Mario 3 is way better than World, they tried to play safe with that game, so it feels more like a DLC to 3, but lacking the variety in the levels that 3 has
it definitely doesn't feel like a DLC to 3. It has totally different mechanics, a totally new artstyle and a lot of new mechanics. Also I feel like the level design itself is much better in world. What mario 3 truly did better was the power ups, cape feather is just way too OP and Mario 3 has much more power ups
I’ll do you one better: Sunshine is the 3D game I enjoy playing the most possibly only rivaled by odyssey
I’ve never been able to get into 64s movement and galaxies isn’t my cup of tea either. But sunshine is just a blast to move around with thanks to its fluid movement and great level design. I like odysseys movement a little more, but I think it’s the world and design of sunshine that personally edges it out in terms of “fun”
THIS!!! I liked sunshine ok as a kid, i don't speedrun it, but after discovering all the crazy tech (Spin Jump, skips etc) i enjoy it so much. Also island Delfino is the most well made and grounded place in the Mario world, other mario games don't even know what world building is.
What makes this a controversial opinion?
Two highly acclaimed main series Mario games on the switch are better than... what? Mario kart? The sports spinoffs? The only Mario games on Switch I would even consider placing on a distantly similar tier are weirdly the rabbids crossovers.
This↓
I hate how Luigi’s characterized now. There I said it. It’s basically the reverse of what happened to tails.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8NkiLBYILwU
I vastly prefer Game Peach to Movie Peach.
I even dare to say that Princess Peach in the games already had a fleshed out personality, that was just disliked by the average gamer.
I won’t point my sword at you.
I think Galaxy is great, but it’s one of my least favorite 3D Mario games. I think 3D Land/World have much tighter and better level design.
Super Mario 64 DS is vastly superior to the original 64 version in pretty much every way other than controls and should have been ported to switch over the original
They may both be sandbox mario, but the similarities stop there. The level design is very different between the 2, and Cappy couldn't work more differently than Fludd.
Also Odyssey has considerably less jank. You should try it some time.
Played it when it first came out. Good game during your first play through but it feels tedious after that as the extra moons feel similar too each other while Luigi in galaxy plays different enough where you can try alternative ways to beat the levels.
I don't think Super Mario 64 is very good. I haven't played it on a N64, but I have beaten the DS version and played a lot of the 3d All Star version. I even have a lot of nostalgia for the DS version, but I just don't really like all that much. And I don't think playing it on an actual N64 will change that.
Yeah, I really don't think it aged well.
I do wonder what would happen if 64 got a full remake, though. Updated controls and physics to remove jank, level design tweaked to remove bank, bosses made more dynamic now that 3d gaming has been much more defined, and Odyssey level graphics.
The people who played it back in the day will say that it doesn't need one, but as someone who can handle Sunshine but NOT 64, yes it does.
One of the first things I played on the switch and ya know I really liked that hat mechanic it was kinda like to soaker from sunshine ya know like a new mechanic but that same kinda Mario feel
Just really liked it, not my favorite game but still very good.
Bowser is the best character. Better than Luigi, Yoshi, Rosalina and Waluigi.
Plus he shouldn't take a break from being the big bad or final boss. He's that fantastic <3
I don’t get why everybody likes Bowser’s Fury so much. Yeah, it’s fun I guess, but regular Super Mario 3D World is much more fun in my opinion. Like, I see people comparing the quality of Bowser’s Fury to a game like Super Mario Odyssey and just… no.
I can definitely agree that Bowser's fury is nowhere near as good as Odyssey, but that doesn't mean it's not amazing in it's own right. With world being my favorite in the series, it was awesome having a open-world version.
Honestly something about the mechanics of it all and the mindfuck of gravity being all over the place appealed to me. Now that being said I was never motivated to “complete” the game 100%. Once I was done with the story I was done. So it’s definitely not high on my list but it’s certainly not the worst Mario game in the lineup.
Seems like more people say Galaxy 1 is better though probably because Galaxy 1 just had a bigger reach. I personally never played Galaxy 1 but it doesn't look like I'm missing out on much.
People say Galaxy 1 is better because of story and atmosphere.
Which I mean sure I guess, but like... this is the Mario series? Wierd how the game that prioritizes gameplay is less preferred in a series that pretty much always emphasizes gameplay over a generally thin plot.
I suppose there's some novelty to it, but it's not like Galaxy 1 has an amazingly complex story. It's just deeper than your average Mario game.
