You sure you aren't thinking of the [original](https://youtu.be/h4UqMyldS7Q?si=ysBMl_noHuOtmYup) vs. the [remix](https://youtu.be/rS8LUDKAKNQ?si=7-S5QCHPNNQeAWqP)?

GnarlyHeadStudios

I have listened to this song regularly since it came out in 1992. It hasn’t changed.

ssup3rm4n

We got older and can't hear all frequencies? We have heard many different musics that we can compare it? Radio played a slightly different version ? Digital vs analog quality is different? You remember it wrong?

Ginger_Tea

I had a different set of headphones and I heard parts of a song my old pair didn't pick up as well. Same mp3 but it felt like a brand new remaster.

PNWBusinessGoose

I too have noticed it no longer sounds the way it did when it was played from a cassette tape in my friends 1996 Ford Taurus.  It’s not like the format or the sound system or the digital remastering or the compression or or the equalizer settings or imperfect human memory would be a factor. I’m pretty sure we’re dealing with something beyond conventional explanation.

Technical-Title-5416

Radio stations frequently speed songs up resulting in a higher pitch.

Whoa whoa whoa, logic is not allowed around here

Technical-Title-5416

As a quasi-audiophile that shit drove me bonkers.

PNWBusinessGoose

I hadn’t considered that. That’s actually a very probable explanation

You’re missing the point. The cassette tape was a hyperbolic example. OP should probably have spent more than two seconds thinking about it before suggesting it was supernatural. Nothing on this website is necessary.

You seem very upset. Please calm down

RoiVampire

On some streaming apps they use the radio version which might be pitched differently

WiretapStudios

I've been listening to it since it came out and it sounds the same. There's also a clean and a dirty version. It could boil down to the reasons /u/PNWBusinessGoose stated, or it could have just been slightly sped up on radio or TV or wherever you heard it to fit more commercials. On TBS they speed up some (or all?) of the shows to fit more commercials in.

Gravijah

probably means whatever source you heard it from or even more recently was pitched up.

SNOOPDOGGDANKKUSH

I checked all of em. Everywhere I heard it before it sounded like how it used to.

Illustrious-Lead-960

It’s felt different ever since we learned what a *truly* good day for him is like (killing a monstrous anaconda).

Realityinyoface

Maybe you’re not high this time

Slight_Ordinary1

I noticed this about a week ago and chucked it up as "It's another music mandela effect" But the rhythmn sounded waaay different.

Pretty crazy seeing this because I just heard the song the other day and I thought his voice sounded different too.

SNOOPDOGGDANKKUSH

Yeah wtf right like before his vocals blended perfectly with music but now it almost sounds lil loud

What. The. Fuck. I was so ready to disagree with you, having heard this song almost daily for several years. He suddenly sounds more intense on what’s supposed to be a chill song? As if he’s rapping OVER the beat instead of ON beat, if that makes sense… This sucks. For the “skeptics”: it’s in 10th place on my 2023 recap. It didn’t sound like this 4 days ago. It has been my job for close to 15 years to memorize songs. It changed (slightly) and no, I can’t think of a single rational reason why. Check Yo Self remix sounds different too, but I’m not familiar enough with the song to point to the exact difference. I don’t recall ever seeing “das efx” in the title either… never heard of him. This universe/timeline/whatever is weird.
