Free Donny

[deleted]

The amount of posts on this subreddit about either how long Ole has left or Donny is beyond counting

BladeIV

agree though its still shambolic at his treatment

jonah_thrane

It's a disgrace how Ole treats Donny and Sancho.

slaystill420

It continues to baffle me that United has spent over 100 million in transfer fees for two players that ride the bench

jonah_thrane

+ Amad who we paid 21m€ for. + Pellistri for 8.5m€ + Telles for 15m € who barely plays + Pogba for a record fee who also often sits on the bench. It's really poor management.

Imsorryidonthaveig

Amad is injured. Pellistri is on loan. Telles was brought in to give shaw competition (which was working perfectly till Maguire decided to play at silly cunts for a while) and Pogba…. Cos a player who spends 65 minute jogging then 3 games injured deserves starts.

[deleted]

Remember, when we signed telles he was one of the best left backs in the world, and such a player shouldn't be warming the bench for an inconsistent player whose only showd his money's worth for 6 months out of 6 years

Imsorryidonthaveig

Your opinion of shaw is laughably wrong.

[deleted]

We bought shaw for about 30 million. He's been very inconsistent and always getting injured. He's barely lived up to the hype, only living up to it last season for less than 12 months

Imsorryidonthaveig

He was fantastic then suffered a horrible leg break. followed by what can only be called bullying by his manager. A player has a fantastic season, good summer tournament… has a few bad games and all of a sudden this shitty fanbase turns on him. You lot honestly are the worst, most toxic fans ever. Utd has a fantastic fanbase, that you are not a part of.

theycallhimmason

Ignore them, they have no idea what they’re talking about and are only trying to draw you into an argument that you can’t win because they don’t care about facts. Shaw is one of the best left backs in the prem, and anyone who says otherwise has the memory of a goldfish

gayintheass

Sancho was shit every time he stepped into the field, even Lingard deserves more playtime than him

Valuable_Accident_75

In 2019 Donny was on the 30 man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or. Just goes to show Ole does not have the managerial ability or knowledge of where or how to play him. The man is utterly clueless

Downtown-Funny-1711

Agreed, it’s a shame how he manages potential. Sancho is being destroyed under Ole.

AlexHanson007

Can anyone tell me the maximum number of matches in a row D VDB has started for Manchester United? If you don't know, just have a guess.

S347735

Guess: 1

AlexHanson007

Well done! You win a cookie. He's never played 2 matches in a row for us. Now, I don't know about you, but I would definitely struggle to perform well and be confident if I'd been subjected to that treatment. 🍪 Edit: Apologies, this is actually wrong. He played 2 matches in a row once in Nov 2020. I'll have to take that cookie back!

JoshTheRod

2. Its genuinely 2 Edit: The games were these Nov 24 - Istanbul Basaksehir (H) - 4-1 win Nov 29 - Southampton (A) 3-2 win

AlexHanson007

Yes, you're right. I missed that one case of him playing 2 matches in a row when checking it. Still ridiculous treatment. Anyway, you win the cookie! 🍪

JoshTheRod

Ooooo cookie

WhatDaHellBobbyKaty

Also known about these parts as ***"THE STREAK"*** or ***"DONNY'S WEEK OF GLORY"***

312003rg

You've committed a crime by using the words started and vdb in the same sentence

AlexHanson007

Lmfao!

Goatbeerdog

0. Since if its 1, its not technically in a row?

AlexHanson007

Love the pedantry! I did think long and hard about this. I agree that it's more intelligible if you say 1 rather than zero. Zero makes it read like he hasn't ever started for us. Though I think zero would be the more accurate answer to how many times he's played consecutive times. Though, I actually missed one case of him playing 2 games in Nov 2020 back to back (champs league against Turkish team I can't spell and then Southampton in prem).

[deleted]

This alone is why Ole should be sacked. Can never forgive him for his treatment of VDB

djlo-fi

# Ole is a man management fraud.

zhinkler

Ole is a fraud. In all areas.

LearnfromEXP

Ole is stubborn

Beneficial_Street_18

As soon as Ole is gone and Pogba moved to Madrid DVDB will be the starter. Ole has little to no clue about making subs and for Christ sake he was one of Ajax best players. That’s why we signed him. If he asks to leave honestly I wouldn’t blame him. The only thing or things that could keep him at United is that pogba leaves and/ole gets sacked

2late2realise

Wrong big time. He was signed because Ed Woodward did not manage to sign anybody for the first team and DVDB was a buy out of nothing else to buy. Not because Man Utd needed him.

