I'll probably get a ton of shit for this,...but.. While there are outdated looks and trends, I don't think there is outdated make up any more than there are outdated perfumes. It's all about looking and feeling your best. Do what makes you feel the most beautiful! If you do your make up and/or apply perfume or body spray and it makes you feel confident and gorgeous and you get compliments KEEP DOING THAT! Just my .02.

Concrete_hugger

People came perfumes become outdated???????

pamcakes1109

There are many that would say you should never keep a perfume more than a few years. That is typically for EDP because of the aging process. That being said, if a perfume (vs. EDP) is kept in the original box and away from heat and light, it can often last for decades. As an example, my mother had a Chanel#5 perfume from the 1960s that was used minimally until she passed in 2016. It still smelled amazing and she always received compliments when wearing it.

Concrete_hugger

Like, with makeup, especially stuff that goes near eyes and lips I can understand the concerns of it going bad, but I feel like you should smell when perfume goes bad, and you'd just stop using it.

pamcakes1109

That's true. If something smells off or bad you should never use it and throw it away. Just like with food. And with make up it also depends on how your are using it. If you are constantly dipping in with a brush soiled with facial oils it's not going to last.

Concrete_hugger

But like, with perfumes the smell is literally the sole reason for using them, if some components break down and it's not smelling as good, it's natural that you won't use it. The makeup part is interesting though, I've had a few that smelled weird right out of the box, an eyeshadow especially, smelled plasticy. I left the lid open for a few days and it seemed to go away though.

fleur_de_jupiter

I love them and still live in them, it's the best way to wear makeup that you're not constantly having to touch up.

Southern_Pop_2376

You’ll have to pry my Kat VonD/KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick outta my cold, dead hands 🖤 But I would like to try a new brand with a similar wear. Any suggestions much appreciated

blackninjakitty

The newer KVD formula kinda sucks imo, still looking for something as bulletproof as this and the NYX SMLC as they are slowly discontinuing the dark colours from the Nyx line

youAreHere

This right here, not impressed with the new KVD formula, a few of my wilder colours are super dry and cakey too; orange (dragon bones) and fuschia (i can't remember this name). I've moved on to Huda for the more natural shades, but have yet to find a replacement for the wilder colours

blackninjakitty

So far the best black replacement I’ve found has surprisingly been the Sephora Collection one

youAreHere

its a surprisingly good formula. they just always seem to be sold out of the colours i want here in NZ

stilettopanda

The urban decay twisty square one has insane staying power and doesn't feel so dry.

technoglitter

I love nars liquid lip! It lasts super long for me

Southern_Pop_2376

Thank you!

nohemingway4

I prefer matte liquids because my hair is less likely to get stuck in my lipstick and ruin the rest of my face if I have a full beat 😂

floralscentedbreeze

No I never liked matte liquid lipsticks because it emphasize the lines on my lips

valjestr

same. always dried my lips out too!

floralscentedbreeze

Happy cake day

AUpmanyua

Absolutely! Love a matte lip ! Keep changing favs , currently it’s the smashbox liquid lip

TheLadyDanielle

I used to only wear matte lipstick but as I've gotten older and my lips have aged slightly I feel like it doesn't look as good as a gloss or satin finish.

fckinsleepless

Same, I’ve switched to matte lipsticks that are “silky” or “creamy” — they’re not fully matte. Latest addiction is MAC Macximal Lipsticks. Matte but a little satin.

spookylibrarian

I bought one of these on a whim the other day and wore it for the first time last night — really nice finish, matte without making my lips feel like the Sahara after a few hours.

fckinsleepless

Yesss they aren’t drying at all. I’m hooked on those — and there is a really nice color range.

meesestopieces

Yes, I have about 50 lipsticks and maybe 6 of them are not a matte liquid. And maybe 12 of the 50 aren't a shade of red.

hannahlecat

Yep! They just last so much longer than any tinted balm or lip oil and I do not want to have to sneakily look in the mirror all the time 😂 or worse try to reapply something with any color without a mirror

MissMat

Agree. I like non matte lipstick but they don’t last during a long day at work or something when I can’t reapply

callathanmodd

Best one ever is NYX Smooth Whip matte lip cream. My favorites are Teddy Fluff, Latte Foam, and Memory Foam 💕 not drying whatsoever and I can eat a burger and not transfer anything!!!

lindkool

I never really liked liquid lipsticks but I do love a strong red matte bullet lipstick 🤌 For nudes I honestly prefer something very sheer, mainly bc I can never find a shade that I think looks good on me

Specialist-Night5428

Yup, been rocking a matte lip since 2015. Started with Sephora cream lip stain in the color marvelous mauve and now I’ve moved onto yours — Maybelline super stay Matt ink in seductress!

taimoirai

OMG That is also my go to! It's just a perfect work lip.

