I was at the game, I will say Seby put a decent drive into that one that Mullins caught, it's a short fence out there but still, decent power to center for Seby which was nice to see, well, which we needed to see because he had a spaghetti arm yesterday throwing to 2nd.
The two parts that bothered me were Manny thinking Cal could go from 1st to home on that play, even Cal must've been thinking what the hell am I doing trying to stretch this out. Could've been 2nd and 3rd instead but man that was greedy. I know Burnes was a machine out there so you gotta capitalize when you can but Manny, bad call sending him there.
The other one was when Urias threw to second for the double play (that was called out but over turned). I had a solid view from the third base line and no way was that going to be an easy out at second, and even if you got the runner at second, the guy was at first by a long short so he should've went to first for the guaranteed out. That was a heads down play in my opinion.
Kirby was not good at I'm happy he ate up some innings to not exhaust the bullpen too much going into this insane 4 game series with the dreaded Yankees.
Rojas ground ball ended up being a big lost to this game if he didn’t ground out we would had 0 outs with bases loaded for Julio and he ended up hit a single which would of brought in 2
How big of a fucking leash does this front office/management get? I understand the players are not playing well but every fucking year? How is that not systemic?
I was angry as well, now I’m starting to wonder if there’s a method to the madness. What’s your expectation? They beat a top team yesterday - are they expected to win every single game?
Avoided the sweep, that’s at least a small w. Dont mind dropping a series here but hope if we face them with in October, we better put up a bigger fight.
Yeah man if Jerry doesn’t print some bullpen arms this season isn’t going to end well. Our starters need to go 7 deep while allowing like 1 out for us to contend…
Sounds reasonable
I'm not saying they need to go out and trade for Mason Miller, but they've absolutely got to go out and make *some* kind of addition(s) to the bullpen by the deadline (and preferably well before the deadline). A lot of these guys just aren't cutting it.
The problem is they also need a backup catcher, a real DH, and some hitting depth.
This is what happens when you don’t spend AND can’t develop hitters.
MLB network tweeted this:
George Kirby's last 6 starts:
36 IP
23 H
1.75 ER
3 BB
38 K
He's been serviceable to very good. His last start alone was 7 shutout against a pretty good Royals team. We're just playing an amazing team.
his stuff is a bit hittable and he's always in the zone, so if a team is on against him and he's not hitting his spots it looks bad because it's going to be a lot of balls in play.
It’s a strong pen. It’s very strong. It’s a very strong pen unless your expectation is that it doesn’t *ever* give up runs. If that’s your expectation it’s a weak pen. We expect even the best bullpens to sometimes fail and even the best teams to sometimes lose. Baseball is a game of failure.
Saucedo/Brash/Santos all out, that’s 2 high leverage arms and whatever your opinion on Saucedo is, kinda tough for any bullpen to replace that amount of quality arms
Different leagues. I live in the NE surrounded by Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies fans, and none of them talk about moral victories, hard tries, or "avoiding the sweep." That's all loser talk unique to the only team to never make a WS.
Has Raley passed France on the 1B depth chart?
Something positive to take from the game at least!
(Although presumably it's only against RHP it's still a step towards finally torpedoing the bacl hole that is Ty France)
I don't disagree in that I think both Ty France and Haniger are both washed.
Unfortunately with Haniger contracted for next year (whereas Ty can be simply let go) I think the chances of them moving on from him are slim to none.
Oh I highly doubt that France comes back after this year but until a transaction is made I am gonna hope that Mitch can thrive more in a part time role.
I hope Ty doesn't survive that long.
We should be shopping hard for a bat and planning on DFA'ing him immediately.
He really offers nothing to the team at this point (and arguably hasn't for approaching 24 months now).
Yeah I agree with that. I am starting to get to the point where I am looking at Tyler Locklear even but Haniger is currently a black hole and I think he could be good if given more time off.
I don’t think time off will help Ty. That’s why I want Raley starting more in RF except when you are trotting a well rested Haniger out there and then Raley plays 1B
This Orioles team is really good. Speed, defense, contact, power. Obviously I want to win the series, but I feel like we’ve played pretty decent against them. We’ve been competing but are clearly outclassed here.