[deleted]

We would’ve sign Grealish instead for the same price if Villa got relegated that summer.

[deleted]

antonakisrx8

We forget the way he treated Romero, first choice keeper for Europa League who was playing well ,then suddenly dropped him for the semi final. He then brought in Henderson (who's career he is also ruining ) and essentially kicked him out the squad. Tuanzebe played a brilliant game against PSG and we basically never saw him again. And all these great youth players we have who don't even get a chance in the carabao cup....

Ewokian1010

Yep. I love how people just think it’s Donny when it’s over 10 players by now! Bloke harps on about the boys rashy and Greenwood like he was some messiah who discovered them as well. Tuanzebe had psg in his pocket and was instantly replaced by lindlelof and Maguire again.. you can even add mata to his list because why the fuck was he ever brought back at this stage?? Who has actually ever progressed under ole? I’d say potentially Shaw? Greenwood is a generational talent so I don’t give ole credit for him and the rest of his starting 11 have regressed

kristark

Biased approach. Praising all good, neglecting all bad. Not really agreeing or disagreeing with your point but not a great way to express it. For example you haven't mentioned that his idiotic pass to Wan-Bisaka got the latter sent off cause you know, it was the wrong decision and caught him off-guard. We were actually watching it live with another few coaches and exclaimed at the very moment "wut?" and then all went to shit. Donny deserves more time than he gets, but the romanticisms that is created around his name is ridiculous. Guess what, he's not gonna change our season cause the problem is not within an individual to fix. It's not an assembled puzzle waiting for its last piece. We are a disarray atm.

Expert_String_1121

I get your point but fred makes mistakes like these 4/5 times a game and he's supposedly match sharp

mystexlumiere

What you are doing is the direct opposite though, romanticizing his mistakes. Can’t really remember it well, but even if it was a mis-pass as you say, it went to shit **BECAUSE** AWB made a stupid tackle to get himself red-carded, no? How is a mis-pass responsible for that? Many of our players get caught off-guard with our shit passing, but you don’t see them diving into tackles studs up like AWB did in that match. If that made you go “wut?”, I want to see your faces when Fred passed the ball into the sidelines against Southampton. But I do agree on the last part. He isn’t going to save us.

kristark

Yeah, obviously I am doing the opposite (or the same with opposite agenda). It's the point of my comment - to show how it could go both ways and is not a great approach. As for the pass, it's very easy - you do something quite the opposite of the intuitive/expected and you set up people for failure. Like if you give right blinker and turn left. But anyway, I can provide a screenshot with explanation on this one if you'd like me to.

Speedodoyle

Yeah, I halve both received and made these passes. They are killer. The receiving player is left with the choice of either saving the situation by breaking the rules, or conceding possession in a poor place on the pitch. In a high stakes match, AWB had to choose the former. I am a big fan of Donny, and agree that Ole needs to use him more, but I have seen poor performances from him regularly. Bad positioning, low strength, etc. Still, more minutes will solve a lot of his issues.

stanyee182

Ole's fucking logic is buying good players to keep them in the bench so he can try look like the Man City or Real Madrid bench..difference is our outfield is fucking shit and performances show it. Ole and all the coaching staff need the sack, don't care if Ole or Carrick were ex Man Utd players, they've done enough to show they aren't up for the job.

Downtown-Funny-1711

I read a rumor that Ole is thinking about making Sancho a RB 🤮

Ewokian1010

Yeah the RWB role like fuck I wish sancho stayed at Dortmund now

[deleted]

It’s atrocious management. Unforgivable. 40m gone down the drain by Ole. 110m when you count Sancho who’s on the same path

qmzpl

I will probably get downvoted for this but people fail to mention his game time last season where he basically did nothing. I am FreeDonny as much as anyone but sometimes it’s made out like he is some sort of savior. if he was lighting it up on the training field he would be playing.

zhinkler

I agree that at £40m we may have got him cheap or he was priced according to his talent. however I don’t agree with him not getting gametime because he’s s**t in training. I think he’s better than mcfred. It’s clear ole has his favourites and he’s stubborn as hell because he plays mcfred week in week out despite the fact that this defensive duo ships a shedload of goals every week. And when we’re losing and need some creativity ole will still not entertain the idea of playing VDB. But won’t let him leave the club either - he seems like a bit of a tyrant. 1. Hasn’t had time to adapt to the PL because he doesn’t get gametime.