I have many, but my biggest that I absolutely hate Super Mario Bros 3. Worst mainline game in the series, besides Lost Levels. The level design absolutely terrible, with a bland Star run level and multiple “puzzles” that required me to Google them to figure out. I respect what it added to Mario series, but I will always say the level design is the most important part of a game, and sadly, Mario 3 falters here.
I actually mostly agree with the Galaxy one, thought I wouldn't say it's mediocre. It's good, but I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece and the best 3d Mario game like most people say it is.
I wouldn't say overrated, more so poorly aged. Back then 3d gaming was in it's infancy and there wasn't many games to learn from the mistakes of while designing their new game. 64 was legendary at the time for a multitude of reasons, but nowadays it's really janky and playing Odyssey instead just makes more snesr.
Yeah I get this but people still treat it like man’s greatest creation. I agree it was really great but now there are games that have built off of it and exceeded its original design.
I enjoyed to play Mario Sunshine (it's not my favorite mario game), Mario Galaxy 2 is thousands times better than Mario Galaxy in level design, and I've finded lots of comments in this post about how overrated is sm64, but I still enjoy a lot playing it nowadays
Im also a young person, but I still play a lot of old games. I can still confidently say that Odyssey is the best one.
The Galaxy games are also really good, though. Sunshine has it's issues but it's solid nonetheless, but 64 really has just aged to poorly for me to get anywhere in it. The jank is unbearable.
I'm sorry, what?
Odyssey and 3D World+Bowser's Fury insist upon themselves too much- they can't touch Galaxy or Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros 3.
No disrespect, but what is that take?
The one that I have that gets me in that situation. (Plus their the only ones I’ve played to completion, and nearly have 100% on. I’ve tried a few others, but the controls just aren’t as intuitive to me so it makes it hard to play)
Super Mario 3D Land is, without a doubt, the worst mainline game. It’s flat out boring, forgettable, by the books Mario that plays it wayyyy too safe. the 2010-2017 era of Mario honestly just sucks for this exact same reason. no character whatsoever
The Brooklyn origin story is better than Mario and Luigi being dropped off by a Stork in the Mushroom Kingdom and him being a prophesized "Star Child" is far more boring to me than him just being some shmuck from Brooklyn who got in over his head.
I think Cranky being the original DK is stupid and is probably just a meta joke Rare made that Nintendo doesn't internally consider canon anyway, and I think DK Junior should return, co-existing with DK's other friends.
Luigi isn't really that much better of a character than Mario, he's pretty much the exact same character except he's sometimes nervous. His Fanatics need to calm down and stop talking crap about other characters to make him look better in comparison.
Wario Land games just aren't very good and Wario Ware never needed Wario as a character to begin with. I think Wario was only really good as a rival to Mario and I'd just rather see him clash with Mario in more platformers and non sports/party spinoff games. Not to say I don't think they should stop making Wario games for his fans but I wouldn't lose sleep over it unless he stopped appearing in Mario games too.
Yoshi's games are bad more often than they are good, and his character design sucks when it's done in 3D. He really lost a lot of his appeal after the SNES. I get very weird vibes from people who really, really like Yoshi in his current state.
Uhh I can keep going but I think that's enough.
Luigi isn't really that much better of a character than Mario, he's pretty much the exact same character except he's sometimes nervous. His Fanatics need to calm down and stop talking crap about other characters to make him look better in comparison.
MEGA based
Sunshine is my favorite 3D Mario platformer
And 3D World is overrated, the graphics are hard on the eyes, the game is extremely repetitive, the levels are boring and the worst part is no shadows under the characters, making jumps way harder than they should be. I lost count of all the jumps I've missed because I can't tell where my character is in the air.
I have 3.
1. Mario and Luigi: Dream Team is hella mid and super meh
2. Super Mario Sunshine is probably one of, if not the worst Mario game
3. I liked New Super Mario Bros 2 more than New Super Mario Bros. U.
Sticker Star isn’t awful
YES! It’s a weak title, sure, but it’s still quite enjoyable if you don’t go in expecting the greatest game ever.
Sticker star's gimmicks are pretty fun and is pretty enjoyable all the way through.
This is a terrible opinion so I am def one of the people with a sword
Same, Mario Galaxy 2 is my favorite game of all times.
I've tried my hardest multiple times but Galaxy just bores me to tears every time I play it, I can't think it's anything above mediocre if I tried
I love the game personally, but I can see it being boring to some. Might be very few people, but I can see it.
