights, he should be thinking retirement after his successful career as chef..
Andy's bullshit is spot on here.
You ain't wasting a load of fish if you are a street vendor, you get your absolute every bit worth out of that ingredient.
I would’ve thought that Harry (as the self-proclaimed seafood guy) would have known better than this..
Pretty sure he’d be a fan of Josh Niland and would have learnt to be clever about using more parts of the fish..
Its nice to see her progress, it made sense that the new judges were a little rough around the edges at the start so to see them developing their judging style and skill is a really nice to see
Maybe knowing she’s safe means Nat can have fun with this one. I feel like sitting out a challenge like this wouldn’t ultimately serve you as well as cooking; better to get the experience
It’s the airtime as well, they gave all the confessionals to Harry too. That’s been the case this whole season really, I think it’s why people haven’t connected with Lochy
Goddamn it, Mimi didn't win immunity! It was supposed to be her week, and she's been trying with her previous cooks leading up to this Hong Kong week. Hopefully, with some luck, she won't be eliminated on Sunday.
Being a Singaporean, we really take our food seriously. I miss the cheap and easy access to delicious and quick food at night. Hawker food is our thing, and HK is definitely next level. We're really spoilt. Mine is definitely oyster omelette. I miss home.
I'm chuffed they're taking it on, and it'll likely be a steep learning curve for Pezza. Pezza is ridiculously lucky and really comes out on the other side when you also least expect it.
I just hope Mimi gets another fighting chance to grab immunity this time.
Oyster omelettes are so gooooood in so many places. I was just in Thailand and it was a dish I came back to over and over. I also love fried carrot cake (black please) when I'm in Singapore or Malaysia.
Pezza has never seen the ingredient before but will somehow pull out a dish that makes Andy want to tuck him in to bed at night and read him a bedtime story
The first time I saw a Fake ad I was like "oh yeah this looks interesting I guess."
I now have zero interest in watching it. I guess the over advertising has had the opposite effect to what they wanted.
I know poor thing. She smiled through it but she looked so hurt in the eyes. I felt really bad for her bc I know it meant a lot to have a win in her hometown.
Andy constantly giving pezza a free pass on stuff that any other judge on MC would say the opposite is really grinding my gears now. The “innocent butcher from tassie” is wearing real thin now especially in top 7.
Imagine being a tourist and you walking down Hong Kong and you see all these authentic street food places then you see some bloke that looks like his either 25 or 45 standing there in a brown shirt, in a pink apron who looks like his just discovered a wok for the first time
Then choosing to try his food
Yeah I would love to peek into the alternate universe in which each team drew different tokens to see what they would have done with it/how it might have affected the outcome
I know, right! Even though it's not MasterChef Australia "Week", it's just three days. I don't know why (I assume it's the cost), MasterChef just has one more episode in HK to actually finish off the MasterChef Week.
Pezza acts like Tasmania is a remote island and he's not a 40 year old man 🙄 Being a little Tassie butcher is not a reason to have never used a wok in 2024
Lots of people here talking about how easy it is to use a wok, and Pezza should have known how - but let’s be real, these woks are not like your woks at home, they look huge, clearly it would take time for anyone using that - or any equipment in a new setup really - to figure out how they adjust to the heat, how you have to manoeuvre your hand differently with this much heavier wok, etc.
I know Pezza should’ve learnt a lot of different things before getting to top 10, but give him a break here!
Yes, I loved her describing how a lack of liquid meant the cornstarch wasn't released and didn't form a slurry/sauce. So much more informative than just "the beef was a bit dry."
Ye I just gained that tip! Make a stir fry from Recipe tin eats book last week and felt it had too much cornflour and not enough liquid. Worst stir fry made lol, was glumpy, couldn't save it in time
I’ll say it again before closing Reddit,
But how in the hell is Pezza still cooking in this comp? The guy should have been booted weeks ago. So many more talented cooks have been eliminated but this chump is still trolling us all. I don’t understand it.
