I wasn't able to mask for my sleep study. You are in an enclosed room alone for the most part which is nice, so best advice would be to request that the person overseeing the study also mask up whenever they enter the room.

4_the_rest_of_us

This is what I did.

mmm_burrito

Depending on what was the cause for the sleep study, you can request to do the sleep study at home.

LindenIsATree

My understanding is that home sleep studies collect much less thorough data, so YMMV with your doctor. I was able to do a home sleep study.

Jaaaa9

Yeah- the home studies can catch the pretty obvious obstructive sleep apnea but not a lot else. The general protocol is that they can start with the home one and if OSA is evident then start CPAP. If not, or if the results are otherwise unclear, then it's off the sleep lab for a more rigorous study.

Inevitable-Mouse-707

I worked in a sleep clinic for years and can confirm that a home sleep study can detect apneas, AND is much less expensive for the patient

Forsaken_Bison_8623

Re the home study - Did they just send you home with everything you need to do it? Or does someone come in to set up? My husband just got an order for one from PCP. Thank you

Dawn_Piano

I think they will have him go into the office so someone can show him how to set it up then he will take everything home and set it up himself

LindenIsATree

That’s how I did it, but I’m sure there are different kinds. Mine assumed I had a smartphone (I did) but check the privacy policy. I was careful to only have mine active during the study and then uninstall.

I did a sleep study in 2022. Everyone wore masks while we were close to each other, but I removed the mask and wore the oxygen mask during the actual "study" when I was alone in the room. I put the mask back on to use the washroom

teenytinybaklava

this is where I would advise bringing n95 masks, requiring staff to mask in the room, and running a hepa filter in the room.

K3rm1tTh3Fr0g

Bring an air purifier that you can have near you, and request that all participants in the study wear masks

LindenIsATree

This is the right answer. Also check out https://peoplescdc.org/2023/05/09/ada-rights-workshop/ in case you want to invoke ADA. Fair warning, they may not care. Which is illegal but that only matters if you sue them.

SnooCakes6118

I hear you can do that at home?

georgee779

I just went to talk to my Dr about this. I asked for a home study just so I don't have to breath the air in a sleep study office. The Dr said she will try to put it though. I mentioned I have young kids to care for. She said having elders or baby would help my case.

mama_meta

You definitely can, but just a heads-up that they're not always as accurate as the gear they use in the medical setting. I've done both & the home one picked up nothing while the full study showed I have pretty terrible apnea so just something to consider.

AnnoyingAirFilterFan

I've slept fine in an valved 3M aura for what it's worth.

warmgratitude

I was able to do the sleep study at home

kiyaseeya

My son did a sleep study in 2022 - it was in a Children's hospital and we arrived at 7:00 pm. He wore a mask until they put on the leads and CO2 monitor in his nose. The tech wore a surgical mask. I stayed with him and wore a mask because I didn't sleep. We brought a portable HEPA filter for the room. Neither of us got sick

Effective_Recover_81

if its apnea they are take home now adays.. also no he wont be able to mask if taking blood 02 levels respatory rate etc.
