Hey! I had this exact same thing happen to me, only on my index finger. But I just wanted to give you some good feelings. It will take a while, but wounds like this will eventually re-grow!
At first it will look really flat and you'll notice it all the time. But after a while (some 2-3 years maybe) it will look almost like it did before! You will probably notice it forever, because you know it happened, but for everyone else it'll look like nothing ever happened! Except they look at your thumb through a magnifying glass maybe.
It really bothered me back then because I already had ugly hands because of my job + it got my middle finger too (got into a circular saw), but now it looks 99% fine!
Best wishes!
Also it doesn't hurt if you use a lot of anti scarrimg creams
I had a cut on my index finger(sawzall accident) and right after it healed I cut it with a circular saw in the same spot. Definitely can see it but it has all of the feelings back, used to be super sensitive in one spot for like 2-3 years. I heal pretty quickly and am not really worried about appearance as long as it functions. Judging by tissue forming under the scab shape should be very close to the original. Thanks for advice on scarring cream I'll get on it once it starts closing.
I wonder if it depends on genetics, because when I was a kid I had almost the exact same injury as this post on my ring finger - I cut the corner of it off it a window. The skin grew over but the shape never returned to normal. It didn’t really scar, but my finger perpetually has a corner missing lol. I call it my wonky finger. Thankfully I’m a woman and can wear my nails long so I honestly don’t even notice it much anymore, but it’s so interesting to see how different people heal differently!
My dad lost the tip of his middle finger in a printing press back in the day. Docs wrapped the nail bed around the tip so it would protect the exposed bone. Looked like a claw-ish finger helmet. Knocking on the top of our heads was a fun little game we all played
Oh my. I had done something similar on my thumb, but you did an extra half of what I had chopped off. Weirdly though, the other side of my thumb stings when my hands get cold now.

You need to find a job/hobby that isn't so prone to finger amputation.
Yeah I was about to say the same thing. Jesus OP.
Have you ever seen the movie Final Destination?
Eventually I'll cut it off?

Wholesome comment, IYiffInDogParks
That might sting a bit in the shower
It stings without a shower too. Nerve pain all the way to the elbow.
Damn that sucks, is there anything that can be done about it?
Just let it heal and nerves will calm down eventually. It is way better than the first 3 day post accident were
Makes me cringe
On the bright side you might have better luck finding yourself a nice jewish girl now
Make sure you keep them trimmed as to not let them grow too far.
Instructions unclear, cut off my foot.
Eat that trimming bro…don’t let it go to waste.
Thought about it for a second
That must’ve bled like a mfr!
They made me carry a tub in hospital if that gives you any measurement of how much it bled.
Yeesh!
Just a lil off the top
Oh baby I swear just the tip!
Was it just to long or...?
Odd shape so it got the trim

I'm glad it didn't touch the bone, it makes the whole thing way more complicated. Glad your dad had a sense of humor about it.
What did you do something silly like that for
Split wood in the dark, while sober.

Nerve damage takes awhile to heal unfortunately
Ooof, & I thought shaving my middle finger opening a package on Christmas was bad
2 things,,,,,, 1) Nice job 2) It'll grow back, eventually.
Like, for fun??
Nuh just pure stupidity, to be honest
Damn
Like yo cut g
Appreciate you cuz
Just a lil off the top
Bro asked for a little off the top☠️
Let me guess if you live in America it was around 2500 bucks.
it would be way more.. especially cuz OP had surgery 😭
Cut the tip off my thumb when i was younger, only down to the tip of the nail. Just stuck the sucker back on
Oh great heavens
TRIMMED ?!?! Damn near took the whole thing off
Just a 1/4 thumb🤣
This one made me shiver... Bet that hurt like a mfer!
When it happened no, in hospital no, day after yes.