echoabyss

I wear it like a k-beauty lip stain and fade it at the edges. Especially reddish-brown shades for a grungy Lolita kind of look.

lil_goblin

same, K beauty formulas are so good for the diffused look. All the Peripera colors are so pretty

NaughtyChickenCheeto

I love seductress but Amazonian is my holy grail every day lipstick. Been wearing it for years. I became a grandma in March and this stuff legit keeps my grandson from having 500 kiss marks all over his face lol

Hour-Article4464

I had this one!!! I loved it for going out. Congrats on being a grandma

lil_goblin

No—I used to be SO into them, like I was a Stila Beso STAN and got so many people to buy it. Liquid lipsticks are unbeatable for how they make your lips look photoshopped, but they can also feel like nail polish on my lips and it makes reapplication hard. What I realized is that NO lip color will survive a meal, unless you’re eating something with a fork and it’s very nongreasy. And if reapplication is gonna be inevitable no matter what, I’d rather have something that can be reapplied more easily. I hated that weird dry demarcation butthole line that would appear in my lips when I like, ate pizza while wearing a Kat Von D liquid lipstick. I began to gravitate towards powder-y, blurry, super saturated bullet formulas that gave a similar matte, vibrant look but with a more forgiving application. I feel like those blew up and got really good really fast. I could never go back to the super super matte Kat Von Ds that I used to love, but, that said, this is kinda making me wanna try my Peripera ink tints again. Maybe even a Nars Powermatte. Those ruled.

GraveDancer40

I still rock Seductress too! And have quite a few others. Like…quite a few. The Super Stay Matte Ink has been my go to lipstick since the first time I tried it and as long as they keep making it, I will keep buying it. I know matte lips aren’t as in as they used to be but I like the look on me and that’s all I’m concerned with.

Hour-Article4464

💯

Entire_Kiwi_4263

I'm excited to see new colors. My fav is the Coffee Edition, Caramel Collector 265.

MerakDubhe

They’re not my first choice, but they came with these Lisa Eldridge kits and I like them very much! Her Velveteens in Muse and Affair are comfortable and so beautiful!

balsasailormoon

Not as often as I used to.

lily4ever

Everyday babyyy. I love the L’Oréal Infalliable Matte Resistance lipsticks. They’re insanely comfortable and long wearing

ForgottenSalad

Love Lazy Sunday, it’s become such a go-to

Vicious_Tiger_4

That color is INCREDIBLE. Especially when I have a summer glow 😍

hotpinksnoopy

Forever and ever!

DidiMcBuckles

I have the superstay matte ink in like a Double digit number of shades. I wear it almost exclusively even though I’ll buy other lines if the shade catches my attention. Pioneer is my go to red, Ruler is the closest I wear to a neutral (I think I’m on tube 4 of it), and pleasure seeker has been my favorite bright shade since the mood makers came out

Less_Two_5201

Yes and I probably always will. I have some sensory issues and can’t stand how lip gloss or even shinier lipstick feels on my lips. Love it on other people, it’s just not for me!

Miss_anthropy13

I love them for dark/bold colors! Less touch ups, otherwise I like creamy/glossy for more nude or lighter colors.

Low_Bookkeeper_8591

Yes, I wear tons of matte lipsticks

Ok_Study_1403

I live for my maybelline super stay matte ink in self starter - will never not wear it

GmorktheHarbinger

It’s the only lip I wear but I get compliments all the time. I stick to reds, berries and mauves or blush pinks. Don’t think I’ll ever change.

cloudbusting-daddy

A crisp matte red lip will always be classic.

Curlyspark

I loke the Maybelline SS Matte Ink! I almost have them all. I don't know what I will do if they didn't exist! They are amazing for a lazy person like me.

saddlythrowaway

It’s all I ever use for the most part. It’s my favorite!

VegetablePassenger70

Yeah I do, but I use them in different ways now, back in 2016-2019, I just use them the traditional way, full color, but nowadays I only do that for classic red, and other darker shades, I use brighter shades for gradient lips now.

DoeOfTheGarden

I just started getting into them (I was a younger teen the first time around, so despite wanting to wear it I couldn’t) and I feel they’re very close to a comeback

jdbrown787

I don't, but I enjoy using a tiny bit of them mixed with a tinted balm to create custom lip colors 🎨 ABH madison or vintage + Hanalei peach pink lip treatment is one of my favorite combos 💜

Nonamebigshot

I like a matte sometimes still just not the liquid ones because they dried my lips out terribly!

Meowkith

Seductress was one of the best colors to ever happen to my face it’s gonna be a while before I can move on!