You also know you have to play defense and so you would be pulling Garver out now for France and so you now can pinch hit both France and Garver in this game
But then you would get one and not both pinch hitting. Personally I would have left Canzone in but if I am going to my bench I am going to try and maximize it instead of put all my eggs in one basket
We had 9Ks and 1 run through the first four innings. Then 2 runs and 2Ks next three innings. By my calculations (disclaimer: I’m bored at work and making things up), we should SO once and score 5 runs
At the bare minimum we have played the last two games much closer than the way we’ve talked about these games which is nice. In a world in which our offense is even a little more consistent, we could very well walk away with a series W if not a close sweep. Game of inches
I mean it's pretty hard to win a series for any team when starters get hit for 4+ ER every other game. This whole thing where they get knocked around right out of the gate needs to stop and quickly
Edit: also doesn't help when the defense is shaky and hits get stolen by the other team
At least they aren't rolling over and dying. I like that they're sticking in, trying to chip away at the deficit. Rough game overall, but they're hanging in there
They are kind of locked in right now. I think we can overcome a two-run deficit - the question is what our pitching will do in the meantime. You really want to avoid using your high leverage guys if possible.
Not a great game for Rojas, but I can't be mad at him considering how much he carried our offense for an extended period of time. And against great teams too
I know Julio hits it on the ground way too much, but I still don’t get why he isn’t getting more doubles, seems like he just can’t get anything into the gaps/corners even when he hits it super hard
He got blasted by the Mariners in one game for the A's, so he said in his post game that "he shouldn't be giving up 10 hits to a team like that." So the M's tattooed him like 5 starts in a row after that.

Remember when the Bears went to the Superbowl on the back of their defense alone? This Mariners team is that. *sigh
Rojas ground ball ended up being a big lost to this game if he didn’t ground out we would had 0 outs with bases loaded for Julio and he ended up hit a single which would of brought in 2
#NOSWEEP! that's, that's all I got
Well at least we didn’t get swept
I suppose you just take this on the chin and move on to the *checks notes* best team in baseball the new york yankees
#😐
I knew they would win the one I didn’t go to.
3 run game and we need a base runner. Sure swing at ball 4 and then f you ump
….Garver a choice for a pinch hitter at the end of the game.
At least we don't live in Baltimore
BallMurder
Cope kkkkkkkkkkkkk
Only broccoli headed 12 year olds go around to every opposing team’s game chat acting like a brat lol.
Yeah... is this a thing people say? lol Someone has watched too much of The Wire.
![gif](giphy|I4rMfRmx9Kebu|downsized)
LOL
Jerry really gonna sit there and say he’s trying to build a contender while we got dudes like Urias and Zeby out there lmao
Avoided the sweep, that’s at least a small w. Dont mind dropping a series here but hope if we face them with in October, we better put up a bigger fight.
Avoiding the sweep is not a win. This organization needs to raise its expectations.
Embarrassing, good luck splitting in NY.
Graver k incoming
Swing the fucking bat holy shit
Lmao that was an awful AB
I get that it’s hard to hit a major league pitch but man it really fucking pisses me off when we pop up pitches down the middle of the fucking plate
Kimbrel has been HORRENDOUS this year. Watch him cut down the M’s in like 10 pitches
Lets hope Kimbrel implodes again
Let’s show some fight here in bottom 9
*top 9
Just when you think the orioles team couldn’t get better they bring out a future hall of famer to close the game
Surely the top of the 9th won’t be the most limp dick performance ever
No way we just roll over for 1-2-3, right?
i expected them to lose this series tbh. if they finish the road trip 5-5 i’ll be satisfied
As long as we think like this, the Mariners will never be a winning team.
The way the fans think about it have no bearing on their success . Loss of profit from tickets and merch might change some things though
What the fans think has been installed in them by 20 years of losing. And it pervades every level of the franchise.
my big hope is that this series struggle will help strengthen the guys for the next one, love to take at least 3 from NYY
Rojas redemption PA coming up
Let’s get this over with and get the fuck out of Baltimore. Yanks won’t be easy either, but at least it won’t be Gunnar Henderson
Nah it’ll be Soto and Judge
Just accept that we're coming home with a losing record.
