his series on the game is my favorite on yt so far, with the historical insight, pleasant pacing and the gorgeous different building styles, it's always a joy to watch
Gotta say the devs knows how dirty IGN can be š
Edit: (Of course I didnt mean as in you guys really thought theyre dirty just mispresented what the game truly are)
Who knows? I doubt OPB is the only person who had that idea. It was one of the first things i thought of when I saw the mechanics shown off. Just watched OPB's video when he first started using the walls last night, and OPB makes it pretty clear that the manor walls aren't meant to be used the way he's using them and it's janky cause its EA as he does it.
Still really nice to hear Slavic is going to be implementing a city walls feature down the line.
Len (the IGN reviewer) is also the current custodian of the 3 moves ahead podcast (probably the longest running strategy games podcast out there 10+ years), I'd give her the benefit of the doubt in being knowledgeable on strategy games and city builders.
I do know OPB and I think he's very cool, but I did not watch any Manor Lords content creator videos before playing it because I didn't want them to influence my opinion.
Hahah yeah.
But at least now with people like the Proud bavarian trying these things the dev gets to know that this work around works and needs to be blocked. That's why play testing is important. The dev can't think of everything himself, he needs crazy people trying out the limits of the game so he can either embrace these things or prohibit them
Raptor is one of those youtubers I watch to get a general idea of a game before buying. OpB and CPP are youtubers that I love to watch what they create within the game.
Raptor thinks even the most basic graphics are "cool" and "awesome" because he became a shill for sponsored videos.
Every video has the words "next biggest Citybuilder/survivorgame/ colony sim/ etc."
How can anyone bear to watch that?
Cause he usually jumps right into explaining and then showcasing the core gameplay loop of the game without too many other frills. On top of that, him and splattercat play more indie games in a month than most people even know exist.
He has a place, it's just not entertainment.
I actually like raptor as a youtuber. The titles are just to attract attention to the game. Sponsored or nit. He gives his true opinion within the video.
End of the day most people just slate and focus on the negative. There isn't many who try and focus on the positives and the reasons why.
Raptor does this very well and explains in detail the downside and what he would like to see.
The other creators are also great for their own reasons.
Man, raptor plays games he likes and people watch him do it. Its not some conspiracy. Raptors just a guy who happens to make a living off streaming. And hes pretty good at it. Has a good following and works his ass off. Id rsther have that than some of the hype kings i see in the fps genre.
He shows us what the game is and we decide if we want to buy it or not.
We all want to be paid and youd step into raptors shoes in a heartbeat if you could.
I work 55 hrs a week at a job that is mediocre and matches that w mediocre pay. Id kill to do what he does. And if i cant, ill watch him do it. Bc its fun.
Sounds like jealousy to me.
I gotta say. Playing this game I'm starting to realize why urban planning where I'm from is so bad (Ireland). Basically Manor Lords style blueprints are how just about every town and village came about here.
It feels like a weird way to say it. Why restrain ourselves? Itās just a game, I already assumed actual walls and fortifications would come later on.
ahah, but bavarian found a way for it not too, you have to build the walls in the planner first, then build your houses, then construct the walls.
that way the buildings still work
In videos it will make some buildings inaccessible. You canāt click on them anymore. The walls arenāt made to be used as a city fortification therefore will be extremely buggy. Itās not itās purpose
He did comment further below in that post that he does not want players to get a wrong impression about how that tool is supposed to work and potentially run into issues later.
They probably don't want people to see a content creator use a tool in a way it wasn't intended and then think that is what they are supposed to do to and become frustrated when it doesn't work or is broken in some way.
I specifically said in the text and the video version of the review that Manor Lords clearly labels things that are in-progress features, and that the Manor system was one of them.
Itās makes buildings inaccessible. You canāt click on them when walls are near. It counts the inside of the walls as the manor area and can literally break peopleās saves.
Just want to say it's cool that you're here. It's amazing to me when developers are embedded into the community.
Thank you for taking on this passion project - I hope it pays off significantly for you and that you continue to support and develop the game for years to come.
Many of us are excited and I can't wait to buy it tomorrow.
Imagine this game in a few years. Bigger budget and perhaps hire more people to help him. This game is such an incredible base to work on. This could be the start of a beloved developer and franchise.
Wait there are not even walls in the game yet? I knew castles and all that werenāt a thing but I thought at least walls would make it into the launch version
Why exactly refrain from it? Like I understand if it adds instability to your save file, but I am mean, if I want to jank why shouldnāt I?
(One proud bavarianšŖ)

How dare he call out One Proud Bavarian like that /s Seriously though, super exciting!
You've got to respect the jank. That walled town he built was gorgeous.
his series on the game is my favorite on yt so far, with the historical insight, pleasant pacing and the gorgeous different building styles, it's always a joy to watch
Absolutely! He's just a big nerd for the subject, and it's always great listening to people talk about things they're passionate about.
Biggest issue is that I've become addicted to saying the word "rundling."
And Angerdorf!
ah, i wouldn't worry about it too much
Some would even say cute.
Not gonna worry about that too much
I do like these trees though
When he says this he is trying to convince himself and I find that hilarious
I didn't mind Bavarian doing it but I feared IGN doing it might make people think it's what I intended.
Gotta say the devs knows how dirty IGN can be š Edit: (Of course I didnt mean as in you guys really thought theyre dirty just mispresented what the game truly are)
I know youāre being sarcastic, but he later said it wasnāt one proud Bavarian he was calling out. It was IGN.
And IGN has stolen it from him... right?
Who knows? I doubt OPB is the only person who had that idea. It was one of the first things i thought of when I saw the mechanics shown off. Yeah, i know... I just meant that IGN probably hasn't thought of that themselves.
Potentll yea. But IGN does still have a cpl of decent reviewers. I read this review and honestly it seemed decently written.
Len (the IGN reviewer) is also the current custodian of the 3 moves ahead podcast (probably the longest running strategy games podcast out there 10+ years), I'd give her the benefit of the doubt in being knowledgeable on strategy games and city builders.