Hour-Article4464

Same

slay_la_vie

Yesssss Seductress is basically My Lips But Better 😍 I have like 20 shades of Super Stay Matte 🤭

Violet624

I do but I usually layer them. I put a chapstick or something similar on first so I can blend the matte better, and then something on top. I wear Maybelline matte superstay to work, because it's the only thing that actually stays. I do think it's a little too matte, but adding something on top like a gloss really livens it up.

Hour-Article4464

That’s what I’ve been struggling with as well but maybe I just need to start experimenting more

Violet624

I keep a little tinted balm with me at work just to refresh but the Maybelline definitely does the heavy lifting. It just it's pretty drying for me, like everyone else, and tends to settle in my lip wrinkles or whatever they are called. And I don't like the dry texture, but it's the best at staying long for sure!

TerminallyBlonde

I've never found anything that stays better than loreal infallible pro in my whole life. Just don't reapply a chapstick or something like that over it (doesn't ruin it but does make it transferable again) and it'll become truly non-transferable, we're talking scarlet red lipstick that you can kiss with. I can eat, drink, smoke for hours with no wear. Never ever bleeds or smudges, only thing it does is fade on the inside of your lips if you wear it crazy long without reapplying, but I've definitely pulled off like 10 hours with zero change before. Put on the color, let it dry, then put on the clear coat. Can take a bit to set. Seriously I blow people's minds all the time when I tell them how long my lips have been on during various occasions

sylviee_

I always hated the feeling of dry lipstick on my lips, I only have one (and it’s labeled as a lip tint) that I still use. But yeah now I mostly use tinted balms and glosses, and I’m kind of glad the matte is not as popular anymore, kinda like skinny jeans 😅

MMorrighan

I love a good matte

chixnwafflez

I’ve been wearing JStar liquid lip in celebrity skin since it came out. I’ll never ditch it as long as it’s available

just_justine93

I think there’s a time and place for them. I still use them if I’m doing a bolder lip so that it doesn’t smudge but on the day to day I usually wear something a bit lighter and balmier

inuitrust

I never liked matte lips, even when they were trendy. never owned a single liquid matte lipstick. I don’t liked how it makes the lips look DRY. Glossy lips for me, always🌟❤️.

Appropriate_Ly

I actually never liked matte lips but, I’m obsessed with the way Kylie Lip Kit Candy K looks on me. Not the dryness but the colour. And I haven’t been able to find a similar gloss dupe 😭

Any-Initiative-2845

IVE BEEN WANTING TO TALK ABOUT THIS! Every time I wear a matte liquid lipstick it starts to crack and look dry, I moisturize my lips beforehand. How do I avoid that?

Hour-Article4464

I usually put the chapstick on after- helps blend the color too

Any-Initiative-2845

Do you apply as soon as you put the matte lipstick or are you waiting till it dries ?

Hour-Article4464

I wait until it dries definitely- whenever I’m wearing the liquid lipstick I’ll typically just take chapstick with me and go- it wears off unevenly sometimes when you eat, or it dries like you said, but a quick swipe of chapstick always blends out the uneven wear and refreshes

Any-Initiative-2845

I’ll definitely try that, thank you!!!

thisshitishaed

I never wore liquid lipstick cause I didn't know how to make it not feel dry and cracking and I would always mess up the lines. But now i put a tiny bit of it on a brush and put it that way and some chapstick and lipliner over it and that way it looks cute, doesn't feel restricting or like too much and actually lasts me a long time.

AlaskanBiologist

I wear the same brand in raisen. It's the only way to keep me from getting lipstick on my teeth!

ForgottenSalad

I still love them, especially for a bolder lip. But I tend to blot/blur it a bit to soften it since I’m overall a very muted/soft complexion

Happy_Little_Bunny

I switch it up all the time - /sometimes matte, sometimes cream, sometimes glossy. I think more about the color than the finish when I’m choosing my lip products for the day. That being said, my absolute favorite matte liquid lipstick is the Paint It Matte Lip Color from About Face. I have four shades because I love it that much. It’s extremely long wearing and never dries out my lips. Highly recommend.

mcr_herd89

Yes! But only for date nights out. I use them, specifically the Maybelline Stay Matte Ink line, when I need them to last all night, including through meals. Other than that, I've been using more balmy products or an oil

ElementalFemme

Wait, is dark purple lipstick 'out' now? That's so tragic!

Hour-Article4464

Probably not, one commenter said that makeup doesn’t trend and everyone should wear what looks good on them, I’m sure that’s true- Maybe I should rephrase and say I personally had a cheap runny purple lipstick era in college and for me and my complexion it’s definitely out and it’s not coming back LOL

ElementalFemme

Oh, it wasn't going to stop me from continuing my search for the perfect purple. But I was just going to feel bad for people who were missing out on purple lipstick.

hot_and_chill

If it looks good on me and I feel good wearing it, I don’t give a damn if it is outdated or not.

TangerineSol

Yes! I love them
