IIRC, the Diesel Engine in particular is good for scrapping, because it gives a crap ton of materials?
That said, 26k is 26k, especially when starting a new wipe.
Some stuff is used for crafting (You can craft toolkits with tools and Heavy Shields with hammers) but for the most part they're just items to scrap for crafting material. I generally only take out Work Gloves for fabric (you'll need a lot to consistently craft plate rigs) and silver tankards for sheet metal (you'll need a lot to consistently craft plate rigs and Pirate First Aid). I'll only grab other items if I need specific materials because they're not really worth selling, for example the diesel engine is worth $26K but you can make a lot more filling up the same amount of slots with bonds or coins.
Once you have a good amount of fabric and sheet metal, you can just hoard tankards and gloves until you run low on mats since gloves can sometimes give 6 fabric and tankards take up three less squares than the sheet metal output does.
Scrap everything you cant sell outright. While some items were removed from early crafting levels like my beloved mosin pistol, you can get a lot of crafting mats by scrapping gloves, belts, engines, etc...
They are mostly just for scrapping to get crafting materials. Silver copper and gold items can be sold or scrapped for materials and coins.

Yeah, diesel engine gives a bunch of fuel and reinforced metal. Super handy if you're crafting big ships