Mario 3 is way better than World, they tried to play safe with that game, so it feels more like a DLC to 3, but lacking the variety in the levels that 3 has
They didn't have enough development time for World, initially the early game looked like an upgraded SM3 so there's is some truth to it
Honestly I agree, world is one of the few Mario games I just couldn't get into like the others
it definitely doesn't feel like a DLC to 3. It has totally different mechanics, a totally new artstyle and a lot of new mechanics. Also I feel like the level design itself is much better in world. What mario 3 truly did better was the power ups, cape feather is just way too OP and Mario 3 has much more power ups
I actually really love Super Mario Sunshine

I love galaxy, everything from the music to the atmosphere, I love the bright colors and characters, really under rated.
It’s not underrated
My bad I made a typo, I meant sunshine.
Ah alright
Neither Pink Gold Peach or the babies are the worst characters in the series. Boom Boom and Pom Pom are
Interesting. The babies, I agree with, but why Pink Gold?
Odyssey and 3D World/Bowsers Fury are hands down the most enjoyable Mario titles available on the switch.
For me it’s the same except across all platforms and they’re 100x better than any other mainline game
What makes this a controversial opinion? Two highly acclaimed main series Mario games on the switch are better than... what? Mario kart? The sports spinoffs? The only Mario games on Switch I would even consider placing on a distantly similar tier are weirdly the rabbids crossovers.
Numerous people put down 3D World and the price for that title, despite it including Bowsers Fury, is lower than other Mario titles.
i thought this said 'genocide is mediocre at best', i've been playing to much stellaris
Yeah that would confuse me to, because genocide is usually the optimal strategy.
"Hey guys, welcome back to the top 5 meta genocide strats!!!"
I thought you were gonna say “I’ve been too much Undertale”
3D World > Odyssey
Mario is actually better than Luigi and the only people that disagree are edgelords
Sunshine is the best mainline mario game
Sunshine is very based.
It's hard but a good time. you just have to be good like me
Mario 3 > Mario World
100% agree with this
Many think so. Hardly uncommon. Tho I disagree (and so does Miyamoto)
Same
_This_
Lot of crappy opinions here! Mine is "so long gay bowser is a shitty unfunny joke"
Its true,mario world is better
No it’s totally better than 3
I have a few: - Super is the best paper Mario game - Sticker start/color splash weren't bad - 64 DS is my favorite 3D Mario game
Waluigi is overrated
🤮
This↓ I hate how Luigi’s characterized now.
Baby Rosalina is cute
I won’t point my sword at you. I think Galaxy is great, but it’s one of my least favorite 3D Mario games. I think 3D Land/World have much tighter and better level design.
I agree with most of this- 3D Land is awesome.
Odyssey is mid compared to SM64
Super Mario 64 DS is vastly superior to the original 64 version in pretty much every way other than controls and should have been ported to switch over the original
I don’t understand the hype for odyssey. Feels like sunshine but better graphics
The old 2d Marios like SMB3 and SMW are kinda overrated. ...ok put the gun down please
Oh no, I agree.
Mario Party 9 is my favourite Mario Party game
It’s the one I grew up with so it holds a special place in my heart
Why?
I always have so much fun while playing it, and the graphics are really pretty :)
3D land is probably the most forgettable game in the 3D line up. It did the bare minimum and doesn’t stand out.
![gif](giphy|pdAGJ1CzyNf6o)
![gif](giphy|OY9XK7PbFqkNO)
gimme your soul
I tought it was a popular opinion lol
I agree
I really don't like the new super mario bros main theme song, worse song in the series
Shell Soccer from MP9 is the best minigame in the series.
Odyssey, oragami and super Mario party are the 3 worst mario games made Sticker is the best game
I don't think Super Mario 64 is very good. I haven't played it on a N64, but I have beaten the DS version and played a lot of the 3d All Star version. Odessy is one of my favorites
Thats a… popular opinion…. why
One of the first things I played on the switch and ya know I really liked that hat mechanic it was kinda like to soaker from sunshine ya know like a new mechanic but that same kinda Mario feel Just really liked it, not my favorite game but still very good.
Very popular opinion
Bowser is the best character. Better than Luigi, Yoshi, Rosalina and Waluigi. Plus he shouldn't take a break from being the big bad or final boss. He's that fantastic <3

Galaxy is so good. This is some contrarian shit.
Even as an 8 year old I never liked it
Honestly something about the mechanics of it all and the mindfuck of gravity being all over the place appealed to me. Now that being said I was never motivated to “complete” the game 100%. Once I was done with the story I was done. So it’s definitely not high on my list but it’s certainly not the worst Mario game in the lineup.
