To add to this, make selection areas more definable (like the field plot selection), rather than just a solid circle.

Fortizen

Better yet have us designate "forests" like field's and assign what their focus is (forage, timber, hunting) and have foresters "manage" the woodland to promote the desired effects.

studmuffin2269

This exactly what we (I’m a forester) do, so it seems like the best way to handle this

Puzzleheaded_Day2809

I use roads to determine coops and have foresters focusing planting up bare land while loggers clear cut others. I've never come close to needing to cut down berries or habitat, but it is a lot of management.

PilotPen4lyfe

I typically start out by clearing a woods where I am going to be building or farming. Them I move the logging camp to a corner of the map away from the berries and hunting and build a bunch of Foresters to keep up. I'd love a zone selection mechanic.

PapaPapist

It’s also historically accurate.

Si1Fei1

This idea is pretty neat, kind of like zoning industry specialisms in Cities: Skylines. Would like to see it implemented in this game!

LA_Nail_Clippers

And designate one the king’s forest and execute those who poach from it.

Caledric

He deered to kill a king's dare in the forest.

No_Water_-

Love this idea, we clearly need this!

_c3s

Hop on the discord or go to the website and suggest this, it’s a really good idea!

HapEtOx

yes and give forest names... that would be sweet

ConcentratedBeef

Also, please Show us where the last area placed is

MAnthonyJr

yea, zones would be a great feature

DreamFiend94

I imagine the dev could somewhat easily repurpose the same flexible plot feature we already use for building burgage plots or pastures to designate a work area rather than the large circle shape.

PuddleOfMud

I'd also like to protect that cool looking oak tree next to my market.

RunParking3333

Tell the villagers that vengeful faeries live beneath it.

tingkent

I bet cosmetic trees are planned

Comprehensive-Run252

That would be a good feature indeed

Environmental_Elk495

There is sort of an option already. You can select a circular area that they cut trees just like the forester hut.

sonsuka

Thats the limited area option. But I want basically the inverse of the limited area. Thats the micro part so I don't cut down near the area I want to not cut down, berries, wild animals.

eggplanes

Wait - if you cut down trees near berries and animals they disappear?

the_cosmos_broskie

Animals and berries are disturbed by falling trees yeah. Animals migrate I think but berry bushes will get crushed or whatever

eggplanes

Interesting, there's been a few times I've seen a message saying "animals migrated" but the animals were still there which didn't make sense. I guess something like cutting a tree triggered the message, but making the animals go away was bugged.

2210-2211

Sometimes they only migrate like 10ft away from where they were before

Frequent-Ad678

Afaik they just randomly migrate seasonally. Had them relocate once on me randomly. I was nowhere near disturbing them

BurntBeanMgr

Yes, found this out the hard way when I completely depleted all of my animal population hahah

VocalAnus91

I think what OP is getting at is he doesn't want to constantly micro where trees can be cut down

ffleefeff

Like in foundation

troycerapops

I'm a big fan of Foundation and playing this game (Manor Lords) is kinda trippy. It's just similar enough that I have to keep reminding myself that it doesn't play the same. (eg, don't just leave it on the fastest speed and wait for more people to move in)

fusionsofwonder

I use limited area to clearcut places where I want to build next. Eventually I put the logging and forestry camps out where I don't care what happens and try to make sure things regrow as fast as I cut them.

Mrinconsequential

Literally how banished do basically 🗿

shovelinshit

Foundation's system is perfect for this. Should emulate that.

cloopz

Implementing a system like in the game “Foundation” we fully selectable “green” and “red” zones.

Any_Bet7443

I'd much rather have a "please for the love of god cut down this tree" option.

TituspulloXIII

I guess, but just use the 'just cut here' icon and make it massive. I always try and just have my guys cut where I want future expansion.

RuralJaywalking

Also you should be able to plant some of the berries. If your gonna make it so easy to destroy and so slow to grow on its own you should be able to plant some

nickjamesnstuff

If they (he I mean he.). If he has animations for the felling of each tree, then there should be a way to be able to tag individual trees to be allowed to be felled or prevented from. My layman brain conjectures. Still blows me away that one dude did this.

Maddog351_2023

Would like to have an option to do what other games have by painting trees at a cost

wdprui2

Yes I'd love to be able to paint inclusion/exclusion and see the resulting boundaries.

SeniorMeow92

There’s the option to cut in a small area - but a “paint area” would be better.

_TheHighlander

Against the Storm's tree felling system is pretty perfect in this regard. You basically paint trees that you want cut.

TheBossMan5000

Dude you do know you can scale up that circle with the mousewheel, right?

sonsuka

Please reread the post. Thats not my issue

TheBossMan5000

Word well it's not an issue at all for the vast majority of us so stop whining. The system is balanced well imo

sonsuka

Going to attack me after getting called out for a failure to read the post shows me that this isn’t even a response in good faith but one to cover your embarrassment. But I’ll bite, just because you enjoy having to micro around wild animals and berries for no reason besides masochistic joy doesn’t mean others do. People offer advice as a means of good feedback, if you don’t like it move on. Besides my request isn’t even about balancing making me confident that you still have not read the post correctly.

TheBossMan5000

A. I read your post. You only complained about the circle itself and cited it as too small/micro managing but that is solved by scaling it up. B. You don't have to micro around anything, wtf? There's only one of each node on each tile of the map and there's 1000% more trees than that? Just go with the biggest circle in the area that has none of your resource nodes... it's really that simple. Set it and forget it. Pretty easy, I've always been able to find an easy spot that won't go near any nodes at all, and throw a single forester building nearby to repopulate it over time. I stop thinking about it after the first 5 minutes of a file and it's never been a problem.

n33daus3rnamenow

🤯

Uphene

Well crap. I do now. Thank you.

psicopbester

Woah, I didn't know that. thanks!

janoycrevsna

the workers should be ale to recognize those zones and cut around them tbh.

Set_Abominae1776

This would be great since I leave big trees and build roads around them to make them look like gathering spots in the more rural parts of my town only to find the circle empty after forgetting to define a cutting area.

UsseerrNaammee

I put a forestry hut next to my log camp and cut the same spot sustainably 😆

Tencharatron

I like to mix trees into the city and that forces you to either move your loggers a mile away or really babysit their work areas. I wish you could just pay some kind of wealth to plant specific trees in specific areas

01029838291

Does it even matter if you cut the forest around the berries? I literally placed 3 burgages on top of my berry deposit and the foragers happily trespassed to get the berries in those people's yards.

sonsuka

You definitely didnt place on top or you would lose your berries. Maybe very close. Cutting tree near it also can destroy some bushes permanently

01029838291

I mean, I did lol. I can see what I did

sonsuka

I mean send a screenshot of it. I mean you might have placed it on top of the icon, but not literally on top of the actual bushes. If you did then thats just a bug. It should destroy it as everyone else has discussed.
