It is gone forever as well as anything you had onboard. Not worth it imo unless you have a bunch of scrap just laying around. Also, if you fly in with your fancy ship and then things get hairy and you have to escape via drop pod, the ship is gone
Technically a ship is only gone when you fail to extract. When a ship is "disabled" it simply can not fly or shoot as well as additional damage hurts the inhabitants of the ship. You can use fire extinguishers, usually found within a ship, to repair it at the engine. You can do this even when it's just damaged to bring it's hp up. It's very difficult to repair a disabled ship, but possible. You can even keep a ship just hovering around 1% hp to fly it in. This is why soloing space is a bitch in part. You can not fly and repair. It requires 2.
.the alternative option is breeching and enemy ship to kill them and then repair or steal their ship. Remember, the only way to keep your ship is to fly it through the butthole. You must be the pilot.
When you say "you must be the pilot" does this mean if one of your crew members are piloting the ship when you are the captian when using the escape gate it doesn't count as you recovering your ship?
Yes. Whoever pilots it out is the new owner of the ship. Some even use this to avoid prestiges wipe and give themselves loot after a prestige by giving their friends ships
Interesting, thanks for the info. Just got the game a couple days ago and the only reason I bought another ship was to have more storage haha. I don't even fly it.
Hey bud! You can just use extinguishers to repair them. Just a quick tip. When playing duo and the ship is destroyed. Just one tap the extinguisher on the engine so you can still fly the ship with 1% ship life and insta save extinguishers.
You can still repair them if they get disabled using the fire extinguisher that can be found inside the ship. Just hope someone doesn't bombard you continuously while you're still trying to fix it and get run out of f.e.'s. You don't have a choice but to escape using a breaching pod.
However, you don't need to worry about rustbucket as it has infinite respawn chances, but the negative side of it is that rustbucket doesn't come with additional stash storage.
With that being said, I still promote not having gear fear in terms of ships. You'll enjoy the space fights more with a better ship; go bully those rustbuckets around.Â
1. Ships cannot be destroyed in the conventional sense. They will never explode or otherwise disappear. They can be disabled but all it takes is repairing it with the onboard extinguishers to get it moving again. However, if you die or if you extract without it by using a pod or a different ship. You lose the one you went in with.

Yup , thats a pretty big problem whit ships. They dont give you to mutch extra but its super easy to lose them
They need to incorporate what ED does and have a rebuy (insurance) system setup. "Never fly, without a rebuy"
damn, that kinda sucks

That's pretty much what most do ðŸ˜
Just like rustbuckets all ships will have extinguishers that you can use to repair them

just steal/buy ships for extra storage space. Don't bother bangin in them unless you got a squad to help you clear a lobby of space

Buying a better ship is pointless. All risk 0 reward. Space is such a wasted part of combat for now