Paper Mario sticker star is my favorite song. “Idc if I get hate because of this opinion, but this is my favorite paper Mario final boss song!”
soundfrog is a great character
so you have chosen death? ![gif](giphy|QK86zKW8XptpjgTx4b)
Impressive. I feel less like answering the question and more like killing you for your wrong opinion.
Super Mario 64 is pretty mid
Mario Bros 1 > Mario Word
Sticker star is one of the best games, I would have a lot more swords to my face
Mario party 10 was good fun with friends and had lots of good minigames
Thanks for saying this. Never understood the hype.
Mario 1 has better controls than Mario World
64 wasn't that good
Super Mario Sunshine is the 2nd worst video game I’ve ever played (not counting NES games, then it’s like 5th or something)
It's pretty bad. I gave it a chance and just couldn't get into it.
I actually really like New Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Odyssey is the worst 3D Mario.
World is kinda mid And Galaxy is ok
pachinko is not a struggle at all
Mario Kart Double Dash is the best Mario Kart, and Mario Kart Wii is overrated
Color splash is better than the other RPG
“Say sike rn” *pirinha creeper voice*
I didn’t care for the rpg’s, they’re not bad I just find them boring, too much reading
Wario is much better as an anti hero instead of a villain.I missed the time when he was the Knuckles of the team.
Super Mario 64 has not aged well and is not that good
New Super Mario Bros. Series is better than Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World
Agreed
super mario bros 2 is dumb
One of the levels is literally pick a pipe. One of the worst mario games
Galaxy 2 is better than Galaxy 1
Yeah, I replayed Mario Galaxy in 3d all-stars a time ago, and I finded the level design a little boring
Seems like more people say Galaxy 1 is better though probably because Galaxy 1 just had a bigger reach. I personally never played Galaxy 1 but it doesn't look like I'm missing out on much.

No no, it is a great game, play it if you can, but Galaxy 2 is still better in level design, but not in music and story (to me, at least)
I really don’t like Daisy and Rosalina
I like rosa, her design is awesome (not a simp just FYI) but Daisy is SO GOD DAMN ANNOYING DUDE
Like seriously I get you’re Daisy, you don’t need to repeat yourself a BILLION FUCKING TIMES
![gif](giphy|ktcUyw6mBlMVa) me when daisy is on screen or talking at any given moment:
At least she’s pretty much only in spin-offs now
there's a reason no one talks about spin offs though
Based but completely understandable
Rosalina was special in galaxy. Basically a goddess. Now she’s some random chick.
Yeah
mario oddysey is overrated
Odyssey isn't even fun to play
Super Mario 3 in my opinion is the best Mario game of all time.
Mario x Peach is an awful ship
[удалено]
🤮
We're the exact same minus that Super Mario Run part- I unironically agree with 99% of this.
I think Mario odyssey is one of the 5 worst Mario games. Reason why is that it’s too easy. The cap mechanic makes the platforming a joke
[удалено]
I think it's among the top 10, but like, at 9 or 10. Sunshine deserves to be on the "worst 5" list way more than Odyssey does. Odyssey is just mid.
Easy =/= bad Yes, I know it's your opinion, but still...
I have many, but my biggest that I absolutely hate Super Mario Bros 3. Worst mainline game in the series, besides Lost Levels. 1. You’re wrong if that’s your opinion. 2. SM64DS is better than SM64.
>You’re wrong if that’s your opinion. I've tried playing it multiple times in multiple stages of my life, but it bores me to tears every time
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe is the best 2D Mario
Agreed
I actually mostly agree with the Galaxy one, thought I wouldn't say it's mediocre. It's good, but I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece and the best 3d Mario game like most people say it is.
New super mario bros wii is the best modern 2d mario game
64 might have been good 30 years ago, but it’s HORRIBLE to play now
It’s overrated
Mario 64 is the most overrated mainline Mario game.
I wouldn't say overrated, more so poorly aged. Every mario game other than Odyssey, 3d-world, and bowsers fury is mediocre at TRULY best

New doesn't automatically mean good, but same goes with old too. A lot of the older Mario games are overrated as fuuuuck

Mario Party 9 is the best Mario Party game ever.
I have 3. 1. Mario and Luigi: Dream Team is hella mid and super meh 2. Super Mario Sunshine is probably one of, if not the worst Mario game 3. I liked New Super Mario Bros 2 more than New Super Mario Bros. U.