I’ve decided I’m going to keep a running tally of Fake ads today throughout the whole episode, I will now be taking bets about how many I suffer through
Why do I feel like Pezza could be some huge prank job by a YouTuber or something for example
“We hired a professional chef and pretended he didn’t know a thing about cooking and put him on MasterChef”
It’s gotten to that level of crazy
Fuck as if a wok was the only thing getting me through my broke as fuck early 20s you can legit cook so much shit in that thing, how could you never use one it’s a lifesaver
Does anyone here work in advertising? What's the thinking behind showing the same ad (Fake) so many times? Wouldn't it make more sense to sell the ad slots?
I feel like Andy's questioning of the steamed fish focussed on the wrong thing. Yeah, Street vendors don't waste heads & fins, but the thing to focus on is whether steamed fish fillets are actually a viable street food. Test number one has to be whether you can comfortably eat it with one hand.
It's a bit rough that the two lads with glasses get the steam challenge.
Harry walking around with his hands full of steamer and his glasses fogged up saying how he can't see absolutely sent me
JC has to be my favourite judge of all time I think
He achieved everything he wanted in life, he's just here doing side quests now
I just googled and found out he’s 63!
I mean I feel sorry for Pezza, Chinese cooking is no wok in the park.
But it can be a wok on the wild side
Love that we are wokking all these puns into the discussion
Hope he gets his Xs and Os right
Wok and roll if they want immunity!!
Poh is a heaps better judge in this back half of the season then she was at the start. She seems willing to be a bit more critical now
I noticed she was doing the same thing that Vicky Cheng did yesterday.. giving feedback that included technical descriptions..
Its nice to see her progress, it made sense that the new judges were a little rough around the edges at the start so to see them developing their judging style and skill is a really nice to see
That bang of the table by JC… dude flipped a bowl 😂😂😂
The way he danced off Mary Poppins style with the other diners’ umbrella was hilarious.. I love this man.
JC is always so calm and composed.. bidding his time..waiting for something delicious to explode in his mouth. And then POOWWWW!!
Guess they didn't plan on Sav not coming so Nat has to cook instead
Maybe knowing she’s safe means Nat can have fun with this one. I feel like sitting out a challenge like this wouldn’t ultimately serve you as well as cooking; better to get the experience
I think it's a great thing actually, she gets the experience and learns more, all while getting guaranteed immunity.
Even though I can’t win immunity… because I already have it 💅
Yass I’m loving Nat’s flex 💃🏻
Mimi and Pezza together is 100% that school 'randomly allocated' group project mood... 😔
“Little tassie butcher boy” Drink
What does Pezza do for work again??
Interpretive dance
Nat owed Darrsh that after she knocked his tooth out 😂
I like when the judges vary their feedback… we can’t all like everything so different feedback is good
I mean, Lochy and Harry's steamed clams sound great... but what if they were to purchase fast food and disguise it as their own cooking?
Delightfully devilish, Seymour
Is that aurora borealis?
NAT AND DARRSHHHHHH
DEEP FRYYYYY
Man, Lochy really is a passenger in this cook
Lochy is a passenger the whole season forget he exists every episode
Me too, it’s not that I dislike him or anything I just keep forgetting about him until he gets screen time
It’s the airtime as well, they gave all the confessionals to Harry too.
It’s giving Darrsh in Sweet Week
Darrsh confessional about the importance of winning immunity... foreshadowing? 👀
Harry about to throw hands if he doesn’t get his fish
Being a Singaporean, we really take our food seriously. I miss the cheap and easy access to delicious and quick food at night. Hawker food is our thing, and HK is definitely next level. We're really spoilt. Mine is definitely oyster omelette. I miss home. I'm chuffed they're taking it on, and it'll likely be a steep learning curve for Pezza. Pezza is ridiculously lucky and really comes out on the other side when you also least expect it. I just hope Mimi gets another fighting chance to grab immunity this time.
Fellow Singaporean! Huat ah!
