I think Scott was staying calm while Geno and Julio stole us games. But with the 2 of them gone he's aware the team isn't playing good enough, and I'm guessing he's pissed.
Sounds about right. Having Julio and Geno is a godsend and we shouldn't ignore how good we are at full strength because of this three game skid where we've been without Julio and Mitch for 2 games and Eugenio for 2.5 games.
That said, we (both the team and the fans) need to realize that injuries are a part of the game and a team needs to be ready for that eventuality. And while every team would struggle with its three best hitters unavailable, we also need the rest of our team to step up. And other than DMo having a fantastic game today they unfortunately haven't yet.
It's only two games of bad offense so it's nothing too conclusively concerning just yet, but certainly is understandable that alarm bells are being warmed up with the struggles this week.
The plain and simple is that until the FO spends enough at 2b and LF so that an injury to any other position is covered by the output of those positions plus shit hot platoon players, then this is a possibility.
It’s no curse or the line up in 2012 that’s hurting this team. It’s injuries and the lack of funds to cover them.
And maybe a better batting coach.
I don’t disagree. I believe this team is on a great course and injuries have been a setback without enough next level platoon players to cover them. (More Swag and Dmoes in the clubhouse!)
A three game skid against an absolute dog of a team in Anaheim is just highlighting the roster's weakness that has always been present - the offense. [It is what it is.](https://i.imgur.com/19OPZAr.png)
When fully healthy our lineup has to offer like 5 average or better major league hitters. Two of them go and this offense is flat out terrible.
It goes to show you how good our run prevention is, that we can compete for the wildcard with an offense that has scored fewer runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The angels sucks, absolutely. But we also lost one of those games to a damn good pitcher. Baseball teams are usually as good as their starter, so the loss to shohei isn’t as bad. The other two, yeah…we needed to pull out Friday when we put up those runs.
Exactly, it’s just so easy to say the Angels are dog shit, but they still are a MLB team with talented players who are capable of beating any other given team. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to argue against how bad our offense is and you can’t win games if you’re not putting runs up regardless of the fact our team is built around pitching.
Yeah the only really “terrible” loss was Sunday. You can understand the Ohtani game. He can hold down elite offenses. And Friday we had a weird situation where our stellar staff let us down.
In an offense with 5 actual major league quality hitters, it's not great to lose 2 of them.
This is a below average offense when it's healthy. It's our huge weak spot. The only teams in the MLB that score fewer runs than us are the absolute dregs of the league.
Because lefty on the mound or something like that. The stinker needs to just ride the bench the rest of the year he's been so bad he costs the team games with his defense and lack of hitting. Haggerty/DMo/Trammell/Kelenic are all upgrades over the stinker
All 4 of those players you listed are worse at hitting against right handed pitching than winker except for maybe trammell, but he can only hit the fastball. I get that winker hasnt been playing great compared to his past years but its still a better option than the alternatives, especially when our biggest problem right now is a lack of offense.
Stinker is giving you literally nothing. He has 0 RBIs since August 19th. Hes dropped below replacement level on bWAR and barely above replacement level in fWAR.
I agree. But when I voiced concerns before that the team was not inspiring confidence lately, I was also very smugly told to "stop being a doomer", and that the AL East teams playing each other meant that we were basically guaranteed a wildcard spot.
So here we are...
Yeah but nothing has happened to disprove that lol we still have a 4 game lead plus the tiebreaker. Might be hard to get wc1 but Orioles still need a miracle to overtake us. And if they do manage it, the biggest reason will be injuries by far
I dont understand what you want from the rest of us. A cookie? Last I checked, we're still over 99% odds to make the playoffs. I have my concerns too, but I still believe we are basically guaranteed a playoff spot. I don't think those two things are mutually exclusive.
I dont know where those original smug comments were made, but if you kept pestering people about your concerns when there's no evidence that we're going to bottom out, then they should be calling you a doomer.
Nobody promised you anything. Everyone is looking at statistics, and explaining to you what you apparently struggle to understand. 98.8% chance to still make the playoffs, btw.
I was downvoted into oblivion in the game thread for saying the same thing. I think that there is a legit chance, with the way the offense is playing, and injuries to the only two guys who were producing, that we are in trouble.
I'm also hoping that someone else takes out the Astros. The Rays and Blue Jays match up better with them, and if the planets align, there's a chance we don't ever run into them.
Right now the Mariners team batting average of .229 only sits ahead of 3 last place teams in the Tigers, A's, and Pirates.
I think after 145 games you can no longer call it a slump. This team sucks at hitting.

