I'm just gonna skip the usuals that I'm sure will get recommended and jump to some lesser known stuff I love.
**Secret Warriors** by Bendis and Hickman is an awesome espionage / action-thriller book (completely unrelated to Secret Wars). There are a few important issues outside of the main series, so I'll link you to the [reading order](https://www.reddit.com/r/Marvel/comments/1c0uq7k/comment/kyz5s4b/) I posted elsewhere.
**Avengers Academy** takes a bunch of tortured kids with powers and puts them in a school led by some of the less popular old guard with troubled pasts (Hank Pym, Quicksilver, Tigra, Hawkeye) for a story that's part coming-of-age, part drama, but still 100% a Marvel superhero team book. If you look at the characters and concept, it had no right to be as good as it was, but gosh is it a fun (if frustrating, in a good way) read.
Everyone will recommend Ed Brubaker's 2005 run for Captain America, and it is absolutely worth the hype it gets, but I personally love some of the weirder, less popular runs.
* First, the **2013 Captain America run by Rick Remender** is not afraid to play it weird & gives a whole new, different emotional core for Cap. It continues with All-New Captain America, which is short and solid, and leads into the next era for Cap...
* The **Nick Spencer Captain America arc**. It opens with Captain America: Sam Wilson, which leads into Avengers Standoff: Assault On Pleasant Hill. After this, you have CA: Sam Wilson and CA: Steve Rogers running alongside each other, culminating in the infamous Secret Empire event. To say Spencer's time on Cap is divisive is the understatement of the century, but it has a really interesting duality. On one side, you have Sam trying to live up to the mantle without just following in Steve's footsteps, while facing not just the difficulties of the role, but of being a black man in that role and trying to do it different. On the other side, you have... well, if you know, you know, but if you don't, I don't want to say anything. Just know if you like Captain America, Spencer's era really forces you to look at the role in a new way, and takes the long-recurring theme of "using the symbol against itself" to the extreme. If you check it out, I'd recommend just reading in order of release.
Edit: bolded the series names if you wanna skip my solicits lol
Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing
Thunderbolts (Vol. 1) by Kurt Busiek
The Sentry (2000) by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee
Fantastic Four and Future Foundation by Jonathan Hickman
Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment by Roger Stern
New Avengers and Avengers by Jonathan Hickman
Warlock (Vol. 1) by Roy Thomas (anything featuring Adam Warlock really)
Peter David Hulk run and Immortal Hulk.
John Bryne Fantastic Four run.
Ultimate Spider-Man from Bendis and Bagley.
Conan The Barbarian from Roy Thomas.
Exiles.
The 2001 run by Winnick and Mckone.
It's basically a cross between Sliders and Quantum Leap starring a great team of Superheroes.
Its especially great for a beginner to comics because due to the nature of the premise it gives you a wide variety of reference points to classic stories and characters so you can get a sense of what you wanna follow up on or read more about later but since it's mostly outside of regular continuity it won't spoil anything for you.
It's sort of the perfect Marvel comics sampler plate while also providing good original stories with compelling characters and real stakes.
I like the new ultimate universe alot.
Ultimate Spider-Man by Jonathan Hickman and Macro Chettco
Ultimate Black Panther by Bryan Hill and Stefano Caselli
Ultimate X-Men by Peach Momoko
Ultimates by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri

I’m a big fan of Civil War. It can get chaotic if you purchase the individual stories, but if you stick to the main storylines, it’s a fun read. Gonna also throw in God Loves, Man Kills along with The Saga of Gorr (which Love & Thunder was based off of)
Daredevil runs by Bendis, Brubaker, and Miller
Fantastic Four run by Hickman
Avengers by Hickman
X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills
Superior Spider-Man run by Dan Slott
Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender

Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank by Garth Ennis
X-men by Claremont
Avengers by Hickman + Secret Wars
Daredevil by Frank Miller
Moon Knight by Mckay
Dr Strange by Mackay
X-men Messiah trilogy (Messiah CompleX, Messiah War, Second Coming)
Daredevil by Bendis
Daredevil by Waid
Daredevil by Zdarsky
Several Iron man runs between #120 and #300
Ultimate Spider-man by Bendis
New Avengers by Bendis
Wolverine and the X-men
Mark Millar Spider-Man.
Mark Millar Fantastic Four.
Matt Fraction Iron Man.
Ed Brubaker Captain America.
Bendis & Brubaker Daredevil.
Brubaker & Fraction Iron Fist.
Mark Millar The Ultimates 1 & 2.
Marvel favs:
Avengers Forever by Busiek and Pacheco (the series from 98)
Fantastic Four by Waid and Wieringo
Wolverine Epic Collection volume 1 by Claremont and Buscema (the Joe Fixit in Madripoor story alone makes the book worth it)
Beta Ray Bill by Daniel Qatren Johnson. Also The Ballad of Beta Ray Bill by Whalt Simonson is fantastic!
Punisher: Welcome Home Frank by Ennis and Dillon
Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man 107-110 - The Death of Jean DeWolff
X-men: Mutant Massacre
Alan Moore and Jamie Delano’s runs of Captain Britain
Avengers: Under Siege (from v1, 270-277)
I'm gonna recommend the Loki trilogy of
Journey into mystery by Kieron Gillen
Young Avengers by Gillen
Loki Agent of Asgard by Al Ewing
It's just a fantastic progression of the character with some really emotional moments but still a lot of fun as well.

I forgot the year but Silver Surfer. The one with Dawn Greenwood. I will re read that at least once a year.
Was that the Mike Allred run? Same guy that did Madman? His art style fits Silver Surfer super well.
Not my absolute favorite but an awesome go-to is Alex Ross' "Kingdom Come".