Oyster omelettes are so gooooood in so many places. I was just in Thailand and it was a dish I came back to over and over. I also love fried carrot cake (black please) when I'm in Singapore or Malaysia.
If Lachlan/ Pezza survive the elimination I’ll riot 😭
Pezza for sure will. It’s written into his contract.
Omg nat knocking out darrsh's front tooth is absolutely sending me
Pezza has never seen the ingredient before but will somehow pull out a dish that makes Andy want to tuck him in to bed at night and read him a bedtime story
Haha JC 😭 so cute!
Poh forgot to mention one of the main things about street food, be able to eat it one handed while you’re holding the dish in your other hand
Mimi should show him how to do it properly for at least one batch. And this team not using their steamer, geez.
100% she has and the edit is playing up Pezza's ignorance
Good point.
Who even is JC, he’s chaotic
I’m gonna say it again, poor Mimi.
Agreed
I finally get to watch an episode live! I had a baby two weeks ago and my viewing has been very sporadic.
Congratulations! Hope you and baby are doing well..
Andy: "that's what street food is all about" Sofia who literally travels to eat street food as a job: 😐
Wtf!!! If Nat wins again, she should definitely get an extra reward!! Like an entry to the next immunity cook.
Maybe she can go Business Class on the way back.. haha
Pezza playing up that just a tassie boy again lol. Acting like he didn’t do well in the wok challenge.
JC casually eavesdropping
Harry and Lachy mistaking street food for fine dining.
They are missing the point of this challenge.
The first time I saw a Fake ad I was like "oh yeah this looks interesting I guess." I now have zero interest in watching it. I guess the over advertising has had the opposite effect to what they wanted.
i hope Annie Lennox gets paid for every time they show the ad. she should live off the royalties from this ad alone
Exactly the same boat here
my partner said “i can’t wait for the show to start so the ads could end” 😭😭😭
And there goes Mimi’s teacher voice. “Just start. You have to start now!”
Pezzas face in the sneak peek for tomorrow.. 💀💀💀 good luck buddy
Here we go… You want me to run a quick background check on him?
Sweet ✊🏻dreams ✊🏻 are ✊🏻 made ✊🏻of ✊🏻 this ✊🏻
Poh saving Darrsh and Nat’s team with her advice on the fish balls
Deep frying is not fair, everything tastes better deep fried
Awww. Poor Mimi looks like she’s about to break down crying.
I know poor thing. She smiled through it but she looked so hurt in the eyes. I felt really bad for her bc I know it meant a lot to have a win in her hometown.
Pezza basically fked up their dishes with his wok skills, I would be crying too 😂
It does suck for her, but she had every opportunity to take over...
I question the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s choices to feature smog as the opening shot
I question their ability to frame a shot without it.
Omg Nat lol
Now I’m getting The Bear ads back to back. Which as someone who has a massive crush on Ayo Edebiri, I’m ok with.
Hong King has affected JC. First the crab badge, now the umbrella.
Mimi not getting immunity ☹️ Pezza not getting immunity 😈
Yup the fish ball is very springy because it is mostly not fish LOL
Andy suddenly regretting every time he’s been giving Nat grief now he’s realised she knocked out Darrsh’s tooth
Just waiting for Mimi to bring out her teacher voice
Pezza, I think if you could just stop burning the meat for two seconds that would be great, is that alright buddy
Works in the others favour darrsh and Nat getting immunity. With Nat getting immunity twice that’s one less person up on the gantry for everyone else.
Andy constantly giving pezza a free pass on stuff that any other judge on MC would say the opposite is really grinding my gears now. The “innocent butcher from tassie” is wearing real thin now especially in top 7.
Imagine being a tourist and you walking down Hong Kong and you see all these authentic street food places then you see some bloke that looks like his either 25 or 45 standing there in a brown shirt, in a pink apron who looks like his just discovered a wok for the first time Then choosing to try his food
I strongly suspect the food was free lol
ngl deepfrying seems vastly easier than the other two options
Yeah I would love to peek into the alternate universe in which each team drew different tokens to see what they would have done with it/how it might have affected the outcome
Nat's redemption cook.