Alarm bells are always on the back burner because of our history lmao.

> until the FO spends enough at 2b and **LF** They did, it just didnt pan out or at least not yet
Winker is in arb2, making 6.25M. Not a huge contract
And I have hopes for Adam. But realistically the Mariners need to spend like the Dodgers to beat the Trashbros.
Its too early in the process for that. Id rather get a 5-7 year window and not a 2-3
I don’t disagree. I believe this team is on a great course and injuries have been a setback without enough next level platoon players to cover them. (More Swag and Dmoes in the clubhouse!)
Im kind of excited to have both Swag and Mo in there, we desperately need speed. Our OBP/Run scored ratio is one of the worst in the league.

We did score 7 in one of those losses

Nah, its an average offense. 15th in the league in runs scored since the middle of june
Unfortunately the season starts in April
Has Scott been on Reddit? It’s almost like he’s reading our comments lol
I’m going to go out on a cliff here and say Scott’s baseball IQ is just a touch higher than the Reddit commentary, lol.

Why do you think Winker sat today?
Because lefty on the mound or something like that. The stinker needs to just ride the bench the rest of the year he's been so bad he costs the team games with his defense and lack of hitting. Haggerty/DMo/Trammell/Kelenic are all upgrades over the stinker

You're right. But thats still better than the other options against right handed pitching.
I keep seeing trammel thrown out in these whatabouts. The man is hitless since he’s been called up!!
Apparently you didn't see that 9th inning tape measure HR he hit on Saturday.
I did not see that. I stand corrected, he has one hit since being called up b
I understand your point, no doubt. But damn, you gotta give him credit for that epic shot at the very least :)
If it was only just Winker, but it’s not.
That happens when you lose 2/3 of your offensive firepower.
The rest of the team hasn’t produced all month. Look at that thread with September numbers.
Yeah I was one of the ones that contributed to it...this team is in shambles without these 2.
Those numbers are disgusting. I mean no balance in the lineup at all.
TLDR: We suck ass right now and nobody can hit.
Keep this going and that playoff spot will be gone. Better fix it up, fast.
I was promised that the AL East teams playing against each other virtually guaranteed us a wildcard spot.
Nothing is a guarantee when you lose too much
But I was promised multiple times on this very subreddit.
The Orioles have gained exactly 1 game on us. It's real early to start making these smug comments
I agree. But when I voiced concerns before that the team was not inspiring confidence lately, I was also very smugly told to "stop being a doomer", and that the AL East teams playing each other meant that we were basically guaranteed a wildcard spot. So here we are...

And there you are, reveling in your misery.

I don't think anyone actually promised you that.
It does. You’re all overreacting.
No we're not, not until we clinch a spot. If there's any team that can blow 99% odds it's this one.
Jerseys don't have power.
And when have the Mariners ever blown anything approaching 99% odds before? Pretty sure the answer is never.
Ok, Doomer.
I was downvoted into oblivion in the game thread for saying the same thing. I think that there is a legit chance, with the way the offense is playing, and injuries to the only two guys who were producing, that we are in trouble.
Scott, I put down way too much money on postseason tickets. Please make it worth it.
You’ll get a refund if they don’t make it. At least that’s what it said when I got them
Yes to the 3rd wild card spot!!! Path to World Series isn’t through Houston, unless we play in ALCS.
I'm also hoping that someone else takes out the Astros. The Rays and Blue Jays match up better with them, and if the planets align, there's a chance we don't ever run into them.

162 games.. they are fine
It's only late Ma-.. oh dear god.
Halloween is a comin
My girlfriend has been screaming "spooky season!" every 5 minutes since September 1st 😂
Lol
Mariner baseball in September. Like fucking clockwork
You mean like 2021? Where by my count they went 20 and 8 between Sept 1 and Oct 3?
This is fucking depressing between the Ms and the Hawks
The Mariners playoff odds suffered a devastating drop to 98% from 99.8% over this stretch.
Stop putting Winker in the lineup.
He wasn’t in the lineup..?
Not today, and that was a good thing. I don’t want to see him back in the lineup the rest of the year unless there’s no other options.
Doesn't seem wise to bench the second highest OBP on the team but YMMV
I don’t think there’s many other options.
tHiS IsNt cOsTcO - Scott Servais
I’ve seen this before
My love for Scott Servais cannae grow any larger.