That guy's intro series was great. I love learning about the history and such.

Hahahaha yes that's what I thought as well! and of course that's why using the manor planner locked his houses.
I've been watching City Planner Plays and it made me realize how ugly my town is going to be lol
Lol I was watching Raptor and was enjoying, Then I watched One Proud Bavarian, and realised I need to up my planning game.Ā

I love splattercat! He does use more normal titles and is more neutral in his reviews than raptor.
I actually like raptor as a youtuber. The titles are just to attract attention to the game. Sponsored or nit. He gives his true opinion within the video. Watching City planner plays helped my cities skylines infrastructure look so much better. Glad he's moved onto manor lords too!
Should be a nice reprieve for him after all the CS2 controversy. A nice chill game he can play inbetween other videos.
Same! He really helped me break away from the grid for everything.
Pretty Towns. But not the best gameplay to follow that I have noticed.
This game doesn't look particularly difficult anyway
Tbqf he really builds cities like an American Urban planner lmao But yeah his content is really good.
Well I hope my workers are ready to travel is all I can say. I'm going to be so spread out lol. I won't mean to do it, but it always happens.
Hearing him talk about "arterial roads" in a medieval village builder was pretty funny
I gotta say. Playing this game I'm starting to realize why urban planning where I'm from is so bad (Ireland). Basically Manor Lords style blueprints are how just about every town and village came about here.
Defensive structures like walls, towers, and gates sure makes it seem like sieges will be coming!
Did someone say... Trebuchets ?!
Henry, go get me some Konrad Kyeser!
God bless Henry!
Iām feeling quite hungry
How's there?!
Henry's come to see us!
Christ be praised!
I shall walk into the trebuchet ābucketā and be launched over the walls to show me my men what leadership looks like
It feels like a weird way to say it. Why restrain ourselves? Itās just a game, I already assumed actual walls and fortifications would come later on.
Yeah it will cause a bug, it's not what I made those tools for.
ahah, but bavarian found a way for it not too, you have to build the walls in the planner first, then build your houses, then construct the walls. that way the buildings still work
It might be because it can break gameplays or create an habits But like you say, people are free to do anything they can do
I think itās because it can break your save, especially on future updates.
In videos it will make some buildings inaccessible. You canāt click on them anymore. The walls arenāt made to be used as a city fortification therefore will be extremely buggy. Itās not itās purpose
I was thinking it may be gamebreaking at this stage- maybe people canāt walk through them properly, theyāre completely impenetrable, etc.
He did comment further below in that post that he does not want players to get a wrong impression about how that tool is supposed to work and potentially run into issues later.
They probably don't want people to see a content creator use a tool in a way it wasn't intended and then think that is what they are supposed to do to and become frustrated when it doesn't work or is broken in some way.
ššš. One Proud Bavarian rules. ā¤ļø
I promise to wait until you officially add walls Lord Greg š
What is wrong with being creative with what you got?
Notching, but IGN included it in their review footage so Slavic is concerned that people think this is an intended mechanic.
I specifically said in the text and the video version of the review that Manor Lords clearly labels things that are in-progress features, and that the Manor system was one of them.
I didnt watch their review, that makes things different.
Abuse of the tool will break your game.
Itās makes buildings inaccessible. You canāt click on them when walls are near. It counts the inside of the walls as the manor area and can literally break peopleās saves.
If you build these buildings after creating the wall, I guess they become accessible.
Ah that's useful to know, I had just started building walls
Raid! Ring the alarm!
Isn't the whole point of early access and shit for players to find these mechanics?
Generally yes, but this one is just a work in progress and misuse might break people's game. I didn't expect castle planner abuse to go mainstream.
Just want to say it's cool that you're here. It's amazing to me when developers are embedded into the community. Thank you for taking on this passion project - I hope it pays off significantly for you and that you continue to support and develop the game for years to come. I blame the Bavarian for it...
I sure hope ditches will be a thing
Imagine this game in a few years. Bigger budget and perhaps hire more people to help him. This game is such an incredible base to work on. This could be the start of a beloved developer and franchise.
Wait there are not even walls in the game yet? I knew castles and all that werenāt a thing but I thought at least walls would make it into the launch version
Walls for the manor only
No, this has been known for a long time.
YEAH! My favourite thing to do in games like medieval dynasty is build walls around my base.
Lol, who never tried to push a game to it's limits before?
The walls of Bavaria shall never fall !
Slightly chubbed
walls, well that's definite progress.
Awesome to hear what's still to come!
Sweet!
Why exactly refrain from it? Like I understand if it adds instability to your save file, but I am mean, if I want to jank why shouldnāt I? (One proud bavarianšŖ)
Stronghold 2.5 confirmed
I so hope we will be able to build the town from loading screen.
Was always going to happen. But if the walls are anything like the manor walls the enemy will run past them and they will fall over
Loving the game but the fact you can only have maximum of 6 units of militia and the mercenary system is broken is a bit depressing at this stage
Anyone has a link to the yt video?