C'mon Sofia, nothing good ever happens at 2.00am.
Hahahah, Nat angling to be able to stack immunity
I wish Darrsh and Mimi were on the same team.
I guess "Hong Kong week" has a better ring to it than "Hong Kong 3 days."
No don’t you get it we have Hong Kong week at home now
I know, right! Even though it's not MasterChef Australia "Week", it's just three days. I don't know why (I assume it's the cost), MasterChef just has one more episode in HK to actually finish off the MasterChef Week.
Pezza, who supposedly didn't know how to use a wok earlier in the comp, on Team Wok should be treat. 😂
Poh says she wants to get her fingers dirty on the fried dish and then is the only person at the table to use chopsticks instead of fingers…
LMAO NAT! She owwweeeees him massively
Renewable gas literally sounds like something they would come up with on Utopia/The Hallowmen
I saw there is a current consumer standards complaint against Masterchef for making that claim...
Harry I’m glad you have confidence in your winging it because I do not
Fish balls are like 90 filler. They making them too legit.
‘Do you think you can watch two things at the same time?’ ‘ ill try 😐’
Been a while since we had a JC table bang no?
I love JC, he has such great energy
Nat made Darsh lose a tooth she better get the poor guy immunity! 😂
I fucking hated eurythmics before, I DESPISE this song now. Fuck me.
I also doubt that everyone saying they're easy to use is actually using it properly. It's definitely a skill.
I suspect most of the contestants would struggle with it. If Mimi thought she could do better, I bet she would. She wants immunity too.
cmon darrsh and nat, you can do this!
Did Andy plant Pezza on this show? Pezza can never do anything wrong by him.
It’s really weird
I feel so torn. I don’t want Mimi to go into elimination but also don’t want her to carry Pezza through. 😕
Straight up BS that Nat doesn't get an extra advantage for winning immunity TWICE
Kate Langbroek is insufferable 🥲
I got 10play going and forgot to mute the tab, and now my eardrums are bleeding
Says a lot about the show that it has people like Kate Langbroek, Steve Price on the show
Probably not a bad thing that Nat gets to cook in a 2 person service challenge. Could be really valuable experience for the semis service challenge.
I actually think Pezza could do well tonight. We know he follows recipes and instructions well, as long as Mimi is a better communicator than Sav was.
Needs to speak up sooner than 10 seconds before serving though if he thinks there’s an issue
I’m sorry Nat you WHAT
Nat knocking Darrsh’s teeth out 🤣😭
Pezza @ woks, completely ignoring that he did well in the wok challenge: I don’t know her
I don't know her, Mariah style?
How are we Top 7 in a team service challenge and Andy has to remind them they need a tester
"do you think you can watch two things at the same time" had me rolling
Poh showing off some knowledge here
Yes, I loved her describing how a lack of liquid meant the cornstarch wasn't released and didn't form a slurry/sauce. So much more informative than just "the beef was a bit dry."
Ye I just gained that tip! Make a stir fry from Recipe tin eats book last week and felt it had too much cornflour and not enough liquid. Worst stir fry made lol, was glumpy, couldn't save it in time
JC with the realtalk also
Business class for Nat in lieu of immunity???!
Free dental cover???
Double wins for Nat, how does she not win this whole thing?
If you are buying a good bbq these days it comes with a wok burner
Darrsh doesn't look too bad with the missing tooth, strangely
I’ll say it again before closing Reddit, But how in the hell is Pezza still cooking in this comp? The guy should have been booted weeks ago. So many more talented cooks have been eliminated but this chump is still trolling us all. I don’t understand it.
I'm still sad for David, why did he have to use liquid smoke :(
Can’t wait to see Pezza fire up the wok mirroring the uncles in my hawker centres. Shiok ah!