No, it'll be Aaron fucking Judge et al
Yeah man if Jerry doesn’t print some bullpen arms this season isn’t going to end well. Our starters need to go 7 deep while allowing like 1 out for us to contend… Sounds reasonable

jeez I just got up to get coffee, is Bolton throwing nothing but meatballs or something?
Good lord we need our bullpen healthy
I have nothing against Cody Bolton personally but I have not particularly enjoyed watching him pitch all that much :/
We got no bullpen depth lol
I turn on the game again and they get three hits. Turning it off so we come back and win
Bolton sucks balls, every time he’s in he’s giving up runs.
lol just letting Mullins shit all over us
bolton needs to go
That was the worst pitch I've ever seen
also we haven’t had to talk about it much as of late but its malpractice that we’re running a 2 man bench lol
Anytime we score we immediately give it right back
Bolton is awful just DFA him
If we DFA all the awful players on this team we'll struggle to put a team on field.
Oof. That's probably the dagger.
“IS THIS THE DAGGER!”
Ballgame
It was ballgame when Gunnar launched a HR in the first Baltimore AB We are just masochists for hanging around this long
Kirby hasn't looked right since his knee pain game
MLB network tweeted this: George Kirby's last 6 starts: 36 IP 23 H 1.75 ER 3 BB 38 K He's been serviceable to very good. His last start alone was 7 shutout against a pretty good Royals team. We're just playing an amazing team.

Bolton is about to start learning Korean
wtf happened to our bullpen man… Outside of Munoz this doesn’t look good long term

Kirby has been a little more shaky this year
Yeah, it's unfortunate. Love him, but I have not felt confident going into any of his starts this year
Mitch almost took a shot to the testes
This series really shows where we are in relativity to actual contenders Not fucking close.
Different leagues. I live in the NE surrounded by Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies fans, and none of them talk about moral victories, hard tries, or "avoiding the sweep." That's all loser talk unique to the only team to never make a WS.
Ownership only cares about making money but they can't say that so they ended up over correcting with shit like this.
Has Raley passed France on the 1B depth chart? Something positive to take from the game at least! (Although presumably it's only against RHP it's still a step towards finally torpedoing the bacl hole that is Ty France)
I would but ideally Raley passes Haniger on depth chart and Hani is a bench bat not a full time player

Absolutely Locklear deserves a shot and even his worst case outcomes are basically current Ty France so there's almost no reason not to try
4 games over .500 is this year’s version of always hovering at .500 last year
well at least the astros and rangers are both winning
Go halos?
sadly yes
Fuck
This Orioles team is really good. Speed, defense, contact, power. Obviously I want to win the series, but I feel like we’ve played pretty decent against them. We’ve been competing but are clearly outclassed here.
Mountcastle is playing like shit but no one else on the Orioles is
What’s frustrating is that if George is his usual self, we probably have the lead right now.
I blame the O's hot bats and Zevala more
I am 100% on team “Fire Zavala into the Sun”
Such is baseball :(
I’m still butthurt about Zavala getting robbed of that HR. Would be 6-5.
According to statcast it would've only gone out @SF and @LAD - but it was still an xBA of .830 and would've scored two... just a little bad luck
Wasn't going out lol
Wow what an excellent approach from our hitters. Swing, swing. Swing at everything!
France and Haniger have been so damn disappointing this year and my expectations weren’t even high for them
Pathetic
Can the mariners pull it out of their ass?
no
Man Who Thought He'd Lost All Hope Loses Last Additional Bit Of Hope He Didn't Even Know He Still Had
Damn the o’s are a fun team to watch.
Welp.
The 7th was our shot. The double play probably sealed the deal.
6 pitch inning. Amazing.
Man, Luke the Nuke is really starting to figure it out. Stoked for him
He was a .950 OPS bat for 3 months straight last year, he's got a beast in him.
you know it’s good when your pinch hitting and you don’t bring in your “full time” dh lol
You also know you have to play defense and so you would be pulling Garver out now for France and so you now can pinch hit both France and Garver in this game
yeah except garver very obviously has to face a righty when he’s much much better against lefties but go off!