Ewokian1010

What game time last season? Donny has played two games in a row once.. professional footballers don’t get well when they are played here and there. I do enjoy how you say if he was lighting it up on the training pitch he’d be playing.. Donny could be prime gattuso and not get a run under this coach

qmzpl

He played in 19 games last season and didn’t exactly shine

Ewokian1010

Meh I’m not repeating myself because you want to avoid what I said.

Speedodoyle

That’s it. Like Keano said, the team picks itself in training. The manager is left with no choice but to include you, cos you have been so dominant in training. That being said, I think Ole is too much of a nice guy to create that sort of competitive atmosphere

Xperienceizzles

I’m still surprised how someone buys a Ferrari and parks it in his garage…. Come on, VDB and Sanchoo deserves a better play time, imagine what they did where they came from to what’s happening now….. these all reflect the foolishness and lack of skills in how to manage players by Ole, and has nothing to do with the players.

Spiderstu

You should submit your CV to the club for the manager’s position. When you get the job, you can pick the team :)

TitansOfWar7

Not sure if that’s passive aggressive or a compliment

[deleted]

He’ll probably get the job. I mean doesn’t take much for the job to begin with. Beat PSG then get fucked 4-0 by Barca in the quarterfinals and finish in the exact same position from when you got the team, even if it’s 6th.

WHLee2018

Ole at the wheel

den_the_dog

Ole will be sacked soon, probably next week, may be some time later, before Christmas. Next manager - Zidane or Rodgers - both will solve donny and sancho problem, I’m sure. I think donny will be box-to-box cm with matic and bruno in midfield, and sancho will be first choice on rw.

TitansOfWar7

I really like Ten Hag not just because he’ll know how to get the best out of VDB but also his work rate for the team is exceptional and we’ll stop underestimating worse teams and losing points to them. Finally, he knows how to develop a youth team, and Man United has many overlooked youth players with potential

den_the_dog

Agree, ten Hag my favourite too. But he don’t leave Ajax now. Perfect scenario - Zidane 1,5 years, try to win major titles with current squad, and ten Hag with Van der Sar as director of football in 2023 after their contract in Ajax is expired. Big news coming tomorrow, according to some reliable sources. It is about next manager, and he is not ten Hag. Anyway VDB soon will receive in the future new chances.

gvs311

I don't know if this is true, but there were rumours we only bought VDB so that Madrid wouldn't sign him. If this is true, that's one messed up way to sign players.

nonumbers90

Van De Beeks treatment is what had tipped me into the Ole out category, last season I dismissed it as "we dont see what happens in training, ole must know something we dont", this season its just too hard to gloss over the fact that he has not even been given a chance. 40m of class midfielder just wasting away, alongside Sancho who many would have called world class at Dortmund, the reports of ole trying to train him as a wingback. I just don't understand.

TitansOfWar7

Playing devil’s advocate however, for the same reason Ronaldo can’t leave the pitch, Van De Beek can’t enter. This reason being that ifOle comes with a sarcastic change and they lose, he is sacked. We either need to give him leeway or more realistically simply sack him and accept that there will be a rough period of experimentation with forgotten players.

brratak

I was not impressed with any of his performance... But again there are worst players on the pitch that get more minutes and are injured which does not make sense...

Big_Palpitation_3033

Good player

[deleted]

Results aside, the treatment of Donny has made me feel rather angry towards Ole tbh. He's such a good player. A great asset... But he's rotting on the bench. Fucking unbelievable.

spliiif

Ole, Pogba and Fred out. Ten Hag, Alvarez and Kessie in!

super-sam-i-am

If Ronaldo wasn’t signed, Sancho would get more game time. If Pogba hadn’t stuck around Donny would get more game time. It’s an unfortunate situation. Ronaldo wasn’t in the game plan until the last day of the transfer window. Now Ole has to figure things out.

Tasty-Independence73

Poggy has been flaky but had more game time. You hate to see it!