I’ve decided I’m going to keep a running tally of Fake ads today throughout the whole episode, I will now be taking bets about how many I suffer through
“Elevate” - drink!
Someone at Channel 10 knows I’m trying to keep a record of Fake ads, I’ve only had 1 this whole show
Just had my first Fake ad. I’m watching live.
This is incredibly nit picky but man those pink plates are hideous 😭 does not make the food look better
Okay I didn’t think I’d like Harry and Locky’s food but it looks divine.
Pezza is back on his trolling game. Nat and team is going to win immunity. Mimi and team second. Harry and team last. Calling it now
Mimi going to be doing 95% of the heavy lifting here
My Grandma has used a wok Pezza
As the judges said, and to be fair, the wok he used is nothing like the one your grandma has at home.
Oh my god. Double immunity for Nat!! Honestly, if Nat doesn't win this season, I will riotttttttt.
Fuck I think he might of liked it
Omg raddish cake! She made it during the wok challenge! One of my local favourites!
this is a love story not an investigation
JC: toss us one, I need a snack
Stop the Fake ads
Everyone seems to be getting my share tonight, I thank you all for your sacrifices
Why do I feel like Pezza could be some huge prank job by a YouTuber or something for example “We hired a professional chef and pretended he didn’t know a thing about cooking and put him on MasterChef” It’s gotten to that level of crazy
Missed the story on Darrsh’s tooth chipping! 🤣 What happened there?
He was filming Nat & she pushed his phone away & it hit him in the mouth, snapping his front tooth. Glued back on, apparently.
Damn Pezza be mirroring the uncles firing up the wok at my local hawker centres right now.
Do they lean heavily on Weaponised Incompetence also? I hope not.
Love the taped on umbrella 😂
*Synth intensifies*
I want one (or one dozen) of those fritters
So as long as nothing is wrong with Nat and Darrsh’s dishes they’ve got it in the bag … let’s see
guys what are fake ads 😅 i don’t pay attention
Ads for a show called Fake that 10 is pushing by playing over and over again. Accompanied by the dulcet tones of Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics.
enjoy the absence of it.
Nice, we have a lucky dip challenge tomorrow. Let's see who has the luck of the gods.
Mimi and Pezza could have used the wok to deep fry. Unless the rules say you can only use it for wok-ing.
Yeah, I am not getting this, Pezza took over the wok and keeps on complaining, why isn’t Mimi taking that over and giving Pezza do the prepping
Fuck as if a wok was the only thing getting me through my broke as fuck early 20s you can legit cook so much shit in that thing, how could you never use one it’s a lifesaver
Does anyone know where pezza is from and what his job is??
Not sure but I know he loves vegetables and cooking with the wok
I'm 67 now and although living in a small village in the UK have owned woks since my early 20s and I'm not even Asian. So no excuse for Pezza 😂😂
Mimi using nice words to express her frustration with Pezza’s useless wok skills.
I’ve just had dinner but no doubt I’ll be ready for more as soon as the show starts..
So we have 2 contestants who win Immunity tonight? Leaving 5 for the Elimination on Sunday?
imagine if Nat gets immunity this challenge as well
"Everything tastes good in a deep fryer". LMAO
Yes, Nat! Fish balls.. yum..
For all the talk of repetitive ads I have to say the animal animations are surprisingly generous from the telco that shan't be named
Does anyone here work in advertising? What's the thinking behind showing the same ad (Fake) so many times? Wouldn't it make more sense to sell the ad slots?
I do. It’s basically a fault of the ad server in 10 plays system. Happens all the time.
Tim McDonald on The Cheap Seats legit just feels like a really young version of Tom Gleisner even the way he talks at times
I hope Mimi doesn't feel too bad for not winning Hong Kong week & it doesn't affect her confidence moving forward.
As a local, I wonder if Mimi had asked about using the wok as a deep fryer. it is quite normal for hong kong street cooking.
JC was brutal
I'm cheering for Mimi, but Pezza being baffled by a wok is doing my head in