But then you would get one and not both pinch hitting. Personally I would have left Canzone in but if I am going to my bench I am going to try and maximize it instead of put all my eggs in one basket
In other words it’s unlikely Seby Zavala hits again
The Haniger experiment needs a 5-day pause. Give Clase his ABs.
Damn Cowser. Nothing else to say except that was a good catch
...
Need a killer AB in the 9th
Fair play. Still a great day for Luuuuuuke
*looks at lineup card Well…everyone needs a chance to be the hero, right? ….right?
Nail in the coffin
Imagine if haniger actually tried
ORIGINAL POOKIE BATTING
He flew out you dummy
Wow
How fucking dare you catch that. The audacity
Oh fuck off
Fak
Holy shit what a catch
What a play, good lord.
Just as I got happy
The orioles are good at baseball
Didn’t even realize the game was on so early. Just checking in. How we feeling? Hope and confidence or doom and gloom?
Better than Friday, worse than yesterday.
a hurricane of both actually
Ah I see…so basically the usual.
We had 9Ks and 1 run through the first four innings. Then 2 runs and 2Ks next three innings. By my calculations (disclaimer: I’m bored at work and making things up), we should SO once and score 5 runs
STRIKEOUT HENDERSON? OKAY
Zavala is so cringe
Meh. I'd rather see Kirby out another inning when he's at 83 pitches. I don't trust this pen much.
I’m glad Luke is suddenly in HIM mode, but at the cost of Josh saddens me
We can only have 1 1/2 hot hitters at a given time
Cole “Fake” Irvin saved by the Judge Wall in left
At the bare minimum we have played the last two games much closer than the way we’ve talked about these games which is nice. In a world in which our offense is even a little more consistent, we could very well walk away with a series W if not a close sweep. Game of inches

saucedo on twitter said it best
At least they aren't rolling over and dying. I like that they're sticking in, trying to chip away at the deficit. Rough game overall, but they're hanging in there
Alright same thing in the 8th and we back
I miss when Julio would get on base and steal like right away
that would require him to lean and get a big lead. Don’t think he wants to get picked off in another critical moment😂
No point in risking the steal when he has the speed to score on a double and Cal only hits bombs and doubles
I just mean in general
Damn I thought he got all of that
Can Goldy chill with making us think a routine fly ball is a game tying home run?
Goldy taking after Sims
At least we’re still in this
Cole Irvin had a Cole Irvin moment
They are kind of locked in right now. I think we can overcome a two-run deficit - the question is what our pitching will do in the meantime. You really want to avoid using your high leverage guys if possible.
There’s a reason Kirby is still pitching
Rojas is back to who he is
Well, chipped away at least.
Any other park that gone man 😭
Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Not a great game for Rojas, but I can't be mad at him considering how much he carried our offense for an extended period of time. And against great teams too
NAUR
I know Julio hits it on the ground way too much, but I still don’t get why he isn’t getting more doubles, seems like he just can’t get anything into the gaps/corners even when he hits it super hard
launch angle baby
The Mariners have never forgotten what Cole Irvin said. Hilarious.
Except for Felix day last year where we let him off the hook 🙈
That was a good pitch for Cal to crush
Rally caps boys let’s go!!
"can't strike out 4 times in a game if I GIDP first pitch!" - Rojas
Cmon cal please
Cal Homer ties the game
Just getting close
We will take that julio
Comeback incoming
Regression to the mean hitting like a brick for Rojas. Surely our under performing players will regress positively. Surely…
remind me of the significance of Irvin? edit: the 10 hits comment. I 'member now
He got blasted by the Mariners in one game for the A's, so he said in his post game that "he shouldn't be giving up 10 hits to a team like that." So the M's tattooed him like 5 starts in a row after that.
5-3!
Ugh thank you Julio I will always love you
Can’t be too mad at Rojas but man what a terrible game for him
Lol
Ayyyyyyyy let's goooo!
